What a delightful pub. Was driving past on a Sunday and stopped for Sunday lunch. Absolutely the best roast dinner I've had in a long time. I had lamb, my partner had mixed, pork, beef and turkey. Everything home cooked. Absolutely stunning

We've had good food every time we've eaten there recently, enjoyed the service and entertainment.

Called in to start the Round Robbin ride out for Air Ambulance, it was great to see it after a few years, it looks great , and staff were friendly

Buffet provided today for a wake. Food was great, lots of choice. Staff were amazing, went above and beyond.

We had beautiful food today in the sker it was nice to see it open .The staff are really friendly nothing is to much for them the food was the best we've had out for ages .it was a pleasure to eat and drink there. Nice to see it back open lovely atmosphere 👌

If I could leave no stars I would. Absolutely shocking service. Two Sunday dinners were ordered for delivery. Absolutely no problems in ordering, receiving them however was the issue. We telephoned at 1.30pm to see what time they would arrive as this was much later, than they said we would have them. The lady who answered didn't know what to say, as she'd messed up and clearly not written our order anywhere, instead of saying this she decided to cut me off. When we called back my call was ignored. Don't provide a service if you can't fulfil your orders. Two elderly people went without because if your incompetence. I've written this on behalf of the customers who were let down. Now called the skare

Looked a bit scruffy from the outside. The Sker Restaurant was brilliant. Excellent quality pub food, the chef cooks everything (except the scampi) and it shows. Typical good Welsh hospitality and prompt service. Da iawn!

Steak was lovely , chips average! Awful watery boiled mushrooms, asked for a side of coleslaw it came in a small pot and was a shop bought coleslaw which was awful! Overpriced for what you get!

Recently refurbished and updated throughout, the Somerset arms also has an updated menu, featuring new range of Caribbean dishes alongside usual pub classics. The Caribbean dishes make an interesting alternative. Coupled with friendly table service and good car parking space, makes the Somerset arms a good venue for a lunch with friends.

Traditional bar menu with the twist of Caribbean food choices as well, for the spicy food lovers. Different meal nights through week, worth looking at. Food is lovely,not been disappointed on the few visits. Staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a visit.

Staying near by on holiday. Somerset Arms was recommended to us, as it’s close to the house we are staying in. The steak was cooked to perfection and the desserts were excellent. The service received from both Leah’s was exemplary, attentive and friendly. We are going back this evening.

I always believed a carvery was all you can eat except the meat

First time visitors. We had Surf & Turf and a Jamaican Curry. Excellent food and super service. Lovely.

Disappointing food and environment, but good service. The table was overrun with small flies/gnats. It was really unpleasant to eat with them buzzing around. Surely a health hazard. The vegetarian burger was mushy instead of firm and unevenly cooked. The chips were greasy with no crunch. The curries and beef stew were tasty, but the meat was not nearly cooked enough which resulted in a tough, chewy texture. It's a lovely place to have a pint, but I wouldn't recommend it as a place to eat.

Waiting times awful, never got any food or drink, gave up and went home

Missed the old somerset. Fish and curry was tasty. However no diet coke or diet lemonade. Poor waitress couldn't be more helpful.

Although our food was lovely my grandchildren’s chicken nuggets were frozen and one started wasn’t cooked in the middle. The service was very very very slow. They definitely need to improve on the waiting times especially for drinks. We asked 4 times for squash. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Will I go back probably but in a few months so they will have hopefully improved. The sad thing is the waitress told us she would take the kids meals and the starter off the bill but when we had it she hadn’t.. that’s when unfortunately her attitude stank she did take the bill back and took them off but no apology and quite frankly very rude!! I won’t name names...

Couldn’t wait to try out the new Sker with a new menu. Refurb looked great and loved the closed in beer garden. Menu was very impressive and hard to choose just 1 option. I ordered the fish and have to say it was possibly one of the nicest pieces of cod I’ve ever tasted. However, no side salad or pees with the meal that was specified on the menu which was disappointing.Ordered a dessert.. and waited .... and waited... until I was asked what I wanted with it (cream/ice cream/ custard etc (even tho I already specified my choice on orderAnd waited..... and waited...... (restaurant was not at all busy) Waitress informed me my choice of dessert wasn’t available did I want option b... ok agreed. And waited.... and waited By now I didn’t want the dessert and the rest of the party was ready to go 15 minutes ago. Dessert finally came and it was horrible so left it.

Called in on the off chance, and was lucky enough to be accommodated. Lovely friendly service from all the staff. Ordered a few drinks and our food. The short wait was well worth it as our meals arrived piping hot and each one was lovely. Pulled Pork Burger was filling and juicy, and the Pulled Pork loaded Chips was huge fair play. Love the Cloudy Apple a Cider lol Highly recommended local pub grub. 10/10 all in The Sker.

We called in for a meal before Christmas. I had the rump steak,jacket potato, onion rings and salad my two friends had the chicken . the food was hot and plentiful my steak cooked just how I like it. Their onion rings are crunchy and tasty. We all enjoyed our meals

We are a local bike club who has had our Xmas meal here a couple of times. It's well laid out with all Xmas feel.the staff are lovely and the food is brought out together the food is fab.we are hoping to come again this year. I also come in regularly with my fussy eating partner. We always have a lovely meal and staff are always friendly.See you soon

Called in for food on our way home. Ordered our food and waited about 15 minutes for it to arrive. Food was piping hot when it arrived. Think the oil for the chips needed changing as they tasted a little strange. Garlic chicken just tasted like plain chicken- couldn’t taste or smell garlic. Overall, it was just okay, we were hungry and this did the job, but wouldn’t rush to return.

Entered with dog in bar area and asked to leave by Landlady , who volunteered to bring drink out to me but I left No signs up restricting dogs Ive been a far nicer local pubs , like the fabulous Britannia in Cwmavon, Port Talbot where this is not an issue and as it is not in most mature pubs now Place looks run down but I've no idea what food is like the Mount pub across road permits dogs with owners

Had a most enjoyable Sunday lunch yesterday, everything was piping hot and very tasty the beef was very tender with delicious vegetables. We were served very quickly with a nice smile was impressed.

My steak was cooked just as i like it. The scampi was tasty. The gammon was enjoyed by my friend . The three friends who had the beef dinner enjoyed it but said it was too much to eat. The food was piping hot and we had a very relaxed meal .

We visited Sunday 10th March, had a fantastic Sunday lunch, we had to wait a little while however as we hadn’t booked, we could see they were extremely busy so did not mind this in the slightest, as a family of 4, all had the beef in exception of one turkey, it was fresh and tasty with the nicest home-made gravy I’ve tasted in a very long while, we then opted for just two dessert, which was both the home made lemon drizzle cake, WOW! A moist cake with a very zesty taste served with fresh cream. Beautiful. .... moving on to the service, second to none, as indicated previously, was extremely busy, the bar staff and waiting staff were very professional, attentive and banterous which made the visit even more enjoyable, well done. The pub/restaurant itself, an old traditional pub feel (although some parts could do with updating) we believe this added character and comfort to the dining experience. The bill, exemptionally good value for money, will definitely be returning! Keep up the good work Somerset Arms.

I come here regularly, especially on Wednesdays as they do the BEST roast dinners for very very good prices. The service is amazing, very friendly staff!! I was served by Lauren who is extremely bubbly and lovely, and also leanne and David are super nice too.

Although the pub was busy we settle down at a table looked at the menu and then ordered our meals at the bar. As usual I ordered a rare rump steak baked potato,side salad and onion rings. Two lasagnas and the vegetarian with goats cheese.

Stopped off in port talbot to take a look at the Banksie artwork. Wandered about looking for a cafe at around 12.50. Strangely all were closed and we were directed to this pub. Very unassuming looking place but had friendly staff and good hearty food. Steak baguettes were excellent and served with lovely salad, coleslaw and homemade chips. Other dishes we ordered were pasta, cannelloni etc. All seemingly good. An old fashioned type pub which was clean and had good efficient service!

Decided to call in for lunch after work. Ordered the rump steak cooked rare. Dennis had the pie.. the steak was cooked just as I like it . The onion rings were really tasty and crisp. Dennis are all his pie which had a lovely crisp pastry top. Both our plates were empty when we returned them to the waiter. The staff were friendly and stopped to chat with us when the other diners left. If you want proper home made chips then visit the Somerset Arms.

Had a fabulous meal last night here, everyones meal was cooked to perfection. The burgers are mahoooosive & juicy, my garlic chicken was absolutely beautiful & the cheesy garlic sauce I had to accompany it was to die for. Relaxed friendly atmosphere & the staff were briliant. Highly recommended & very reasonable prices.

I had the rump steak with baked potato and salad with onion rings. The steak was cooked rare just as I like it. Three of our friends also had rump steak and each steak came out and was cooked to their request. the lasagna served with garlic bread was thoroughly enjoyed. Three tasty sausages served on mash with onions and the chicken curry was cleared. We will all definitely go back to the Somerset Arms. A sign of a good meal is empty plates being taken back to the kitchen and we all cleared our plates. Good food and not expensive to eat there.

Went for lunch one day. The burgers were big and juicy, fries homemade and really good. Will have to go back for drinks one night.

Really good food at really good prices, the staff are nice and friendly and both visit's have been great, we have had steak baguettes, steak and ale pie, chicken madras and a stack burger and everyone has enjoyed no complaints, and they come with real chips which is a bonus. Great value for money.

Called in about 5.00 it was a little quiet, the wife had a bbq chicken melt and i had the chicken madras, we had to wait about 15 minutes even though it was quiet but the food was freshly cooked. The home made chips were very tasty and the madras was also very good and the wife cleaned the bbq chicken up so it must have been good we call infrequently but have yet to have a disappointing meal we would heartily recommend

food was stunning called in on a Sat afternoon quite late about 4ish had the veg crumble in a stilton creamy sauce. Vegi meals are normally boring but this was fabulous and thoroughly enjoyable friendly staff didnt have to wait long for food and was served boiling hot.

Been here many times, but today I was really dissappointed. We ordered the 6 oz steak one with mash and one with chips. My "medium" steak was nearer rare and the other steak "well done" was tough and dry. The mash was not hot enough and the accompanying peas were cold. The response to our complaints was just as tepid. Certainly won't be rushing back any time soon.

We popped in on a very quiet and wet Monday lunchtime hoping that our dog could join us in the bar area while we dined. The barman himself I cannot criticise as he was polite and friendly, however, when checking for us whether a dog could join us in the bar area while we dined he was advised to decline due to "Health & Safety"???!!! We have dined in far more salubrious eateries and far better locations than this with our dog in tow, therefore we have to ask what makes the Somerset Arms so different, is a totally empty bar area better than half a dozen couples with their dogs paying good money for food and boosting profits????!!!! And to top it all the coffee machine was out of order so we walked away after a diet pepsi between us!!! A missed opportunity for sure

A fairly good Sunday lunch for a very reasonable £6.99.Meat (lamb and beef) was good. Cauliflower cheese was excellent. Peas were over cooked. Green beans undercooked and stringy. Carrots good. Yorkshire pud overlooked. Gravy tasty. Toilets were shabby with broken toilet seats and someone had obviously been smoking in there. Would we return - possibly.

Went for a meal with my children and although the staff were great sadly the food wasn't.The burger just didn't taste like a quality burger should.My daughters steak was overcooked(there's a difference between well done and overcooked) but my sons lasagne was spot on.Could be a great little pub if the food improved.

went there mid week curry night truly awful ,we have had good meals and bad meals there its our local but after the excuse for a chicken curry which was more like dried chicken lumps in cream l could,nt even shallow it was so dry l did complain to lovely waitress l will never give it another chance staff lovely food bad if its the chiefs night off
