Always pop in when in the area still the same great quality. Yesterday. 27th Feb 2019 had a great meal to start a large bowl of mulligatawny soup the best I have had in any restaurant Anywhere. This place has not change why mess with near perfection. Update Sunday 10th February 2025: The menu font is so small if it was any smaller it would be in Braille. It must be sponsored by specsavers

I used to love the food here. Hoped we wouldn’t notice a difference with the change in ownership but that’s two separate meals we’ve had here now in last couple months that have not been great. Chicken wings were inedible (rock solid), and the change of buns to brioche has changed the taste of the meals - and not in a good way - it’s removed a lot of my usual menu choices. Inconsistent food quality was never a problem I’ve experienced here. I would hate to stop coming, I love supporting local businesses/eateries. But I’m starting to opt to eat elsewhere, which is a shame since I’ve been a regular lunchtime visitor for years. I’ll keep trying though, maybe it’s just new ownership teething problems (and maybe they’ll get rid of the brioche and revert to what had always worked), but there’s only so many chances before you go elsewhere.

Came in for a bar lunch and, having used this bar for years for both food and drinks, was extremely disappointed in both the service and the food. The bar was quiet and there was 2 serving. A young girl and a man. My husband stood at the bar waiting to be served and being completely ignored. The young girl was serving another customer whilst the man chatted (took centre stage) with 3 customers sitting at the bar. Frankly, we were on the verge of walking out the service was so bad. We ordered food, again we've eaten here hundreds of times as the food is always so good. Today I was served cips that were barely warm, meaning by the time I was half way through my meal they were too cold to enjoy and I left them. Hubby's Chilli Dog was the same, bits were warm and bits cold. Sad to say we don't be back.

This was the most delightful bar in Dundee. I travel every other year, and I wish I visited sooner. The staff is amazing, the food is great and the people who come in are kind. 10 out of 10.

Perfect local pub, multiple beers and ciders on tap, well looked after cellar leading to a great pint. Pricey but worth it for the original Victorian surroundings. Often very busy.

Aggressive, rude bar staff close to assaulting young man for having a wee power nap. Shouting at a lovely group of young chaps. Heaps of folks left as a result of this aggressive behaviour from staff. Lovely selection of beers.

A genuine pub where the customer is paramount and your not engulfed in bloody Sky sports. Wide selection of beers served in a bar with an historical layout where you can converse without being drowned out by loud music First rate pub

It's quite a unique pub in Dundee I think. I'm willing to bet it hasn't changed much in the last 50 years, very traditional. Great pub grub, I mean, where else are you going to get a pint of chips? Well worth a visit, give our a go. Oh, and it's walking distance from the new, world class, V&A.

Popped into The Phoenix at lunchtime before going to the DCA to watch a film. A nice, traditional pub, friendly, professional staff, very welcoming. Background music was a good mix of music and not too loud, just right. Bar menu was quite comprehensive, good selection to please everyone. I had a filled roll with a side of chips and a glass of red. Nae issues, well made, well presented and a good price. No fuss, no frills, perfect. Will definitely go back and recommend, local pals also recommended The Phoenix as a decent place for pub grub and a drink. 10/10👍

Han pasado años desde que visité aquí, el personal acogedor muy amable. El lugar no ha cambiado desde la última vez que estuve allí. Pero tristemente ahora necesita un poco de TLC, decoración, muebles, señoras de asiento. etc. El propietario ahora parece haber vendido el pub, así que quizás no esté dispuesto a actualizar antes de vender. Todavía un gran pub tho, gran ambiente y comida sabrosa, disfrutamos de scampi y patatas fritas, hongos de ajo y un pudín, la comida era deliciosa y un montón de ella. Esperemos que los nuevos dueños logren retener el ambiente y aún lo tengan como un gran bar Dundee cálido y amigable. : )

Been years since i visited here, luvly friendly welcoming staff. Place hasn't changed since the last time I was there. But sadly now needing a bit of TLC, decor, furnishings, seating ladies. etc. Owner has now seemingly sold the pub so perhaps not willing to update before selling. Still a great pub tho, great atmosphere and tasty food, we njoyed scampi and chips, garlic mushrooms and a pudding, food was delicious and plenty of it. Hopefully the new owners will manage to retain the atmosphere and still have it as a great warm friendly Dundee bar. :)

I love this bar. Old school, with booths to nestle in and tables to chat. Sports on and a lovely, homely, arty decor. It attracts all ages and does good food. The music is good and the staff are friendly. Exactly the kind of place to have as a Local.

Go here whenever I'm in Dundee. The best chilli burger ever. Chilli is spicey and extremely tasty. Perfectly matched with their "Ganga Fries"

This is a go to pub for me when in Dundee on a day out, really quaint, old fashioned pub with a decent selection drink wise. Nice atmosphere and staff are usually pleasant. One of these days I will try to have a meal here.

First visit to this pub just a short walk from the railway station. Quite busy on arrival and a very pleasant cheery Barmaid to greet us . A fairly extensive menu with some specials on a board to tantalise our tatsebuds A nice Mushroom & Leek and garlic soup. Excellent. An array of chips were on offer ...to accompany a lovely Chicken Maryland. Finished off with a lovely Sticky Toffee pudding Very competitively priced ... Will definitely return.

I have been a patron of the pub for over 30 years and the food has always been fantastic especially the burgers, but today one of our party ordered a pizza and OMG the dough and crust were so tough and hard they couldnt eat it, the fillings fell off the pizza and the whole thing was not cut to be able to pick up the slices, very disappointed with the pizza.

Excellent pub, everything is very reasonably priced food is fantastic and the bar staff are very friendly.

A great man once said "decent boozer". He couldn't be anymore correct. Great ales and a wide selection of lager. Reasonably priced. Toilets are great for hiding in (if you're blind) and if you find yourself in here on a Friday, you have the pleasure of watching at least one bloke pass out on account of their liking of decent ales.

Spent a lovely few hours here surrounded by friendly locals, lots of drinks options, and the food was absolutely cracking. I had the plant based burger and a huge portion of chips to go with - really tasty and great value for money!

It's a nice pub, well decorated, it wasn't too loud, you could hear your friends even though there was music.

Cracking old school pub, never had food but, the menu looks good. Was in again yesterday, different bar staff than on previous visits, old dear behind the bar seemed to be having a bad day.

Very strange place. Proper old fashioned boozer which normally I love but this place just did not hit the spot. No option to taste an ale before buying and seemed set in the dark ages. Dark and dingy and could do with a refresh especially the toilets. All that I could forgive if our custom was appreciated. Iconic place apparently but missed the mark for us.

Proper place to truly go back in time. It is such a friendly environment to sup a pint. Nothing beats sitting at the actual bar itself next to one of your pals and just talking for the rest of the night. In addition the chicken wings and food in general is stupendous.

Classic, old school Scottish pub. Great atmosphere, decor what you'd expect in a traditional boozer and prices reasonable. Burger buns way too dry, but the burgers still tasty. Could happily spend another afternoon there...🍻

What a pub. Beer selection was great and fairly priced and the service was flawless, although the real highlight was the food. Possibly the best pub food I've ever had plus the atmosphere was great.

If only all pubs were run like this. Table was cleaned before we sat down and beers were served in the correct branded glasses. Understandably popular and great ales. Didn’t eat there but food looked good.

I had some time to kill so I dropped into the Phoenix for a pint. About a half hour later, I finished my drink and started to put my jacket and hat on. The bartender and his companion were at the far end of the bar at that time. They saw me getting ready to leave and by the time I got my jacket on, they both scurried down to my end of the bar and ganged up on me. They aggressively started to mock me in front of a room full of patrons for only having one pint. I have never been treated this way in a UK pub before by the management. It was shocking and disgusting. They were very aggressive towards me. I will never go back.

The Pheonix Bar is a Dundee institution. It has a prominent place in the bar industry within the city. The original decor helps to add to the ambience along with the eclectic mix of clientele. Staff within the premises are always friendly and helpful. The food is proper pub grub and the curly fries are a must have. Dogs are also allowed 🐕

This pub has a great selection of real ales and excellent food at good prices - the ganga curly fries were especially good (and as spicy as advertised!). The service was quick and efficient despite the fact that the pub was full up almost from opening time.There was a bit of a shortage of ciders on tap so if that's your tipple you'd have to go with a bottle.Interesting decor and appeared to be nice and clean too. Would definitely come back here if in Dundee again.

Visited this pub 18 years after my last visit and pleased to see it has kept all its charm. Will defo make a point of going again on my next trip.
