Lovely place to stop off if you're driving by but would be here every morning if it was local. Food was good coffee was great, staff were lovely, Tracey especially!

We stopped for coffee and scones. Beautiful bright cafe, spotlessly clean. Toilet too were spotless. Very pleasant girls serving. Scones very fresh and tasty.

Great wee find on way to Ayr. Nice and fresh, clean, friendly staff and good choices for lunch. Lovely toilets in outer area away from restaurant. Definitely recommend thus wee gem. A must stop.

Called in for a sandwich late in the afternoon, was made most welcome. Decided to have a simple cheese and ham baguette. When it arrived it was nothing like a simple baguette. I was pleasantly surprised ..... . The cheese was melted and it was accompanied by a delicious salad, and a lovely coleslaw with tortilla crisps. I would recommend The Smithy if your after a lovely lunch or even a coffee and cake

The time is 0900hrs. We have been coming here for a while ,whilst it was in previous ownership .New ownership not as good. Food was okay ,drinks okay but slightly over priced.Breakfast menu expensive. Went to the gents to use the toilet and was disgusted to say the least .The paper towel pedal bin had not been emptied from previous day ,towels left on the sink .This says that the toilet area are not been checked . My wife went to use the disabled toilet ,came straight back out to report that there was dried poo all over the place .Not been cleaned since previous day yet again . Think it might have been the owner ,gentleman ,went in to see ,still had his kitchen apron on . Pretty disgusting to say the least . Just as an over view ,the food cold cabinets weren’t even stocked with fresh cakes as it used to be . Gone down market . Will not be back.

Absolutely Excellent service Excellent food and its Beautiful inside and Immaculate,even though you are allowed to take your dog in,still spotless. Will Definitely go again.

Stopped for a spot of lunch before heading to a local park. Ordered 2 apple pies, 2 coffees and an ice cream. Apple pie frozen in the middle! Sent back, no apology, nothing. Coffee was nice though. Glad I never opted for a meal!

Stopped off for a quick bite to eat on a day out, was very pleasantly surprised by this place! Super friendly service and great food with generous portions. I've driven 3000km over 8 countries this summer and nothing so far has beaten loaded fries with haggis and cheese, which may now be my favourite food ever. Dog friendly too which was an added bonus. Will be sure to return before I head home!

Was okay, nothing wrong with it ordinary. Staff were nice, no real atmosphere to speak of.

We had 2 coffees and 2 empire biscuits and were charged over £14 !! We will not be back. I would not recommend this to anyone.

We visited here twice in 2 days. First visit for lunch which was great - BLT and Mac & Cheese baked potato. There was a vast array of delicious cakes but we had no room after lunch so decided to return on our way home the following day. Great choice of drinks to match the delicious cakes.

Generous portions at reasonable prices. A short 5 minute wait to get seated and the same to get served. Left very full early afternoon. Quite busy.

Random stop. A hidden gem with lots of cakes and good food to choose from. Dog friendly which is a big plus for us.

Update: we have come here quite a few time and have noticed recently that service is now poor and prices have rocketed. Last time we came we sat down and were ignored for 15 minutes despite trying to get waiting staff attention. We left and won't be back. We had a lovely lunch here, with delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely somewhere to stop for lunch, a coffee or some delicious cakes.

Well what a lovely place this was. Driving past looking for somewhere that was dog friendly not just tolerating us sat out side. We were very happy to find this gem. Is it dog friendly....yes yes yes it is. In fact the dogs each got a cuddle on arrival and departure. The food was beautiful too xx definitely go and definitely take ur dogs with you.

Came in with a large student group, with no notice. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and every bite we ate was marvelous. They handled our group swiftly. Both the hot breakfasts and pastries were fresh and perfect. And the coffees/teas were all top shelf. Thank yous!! WE WILL BE BACK.

By far the best cheesecake I've had in a long time. The shop is very simple, but still very nicely decorated. Our waitress Agnes was also very friendly and gave us the best advice. Stopped here on our way back from ayr, really good little cafe! Food was really good and the service was good aswell. I got the pancakes, Portion size was moderate but it was tasty. My pal got a roll and added an extra square sausage, seemed on tge expensive side fir a breakfast roll but he enjoyed it and had no complaints. Would recommend this place to people

Just popped in for a quick wake us up takeaway coffee. Good decision, one of the best coffees we've had while travelling Scotland. Shame we are travelling away, won't be able to have another one.

Pleasant coffee and cake as part of a stopover break from the ferry. Really lovely tasting coffee and a nice selection of cakes on display. Not to mention a very funny story overheard from the employees which made the experience more enjoyable! Definitely would recommend going to dine to or from your destination.

Just awful. Place was freezing. Coffee was verging on cold, service was a joke. Lady took order then never came back. We eventually had to ask the owner who was just as bad. Was like something from Faulty Towers. Used to visit this place a lot. Loved it. Won’t be back

The perfect stop-off en route to Cairnryan. Easy parking. Very friendly to dogs as well as us humans. We had a small breakfast, which was all good, and a pot of tea.

Visiting en route to the boat. Thought it was a great stop. Staff were so nice. Service good. Very friendly to our dog giving him some sausages and biscuits. Very warm and cosy on a cold wet day. Didn’t find it overpriced (£26 for two bacon rolls, 4 drinks, 2 sausages and a biscuit). Overall would recommend and thought it was a great pit stop especially as it was dog friendly

Amazing visit here on Easter Sunday. Atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed from the get go. We ordered loaded fries, fish and chips, soup and 2 coffees and a tea. Service was great and our server was helpful. Food was to die for! Up there with some of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Portions were huge, great quality and chips were delicious.

Tables jam packed far too closely together, I don’t want to sit on my neighbours knee, food is way too overpriced … it’s a wee cafe in the country unexciting at best . Food nothing like as good as it was a year ago. Cakes etc no comparison to this time last year . Sorry won’t hurry back

Very busy as Easter weekend. Still managed to get parked and got last table. Service great. Order taken quickly and everyone enjoyed their lunch. All four of us said we would return 👍

It's a shame it Looks the part a quient traditional coffee house But that's it is extortionate. They sold us an empire biscuit looked like a McGhees at £3.50 you can buy a box of 12 from costco for £4.99 a massive profit. Nothing looked homebaked.Rip off Your customers should'nt be exploited

The improvements under the new management cannot be overstated: from being greeted by a smiling face at the door to having delicious food brought, piping hot, to our table with a minimum of delay, The Smithy has fast become our go-to place for a tasty lunch or spontaneous breakfast treat.

Disappointed with the coffee, it was weak and bitter. Food looked good though but didn't try any of it. Service a bit slow but they were busy, and were very pleasant when they did serve us.

Place was nearly empty but still had to wait to be seated. Provided with menus but nobody came to take order. Two people walked in for ' takeaways' and got served immediately. Our order still wasn't taken by second person serving so we left.

Wonderful place. Very good cake and coffee and staff are all amazing. Very clean and nice atmosphere. Highly recommended

A lovely restaurant was there on 7th March for lunch. Our food was great. I had baked potato with Macaroni cheese, my husband had a baguette. Both delicious. The decor is beautiful and the waiter was charming. We couldn’t eat all our food so he gave us a doggy bag to take home. Would highly recommend. Lovely restaurant, great food and charming staff.

Stopped off in work van on way to job; two bacon rolls, black coffee and a bit lemon drizzle cake - £16.05. Far too expensive for what it was. Cach and carry brioche buns, not even local bakery Scottish roll. Zero love on a plate.

Good food, lovely service but it was very loud in here. Voices and coffee making machine echoed around the place. I recall it was like this before. It's like it needs acoustic deadening. One huge bonus, the toilets are now in the restaurant rather than outside.

Good food good service a bit pricey

This place is great. Lovely atmosphere lovely food and great service. I stopped with my family 2 hungry teenagers my wife and i. We had American pancakes a big Scottish breakfast and a vegetarian one too it was all lovely- potato cakes fried in butter need I say more. If you are in the area and are hungry stop here the cakes looked fab too but your not supposed to have cake with breakfast.

Just had a delicious afternoon tea this afternoon, and we were provided boxes to take away what we did not eat and that was a lot , it consisted of soup, sandwiches, scones , strawberry tart and selection of cakes extremely worth the price paid.

Absolutely fantastic place. Staff couldn't be more helpful. My wife couldn't make it out for her 30th birthday due to just coming out of hospital and staff went above and beyond to make the most amazing afternoon tea for us to all have at home.. Delicious sandwiches and soup.....AMAZING Cakes and massive portions sizes. Highly recommend. 10/10. Thankyou so much.

Cari amici ve lo sconsiglio. Il cibo, se lo volete chiamare cibo, è inmangiabile e di pessima qualità, i dolce niente di eccezzionale. Sinceramente abbiamo pagato esageratamente per quello che abbiamo mangiato. Riguardo al servizio posso dire che erano gentili, ma come spessissimo accade, lentissimi e con molte dimenticanze. Scrivono dog friendly, ma solo se avete un cagnolino minuscolo, se come noi avete un cane grosso non ve lo fanno entrare, questo è comprensibile vista la dimensione del posto e come è organizzato internamente.

Owner was extremely pleasant and attentive. We ordered breakfast rolls brioche bun was a bit over toasted for my liking and fried potato scone was a bit soggy. Overall I will visit again to try some of the delish looking food and homemade cakes.

This was our very first visit but after today’s experience, we won’t be back. Staff member was welcoming and order taken quickly. Two coffees, a scone and a small glass of milk. When the scone arrived, it was rock hard, dry and crumbly and very difficult to cut open. Basically inedible. I suspect this was a scone left over from yesterday. Was shocked at what this cost. Was not asked if everything was ok. Such a ‘let down’ ! Overpriced and underwhelming.

Get there early if you want a good scone!

The best Scotland place where I was very nicely served and the food was very goodddd.

Customer service is sadly lacking and attitude of a certain member of staff is poor. Asked for a table to be cleared as we were sitting in a very cold spot near door on a bitterly cold day and wanted to move table . Was told by her “ this isn’t something I can do” . Service was slow so overall A very negative disappointing experience . The owner needs to take heed of the many negative reviews .

Quite a unique wee cafe this. It’s obviously been lovingly refurbished and decorated by the owner. You can see the care and pride they take in the way it looks and it rubs off into the atmosphere, service and food. Was served by the owner and made to feel most at home whilst we had our coffee and cake. Menu is classic local cafe lunch and brunch with a smattering of some lovely baked goods. You might be tempted to just drive past but I suggest you don’t. You’ll not be disappointed!! Bonus points for step free access and great toilets.

Visited with my son today and it was very disappointing. We were seated quickly and drinks brought to the table straight away. We waited a bit of time before having our order taken but nothing compared to the wait for the food. We only ordered a cheese toastie and a portion of chips and waited over 30 minutes. £8.95 for a small toastie and very small side salad is shocking! We then waited over 20 mins for the plates to be cleared. Ordered 2 cakes, a yum yum and chocolate Krispy. I was confused when both were served with a latte spoon and the yum yum was served with pouring cream all over it! When I asked to exchange this, the girl was very unhelpful and said she would need to see. Plain yum yum was then served but completely stale! During the time we were eating our food another family left as they had been told 20 mins for food and when it didn’t arrive they were told it would be a further 15 mins. Not surprising they chose to leave at this point! £25 later, I wish we had chosen to leave too! Very disorganised, slow and inattentive service! Won’t be returning.

Been here before was really good that’s our reason to return. However today’s visit has totally change my experience of the Smithy. Arrived at 1pm seated for 4 right away ordered within 2 minutes. Two couples arrived after our arrival served and finished their meal whilst we were still waiting. I could go on but the simple conclusion is we won’t be back to The Smithy!!!

Nice big car park. Nice inside very friendly staff. Good coffee lovely food and good sized portions. Cakes are expensive but you get a decent sized piece and so bloody yummy. Dangerous for the waist line cause I want to try them all.

Very poor quality of food, staff (particularly young staff) are treated very poorly by the owner and the older staff. Anytime we have visited we are never made to feel welcome, getting asked for our orders feels like its a chore for the older staff members. Younger staff appear to be used for cheap labour. Overall poor quality food at expensive prices, wouldn't recommend it to anyone and certainly will never be back. The owner should be ashamed at the way she runs her business

Simply superb. Wife, myself and a friend went for a treat and it didn't dissappoint. Super food, cakes, scones, in fact everything you want as well as staff that will go out of their way to help. Please visit, you'll love it.

Breakfast was ok but for small breakfast and 1 large breakfast £28 which I think was so over priced Restaurant was cold and not very inviting ,service was decent .Don't think I will rush back ,,sorry.

Have been at The Smithy once before and it was very good and that is why we returned today. But today it was awful. My daughter got a baked potato which was hard and uncooked and I asked for a cheese and pickle toastie but they didn’t do pickle and had to take mango chutney. I could have made a better toasties at home. The toastie came with a teaspoon of coleslaw and dorito type crisp which were stale. This cost me £8.95 (OMG) and the baked potato which was changed but still dreadful was £10 with a dessert spoon of cheese and a small portion of coleslaw. They actually asked if everything was ok when I was paying but I complained and had the drinks removed from the total price. They were £2.65 each...really for a can of Fanta Don't know where they get the prices from which are certainly ridiculous for the what we received. We had been there before and my daughter asked for the same as today, baked potato with cheese and coleslaw which came with a huge salad. Were told that they no longer serve salad on plates and have stopped pickle for the toasties I'm almost sure we wouldn't be the only disappointed customers. Will definitely not be going back and would advise others not to waste their money.

Met up with a few friends for lunch and a catch up and choose here due to its central location. On entering, you expect to be met with a warm reception and a smile, both were missing. Lunch order taken again without a smile and...

Called in for a quick coffee and cake while passing in the camper. Plenty of parking available. Delicious coffee and cakes as well even 1 vegan cake option. Service was prompt, staff are all lovely. Although it was nice to get vegan cake there was only 1 choice out of 29 different cakes and biscuits on offer. Slices of cake did seem to be on the small side in comparison to the others, however it was very nice and I would go back again. Lovely place

Simply excellent, they could offer a ciabatta roll as an alternative to the brioche, but Lynsey was a delight.
