The Smithfield Market Tavern in Manchester

Great venue, plus we got live music as a large group of people had been repping earlier who got to run a free gig!

Ok it was Sunday evening visit but they had run out of various drinks. Staff must have been tired because service was bland. I didn't like the "no cash" rule particularly when the tip option flashs on the device and it was drawn away before I could study it. OK I'm an old fart, but I love northern quarter pubs but not this one.

Excellent pub, recommend the live DJs from The Devils Jukebox first sat of the month.

This is a nice bar, good service and nice ambiance. However, I ordered 4 double vodkas and cokes and was flabbergasted to be asked for £52! The most expensive 4 drinks I ever bought (and I’m 40 and been out all over the world a lot). Manchester is now the most expensive place in the world? Or just this bar ??

Lager i had was not my normal choice. Service was friendly and cheerful

A lovely little pub and right next door to Band on the Wall, where we were going to see a gig. I had no problem getting served. However, I was slightly disappointed that they didn't take cash at this place. It was card payments only! But I'm guessing it's a security thing 🤔

Super ace staff, great atmosphere, awesome music, and an excellent monthly quiz. All with great beer and cider. What's not to love.

Such a great place! They change what they have on tap frequently so you get to try new beers from different breweries, lots and lots of choice! Super friendly staff, and darts/bar billiards available - can't beat it!

Very poor experience in the Smithfield tavern. Stayed here way back in the 80s when it was the Smithfield hotel. Unfortunately this new craft beer tavern s a bit wushu wasn’t. Strange selection of craft beer, quite expensive too. But my main gripe is the fact that THE SMITHFIELD DONT ACCEPT CASH Shameful really for any pub to go o this route and more notably a so called craft beer pub. I definitely won’t be back, E V E R

Fantastic locally produced ales

Very good pub about fifteen minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly. Six cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I visited including a porter and a milk stout. Outdoor seating in the beer garden to the rear. The pub has a bar billiard table and a dart board although both were unavailable when I was there before the Manchester United game against Spurs at Old Trafford.

Nice atmosphere and music but doesn’t take cash. Card only. When will these places realise that systems go down like they recently have and if they’re card only they have to close until service resumes. We still need cash!

I love this place the beer, the staff. Ian and i need to get here more often that we do. Vicky and the team are amazing.

Very disappointing. Looks fine and has a decent selection of cask ales but the prices are shocking. £7-60 for a pint of bitter and a small glass of diet coke is robbery. We went to several pubs on the day and this was by far the most expensive and the only one where we couldn't even pay with the legal currency of the country. Absolutely ridiculous so will certainly avoid in the future.

Classic old city pub brought up to date by Blackjack but keeping the traditional edge. Great range of cask & keg beers. Even better with the expansion of space, cosy and relaxed atmosphere except at weekends when it can get busy. The cask range is mainly theirs, kegs have more guest beers.

Lovely bar with plenty of choice

Every so often you come across a pub that has the full package, perfect cask and keg beers, great ciders, a perfect landlord and a buzzing atmosphere, this was one of those pubs. On entry of the pub you could just feel that we had come somewhere special, laughter and joy, friends talking etc. I went to the bar but didn't know the brewery, Blackjack, so the landlord asked what beers i liked which to be fair is most styles apart from reds so without asking he passed me about five tasters, outstanding. This place was so good we stayed all evening drinking and chatting to new friends. Because of these extra special places im introducing a new system, a gold crown which means very highly recommended and should definitely be visited, this is the first 👑

Be very careful in this pub when paying by card, if u inadvertently touch the screen before u pay it will add a tip to your card !! I'm not kidding. Yet another cashless pub 3 out 4 now in Manchester !!

I visited this propper Manchester locals real ale pub on Saturday 11th September 2021 This pub fully deserves full stars from me, serves brilliant rare beers and has brilliant staff and clientele, and the atmosphere in this pub is ace Sunday 12th March 2023 I again revisited what was and still is one of Manchester,s greatest real ale pubs it is now Black Jack's Brewery taps Great staff, great clientele, and anyone who loves real ale and great pub atmosphere who hates been in here wants sectioning I wish I could give this place 6 stars Saturday 30th December 2023 Today, we again drank in this fantastic northern quarter Manchester pub The choice of home brewed Black Jack's hand pumped ales as always superb The people drinking in here tonight was a pleasant and polite bunch, as were the staff A place of a must gor real ale drinkers to frequent when in Manchester

Happened upon this place whilst wandering the streets with my mate for a pint and we had one pint and it's a cool spot if you want a relaxing drink and nothing more. Service was fine, worth the one stop drink.

In the sometimes chaos that is Manchester this is a lovely little oasis serving some truly amazing ales with a great proper friendly pub atmosphere!

A really chilled out pub/bar, just a nice place to have a drink. Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks on offer. Atmosphere during the day is incredibly relaxed, a good place to visit if you want a drink but don't want to go to a loud bar. Good music and good drinks on offer!

Lively brewery tap from the Black Jack Brewery. Lots of choice on both keg and cask from the brewery themselves and guests. Well kept cask in my experience.

Visited today walking past and this is a fantastic pub,cozy and comfortable. Big selection of cask and keg. Tap house of the blackjack brewery who never disappoint. Definitely worth a visit.

Superb Manchester city centre pub. Great range of its own Blackjack ales plus plenty of guest beers. Great selection of cider too. On this visit had a lovely pint of Irk Street Pale.

Old pub, modern beers, just with they had more local beers

changed a hell of a lot since I was last here - proper boozer back then but upmarket now with a good choice of ales

Good pub for socialising and serious drinking (without trouble!) They sell Beer from the local brewery and I have to say, it was a smooth creamy beer we tried - which was really nice. I think when I say 'serious drinkers pub', it specialises in real ale - for the connasiour (don't know if I've spelt that correctly 🤔) They do sell a lot more different bottled beers, wines and spirits. My only gripe if any was the decor seemed a bit plain but if we're there for a drink, the decor's not truly that important. Good Pub 😁

Never visited this place before. Loved it. Really nice surroundings,friendly and helpful staff. They have quiz nights wednesday so want to try that. I recommend a visit.
