We were staying along the road in Box, and the Six Bells in Colerne was recommended for Saturday night pizza’s courtesy of the mobile food van, Only Fools & Morsels. Warmly welcomed in what’s a very friendly local, that nowadays doesn’t do food. Actively encouraged to bring food in - and the pizzas prepared whilst we enjoyed our drinks in the pub were excellent. Don’t know what the place is like other nights of the week but well worth a visit on Saturday evenings.

The food came from the Dog and Fox inn, bradford on avon They are owned/run by the same family The pub (the 6 bells) is a great venue With a big skittle alley (where food was laid out), the bar in the front room, and a wonderful dog friendly garden outback it was the perfect place for a wake. I was able to choose what music was played (All my mums favourite songs!) and had time to set up a monitor with a slide show of photos of my mum. It was a really lovely day, with lovely staff, great drinks, wonderful food, and to top it off perfect weather. I'm so grateful to Tom and Clive for providing great food and a great venue for the day.

My sister in law had booked a table for lunch Saturday 30 March. This morning on the same day of the booking the Six Bells rang to inform her that they would have to cancel her booking as they now have a “film crew” in for lunch. Thank you so very much for informing her at such a late stage, guite obviously the “film crew” are more important, just hope that they are regular customers over the days when your business needs it. Time will tell.... Very bad show and so “word of mouth” when asked will reflect this bad day experience advising others of this very bad practise.

Oh dear, we were cancelled last minute due to them having a film crew in for lunch. As we had booked for over a fortnight how long did they know the film crew were going to be there. Obviously they only want locals when they haven't got any body important (I use that term loosely) using their pub. Hope the film crew are going to be regulars.

A lovely dog friendly village pub. It was busy and quite cramped on our first visit so we didn't stay for long. We returned a couple of weeks later with some family members and it was a lot quieter so we managed to get a table. As the evening went on it did get busier but having the table meant that we didn't feel as cramped and 'in the way' as we had previously. The choice of food on the menu is all lot better than the typical basic 'pub grub' food served in most pubs. The service was good and the food was enjoyed by all.

We will be back to the Six Bells Inn and out of all the great reasons to return, Jimmy is top of the list.

We had a birthday party in the new back room. It's a great place for an event and all had a great time. But the highlight was the buffet laid on - people had come to the party from quite far away and we had A LOT of people say to us how much they'd enjoyed the food. The meat and salads were excellent and plentiful. We've also had Sunday lunch here several times which has been great each time, while we sometimes pop in for drinks and there's always a good atmosphere, too.

Came here with my partner and a friend for dinner. The pub itself is welcoming and cosy and the service was quick and attentive. It is also dog friendly (my friend has a dog!). There was a good selection of tasty sounding food on offer at very reasonable prices. I chose a starter of Tempura king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and my partner chose the calamari. For mains my friend went for the Chicken burger with fries and slaw and my partner and I went for the katsui chicken curry and rice. All dishes were well cooked and tasty - all in all an enjoyable meal.

Drove into car park but is small and has no markings so but chaotic parking. Not surprised that we ended up blocked in when we came out and had to go back in and find car owner blocking us in! Pleasant welcome and nice table. Menu choice was good. Didn't have to wait too long for the food. Overall, food was nice but roast beef was too chewy! Felt it should have been excellent for a main course costing £14.95! Belly pork was tender. Menu mentioned nothing about the Sunday lunch deal whereby you get two courses for £16.95 and three courses for £19.95! It was posted up on a small board at the farthest end of the pub.. so not sure why that was! Bread and butter pudding was delicious but sticky toffee pudding was too dry and the edges were crusty not unlike when you microwave something for too long a time! I mentioned the issues with the beef and the pudding to staff and they apologised, though I might have expected the chef or manager to come and see us and maybe even offer some recompense if they were keen for us to return there again! Given there is another pub in the village offering Sunday lunch, I was surprised that the food and service wasn't consistently excellent!

We were on a Groupon deal so value for money was excellent. Tha 6 Bells is a lovely little pub with a lot of character and a lovely friendly helpful young lady who seems to do everything from serving the drinks to taking the order to serving the meals. She was great but to be honest we were both a little dissapointed with our lunch. My starter of Salt & Pepper Squid was ok but it was in fact just straight forward Calimari with a dusting of Paprika not Salt & Pepper as I know it. My main of Sausage & Mash was ok the sausages were excellent but the mash was far to heavy in whole grain mustard for my taste. My wife's Salmon fishcake was ok but very bland and needed seasoning. I think if the chef had tried it he would agree. And finally my espresso coffee tasted burnt. It wasn't a 'bad' lunch but it was a disappointment. We had been looking forward to finding a new lunch/pub and reading the fabulous reviews we really thought we had found it. We'll try again in a couple of weeks and hope that this time we caught them on a bad day.

Finally a village pub with atmosphere and warmth. My wife and I popped in on a spur of the moment travelling back to Bath from an event and discovered this little gem in the heart of beautiful Colerne. We'd heard good things but so often have we been let down when visiting local pubs. This is a village pub being a village pub. No pretence, confit this confit that here. Partners and owners Joe and Charlotte were present on a busy night which at first we thought was a private party. Nope, this was just a normal Saturday night full of locals having a good time. Instantly they made us feel like long last friends. We chatted to Joe (chef) who comes from a culinary background of working around the world on super yachts and combines these well travelled flavours into local reared meats and produce. Just for fun they had a Cuban night so I opted for the Antiguan goat curry which was superb. Charlotte (tall, blonde, need I say more?!) mans the bar greeting guests with a well oiled team of staff who are equally as professional, warm and polite.Well done to you both on bringing back The Great British Pub and showing there is life in them yet. So good that this was the only pub nominated close to Badminton horse trials near Bath to visit. We can't wait to return!

The starters, yes we did! But we shared, lovely, crisp lettuce and pate with toast, hummus with pitta and a charcuterie board, fabulous start, followed by very good roast beef with all the trimmings. This has to be one of the best value and quality roasts in the area. I couldn't finish mine, they don't hold back on roasties. We wanted the jam roll poly, but alas we couldn't fit it in. The menu had a number of salads, or a burger or a sea bass. My wife oredered a mango salad with no tomatoes, it came covered in them, once removed it was the size of a starter. I really fancied a steak or similar, however as I didn't fancy burger or fish had a greek salad. Our friends were equally unimpresed with the meal. When we asked for the dessert menu as we were starving they had run out of everything exceot ice cream. We left and went to the other pub for dessert, which was very good. On another point there was no parking in Colerne, we had to park outside of the village and walk in

After booking a large house for a hen party, we were recommended The Six Bells Inn for food. I messaged initially on Facebook and was really happy with the friendly and helpful response, basically stating that they would be able to accommodate us and our needs for an afternoon tea for 10. I often had to change the booking slightly with numbers/times but this was never a problem and I was really impressed with this. We sent balloons/banners which they put up around our table at no extra cost and they did a really good job. When the bride to be walked in she looked really happy with all the effort. Next up the food, we had little finger sandwiches and scones, with jam and cream. I didn't think I liked scones until I tried these little beauties. They were delicious! The lady that was serving us was absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough to help, such great customer service. The price was very reasonable and the Inn itself is really nice and cosy and in a gorgeous location. It was a brilliant start to our hen weekend and we would definitely recommend it. Honestly the best food I've ever had at a pub but the young lad behind the bar (no older than 16) pretty much ignored me and my wife and I don't know if he knows us because we certainly don't! It just seemed that he didn't want to serve us and hid away when we were ready to buy drinks etc. I hope to return though as the food was spectacular!

After an awfully long time with this pub not being particularly popular it's lovely to have somewhere that is a real part of the community. The food is absolutely delicious and there's always a variety of food to choose from. The staff are friendly, particularly the owners who will always have a chat if they're not too busy and everyone is very accommodating, doing anything they can for you! The pub hosts events quite regularly which are always entertaining and lovely to have something different to listen to or watch when having a drink. I would definitely recommend this pub if you're in the area!

The staff create a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in and the discreet but attentive service makes sure that lasts through your meal. And of course the food is just as good - everything we picked from the medium-size menu was delicious and the portions were just right. P.S. The inn is very dog-friendly so if you're canine-averse probably not for you.

At last we have a village pub that serves good food! We have lived in Colerne for nearly 30 years and have seen Six Bells landlords come and go but none of them were able to serve really good food. We went to The Six Bells for Sunday lunch yesterday after a friend recommended it and we were not disappointed. My husband had beef and I had lamb and both were cooked to perfection. The vegetables were not over cooked although I would have liked more green veg.The desserts all looked delicious and we settled for the brownie and chocolate praline cake. We were made to feel very welcome and the staff are all very cheerful and pleasant. We'll certainly be regular visitors from now on. Maybe Saturday Brunch next time? Thank you for a lovely meal.Paul and Pauline

Very much a traditional pub, but with a refreshing approach to food. A short and varying menu presents a good choice, and not your typical pub fare. But it does include an excellent burger for the traditionalist.Tables are at one end of the open pub area, not a separate restaurant, which works well.

After reading the reviews I booked a table here for 13 people for my hen do meal (28/5/16), I spoke with staff on the phone leading up to the evening and got a good vibe, shame to say we didn't get the experience we should have.We turn up and the table is big enough for 9 (although squashed in like sardines they couldn't move), we are asked if we needed another table! When the food came the 4 steaks ordered came with no mushrooms even though only 1 said no mushrooms..ok they brought out extra mushrooms to sort that issue. The steaks were meant to be rare and one for definite was medium to well so was sent back, the chef called the lady who sent it back up to the kitchen and had a go at her saying he has 20 odd years experience he knows his food....out of order to do that! We were given 2 bottles of prosecco to apologise for everything which was a nice gesture however by this point we didn't feel comfy there. Some of the meals ordered and eaten were delicious and enjoyed.

I visited this place at lunchtime with my wife, two daughters and mother and father in law and the welcome that we had was great. My older daughter lives close by and she recommended the six bells and what a recommendation it was.The food was really, really nice. I had the beef,Yorkshire pudding as well as a good selection of veg which were really tasty. The gravy was the best that I have tasted for a long time. This was followed by a lemon meringue tart with ice cream which was equally very tast. Others had the same as myself and also enjoyed their meal.A good selection of beers, a warm and friendly welcome from Sarah behind the bar helped make this a great visit with good food and beer.If you are in the area I would recommend you call in to this wonderful establishment for good food and drink.

My partner and I dined at the Six Bells on Saturday evening, and absolutely loved it. From the warm welcome to a cheery 'good night' it was a delightful evening, thanks all round! We shared a calamari to start (tender, light batter, beautiful home-made hummus & aoli, rocket), then had the steak, which was perfectly tender and very tasty, great onion rings and chips. Pudding was the hazelnut dessert (new on the menu) which was delicious. We loved the cosy, traditional atmosphere, fresh flowers outside and on the bar, villagers dropping in for a drink, others to eat - a vibrant but also relaxing atmosphere. The service was snappy and friendly and we count ourselves lucky we're locals so we can indulge regularly.

This pub is going places!Rarely do you come across an establishment that ticks all the boxes - the Six Bells does - in spades! We went for Sunday lunch and all four of us were blown away by the food, service, friendliness and the pub itself. In addition, bearing in mind the quality of the food, and the wine on offer, £25 a head is nearly unobtainable within 50 miles of this place.Joe and the team, you can walk with your heads held high!Incidentally, they have theme nights - from my increasingly crap memory, I think Friday is fish night.

A gorgeous country pub with the most hospitable landlord I've had the pleasure of meeting. The roaring wood burner added to the cosy atmosphere and the food was amazing, I especially liked the tapas, and the Ginger Ale Battered Cod was divine. We will definitely be returning again and again to try out everything else on the menu, thank you Jo and Natalie for making our wedding day extra special. Everything was just perfect.

I'm very lucky to have this pub on my doorstep and have visited regularly since it was taken over by the new owners last year. It's changed from a quietly frequented drinkers pub to an oh-my-goodness-how-good-is-this-food pub! Joe and his team have created a varied menu catering for all tastes. The staff happily recommend choices for you if you're stuck, which led my husband and I to a Japanese Teriyaki prawn dish and sesame seared tuna for our mains. Oh we had baked camembert to start which was beautiful too and some really good wine and cider. If you live locally and haven't visited yet, you're missing a trick. Advise to book ahead as food tables are at a premium, words getting round just how good The Six Bells actually is!

Following a winter hibernation The Six Bells Inn's "Fresh Fish Fridays" are back!We had just gone for a quick couple of drinks before dinner at home. Joe came out and tempted us with a taste of some tuna sashimi - we were hooked (excuse the pun!).Had to go home, walk the dog and turn the oven off before returning to The Six Bells. We ordered a set of starters to have as a tapas style meal. Japanese Tuna Sashimi, Japanese Prawn Skewers and Pan Fried Scallops with pea puree and bacon. All fabulous. Sashimi was best I've had since being on Martha's Vineyard last September. Prawns were soft and juicy with a savoury coating. Scallops perfectly cooked - slight brown crisp on outside, but tender and juicy on inside. So wonderful to have someone who can cook fish properly! And the icing on the cake... all this wonderful seafood washed down with a bottle of delicious Albarino from Spain. With this quality of food, wine and cooking - who needs a Michelin Star???Long may 'Fresh Fish Fridays' continue!

On my way back from a business trip I found myself driving through Colerne and decided to stop for lunch at the Six Bells Inn. I've had many a "pub lunch" in my time but have to say that the food, service and atmosphere combined must rate The Six Bells as one of the best I have visted. I look forward to my next visit hopefully sooner rather than later.

I took my family for a meal for an early meal. We were warmly welcomed By the staff and with the fire burning the place had a warm friendly atmosphere. We had a couple of glasses of Merlot to get started and I must say it was a lovely drop!We had a fantastic tapas dish to start with which consisted of sliced meats olives peppers and salad which was wonderfully tasty and appealing to the eye. Then we shared some very tasty fish cakes . For main course I'm afraid we all plumped for a traditional Ham egg and fries which was perfect and somehow with a little drizzle of dressing and some fancy watercress it was transformed to a much grander feast.Congratulations to the people who on a shoe string budget have created a warm and friendly pub that has service with a smile, fantastic food and a great atmosphere. What more could you want!
