Not a vast menu, but caters for vegetarians and vegans as well, which is always welcome. Food was all freshly cooked and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Made an impromptu brunch stop here and so glade we did . Nice big car park opposite the pub and a lovely beer garden, with a slabbed out patio area or you can sit on tables in the grassed part (which offers you more space - or obviously inside the pub itself ) . We both had a lovely steak baguette, plenty of meat and nice bread. Good speedy service ( despite being busy ) and really friendly staff so a great place to stop if you’re driving between Monmouth and Tintern.

Situated on the A40, with a car park on the opposite side of the road, and serving food all day Sunday, it was a welcome stop over. The menu was varied and even had a vegan option. Pleasant staff, clean and a good pint of beer, and not too expensive.

A great spot for a bite to eat or a drink following a long walk. A great selection of sandwiches, ciabatta and hot meals.

We came here for lunch, midweek in January so it was quiet with only one other customer there during our visit. This suited us perfectly as we practically had the place to ourselves and were able to enjoy a family game of pool while waiting for our meals. We wanted a light lunch so my daughter and I shared a pie. We had the pulled pork and cider apple pie, one of the pie specials for the day, it was very nice. We had it with mash which was a generous serve of potato and another of sweet potato, also came with peas and a very nice gravey (I'm fussy about gravey). Everything was nice and we were both really full after half a meal as the sides were so generous. The list of pies that are available (different ones each day) all sounded delicious. The front bar where we ate was pleasant and the guy who served us was friendly. Would recommend if passing by.

Very friendly, we were entertained by the Darts team, we were asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant because of the darts match, but we opted for eating in the bar, great night. Food was very good.

Just returned from staying at the Sloop Inn. We had Room 1 with a 4 poster bed which was extremely comfortable, the view out of the window over the valley was wonderful, food was good and staff very friendly. It was a lovely 3 days. Will be back next year.

We both had a Beef Dinner which was really lovely, there were 3 slices of Beef that melted in your mouth, also followed by Sherry Trifle and Irish Liquor Cheesecake, both were delicious. Lovely setting, and on a nicer day it would have been lovely to sit in the garden.

The menu choice was fantastic. What could be better than overlooking the R.Wye (quite high up) eating and drinking in amiable surroundings.

We chose to visit this pub as we were staying locally. We felt rather unwelcome, eating in an empty restaurant. The food was ok but not exceptional.

Unfortunately the restaurant was empty apart from us so no atmosphere. Not the most welcoming of pubs I've ever been in. If you chose the typical pub food it was exactly what was expected. The homemade chicken pies were very good but the steak less so. Very good local beers.

We were travelling back to Gilwern at the end of our day trip out, looking for somewhere to eat. We came upon The Sloop pub. Large Carpark across the road. Dog freindly, reasonably quie, comfortable with a good menu choice. Food good, hot and quick to come.

Have been to the Sloop twice this week. The first time we missed food by 15 minutes...and they re-opened the kitchen for us! A trio of sausages and 2 plates of fish cakes later we were very happy! On our second visit we timed it more carefully. Again, the food was great and the service was excellent too. Will definitely be returning on our next Welsh trip.

We were so glad to find this pub after visiting Tintern Abby. It was children friendly and the food was good quality pub grub. I would happily recommend this place as just a nice decent place to eat.

We were staying in Llandogo and the Sloop was the only option. So we booked and were served a decent pub meal. It seemed to take ages to arrive but the waitress could not have been nicer. Alas the proprietor could do with a course in "making you feel welcome and wanted" - he has much to learn in that area.

Although the Sloop Inn doesn't promise much from the outside, we found it a friendly and busy locals' pub. We enjoyed our sea bass dinner, and sticky toffee pudding, and had fun watching a ladies' darts match!

Had a light lunch which was very nice and then returned for a Sunday lunch a few days later. The food was presented very well and the roast was very acceptable and lots of it. I am very fussy about Sunday Roasts and rarely go back as they are usually not good and I won't justify the expense when my home cooked ones are much better - however, we will come back here again. Service was great in the restaurant.

We called in here just to try it. My partner picked something off the menu but wasn't keen on one of the sides that it came from. No problem...he got asked if he wanted extra of one of the other sides it came with or would he like to replace it with another side off the menu. Great service! Food was good, certainly filled us up and we were happy. Would go again!

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return
