We have been many times without fault. But on this occasion all went well until we asked if the children's ice cream could be vegan. We had already had a conversation with the young lady at the bar as to deserts and had asked about the vegan ice cream that was on the menu for my grandson's as he was lactose intolerant. A little later a bowl of ice cream was presented as part of his meal and I asked if it was the vegan ice cream due to lactose intolerance, the lovely young lady took the dessert to the Kitchen to ask. To which the chef came storming out of the kitchen, approached the table and quite loudly announce that we should have told them there were allergies at the table, waving the menu about and pointing out "please tell us if you have an allergy" quite rudely and in front of a dinning room full of people. It was quite embarrassing and actually scared my grandson as he asked why the lady was shouting! Found this unacceptable as 1. We had already had a descreet conversation with the young lady at the bar who fully understood the INTOLERANCE to lactose. 2. An intolerance is NOT an allergy and therefor not necessary to let anyone know as we just work out from the menu was he can or cannot have on this occasion a burger and chips and an ask to see if a swap the kids ice cream for vegan ice-cream (already an item on the menu!) Unfortunately because of this experience we won't be returning.

My friend and I visited on Tuesday for a pub lunch. It is a 'proper' village pub and the locals were very friendly. The barmaid was really helpful. We ordered the Six Bells Sharing combo... it was very generous!! And delicious. Nothing to fault. We will definately be going back and recommending to other friends.

After a lovely walk around the Cliffe pools nature reserve we decided to have a late lunch here and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We receieved a very warm welcome from a lovely lady called Kayleigh and the food was amazing. We ordered from their winter menu and had their homemade Beef stew, steak and ale pie, and burgers and we couldn't recommend them highly enough. Very tasty, great portions, were very reasonably priced and we would absolutely return here again. The ales were great too of course. What a wonderful local English pub!

Had an excellent lunch here today with friends. We all chose something from the home cooked 'Winter Warmers' menu. The men had the steak & ale pie/pudding which came with mash potato & freshly cooked veg (a rarity today for a pub meal!) My friend had the cottage pie and I had the butter chicken curry. We will definately be returning.

We booked for our large family after reading the reviews left by other customers, and we weren’t disappointed. A greeting from a customer standing outside was friendly and on entering the pub the bar staff were welcoming. Our orders for food and drink were taken and we didn’t have to wait long before it was served. The food was delicious, hot, tasty, and well presented. We will definitely be returning in the new year, maybe for one of their breakfasts. Cliffe village are very lucky to have a pub, landlord and staff like this.

My family and I regularly visit The Six Bells at Cliffe. My kids absolutely love the bouncy castle in the pub's beer garden. We regularly have lunch at The Six Bells too, and the food is always excellent - wholesome, plentiful, traditional pub fayre. The food is very reasonably priced, with generous portion sizes. We would 100% recommend The Six Bells. Family friendly too!

So l went upto order and was told l could only eat in the restaurant my husband and friends had a burger from the BBQ so l wanted to eat with them . So l went into the bar again spoke to this lovely girl and explained l am a veggie not eaten she went to the kitchen and they wouldn’t do me anything . Myself and my friends spend money in the pub but they can’t do veggie food unless l eat it in their restaurant whilst my husband was eating with our friends outside . My friend then asked agai and the kitchen was closed . Disgusting that nowt is available for vegetarians .when asked

I visited The Six Bells with my husband, for lunch, after walking part of the Saxon Shore Way. We received a warm, friendly welcome on arrival. The pub has seating in the bar area, where food can be eaten and there is also an informal restaurant section. All very clean, warm and nicely decorated. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. We both had the burgers and they were excellent. Service was very good. We really liked the atmosphere and the pub is well supported by the locals. We will definitely return. We did not stay in the pub so can only comment on the food.

We were a party of 8 and the service was good as was the food. My only concern when the food was served is that some of the meals were served on a flat wooden platter. As my partner is totally blind I was wondering how we would keep her food on its platter. However, when her food (and mine) was served it was on a conventional plate so that problem was avoided.

Called in here after a long walk on the Hoo peninsula. It’s a pleasant pub and good to see it open again after lockdown. We only wanted a light lunch so chose two items: bread, olives and humus and whitebait which came with a salad garnish and tartar sauce. Both were generous in size and well cooked and served. The Shepherd Neam beer was excellent, but sadly, the only cider available was that awful Bulmers stuff made from concentrated apple juice, sugar and alcohol. I would have expected a Shepherd Neam pub to be able to source Aspall’s cider or other good quality. Service was good and the meals ordered by other customers looked attractive.

Having been to this pub today for a family meal out on a Sunday I was personally very disappointed not only by the limited menu but by the quality of the food. I had the roast chicken dinner which was a very small breast piece of chicken , a portion of burnt dried out roast potatoes and what looked like shop brought Yorkshire puddings which again were very dry. And served up what I think was a beef gravy ??? Very disappointed I’m afraid and will not go back again. Sorry but it’s just a personal review of only the food.

We stayed here in December, check in was easy, the room was pleasant enough. We went out for the afternoon and came back to enjoy the pub early evening. The boss was away and whilst i completely understand a little bit of "while the cat's away..." the evening was horrendous. We decided, after a fight in the pub area, to call it a night and retreated to our room, i had forgotten to ask what time breakfast was, so went back downstairs and had to interrupt the bar staff who were more interested in their evening than talk to me. We decided we would talk to somebody at breakfast the following morning but the person serving breakfast was run off her feet and we were in a rush so I emailed that evening on arriving home. I received a call almost straight away and was promised to be contacted by the owner of the pub when he arrived back from his holiday around the 18th December. I genuinely believed this as the person making the call was as horrified as us at the events the night before. The call never arrived but i suspected Christmas would be their busy time so i waited until January and sent another email, this time it was completely ignored, hence this review. I try to be fair and have been very patient before leaving this review but the lack of communication has been terrible. I would not recommend this pub/hotel to anybody.

We had a pre-wedding meal here and the food was all really good, the feedback from my party was all good. The waiting time was a bit long but to be fair they were doing a big christmas meal as well which was booked before us, because of this our food came out at different times, some were waiting a while but we were all in good spirits so not an issue. The food was all delicious, I had the lasagne which was good - not quite to my preference, my heart is closer to very tomato-y Italian original but it was a good lasagne nonetheless.I was getting married the next day and staying at the Six Bells with my 2 best men in a family room. The pub closed at 1am and unfortunately our room was just above the pool/ snooker area where a particularly loud/ competitive family were playing which kept me up. Should not have been much of a problem still, as even waking up at 9 would still be 8 hours but one of my best men was loudly snoring. The radiator was on in our room which I didn't realise and it did get uncomfortably warm, but I like to sleep in a cold room. All of this being said, the bed was fantastically comfortable. The bathroom was decent and clean, if not a bit small, had a shower, sink, toilet got the job done!Breakfast the following morning was really, really good, cannot fault them one bit! Breakfast is included with the rooms, only the mega-breakfast you would have to pay a bit extra for, and the food was fantastic. We also had a shuttle to the wedding venue the following morning at 11:30, which was really good. They normally do them 45 mins before the wedding ceremony and i think pick you up at 11:45pm but as we were staying over at Cooling the following night and had to be onsite early they perfectly catered to our needs. Transfer is £10 per way but if i'm perfectly honest I forgot to pay the guy, or he was being nice as I was the groom but either way, good service.

Avoid this hotel! Startered off kinda well when we was able to get in our room except asking us for payment even though we had already paid we had lunch in the garden was lovely then it all went downhill. The private bathroom we had which is a couple doors down so me and husband took it in turns to shower kids to be told to stop showering as it was leaking well it wasnt possible to stop my husband and daughter showering mid shower so told to wait and not shower while he finds us another ensuite nothing I go down to ask if anything no nothing so just have to use it then where we felt under pressure me and my daughter literally jumped in and out. No service was avilable to get us to cooling castle which was the main selling point for us so ordered a uber. When we got back the room was unforcomfertable and hot we had all windows open which welcomed noise in which we didnt care end of day your above a pub but still did not make the room any cooler! To get to bathroom you need a key to get in and out which are stiff with locks so have to keep moving and pushing door which creates noise so when 4 years old child need a wee at 4am sure people in rooms next door didnt appreciate our noise. There was dead spiders and bugs in the room. Women in morning was good breakfast was good. When I went to mention my un happiness she said manager away speak when back but we had a room avilable you should of been given that one to shower in but I advised we were told there was nothing avilable!. Just called to speak to manager and WOW! SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE WORST EVER!!! we paid £136 for a room with separate bath room 2 adults 2 children out of everyone at the wedding we paid the most for accommodation and had less of a room. My advice look around more. Very disappointed that even the manager could not even be bothered to listen then just ask so what...as in what am I complaining about! Disgusting I've worked in customer service for 15 years and never come across something so shocking! Room was defo over priced biggest waste of money!... would not recomened to anyone.

The breakfast (the good old "full english") was very good, plentyful and delicious. The service was very friendly. The only "downside" was - when you stay at the B&B; over a weekend you must be aware of the noise from the pub below. It is very well going and on Friday and Saturday it is very busy. Firstly , the bar maid was the loveliest , friendliest bar maid we have come across for along time ...even asking me if my wine was ok - and it was lovely. Ale good also. The lunch was a real surprise. Whoever the cook was who made the chicken pie should be proud of such an amazing meal - loads of chicken and a sauce that you could tell was homemade - so tasty - and real mash not instant and cabbage, beans, peas and carrots - all fresh - best pub meal I've had for months if not years. My husband's spaghetti bolognese was amazing - large portion all homemade by the looks of it and a bowl of cheese to go on top. Great food, great drinks, great value and great music - someone on the same musical wavelength as me! Friendly, honest and such a welcome find after such a beautiful walk in Cliffe Pools. There is so much to like about this pub. Decoration is contemporary, with great use of untreated wood, the furniture is good quality and very comfortable, cleanliness is to an extremely high standard, the beer is good, and the barmaid is one of the cheeriest people I've had the good fortune to meet, as well as one of the hardest working. But the food........ Our party of seven had to wait almost an hour after placing our order, and when it came, the food was a huge disappointment. None of it had been seasoned, sausages and burgers had been burnt, nothing was garnished, and it was all bland in the extreme.
