We had a superb supper last night. The Taj Mahal really is back up to its old excellent standard. It was almost full—on a Tuesday evening—which speaks for itself.

We are on holiday in West Bay and decided to order an Indian meal. It was delicious and delivered on time. We had lamb madras, a lovely garlic naan and chicken biryani which came with lovely vegetable curry with chick peas. It lasted us two days and we have good appetites! So good value. Highly recommended.

Wow, what a wonderful Indian restaurant. The food was out of this world. The service was also outstanding, and we didn't wait long for any of the food ordered. There was a lot of choice. We walked in around 6pm, but can imagine that this restaurant would be very busy as the evening goes on.

Dropped in without pre booking early Saturday evening. Fitted us in even though very busy considering time. Very good quality food, well sized portions. It's not the cheapest, but I prefer to pay a little more and get a decent meal. Will definitely be visiting again when next in the area.

We have been going to the Taj Mahal for years but last night was poor. The meat was tough. The dal was flavoured water. The chapatis were tough. The prices were astronomical too. The waiters were bringing in sizzler dishes with aromas of burnt meat rather than enticing spices. What a shame.

Food was okay at best. Pretty bland for Indian cuisine, but that can be forgiven. It’s the service that was the main problem. We were visiting Bridport for the long weekend and decided to try the place. A little into our meal, the server came to take away the pickle and chutney dish (only things that added flavour to their food), we obviously needed it so asked him to leave it, but it seemed like he needed the serving dish for another table or something and asked us to take some pickle and chutney on our plates, so he could take away the serving dish! How bizarre, it’s not a cheap restaurant, least we expect is for them to have enough serving dishes so no one interrupts our meal. Also we couldn’t see him asking anyone else that same question, he probably thought we could be pushed over? We’d also ordered for something to takeaway, but they had forgotten to get that made (the lady was at least apologetic about it), so we decided to just leave without waiting for it.

I only like mild Indian food but my vegetable biryani and saag bhaji were insipid and my husband described his chicken tikka saag dopiaza as bland. The vegetables in the Biryani were predominantly potato and chickpeas. We ordered a beer and a white wine and were brought large glasses of both without having been asked what size we'd like. Our table for 2 was squashed into a corner against the bar and I had a pile of menus within inches of my ear. A very disappointing experience.?

We had a good mix of bindhi bhaji, chicken Malaya, cheese and garlic naan and a king Prawn biryani. No point breaking each down as all were hot and tasty. Lovely little restaurant. Very good service and a good selection of dishes. My husband and our friend had The Dorset Blast as they both like hot curries. They were warned as it does state on the menu that it is ‘very, very hot’ but even these experienced old fools were not quite expecting the heat it generated! However they have lived to tell the tale, just! I had Garlic Chilli Chicken which was quite hot but extremely tasty. Our other friend had Chicken Tawa, which was medium heat and also very tasty. Glad we booked a table as the restaurant was full and we went quite early on a Friday evening at 6:30pm. Would definitely recommend.

It took almost an hour before our main course arrived. My wife ordered the “fish curry” described as a masala with coconut milk. There was no coconut milk and the fish was soft, pappy and had been flown half way around the world! My curry was a lamb ticks last jalfreze. Not tika but tough old mutton. Nan bread was under cooked and doughie. So if you like poor service and even worse food you’l love it here.

No offer of desserts, or clearing away.. signalled to the waiter a couple of times which he blatantly ignored.. finally managed to attract his attention to ask for the bill.. and he went back to folding his napkins before sauntering over to the bar.. bill took another 10 minutes to arrive... and ignored again.. in the end we stood up and moved towards the door and boy, did the card machine appear quickly then. Overall, decent enough food, totally spoilt by rubbish service. Probably won't be back.. others to try in town.

New owners and what a great meal we had. Currently living in the Midlands and we have a superb range of great curry houses. Not often I come across a menu where I want to try such a range of dishes, it took us ages to pick our choices. They do all of the usuals from tikka Madala to Rogan Josh. In addition there are really interesting Indian dishes including lobster, squid and beef rump. The three of us chose 2 starters and 3 mains between us. The trio of chicken was delicious, even though one of them was bright green! The lamb strips were fabulous, like a minted red current jelly lamb with an Indian twist. If you like a rich slightly sweet curry the lamb and apricot could be for you. My sis had the lamb shank which just fell off the bone. Ann loved her New Delhi chicken which was creamy and full of flavour. The Naan was some of the best I’ve had, light and crisp and the mushroom rice was another triumph. We will definitely eat here again, I’m a real foodie and this was such a lovely surprise, great food, £21 a head with drinks, bargain!
