So glad we didn’t read some of these reviews before we went or might not have bothered. After a google search of places to eat “near me” the Speckled Hen came up. We loved it. Nice area, lovely views. Big open airy restaurant. Nothing fancy but clean and homely feel. Lovely selection of homemade sandwiches, cakes etc. My other half had bacon and egg roll which was delivered in a large roll with plenty filling while I had soup n sandwich. Salad and coleslaw with sandwich which was fresh and tasty. Delicious! The waitress also did the cooking so realised it may take longer to arrive than other places but was well worth the wait. Very relaxed and enjoyable. Service was lovely and other half saying he will be back with work colleagues!

Being situated next to a farm at the very end of a country track we were expecting something out of the ordinary, we sure got that as the service was slow, disjointed & chaotic. We sat for 20mins before someone could find the time (in between preparing takeaways for the locals) to come & take our order. The food was good but the overall experience, ambiance & coldness of the place meant that we decided never to return. It’s a real shame as with very little effort & a shake up of the staff/customer service (it is us customers that keep you in business!!) it could be a wee gold mine.

Heed the other reviews. If there's somewhere else open and available, try it. It's not terrible but we wouldn't return.

Elderly woman who works here makes the whole experience awful. Ordered a strawberry tart for my daughter had to be returned as base extremely hard couldn’t bite through it. Elderly woman not happy that we brought this to her attention and her customer service manner was nonexistent. Food appears to be very stale. Don’t waste your money here folks!!

Popped in for lunch, midweek holiday treat. Immediately felt like we were bothering the lady serving. Went to the counter to order not realising it was table services and got snapped at she would be with us as soon as she can. She came out to take our order with a face like thunder, I was wanting to leave but my partner was so hungry. The food was good, nice choice. We won't be hurrying back, pity as we are keen to support local businesses like this. Back to basics, good customer service needed.

Visited the speckle hen for the first time today as heard so many good reports about it...was quite busy....sanitiser as you entered ....a young girl told us she would come and get our order . ..when she did I told her everything we wanted....when the food came out my black pudding and onion marmalade panini had no cheese on it and I did ask for it to be put on...my daughter took it back up to the counter and told the young girl there was no cheese....she said sorry and took it back to the kitchen bit .....2 secs later an older woman came up to me with my plate in her hand...."cheese" she said and basically my plate just chucked in front of me...cold grated cheese on a panini...I thought it would of been put under the machine to melt the cheese....we asked for salt pepper and mayonnaise and never even got it...the older lady walked past our table a few times and seemed to just glare at us... the food however was tasty...I went to the toilet and when I came back my daughter was up at the counter paying now all I said was " dont you be paying i said it was my treat " well the older woman shouted at me ....dont you be arguing who is paying i have something on the hob cooking so just pay ......her customer service is absolutely shocking ..I walked away from the till and got my bag and walked out...I work in the hospitality trade myself and would never treat any of my customers the way she was with us....clearly it was a problem for her when I took my panini back but there was no need for her attitude and the way she brought my plate back....I know everyone is going through hard times the now but treat people the way you expect to be treated yourself....like I said food was tasty but I won't be back to be treated like that .

Came here for lunch after seeing the sign from the dual carriageway. Only us and one other family in. We perused the menu, ordered and expected the food quality to be worthy of the price. The food arrived, not completely what was ordered but we accepted it. Everything tasted like it had been frozen, the bread and the cheese were of very poor quality and the butternut squash and courgette soup was incredibly salty. I had to go and ask for our drinks as the waitress “forgot”. Went to order some cakes but the two staff members were sitting having their lunch in the restaurant and didn’t look very pleased about having to serve us. The young girl who served us was pleasant but the service was poor considering there were only two families eating in the restaurant. We expected more from a farm shop and will not return. The food was expensive for the poor quality it was and most certainly didn’t taste fresh.

Passed by this a few times and at last had time to stop. Well signposted but a bit off beaten track and set within farm steadying. Big airy canteen feel but food was excellent. Home made soup was piping hot and delicious as was the home baking. Cheap and cheerful is how I would describe. Would come back again.

My wife and l visited the Speckled Hen cafe & restaurant late morning yesterday. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile and a welcome chat from one of the farm estate workers. Once entering the cafe the welcome was just as friendly. We ordered bacon, blackpudding rolls, coffee & pot of tea. The rolls were delicious and so was the coffee and tea. We noticed there was various vegetables for sale and in an attempt to support the local farm, we looked to purchase a few items. Unfortunately we never looked further than the carrots and potatoes. The carrots were covered in black spots and were very soft and rubbery and the potatoes were exactly the same. Clearly whoever looks after the catering side of the business has no connection to the fruit and veg that’s on sale. Still wanting to support the local produce, we purchased 3 bags of sweets on sale by the till. All l will say is don’t be tempted as the tablet was completely inedible and the others not much better. To summarise the hot food and beverages were nice, the welcome was also, but very disappointed in all the other issues which would prevent a return visit.

Ordered a finger buffet for my 60th birthday as was having a few friends round and didn’t want to cook - Leona and her staff certainly didn’t disappoint. The food supplied was amazing - well presented, tasty and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fuss free home buffet and will definitely be using them again. Thanks again Leona 🥰

Very nice food, staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough to help us. They even brought us a birthday cake out for us (one we had brought to the pub) then we went into another part of the building and played bingo for the rest of the evening. Brilliant
