The Silvery Tay in Dundee City

Was looking forward to a Fish Supper, as food is cooked to order one would think it would be nice crisp and tasty. Food was very bland, tastless and dry in batter, not impressed would not hurry back.

Great traditional chippy. My Haddock was delicious, in light crispy batter. Chicken well cooked and great service from the second I walked in the door.

Expensive near £10 for a fish supper. Fish was thin, dry and grey. They good things come to those that wait. Not at the Silvery Tay Dundee. Waited for 20 mins in an empty shop while they prepared delivery orders - no communication. Bad experience. I will not be back.

Popped in here for fish suppers when visiting my parents. Same owners as Murrays in Broughty Ferry so was keen to try. Nice crispy fish, really enjoyed the chips 👍

Not across that end of town often however with the excellent freshly cooked fish would friendly staff expect a regular detour will be required in future

yet again fantastic fish suppers...others might be cheaper but at least you know when you get food from the silvery tay it's hot,tasty and delivery is prompt well worth the extra pennies..

1 of the best chippers if not THE BEST chipper in Dundee always cooked from fresh , staff are very nice too , nice clean establishment that serve up a smashing Icelandic haddock in bread crumbs mmmmm highly recommended!!!!

Delicious. Massive fish and chips supper for £9. Went after work and got the food within 10 minutes. Would recommend.

My order was the Icelandic Haddock regular chips and a side of curry sauce The fish was perfect fresh very fleshy nice taste The chips were fresh fried very nice and no complaint worked very well with the curry sauce which tasted very nice Would recommend giving this establishment a try

Best in Dundee, if not Scotland. No trip home is complete without a visit (for their spicy haggis supper - beautiful!)

My order was mistakenly given to someone else. The staff could not have been more apologetic. The food was lovely and as a gesture I was offered onion rings. Excellent customer service and very hard working staff. Highly recommended.

We got our food done and but we asked for 2 cans of juice but we only got 1

Where do I start, ok I have to say by the end of our meal we all cried never ever have we had till now the real traditional fish and chips like good old Boris and his deception we have only ever had what we thought was fish and chips we even put flags out and then watched the Titanic film. To Gabby or known to us as the Empress of the Sea and Field thank you for the lovely note and the amazing food. Victor, The Bridge and many others if you want to know what fish and chips taste like I would suggest getting a takeaway from them.

Extremely disappointed with fish tonight. Batter burnt, fish dried and burnt under batter.. not edible...could not even give to dog. Usually lovely too.

Top quality fish and chips. Make no mistake this place is the real deal. Not just plain old fish and chips. Their haddock are large enough to be used as weapons and have a taste that is second to none. Truly they are the standard that all other chip shops should be measured against

I got a couple of buttered rolls and noticed the person spreading the butter had no gloves on, I'm sorry but even without covid going around I'd still expect someone touching my food to be wearing gloves, not very hygienic

If you are wanting the best quality fish, battered perfectly and to order with amazing chips to accompany, then the Silvery Tay in Dundee is the plaice (pardon the pun). Visited many a time, it can be busy, due to the poularity and quality of food no doult but definately worth the wait. Pricing is on par in my opinion, I think its about £6-7 for a haddock supper, the business is always clean and staff always cheery and professional. Food is always hot and never skimp of quantity. My mouths watering just writing this review :-)_

This used to be a great chipper and would drive from otherside of dundee for a treat! But now it's just not as good as, so have to find a new one 😕

Been going here for over 30 years n never had a complaint but on my 1st time getting a delivery the food wasn't very warm so no more deliveries

Never had a better fish and chips. Recommend the shop getting actual Edinburgh chippy sauce though not just HP brown sauce.

Not as good as it used to be but still as expensive. Waited quite a long time to get my order and get out of the shop. The fish was freshly cooked. Fritters weren't freshly cooked and were cold by the time I got the meal home (only 5 minutes away). I hadn't been to the Silvery Tay for some time, and only visited on this occasion due to its past reputation. I got the impression that with all the delivery meals they're pumping out together with trying to service the long queue that it's all a bit too much for the shop to handle efficiently. Perhaps this was just a bad day for them. Will give it another try sometime soon.

Phoned to request a home delivery, was then left waiting for a couple of minutes then abruptly told "We can't do this just now", then hung up on me. Very poor customer service.

Food was cold on delivery batterd pizza was not that great.

other places may deliver faster, other places may charge you less, other places may stay open longer, but no where else can match the taste. immaculate

Hadn't been here in a very long time, thought we would treat ourselves. Fish was awful, rubbery and tasteless. Chips undercooked and soggy. Wont be back.

Google says your open. Your website says your open. Facebook says your open but your not open. Drove all the way to the Silvery Tay only to discover the shutters down and you have stuck a sign up as if it's 1951 and not 2021.

My parents couldn't get through on the phone so asked me to order online. Delivery time was 30 to 90 minutes, food arrived 2 hours later. They live only a short drive from the shop but are elderly and can't manage the uphill walk. Disappointing service.

In the two and a half hours it took to deliver this meal 5 miles, you could have driven from Dundee to Hadrian’s Wall. Poor service (no update about the wait and didn’t pass on our directions to the delivery driver resulting in 15 mins of more confusion) and needless to say fish was cold on arrival. For prospective customers I recommend the TailEnd

Used to be one of the best chip shops in Dundee however quality of food and service have gone down significantly since takeover from Bend.. .on a few occasions now barely able to eat the food and it's not cheap..Will not be back there are much better chip shops in dundee now

Solo obtendría una comida frita del Silvery Ta y & Murrays en el Ferry, no podía creerlo cuando Murrays se hizo cargo del Silvery Tay, pero no me decepcionó, es la misma comida de alta calidad que siempre ha tenido. el pescado y las patatas fritas son increíbles, nunca demasiado grasosos, siempre frescos y cocinados a pedido, no me importa esperar comida recién hecha en lugar de comida seca o recalentada, es la mejor tienda de patatas fritas con diferencia en ese lado de Dundee, solo brillante.

As always, great fish & chips, but service is rather slow. Only 3 customers in shop, which is fine, but they could take verbal orders from the outside queue to speed things up.

Gone downhill since takeover. Have been a few times. Fritters as think as a whole potato, chips not cut and cooked right, scampi not good. Smoked sausage was ok but won’t be hurrying back. Such a shame, same name, poor quality.

Excellent 'Fish Supper Tea', delivered to our house on time. Food was fantastic, crispy haddock in batter with tasty chips. Not greasy. Our grandkids had a kids supper each, they thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good work, we'll definitely be back.

He estado aquí varias veces desde que los nuevos propietarios se hicieron cargo, y nunca me ha decepcionado. Yo suelo ir por el pollo, pero anoche conseguí el pescado y fue increíble. Cocido fresco. Y el personal siempre es amable y charla mientras espera su comida. Definitivamente lo recomiendo.

first visit since change of ownership, what has happened , small portion of regular fish with way to many chips to compensate and not the cheapest in town .disappointed.

Disappointing first visit. The chips were lily-white and only just barely cooked - they were awful. The battered fish was dry and ordinary at best. The breaded fish was very dark (not quite burned, but close), and insanely dry. I picked off the breading and had more than double the amount of dark bread vs super dried out fish. Poor hubby spent ages queuing for THAT?? The amount of people waiting led us to believe we were in for a treat. One month later, we gave this another go: It was a weekday at 4pm and the queue was much shorter. The fish was a little bit better this time, but the chips were still white, not cooked properly, and ended up in the bin again. That's it now. Not going back.

We just opted for a ‘chippy tea’ and we are all in agreement that this is the best chip shop at this side of town. I’m surprised at some of the other recent reviews. We’ve never had a reason to complain, the food is always fresh, not greasy, and importantly the chips are excellent! It was very pleasant service and everyone loved it. Definitely a family favourite for us!

The Silvery Tay has recently changed ownership and the quality of food has gone down hill. Fish was not fresh, over cooked and the chips were cold.

We used to love going to the Silvery Tay every time we were in Dundee but sadly we won’t be returning. It appears to have declined rapidly in all standards. This is so unfortunate.When the food items were being packed in the boxes the member of staff picked up the cooked fish with her hands - not using the tongs she had. When I said I wouldn’t be having that piece of fish she shouted that her hands were clean???? I had watched her pull her trousers/jeans up & scratch her skin!! I’m sure this person is totally oblivious to hand hygiene & food hygiene standards. She continued to shout at me. I advised her I wouldn’t be having the fish - a lady intervened & advised for another piece of fish to be given & told the member of staff that she shouldn’t of used her hands but no apology. Once we were home there were parts of the order missing on contacting the store there was no apology/ response. The food was swimming in grease and not the same delicious taste of before. We are so very saddened about the Silvery Tay as it was our family treat but we will go elsewhere where they are aware of good hygiene hand hygiene & customer care.

I have gone to the Silvery Tay for years the food is always fresh as it’s cook to order and the staff are lovely, best chippy in Dundee definitely. There are always long queues and quite long waiting times for deliveries on weekends but that just shows how good it is, always worth the wait !!

So much for fresh fish, l've had fish suppers there for years it was the best place to go. But now l got a fish supper last night. The fish smelt strong, it was tough instead of falling apart the batter was chewy and tough as well amd not for the first in the last couple of weeks. Standard well below par. Not going back, so disappointed.

I have been a customer at the Silvery Tay in Charleston Drive, Dundee since it opened and have never had an experience like the one tonight.I waited for twenty minutes for my order and the fish looked lovely when it came out of the fryer. When it came to putting the fish supper together, the girl took an old piece of fish which had been sitting in another hot cabinet since my arrival.I asked for my fish in place of the old one I was being palmed off with and the Supervisor, Sean came over and told me that the old fish had to be served first.Rather a contradiction of the slogan on the website, "Cooked to Order!"My request for the fresh fish was ignored with a shrug of the shoulders from Sean, so I went elsewhere for my fish supper.Obviously customer satisfaction is not on the menu here any longer.Al Divers, Dundee
