Lager tasted like burnt rubber and cocktail was more ice than flavour

we were told when we came in that we could have the happy hour deal and then when we were paying were told it didn’t apply! I wasn’t expecting the discount going in but after the experience with the miserable staff member and terrible atmosphere, it definitely wasn’t worth it. If we had known it wasn’t going to apply we would have ordered a pint instead.

Absolutely no respect for neighbours.

Walked in, sat down, got up, walked out.. not a very inviting vibe.. not for me at all.

Eight of us came here to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately the attitude of the bar staff was soo bad we all voted with our feet and moved onto a anther bar where it wasn’t our fault that the person behind the bar had attitude and was rude to the birthday girl because she was in ‘training’.

Date night, cocktails were a mixed bag and had some good ones, and the 2 for 1 on some was a pleasant surprise.

Great cocktails! Happy hour, what's not to love 🤩 would definitely recommend the Appletini! Will definitely be returning!

With the many bars placed in Hitchin, it could be difficult to choose what place to go to for a couple of drinks with friends. Snug bar in Hitchin has managed to pull this atmosphere off perfectly. With a friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff you truly couldn’t go wrong. Floor staff that tend to your drinks at the table and help with any quick concerns you have, to the bar staff who create complex and incredibly nice drinks with ease and pace. And with live music, to DJs, to Cocktail Classes and even just quiet nights, there’s truly something for everyone. Would recommend this place to anyone who’s in the mood to have a drink or two with friends in a more chilled out environment.

We absolutely love this place! The quality of the cocktails and the professionalism of the staff is enough reason to visit this bar!

We attended a cocktail masterclass as a group of 10 for my birthday. Made 3 amazing cocktails and have never laughed so much in my life. A massive thank you to Beckie our bartender for looking after us and making my birthday. Cannot wait to come back for another masterclass! Best night ever!

Vinnie and I were called last minute to cover DJing a gig at The Snug on Sun St in Hitchin last night - and we had an absolute blast! What should've been a 2 hour journey on the M25 took us almost 4 after a lorry had overturned so we arrived slightly later than we'd hoped to but blimey, was the trip worth it. We had a great night meeting the locals there and think we hit a record for the amount of requests we took on the karaoke. We were made to feel so welcome and loved by those who enjoyed our little show too. We hope we get another opportunity to come back to The Snug again. Wonderful establishment... we just wish we weren't so far away from it. 😌 THANK YOU SNUG BAR FOR A GREAT GIG! X

Expensive and a rip off Ordered 2 identical drinks, 2 Jack Daniel's and coke, which was paid for my card, quickly glanced at the receipt, 20.55, which I though must have been the time. Upon checking my bank statement the following day, it turns out that was the price! Very expensive and how can 2 identical drinks total 20.55? it's not divisible by 2 - never again.

Drinks were ok. Service not as good. When we were being served we wanted to confirm what drinks were on Happy Hour and was advised they all were from 5PM. After placing an order for 8 drinks we were advised that the Manager had decided that from there and then Happy Hour was no longer available and it was only a trial. Unfair to plaster it all over social media and their website and then refuse afterwards.

I do enjoy the snug bar for its drinks and the establishment overall is cosy. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that the music is played far too loud when the space is clearly not intended for dancing. It's quite annoying trying to have a conversation if you're sat practically anywhere in the venue.

Um ... expensive ... quite a good range of cocktails, staff very friendly and attentive and pretty efficient ... place cleaned on a regular basis ... just quite pricey, which is fine if you're good with that.

Cocktails were nice, but just to be warned, tables are for two hours but 20 minutes before our table was due for another booking we were asked to leave and pay the bill, we argued it considering there was a table of for four with two people on who had been there since before we got there and we had spent way more than they had (guessing from the amount of drinks we had compared to them) and they had not been asked to leave. Should be notified that tables are for an hour and a half then as opposed to two hours. Went to the St Albans snug and did not ask you to leave until your time was up and also notified us when the last time we could order drinks to get some in before we left.

Waited 50 mins for 2 drinks. Horrible drinks when they arrived

Visited here with friends - took 15 minutes to get in even though we had booked a table. Sticky table.... holes in the floor and generally dirty! It took us 30 mins to get a drink which were awful... we didn’t even drink them, when we told them they weren’t great they apologised and said hopefully they will be better next time!!!

Charged us over £15 for two drinks ( one lager and one spirit single with a dash ) which included tableService even though we couldnt go the bar, staff not welcoming, made us fill in the track and trace outside in the cold and said we wouldn't fill it in if she let us in the bar, the bar is cold as they have to have the door open all the time, no discounts on cocktails anymore, no atmosphere, save your money and pick a different bar.

My friend and I came in for a quick drink, which they asked us to put onto a tab. Ten minutes after we ordered, they told us it was last orders. We asked for our card back. The staff handed us a card but it didn't belong to us. They then spent the next ten minutes frantically searching for our card. Unfortunately they had incorrectly given our card away. Naturally, we were furious. We received the two drinks we had for free but received hardly any remorse from our waiter who kept reiterating that his staff always check the names on the cards they take. There was also an altercation going on between the barmaid and a group of girls leaving the venue. Bad vibes resulted in a bad night.

It’s a shame one of the few cocktail bars in Hitchin has to be this place. Myself and friends hadn’t been before and wanted to try it. The bouncer on the door was rude, although this is to be expected more or less anywhere. All in all, just under £10 for a cocktail in Hitchin is overpriced considering the size and quality of this bar. The staff are not particularly welcoming. We had a waitress who I’m sure is lovely, however looked at us as if we’d asked her to lick the floor when we asked if we could have some more drinks which is fairly normal in a bar. When we were asked if we wanted to start a tab, instead of swiping my card on the system (aware this is not the technical term) so they have a record of it when you normally start a tab, they just kept the card behind the bar until we’d done. This isn’t normal in the best of times but keeping people’s cards, in what I can only presume as the same pile behind the bar in a pandemic, isn’t smart. We were also put on a wall mounted table on bar stool chairs and so that was unpleasant staring at a wall. I understood at first because there may have been other bookings at the empty tables, however two hours passed and they had not been filled and the staff did not offer to move us somewhere more comfortable. I would recommend not using this ‘table’ at all as people squeeze past this area to go to the toilet anyway and so isn’t very Covid-19 friendly in terms of social distancing.

Had a lovely meal in Hitchin and decided to go to The Snug for cocktails as we heard they do great cocktails. My girlfriend and I was about to enter when this guy who I’m now told was the manager (and is normally rude to customers I’m told by staff) shouted GET OUT AND WAIT OUTSIDE TILL I’M READY! I was shocked and upset how someone could be so rude. I told the waiter and he apologised for his manager. So we decided to stay as our waiter was lovely. We ordered some cocktails. Whilst my girlfriend was in the toilet I was heading to the bar to ask if they served a screw ball and the girl behind the bar, Sad GO SIT DOWN! So we left before I cocktails arrived. I’m sorry but an sorry can you please take a seat would be a lot welcoming... Very disgusted and very disappointed. Shall be taking my friends and family elsewhere.

Had a great night at the snug for a girly catch up last week. Cocktails and the staff were amazing. Special mention to our host Aiden who looked after us! Will definitely be returning after the service we received! Thank you to the team

Came for karaoke, sang most of the songs for the evening. Fancied one of the bar staff who also made my evening fun.

We attended a cocktail making class. Group booking. Choice of three different types of cocktails to make one chosen from each group. The guy that was teaching us was very good. We weren't sure about rhw type of rum used in the mojito, we had dark run but we thought it was white? By the by, no nibbles whilst making cocktails which would have been beneficial. We were a group of 8 and spent a lot of time sharing equipment which isn't awful but does slow the process sown somewhat. Once we'd completed the masterclass it was time to pay, and we're told it'd be £35 as there is a £10 extra charge at the weekend. We hadn't been made aware of this, and the issue was sorted by management. If you're planning on booking, please do, they're great, just confirm the prices before hand and in writing. Will quite happily go back for more cocktails again.

Me and my girlfriends went to the snug in Hitchin for a cocktail after dinner before going to a club and two ordered open star martinis and two order cosmos Arrived and they were awful. No passion fruit in the porn stars and tasted bitter when should be sweet and at £10 a drink and the cosmos not much better Absolute rip off. Let down @thesnug will be going elsewhere for my cocktails from now on.

£5.35 for a flat beer which I politely asked to be poured into another glass or swapped. Ended up in an argument with an extremely rude barmaid over it, couldn't believe it. Me and my 5 friends all left over it when we were out for few a drinks. Safe to say none of us would come back here after our experience and reading the other comments.

Staff are extremely rude. I ordered a pint and the pint was completely flat and stale, I asked to swap my drink for another beer and the staff rudely told me there was nothing wrong with the beer even though everyone around me agreed they would not drink it. I asked if I could swap it for a bottle beer instead and I was told the staff where too busy and to go to the back of the que. They then proceeded to give me £10 in 20ps, 5ps and 10ps for my change

Went to this bar with a girlfriend and had a few cocktails, lovely drinks, really friendly staff, good atmosphere, apparently happy hour in the afternoon, comes recommended.

Not my place at all. Too noisy and too expensive. Also some very dangerous art in the wall. Be careful coming down from the loo the star sticking out the wall will have your eye out.

I don't get what the bad reviews are all about... I mean I've had tried to pop down at rather late times after work for a quick pint particularly on a Thursday as it days you are "open until 1pm" due to working with in the area thinking they were open due to their website stating that they are open but clearly not being open at that specific time but sometimes staff or even management don't have control of their website for the buisness, any who the girls at the bar were right welcoming and genuine which you don't find in most bars in the industry which is refreshing! Me and and a friend have a lot of bar experience when it comes to cocktails and working behind bars so we were having a bit of a playful banter due to being their competition with the bar staff which they took really well and dished it back which I find quite funny... obviously in a good way of course! The cocktails below were awesome so hats off girls! (Black haired girl with pretty exotic make up and a blonde girl, so sorry for the discription haha!) Anyway thank you for the great service you have provided even if it was for a few drinks, hope management acknowledge this and think about how much of an asset you ladies are to this small but energetic bar!

The place itself is a nice place, the drinks were nice and from that front no complaint - this was a Monday. What I did think was wrong is whilst it was a Monday, the bar was relatively busy and they only had one member of staff, this is a cocktail bar and the drinks aren't like pouring a pint! This resulted in quite a long wait through no fault of the staff, the lady working (I believe she may have been called Georgia) grafted her bum off and I couldn't fault her work ethic in any way! TLDR: GOOD DRINKS, GOOD STAFF - JUST NOT ENOUGH OF THEM

Looking at recent reviews which are not very complimentary i feel i may have been in a different bar as i quite liked The Snug. Maybe the atmosphere alters later or i just hit lucky. Came with friends and we all enjoyed our coctails which are all 2 for 1. I found our server both friendly and knowledgeable and she recommended a perfect one for the flavours i like. I had bramble which with blackberry liquer gjn and lemon and was delicious snd refreshing. They had a good selectiono of non alcoholic cocktails for the drivers in the party. Based on tonight's experiemce would gladly return to try some more!

Myself and 8 friends thought to wander over to The Snug, around 12.30 last night. The venue is advertised as being open until 2am. We were stepping through the door and we were told they were shutting and had already cashed up as they had not been busy. That just sounded like on the spot excuse. We were a group of mature couples not exactly a bunch of rowdy lads on Stag. It was just a strange response and clearly we were not at all welcome. The lady told us us she just wanted to close up and go to her bed. We were told to go to other establishments that were open. So we did, and most likely won't even try go back there again.

I am sadden to be writing such a bad review but must warn any potential customers in the near future. What we thought would be a bright and buzzing bar is in fact a dark, sweaty, sticky hole where you can hardly anything. The windows were covered with steam and sweat on Saturday which made my wife feel sick and the heavy music was just awful. I didn't realise what was once a nice cocktail bar is making desperate efforts to be a club?! After waiting at least half an hour to be served (despite they have 2 bars) we were met with incredibly rude bar staff who didn't act like they wanted to serve any drinks and had the nerve to swear at customers. With drinks finally in hand we sat near the back bar area so also had the wonderful experience of staff running upstairs together and bringing down a suspicious smell of green smoke. That was the last straw.Obviously this team are more focused on getting intoxicated in the back then doing any work.Will not be returning!

Currently sitting in the Snug bar which is cold with tables which are sticky covered in last night drink as are the menus. Their offer of two for one cocktails is for two of the same as they explain it’s easier for us to mix two the same therefore we ended up with four drinks instead of two. Very annoying.Rapidly gone downhill avoid unless you are 15 years old

Not good. Queue was ridiculous just to get served, staff were rude and ignored people waiting to be served. Saw several customers served with dirty glasses that the staff just quickly rinsed out. Tasted better cocktails too.

An utterly disappointing Friday night experience shared with me and my friends. What was set to be a great start to the evening (from previous experiences) saw us with delayed drinks from bad mouthed children behind the bar.

Been here many times and it gets worse every time. Last night was our final ever visit. Can't make a French Martini, can't find the Jack Daniels and can't be bothered to look and they dont care about either of these things. Bar staff are 14 year old girls who are less than useless. Go to the Hermitage, it's soooooo much better.

We booked in a cocktail class for a friends birthday party. We enjoyed every second! The communication between us and James on the run up to the event was great, which was essential as it was a surprise for the birthday girl! He went above and beyond to make it special for us, he was honestly fantastic. As for prices I don't think the bar is overly expensive really for a town centre, happy hour runs from 3-9 as well

Been here a few times, but this time my friends had booked us in for a cocktail making class for my Birthday. Had a really good time and James who took our group was great and even got involved with our crazy tash wearing get up!

Came here yesterday for a few drinks with my friends, we managed to get there later than we had imagined because my friend takes forever to do his hair lol. We still got there in time for the 2 for 1 cocktails and I ordered a strawberry daiquiri. They were absolutely gorgeous.

Called in for a quick pre-eat drink on Sunday night. Mrs C is a bit of a gin buff so her face lit up when she saw the very impressive gin menu. The first she ordered they had run out of, but she ordered a second choice with all the usual trimmings. Sad to say, once it was poured, we were told they had run out of the trimmings, so I ended up paying top dollar for what was nothing more than a standard g & t. Bit of a let down really. With so many other places to go to in Hitchin, I don’t think we will be back.

Pricey but nice when you catch it on a busy night. DJ nights are good but not on often.

We were going to order cocktails but after seeing how slowly they were made for the 2 people in front of us we made our order simple, asked for red wine, got white, got charged the wrong amount, only 1 person working but 2 people stood behind the bar joking about being too pissed...service ridiculously slow and very un-professional....dont waste your time or money!

Wrong recipe for a Disaronno Sour - should have read the ingredients for their version of it before ordering. When you’re paying approx. £9 per cocktail, you expect them to get it right. Nice enough place otherwise in terms of atmosphere.

The cocktails are a very poor standard. I was shocked to see that they used coconut purree type concoction from a squirty bottle. The cocktail tasted vile and off. When I complained (politely) to the staff that the cocktail wasn't right they all decided to taste it and tell me that it was fine, in the end they conceeded and made another omitting cheap looking semi skimmed milk which was an improvement. I've had cocktails all over the world so I know what a good one is and unfortunately, the snug doesn't cut the mustard and the staff are just arrogant. Also the margarita was watery and lame...a thimble full

I first visited here in January with a friend. We came across it by pure chance. One of the girls behind the bar was very helpful in helping me pick cocktails that were suitable for vegans. I love the decor and the happy hour is such a good deal. The Junebug is deffos the tastiest cocktail - it goes down like juice.

Had a cocktail making class as part of a work function, the drinks we made were lovely and we were taught to free pour (yay!), we also won prizes such as free shots and free drinks tokens. The staff were friendly, they shut off the whole bar for us, the toilets are lovely and well kept. Quite pricey is the only downside.

Myself and the Mrs often goto the snug in Hitchin its a great atmosphere the food is great to pick at the staff make great cocktails and the music isnt bullet bitingly annoying this time I would like to add an extra star because I was so amused about the conversation behind us of a hen party of which were discussing the first time they tried doggy style anal... Granted they were as attractive as jabba the hut but it sure made for a good crack (pun intended)

My daughter was back from university so thought we would go out for lunch. By accident we opted for the snug and was really impressed. We order the sharing platter/tapas. Where we chose 5 dishes to share. Whilst my daughter was driving I had a glass or two of wine and the food was presented very well and i have to say tasted amazing. I can't wait to go back with my other daughter when she comes back from university !!!!! Well worth a visit if you are in hitchin during the day as at night it is more like a night club for the young and beautiful - which having had 4 children I am not

The snug is one of the few bars in Hitchin with a little music to set the atmosphere. Whether you're out with friends, family or on a date this place never fails. They have happy hours so buy one get one free cocktails and they do great offers on bar snack food. The staff are always really friendly and inviting and help you if you are as indecisive as me & can't decide what to drink!

Had a couple of cocktails with the wife in a Friday night taking advantage of their two for one offer. The expresso martini was very good, the mohito was made with dark rum, not to my personal liking. Other than that, good value drinks in one of the many bars in Hitchin

Becoming my and friends/family 'go to' place before food. Am loving the two for one up to 9pm how mad is that! And yes...my standard cocktail Cosmo......anywhere I go I tend to say hmm but not as good as the snug. Got a bar tab voucher for xmas so will be heading there any time soon !!!!

Finally made it for a Espresso martini and I wasn't disappointed. It was very quiet as we had gone in during lunch time and maybe it was a bit too early for alcohol. We were hungry so ended up ordering some food too. I had the pork 3 ways - which was ok nothing fancy in fact it was a bit too tomatoy for my liking. My husband had the snug burger which he said was good. Service was good. I will definitely return to try more drinks but maybe not the food.
