Pleasant coffee and cake as part of a stopover break from the ferry. Really lovely tasting coffee and a nice selection of cakes on display. Not to mention a very funny story overheard from the employees which made the experience more enjoyable! Definitely would recommend going to dine to or from your destination.

Just awful. Place was freezing. Coffee was verging on cold, service was a joke. Lady took order then never came back. We eventually had to ask the owner who was just as bad. Was like something from Faulty Towers. Used to visit this place a lot. Loved it. Won’t be back

The perfect stop-off en route to Cairnryan. Easy parking. Very friendly to dogs as well as us humans. We had a small breakfast, which was all good, and a pot of tea.

Visiting en route to the boat. Thought it was a great stop. Staff were so nice. Service good. Very friendly to our dog giving him some sausages and biscuits. Very warm and cosy on a cold wet day. Didn’t find it overpriced (£26 for two bacon rolls, 4 drinks, 2 sausages and a biscuit). Overall would recommend and thought it was a great pit stop especially as it was dog friendly

Amazing visit here on Easter Sunday. Atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed from the get go. We ordered loaded fries, fish and chips, soup and 2 coffees and a tea. Service was great and our server was helpful. Food was to die for! Up there with some of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Portions were huge, great quality and chips were delicious.

Tables jam packed far too closely together, I don’t want to sit on my neighbours knee, food is way too overpriced … it’s a wee cafe in the country unexciting at best . Food nothing like as good as it was a year ago. Cakes etc no comparison to this time last year . Sorry won’t hurry back

Very busy as Easter weekend. Still managed to get parked and got last table. Service great. Order taken quickly and everyone enjoyed their lunch. All four of us said we would return 👍

The improvements under the new management cannot be overstated: from being greeted by a smiling face at the door to having delicious food brought, piping hot, to our table with a minimum of delay, The Smithy has fast become our go-to place for a tasty lunch or spontaneous breakfast treat.

It's a shame it Looks the part a quient traditional coffee house But that's it is extortionate. They sold us an empire biscuit looked like a McGhees at £3.50 you can buy a box of 12 from costco for £4.99 a massive profit. Nothing looked homebaked.Rip off Your customers should'nt be exploited

Disappointed with the coffee, it was weak and bitter. Food looked good though but didn't try any of it. Service a bit slow but they were busy, and were very pleasant when they did serve us.

Place was nearly empty but still had to wait to be seated. Provided with menus but nobody came to take order. Two people walked in for ' takeaways' and got served immediately. Our order still wasn't taken by second person serving so we left.

Wonderful place. Very good cake and coffee and staff are all amazing. Very clean and nice atmosphere. Highly recommended

A lovely restaurant was there on 7th March for lunch. Our food was great. I had baked potato with Macaroni cheese, my husband had a baguette. Both delicious. The decor is beautiful and the waiter was charming. We couldn’t eat all our food so he gave us a doggy bag to take home. Would highly recommend. Lovely restaurant, great food and charming staff.

Stopped off in work van on way to job; two bacon rolls, black coffee and a bit lemon drizzle cake - £16.05. Far too expensive for what it was. Cach and carry brioche buns, not even local bakery Scottish roll. Zero love on a plate.

Good food, lovely service but it was very loud in here. Voices and coffee making machine echoed around the place. I recall it was like this before. It's like it needs acoustic deadening. One huge bonus, the toilets are now in the restaurant rather than outside.

Good food good service a bit pricey

This place is great. Lovely atmosphere lovely food and great service. I stopped with my family 2 hungry teenagers my wife and i. We had American pancakes a big Scottish breakfast and a vegetarian one too it was all lovely- potato cakes fried in butter need I say more. If you are in the area and are hungry stop here the cakes looked fab too but your not supposed to have cake with breakfast.

Absolutely fantastic place. Staff couldn't be more helpful. My wife couldn't make it out for her 30th birthday due to just coming out of hospital and staff went above and beyond to make the most amazing afternoon tea for us to all have at home.. Delicious sandwiches and soup.....AMAZING Cakes and massive portions sizes. Highly recommend. 10/10. Thankyou so much.

Just had a delicious afternoon tea this afternoon, and we were provided boxes to take away what we did not eat and that was a lot , it consisted of soup, sandwiches, scones , strawberry tart and selection of cakes extremely worth the price paid.

Cari amici ve lo sconsiglio. Il cibo, se lo volete chiamare cibo, è inmangiabile e di pessima qualità, i dolce niente di eccezzionale. Sinceramente abbiamo pagato esageratamente per quello che abbiamo mangiato. Riguardo al servizio posso dire che erano gentili, ma come spessissimo accade, lentissimi e con molte dimenticanze. Scrivono dog friendly, ma solo se avete un cagnolino minuscolo, se come noi avete un cane grosso non ve lo fanno entrare, questo è comprensibile vista la dimensione del posto e come è organizzato internamente.

Owner was extremely pleasant and attentive. We ordered breakfast rolls brioche bun was a bit over toasted for my liking and fried potato scone was a bit soggy. Overall I will visit again to try some of the delish looking food and homemade cakes.

This was our very first visit but after today’s experience, we won’t be back. Staff member was welcoming and order taken quickly. Two coffees, a scone and a small glass of milk. When the scone arrived, it was rock hard, dry and crumbly and very difficult to cut open. Basically inedible. I suspect this was a scone left over from yesterday. Was shocked at what this cost. Was not asked if everything was ok. Such a ‘let down’ ! Overpriced and underwhelming.

Get there early if you want a good scone!

The best Scotland place where I was very nicely served and the food was very goodddd.

Customer service is sadly lacking and attitude of a certain member of staff is poor. Asked for a table to be cleared as we were sitting in a very cold spot near door on a bitterly cold day and wanted to move table . Was told by her “ this isn’t something I can do” . Service was slow so overall A very negative disappointing experience . The owner needs to take heed of the many negative reviews .

Visited with my son today and it was very disappointing. We were seated quickly and drinks brought to the table straight away. We waited a bit of time before having our order taken but nothing compared to the wait for the food. We only ordered a cheese toastie and a portion of chips and waited over 30 minutes. £8.95 for a small toastie and very small side salad is shocking! We then waited over 20 mins for the plates to be cleared. Ordered 2 cakes, a yum yum and chocolate Krispy. I was confused when both were served with a latte spoon and the yum yum was served with pouring cream all over it! When I asked to exchange this, the girl was very unhelpful and said she would need to see. Plain yum yum was then served but completely stale! During the time we were eating our food another family left as they had been told 20 mins for food and when it didn’t arrive they were told it would be a further 15 mins. Not surprising they chose to leave at this point! £25 later, I wish we had chosen to leave too! Very disorganised, slow and inattentive service! Won’t be returning.

Quite a unique wee cafe this. It’s obviously been lovingly refurbished and decorated by the owner. You can see the care and pride they take in the way it looks and it rubs off into the atmosphere, service and food. Was served by the owner and made to feel most at home whilst we had our coffee and cake. Menu is classic local cafe lunch and brunch with a smattering of some lovely baked goods. You might be tempted to just drive past but I suggest you don’t. You’ll not be disappointed!! Bonus points for step free access and great toilets.

Been here before was really good that’s our reason to return. However today’s visit has totally change my experience of the Smithy. Arrived at 1pm seated for 4 right away ordered within 2 minutes. Two couples arrived after our arrival served and finished their meal whilst we were still waiting. I could go on but the simple conclusion is we won’t be back to The Smithy!!!

Stopped here on a road trip and was quite pleased with the selection. Everything tasted lovely! The Cheese & Mango Chutney sandwich was heaven!

Nice big car park. Nice inside very friendly staff. Good coffee lovely food and good sized portions. Cakes are expensive but you get a decent sized piece and so bloody yummy. Dangerous for the waist line cause I want to try them all.

Very poor quality of food, staff (particularly young staff) are treated very poorly by the owner and the older staff. Anytime we have visited we are never made to feel welcome, getting asked for our orders feels like its a chore for the older staff members. Younger staff appear to be used for cheap labour. Overall poor quality food at expensive prices, wouldn't recommend it to anyone and certainly will never be back. The owner should be ashamed at the way she runs her business

Simply superb. Wife, myself and a friend went for a treat and it didn't dissappoint. Super food, cakes, scones, in fact everything you want as well as staff that will go out of their way to help. Please visit, you'll love it.

Excellent loaded fries. Some fantastic looking cakes - too full, after my fries, to try them though -next time. Great toilets as well.

Breakfast was ok but for small breakfast and 1 large breakfast £28 which I think was so over priced Restaurant was cold and not very inviting ,service was decent .Don't think I will rush back ,,sorry.

Always pleasant atmosphere. Nice warm decor. New menue. Very restricted in choice and cakes now. Plenty parking space. Toilets inside now too. Dogs allowed.

Have been at The Smithy once before and it was very good and that is why we returned today. But today it was awful. My daughter got a baked potato which was hard and uncooked and I asked for a cheese and pickle toastie but they didn’t do pickle and had to take mango chutney. I could have made a better toasties at home. The toastie came with a teaspoon of coleslaw and dorito type crisp which were stale. This cost me £8.95 (OMG) and the baked potato which was changed but still dreadful was £10 with a dessert spoon of cheese and a small portion of coleslaw. They actually asked if everything was ok when I was paying but I complained and had the drinks removed from the total price. They were £2.65 each...really for a can of Fanta Don't know where they get the prices from which are certainly ridiculous for the what we received. We had been there before and my daughter asked for the same as today, baked potato with cheese and coleslaw which came with a huge salad. Were told that they no longer serve salad on plates and have stopped pickle for the toasties I'm almost sure we wouldn't be the only disappointed customers. Will definitely not be going back and would advise others not to waste their money.

Called in for a quick coffee and cake while passing in the camper. Plenty of parking available. Delicious coffee and cakes as well even 1 vegan cake option. Service was prompt, staff are all lovely. Although it was nice to get vegan cake there was only 1 choice out of 29 different cakes and biscuits on offer. Slices of cake did seem to be on the small side in comparison to the others, however it was very nice and I would go back again. Lovely place

Simply excellent, they could offer a ciabatta roll as an alternative to the brioche, but Lynsey was a delight.

Great place to stop! The place is beautiful and the staff very kind.

Our second time for lunch. First visit was amazing. Second visit I had once again the Macaroni Cheese with Ciabatta Bread. Today it came in quite a small bowl compared to the Pasta Bowl it came in on first visit plus watery and tasteless. Very skimpy Ciabatta Bread served with it. Luke warm Oven Fries sprinkled with Cajun Spice. My husband had to wait about another 10 minutes for his Haggis with Pepper Sauce as someone forgot to make the sauce. They shouldn’t have bothered as it was very watery and tasteless plus once again not very hot. We had to ask 3 times for our glasses of water. I had a Latte and cake which was lovely my husbands never appeared. Altogether very disappointed. Wasn’t going to say anything but when paying I was asked how our meal was. I told lady and her reply was “Oh I’m sorry about that but I did say we had run out of Peppercorn Sauce.Yes she did but not until I had half eaten my Macaroni.Nothing said about the other issues. Sad to say I won’t be back. A lot of money wasted. Now wishing we had just complained when food came. Phyllis Dunlop

Coffee was nice, pot of tea only enough for one cup so if you like a top up, maybe need to ask for more water. Scones were dry and the fruit one had an unusual taste, possibly off the baking tray as it had a bbq taste to it. Nice surroundings and good parking.

The soup ' carrot and coriander 'was absolutely fantastic. It didn't require any seasoning. I will definitely be back

First visit we both had jacket potatoes, well presented with plenty of filling inside. Salad and crisps on the side as well. Both of us had a cake, dad had fruit slice which he thoroughly enjoyed and i had a plain scone which was lovely...

Delicious soup to start off with followed by the sandwiches, huge scones and strawberry tarts. Rocky Roads and coconut sponge cake rounded off the afternoon tea. I had a cappuccino and husband had a pot of tea which got refilled. Fast, friendly service with tasty food ...we couldn't eat it all and took the rest home for dinner!

Not a great experience. Service slow. Very expensive for what you got. Toastie, handful of crisps and very little salad all for £9, way over priced. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Overall a lovely little stop off. With a BOUNS feature. Unfortunately I felt a bit forgotten after been seated, to the point I didn't know if I was to order at the till or be be served. The food was lovely and the cakes were also delicious. The atmosphere was nice, I was able to have a conversation with my partner. The area was very clean inside, and offer a lovely little sitting area outside. BOUNS FEATURE If you enjoy flying, or more so planes you'll see plenty flying over head and low enough to wave to the pilot as they come into land nearby. Great please to take the kids.

Lovely cafe. Dropped in for a spot of lunch and really pleased that it is dog friendly. The food was great, though a slightly limited menu choice, and lovely staff. Nicely decorated and a great place to stop, the cakes are also fantastic, so grab one to go if you don't have time to eat one in.

Had stopped here (for breakfast) on route to the ferry coming out of Glasgow. Very disappointing. It was still early in the day but there was no breakfast menu only lunch. Had a toasted sandwich which was terrible - break as hard as a rock...

Was in today for the first time ( 3-7-23) for an afternoon tea with my wife. What can I say, staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. So much so we took about half of it home, which according to the young waitress was very common. Will definitely be back to try some of the other things from the menu.

First visit with wife son and daughter in law excellent food had the loaded French fries with haggis peppercorn sauce and melted cheese very good portion and extremely tasty. Wife had the Lentil soup and crusty bread and really enjoyed. We all had ice cream...

What happened????. This used to be one of our favourite monthly lunch venues. We are a group of 4 regular customers who always enjoyed the restaurant. After yesterdays experience I can only say "never again". The "new menu" was pathetic and the food disgusting. Unless...

Was ok. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The coffee was ok. They had some lovely looking cakes on display but omg they were very pricey, so just stuck with a coffee.

01/06/23, first visit to Smithys, service and food was excellent, we had toasties, soup, JP, scones and strawberry tart, can not fault it. Amazing little tea room.

Friendly staff reasonable prices and good food

Stopped for a coffee, had a strawberry tart to go with it, highly recommended, its the best strawberry tart i've ever eaten.

Meal was good and staff very helpful. A smaller place than the outside indicates.

The staff are lovely, the cakes fabulous and a great cup of tea

We really enjoyed having coffee here a week or two ago. But breakfast was a letdown. We will come back for tea/coffee and cake but not breakfast.

After reading the original reviews here, maybe we just had a bad experience 😕 cappuccino was more froth than milk, and the scones that were ordered never seemed to come! Our drinks were finished by the time they were plopped on our table with no sorry for your wait after being chased up because they had "forgotten" to order them! It's such a shame as it it a lovely setting.
