Fabulous service! Chef was about to finish for the night but squeezed us in and even accommodated one vegetarian - couldn’t ask for more. Food was hot and delicious. Lovely staff who were really friendly. Was a customer for years with the previous management and will definitely be back!

We visited the Smith's with our friends on sat 9th of September. We had a meal there my husband and out one friend had cornedbeef pie while myself had steak and my friend had the fish I have to say that the food was excellent cooked perfectly plpeing hot and well presented .would recommend the Smith's to everyone and we certainly b back. And o the landlord gareth was very good too.

We have been regular diners for years and seen it change hands but the chef has been brilliant. We always order the same meal because the rump steak, home made onion rings and pepper sauce are the best. Our meal tonight was terrible,not the same meal, and we were told they have a different chef. I brought the steak home for my dog!!!! Such a shame, we won't be going back

Very impressed with Sue who went the extra mile in making sure that our birthday party had an enjoyable evening . Also the food was faultless and the waitress was very attentive.

Tonight had a family 40th birthday meal nothing was too much trouble outstanding customer service and friendly thank you very much

We visited on a friday night! Our starters were cold and not very tasty! Our mains were pretty much the same sadly! Our steak was cold and 3 of the 4 wasn’t cooked as we asked for! We were disappointed with the food overall! Pub has a nice atmosphere but on this occasion our food wasn’t good!

This pub was recommended to us for Sunday lunch & we were not disappointed . Lovely “fresh” Vedge & tasty tender meat , lovely gravy & great value for money

Warm welcome. Delicious roast potatoes and home made gravy. Excellent service. Although let down with dessert orders (they had run out of apple pie and we had to change our orders - but alternative delicious). Will definitely be returning

Worst food ever couldn’t understand how the pub was packed with people eating food. Won’t be going there again

I have been to the Smiths Arms a few times now for meals with friends, family and for special occasions. Glyn and his wife were always so welcoming and would come to your table for a little chat before your meal. However last night was a different story. It's recently been taken over by someone else... A friends food was overcooked, she asked nicely if she could have another one and on both occasions with two different members of staff the food came back and she was told that's the way it should be. So basically she was being forced to eat something she didn't want. She was told she could order another meal but would need to pay for the two, this was then retracted when we spoke to the manager. The manager came to our table and the first thing he said was "who's the one complaining then?" Disgusting attitude from start to finish. He brought the plate of food back to the table and started stabbing at it with a fork and kept asking my friend "is this over cooked? Is it? Is it?" Absolutely gobsmacked at the way he spoke to us all. Needless to say we will never be having our group meals there again. So sad as we loved going there and the food was always superb!

We had a wonderful meal here this evening. The food was perfectly cooked and a generous portion. The service was attentive without being over the top. Will definitely be back!

First time here for a meal on a Friday night. Had a lovely meal with home made chips. Wife was delighted with her cheese and potato pie. Gammon was lovely. Busy pub with a lovely ambience. Great service and reasonable prices. Take note that it is cash only which is unusual nowadays.Will definitely be back.

A little bit more expensive than other pub grub by it's well worth the money. We had a variety of meals between the 12 of us and everyone enjoyed what they had

We went for Sunday lunch. There was a choice of beef pork or turkey or a bit of each. The beef was lovely and really tender the turkey was proper turkey not prosessed. The veg was brought In a seperate serving dish. It was very nice home cooked food with home cooked gravy. It's advisable to book as it's very popular on a Sunday we recieved a warm welcome from the friendly staff and we would definatly go again for Sunday lunch and are considering going for a mid week bar meal. One point.. they don't accept card payments so take enough cash!

Love this place. Staff are very friendly, always there for a chat. Drinks are reasonably priced and food is good for the price. Worth a visit.

We took our friends for a meal on a Saturday afternoon. The proprietor could not have been more accommodating, courteous and made us feel really welcome. Our meals excellent, all being "homemade", chips especially, were well made and tasty. Prices were very reasonable and we all agreed it was good value for money. I would recommend the pub to anyone.

have been to the smiths several times and it just gets better. had lunch there today and what a treat. our steaks were perfect, battered onions to die for, best chips ever ,and the salad was gorgeous. the service was great , love this oldie worldy pub. so friendly .

Queso y tarta era una porción de muy buen tamaño y muy sabroso. Marido dijo lasaña también era bueno. Personal muy educado y amable. No está mal para una comida tradicional de pub. La única crítica es que cuando reserva una mesa realmente debería explicar que es un efectivo único pub para evitar tener que conducir al pueblo local para reintegros en cajeros o efectivo.

Decent lunch and cheap at less than £7. Comfortable surroundings. Don't accept cards though and this isn't advertised.

the food is a cut above the usual pub grub, it is home-made and real chips! I had the cheese and potato pie with 2 fried eggs and beans and it was huge and delicious. Lovely to see that they have a few options for vegetarians. My friends both opted for the steak pie and both were extremely happy with their choice. The owners are very friendly and we will definately return

Lovely food and hospitality from staff at the Smith's. Catered to a party of 15 - the only downside being a table of 4 were sat away from the main bulk of us so they felt a little isolated - another party had booked at the same time as us so perhaps an oversight on table planning and organising, etc. Nevertheless the meals were fantastic and extremely generous. Will return soon!

Not a lot to say really other than good is stunning, been here around 10 times now and food just gets better and better It is a small venue and you will always need to book early as it's always jam packed Which speaks for its self really

I had never been to The Smiths Arms before and only went as I had seen such good reviews on TripAdvisor. We arrived having not booked ( we should have as it was busy) - but we got a warm greeting from the chap behind the bar and they accommodated us quickly. Its a nice warm friendly pub and the staff are chatty and friendly. We had Sunday lunch and it was great value - lots of food and really enjoyable. The choice was Pork, Beef or Turkey and you couldnt fault it. I cant comment on the desserts as we were all so full we couldnt manage any. 3 Sunday lunches and we had change out of a £20 note! Great value along with friendly staff - we will be back!

We found this pub/restaurant to be a little gem.The staff were very friendly and down-to-earth, and the food was gorgeous. Very well priced and plenty to choose from. The portions are very generous too.As for the place itself, from the outside it looked very small so I didn't hold out much hope, but how wrong could I be? It is spotlessly clean and the ladies toilets are a must see (in toilet terms of course).I would not hesitate to go there again,Many Thanks

Tired and very hungry after a long day, we looked on trip advisor for somewhere in the vicinity to eat. We settled on this one. Parked right outside the door, a real warm welcoming atmosphere with a lovely fire going in the corner. We were 45 mins too early to order food (hungryyyyyy) so ordered a couple of wines and enjoyed the fire whiling the time away. Then the lady came over and said she'd asked the chef to start early because we were hungry. Wow. And it was proper comfort food. Steak pie, pastie, chips, gravy, piping hot and didn't take too long - but clearly not microwaved! We were checked on after the food was served, but definitely not intrusive or over the top. They don't take cards so had to go get cash which was no problem. Got chatting to the proprietors when paying up and they were lovely. Really wanted to be sure we'd enjoyed our food etc. Even gave us some tips for our next trip - and for sure I will eat here next time. It might not be cordon bleu but if you want good food in a warm and friendly place then this is it. Oh and very reasonable, 2 great plates of food and a bottle of wine £27.

Had many a Sunday lunch in the Smiths got to say they are the best in the valleys, real value for money and beautiful home cooked food.We also had meals in the evening for special occasions and they are also really nice, you have to go a long way to beat this place.

Went for lunch with my family on Saturday afternoon, thought we would give it a chance after reading the reviews and we weren't disappointed. The food was great, we had home-made lasagne and chips (gorgeous chips), and smothered chicken and chips, both of which were cooked to perfection. Pleasant decor, friendly atmosphere. Not many people eating in there which normally puts me off, but please give it a try! Stunning! Oh and you must go and see the ladies room decor - Marilyn Monroe fans' delight! I have asked them about putting a website with their menu online which they are hoping to do shortly. Good pub-food normal price range, also do cheaper menu with special offers.

Lovely pub to go for a drink and the food is fanstatic! Whenever I've been here it has always been packed, the sundays lunches are delicious and also a good place for family parties. The food they present is incredible, and so well present on the table. Clean and tidy in the pub, the beer garden and also the rest rooms (ladies as i haven't seen the mens) are immaculately decorated and kept clean and tidy!

I will keep it short! Amazing staff, great welcome, superb food and great value for money. Wish I could get there more often. Keep up the great work!!!! Service with a smile makes me a very happy customer and leaving with a full belly without an empty purse!!!Gill

My first choice for a family meal out. If you eat in the week, you cannot fault the large thick gammon with real pineapple. On Sundays, the best beef dinner in the area. Beef pulls apart with a fork and is amazingly tastey.

Last time I was here was about 3 or so years ago. Looked very tired and in need of a makeover! We had a lovely warm welcome by not only the owners but also the locals. Menu was your usual style of pub food, nicely cooked and presented-steak cooked to medium as requested with all the trimmings plus lovely homemade chips and onion rings. Servings were quite large and covered every inch of the plate! Would certainly go back again.

Booked for my nieces 18th birthday which fell on Fathers Day and was amazed to get a table for 15 plus high chair. Everyone's meal was superb - plenty of food and piping hot. The beef was to die for and the gravy was properly homemade. Best Sunday lunch I have ever eaten out and the desserts were just as good. Friendly, helpful staff who couldn't do enough to ensure we had a great time. Have book again for next Sunday - it's that good.

Fantastic, huge Sunday lunch with delicious desserts including the famous Strawberry cheesecake. Had a few evening meals here too, mouthwatering steak and the best gammon I've ever eaten. Can't recommend this place enough :-)Be sure to book early for Sunday lunch or you will be disappointed

Been here a few times now for Sunday Lunch & will keep returning ! We have tried most of the local pubs etc but this is without doubt the best we have had. Great staff very friendly & landlord & landlady are so welcoming. I have recommended The Smiths to numerous friends & none have been disappointed. Not tried the evening meals yet but probably will try on our next meal out. If you go out for Sunday lunch try this place.

First of all the welcome is superb. Traditional pub with great landlords and very friendly staff. The service is really good and reasonably priced drinks. The food ! Everything you would want in a home cooked Sunday lunch none of the microwave rubbish you get at big chains. We had the beef and I must say is the best beef I have ever tasted plentiful on the plate that just falls away when cutting that melts in your mouth. Highly recommend. Now the downside !! After such a large dinner at a excellent price of £5.95 I was too full to attemp a desert although they did look good. If the dinner was to go by I doubt they would disappoint. I would highly recommend this place as I don't believe there is many places that would come anywhere near. It's nice to see that traditional pubs can still be up there with the best Well Done

This is my 5th time at The Smiths Arms. I would be here every Sunday if I could. The welcome, the atmosphere, the staff and of course the food is all just exceptional. Drinks are not over priced. I love everything about this place. I often change the time due to travelling from Bridgend and nothing is too much trouble, they accomodate me without any bother at all. Great work!! went there for my nephews 40th birthday lovely pub great karoke great night until they brought out the buffet if you can call it that sandwiches sausage rolls and a pastie not what you expect a little more variety would have been nice such a shame great little pub pity about the food

Our party of 5 ranged from a toddler to grandmother and all ordered different food. Despite the wait the food was freshly made and excellent! Good value and delightful staff, will return for certain!

What a pleasant surprise, decided to pop out for a mid week bar meal at the Smiths Arms with my wife and six year old daughter. we walked in to be immediatly greeted by the landlord and landlady, Jan and Glyn. Orderd some drinks and took in the surroundings. Log burner in corner and pool table in one side of the bar area. Other side made up of bar and seating area with a well layed out pub restaurant feel to it. Some really friendy regulars were at the bar also whom also welcomed us. Good choice of drinks that were cold in fresh glasses each time by really lovely staff.Great menu with a good choice of meals, many of which are homemade in house and all at very reasonable prices. To note: Real chips and homemade onion rings should give you an indication of how good the menu and food was. Fantastic.A real pub with great staff, clientel and a landlord and landlady who are so genuine and friendly that they make you feel youve been visiting for years.Excellent and we will 100% be back next week.

Pros: The Smiths Arms is a cosy local boozer with some character, tucked on the end of Commercial Street in Fleur de Lys, Pengam near Blackwood. There is plenty of comfy seating, a pool table, a roaring fire on cold days and a pub menu, though I didn't eat so can't comment. Decent selection of ales and other fine victuals. Prices seem reasonable. I gather the people in charge are fairly new. They were certainly friendly and popular with the local crowd. Nice laid back atmosphere. Will certainly visit again. Cons: Loos screaming for an upgrade and no towel in the gents.
