The Silver Cross in City of London, Westminster

A lovely pub in the heart of London. Really good atmosphere and really friendly bar staff. The food was good and it wasn't too expensive, considering it's location. Lots of different seating areas, with a downstairs bar too. I look forward to revisiting this pub on a regular basis... 😁💥🏆

Horrible food cold tasteless overpric3d long wait Burger burnt ( probably reheated few times ) chips different sizes mixed ( probably they run out of chunky chips and added smaller ones to fill the plate Waiter asked if everything was OK when I replied back not really she mumbled something like I ll tell the manager and disappeared ! Stay away from this place They trade on the very central location This is a proper touristic trap

I ordered a burger. The service was not great and it was the worst burger I have ever had. It was completely dry, tasteless, the 2 miserable onion rings were stiff, how did it leave your kitchen? I was the first to order food at my table and I can safely say I was the last.

We can only speak to our experience - quite likely the worst fish & chips we've ever had - fish was massively overcooked - burned to a crisp... Fries were ok but then hard to wreck that. Not sure if this is a once off or new chef.. not good... Hopefully they see and correct this.

Only had a spicy mojito here which tasted amazing but was missing the mint and lemon “accessories” that were advertised. Very pleasant interior and atmosphere, though, nice escape from all the crowds, it was busy but not too much.

Always our favourite rest place for food and drink.. You will always find a seat, no matter how busy it gets. Wide variety of food and drinks.. Service is never what time they tell you.. But you can't beat the value and price.. Always clean, the staff are polite and helpful..

We discovered it thanks to a fantastic recommendation from our city tour bus driver, and it more than lived up to the praise. From the moment we arrived, we noticed how welcoming and accommodating the staff were, especially to guests with disabilities—a thoughtful touch that didn’t go unnoticed. While we only ordered beer (which was very reasonably priced), we couldn’t help but overhear diners around us raving about the food—clearly, a must-try for next time! One of the highlights was immersing ourselves in the pub’s rich history, which added a unique charm to the experience. Whether you’re a visitor exploring London or a local looking for a gem you haven’t yet discovered, this place is an absolute must. Highly recommended!

After a walk around Trafalger Square and Whitehall called in to the Siver Cross for lunch , RoastBeef was excellent and the staff super friendly.

Was in london for the day and after walking my legs off this was a perfect destination. Fairly priced for inner london. Would recommend the steak and ale pie

Looked up online for a pub with football coverage in heart of london and chose this one and loved it but price for a peroni £7.50 daylight robbery

Spacious, fairly open and large bar, ideal for bigger groups. Friendly staff and a great place for a chat. I sadly can't speak for the food as I did not sample it.

Came here on a Sunday....it was crowded but was able to get a table pretty quickly. Sticky toffee pudding was divine!

Very nice service, atmospheric place with good food.

The restaurant is quite large, has a nice atmosphere, is efficient with self-ordering and prepayment in the hall, has a wide variety of menus and is cost-effective, and is especially good because it has small plates so you can eat a variety of dishes. You can also use free water on your own. The father and daughter went and ate fish and chips and three dishes (chicken, potatoes) from the small plates, and drank Fruity IPA beer. Everything was delicious, and I especially liked the IPA beer, which has a fruity flavor to reduce bitterness. £50.75

The servers and service was really nice. Might not be the most authentic pub/ bar but the food is decent and the beer was nice, cold and local.

Today I went there ordered food and multiple drinks, the staff was attentive friendly and communicated well in particular the staff member with the bunny ears. Dealt with all my requests with no issues or problems including when I messed up my order.

The worst staff in the world. The lady at the bar was so rude. the drinks ordered wrong twice. She was taking orders and speaking with her friend or college, who was drinking at the bar. She is working at the tourist place and she was blaming my accent that she didn't understand what I would like - cocktail Margarita she gave me beer Moretti. I told her that the order I'd wrong, she asked me to pay again. When I told her, she didn't listen to the customer because she was chatting with the guy. She did cocktails for me, but again, it was wrong cocktails. After all this spending time at the bar, my food was cold. My day was ruined. I was with my family travelling around London at nice weather, lovely places. but this lady event didn't say SORRY. thank you. I never ever come back to this place.

Recommended place for fish and chips, indeed in addition to the quantity, the quality was there. Consistent service and prices. I recommend.

The order I made at the desk was given written. Because I got no reciept, I couldn't check the order. So, one meal was forgotten. I placed new order which gave us a free Coke. Food was ok eventually. When my son went to ask toothpicks, they said that there is store open nearby. OK food, but lowest service in London. Very sad place.

Fuimos a comer antes de visitar la National Gallery.Ibamos con un poco de prisa, pues como turistas poco experimentados queríamos verlo todo. Tardaron un poco en servirnos pero he de reconocer que mi Guiness y mi Flat Steak estaban ricos. Lo primero mérito de Guiness.La carne mérito del personal que lo sirvió en su punto. Popped into the Silver Cross after a nice long walk along the south bank with our pooch Obi. We found the pub via the Guiness website as we were looking for somewhere that does Guiness 0.0. Very friendly staff fussed over our little fella, and were at hand with doggy treats. Reasonably priced drinks for a city centre pub. Fairly big inside and nice long bar so didnt feel cramped ordering a drink. Only downside was that the table we sat at didnt have empty glasses and dishes taken away during the hour and a half we were there.

A very central and decent historic London pub. I can't rate the food, as I didn't eat there - but it looked nice. Pints were over 6 pounds but I guess that's not that expensive for near Trafalgar Sq. Probably why I usually stick to the Wetherspoons. The bar staff were all really nice. Waiting staff were really, truly, running around. I hope they all get paid well.

Nice, spacious tent. It takes some getting used to having to order food and drinks at the bar, but it is convenient. Nice menu with dishes to share. Very tasty!!

The pub was very relaxed and had a nice ambience. We found a place for Sunday evening without any problems. There was a special menu for Sundays. The food and drinks were very tasty.

We enjoyed a pre theatre lunch here and were happy with the food and the service.

Seriously I’m shocked about the high reviews here. Ok, it’s fine for beer and the beer was good. The waiter was nice enough but the kitchen was extremely slow. That’s the only reason I’m giving it two stars because the food was literally the nastiest food I have ever had. We got the shared platter and out of five dishes no one wanted to have more than a bite or two of each. And we were starving. Everything was either greasy or extremely bitter. I’m guessing the oil is rarely changed. It took almost an hour to get our food. Please avoid unless you are there for beers…then it is perfectly fine.

Beware as this is a tourist trap with lots of fried food offerings. Terrible quality. Waited an hour and food was simply awful. We ordered small plates. Beers were good. Avoid and get off the beaten track for quality food if that is what you're seeking.

Came here twice on a Saturday. Happy enough with the food and drinks. Large pub/ restaurant. Good atmosphere there. Ordered on the Greene king app also.

Beef sunday roast was dry and poor quality. Low value for money.

Refused entry at the door, reason; "you look too intoxicated" Tonight after a long day of work doing 15 hours of a 12 hour shift, I happened to be passing by. Walking past I decided to go back and go in for dinner. I decided to look at the menu even though I pretty much always get either the fish and chips or the breaded scampi when here. I then opened the door and was told instantly by the bouncer "sorry you can't come in you're too intoxicated". I was surprised by this, given the only thing he saw of me at most when I was standing outside were my Chino trousers while I was looking at the menu outside. I asked how, and said what my job was and that drinking on shift was an instant suspension, and that I didn't have time to drink considering I'd left work no more than 20 minutes prior. To which the bouncer told me that didn't matter. Tired, hungry and not looking for an argument after a long day, and given that the bouncer was calm and not confrontational which is rare, having worked with them in hospitality and having dealt with them numerous times in my current job, I decided to just let it be. Having been to this pub several times in the past, with friends, colleagues and/or family visiting from home, and also having recommended it to said friends and colleagues. I regard this place highly because of it's decent quality food, at a pretty decent price given its location smack bang in the middle of central London I hate to let one single person ruin such a great place, but sadly after tonight, I'll strongly reconsider going in the next time I'm nearby

Sam looked after us, no complaints, had a lovely lunch.

The food was mostly great (we did 5 small plates to share, salads, sweet potato fries and onion rings). There was a family with screaming kids that were out of control and driving everyone crazy, but our waitress ELLA was THE BEST! She has a great sense of humor and made the experience wonderful! Overall great service. Definitely recommend the crispy chicken, the hummus, and the fish. Side salads have wonderful peppery arugula and watermelon. Sweet potato fries were delicious. Pass on the onion rings!

Super cute atmosphere, the food is good, and the staff is absolutely lovely. I didn't like my steak so they changed it for me so easy, and they even apologized several times. Try the pie and mac and cheese was delicious.

The food was delicious, but the best thing about the place was the service, the girls were super friendly, they helped me decide the best option for me taking into account my intolerances and allergies.

I quite liked the Fisch and Chips although they have other specialties on the menu depending on the season.

Great place to come if you’ve got a crowd and/or little kids. Excellent service - thank you, Sam! And yummy food… especially the steak & ale pie. Good food, good beer, good wine… makes for a great lunch before you’re back to exploring more of London.

They really deserve ZERO stars. Ordered a bacon burger with onion rings, french fries and a lemonade. After 20ish minutes I got the burger and it was cold, the meat hard and dry (including the bacon) & all the salt in the french fries concentrated in the same spot (so some potatoes very salty and others had no salt at all), they presented a plate with (literally!) 2 onion rings: a regular one and a tiny one inside the first one. Being hungry I tried to eat it but left most of it in the plate..worst burger I ever had in my life, I suppose they take advantage of the footfall as they know they will always have unaware customers. If you would like to enjoy your meal, go elsewhere...

Very annoying place - this restaurant restricts seats according to whether we order drinks with our meals even though it is empty at 2:00p. The male bar person who takes our order seems uninterested in our patronage and not helpful when taking our orders - big attitude problem for someone who works in the service industry. I was told they have a single clean table in their meal section. So, I should take it or leave it. Due to this restriction, I decide against ordering drinks since we are placed in the meal only table section. Fortunately, the servers are great and courteous. I enjoy my steak & ale pie. The fish included with our fish & chip is meaty and done well. They are generous with the gravy for our mashed potato.

Food was ok! But the service was so slow that we literally saw 2 tables arrived between 20 and 30 min after us and they left before us. It took them around 45 min to give us the food and they tried to charged us for two coffees that never arrived. Not recommended at all!

Nice pub at a nice location. The food and the house beer need some improvement though. I ordered nachos but it wasn’t close to being a proper nachos plate. There was no guacamole, instead it was big chunks of avocado. Salsa tasted wrong. Cheese wasn’t enough. The spicy flavour was from chips itself not the pepper - there was no pepper. Smashed potatoes could be better with a different presentation. Fries were ok. BLT was ok, nothing special though. That applies to the house beer as well. The atmosphere is good. It makes you thirsty :) The staff is friendly but for some reason some seemed in between rush and panic. I have also seen an apparently senior server roasting another server quietly but in the middle of the tables. This was not nice. They show PL games and F1 races which is great. Thanks!

A typical English pub. We ordered a hamburger that was very delicious, a Cod sandwich that was actually very lacking in content. Price quality is good and is in line with what you pay for it taking into account that it is LONDON.
