A little expensive, but all good food and coffee.

Food and service were excellent. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection.

I was in for breakfast on Saturday. They do not seem to be interested in the breakfast trade. I felt like I caught them off guard a bit. I was the only one there. Food good but not great. A bit pricey compared to others locally.

Great fun birthday finner - well organised, right tempo.

Couldn't recommend Ship on the Shore enough! The food is exceptional, especially the seafood platters. Have been three times now whilst visiting Edinburgh and each time it's been perfect.

Amazing experience, and the butler was so friendly. I loved the food aswell. We had a hot platter with a fine variety of seafood. I definitely recommend this place. L

Iconic small restaurant in Leith, close tonthe sea, just 20 minutes off the Royal Mile. Fresh local fish and interesting champagnes to pair.

The most disgusting and overpriced experienced in a fish restaurant ever!!! Stay away as far as you can! The food was absolutely disgusting! You get some raw fish served (not mentioned in the menu that it's not cooked), it costs you £ 110 and it doesn't even come with bread on the side. You literally feel like throwing up!! I've never had such a bad experience at a fish restaurant. Stay away!

Absolutely excellent meal. Booking advised as it must be very popular. The food was so well cooked and served by friendly attentive staff who managed to be available but not intrusive. I really enjoyed eating there. Had a good range of wine on offer, we only had wine and whisky so can't comment on other drinks. The coffee was also lovely. Would recommend every time, well worth a visit to Leith.

Great spot .... especially outside in the sun

An indulgent treat for us and almost 24hrs later I'm drooling at the memory of the Monkfish Tail Thai Curry with Pak choi and broccoli. My son had good old fish and chips and his friend settled for the pan fried salmon. I have absolutely zero negatives to say about our food, the service or the atmosphere. However a brighter light in the ladies would be helpful for touching up makeup 😁

We requested alcohol-free food and they made sure all our food did not contain alcohol.

Very good fish and seafood cuisine. Perfect service that you rarely see. Black outfit, lintel, ☺, as in the Belles brasseries in France. Nice decor, woodwork.

We had a fabulous meal, the Hot Seafood Platter, accompanied by an excellent bottle of red wine. The service was superb.

Second time here and still as lovely as ever. Food was really tasty: oysters were something special and washed down with a delightful Telmont Brut. Surf & turf to follow, steak was lively and charred on the outside as well as juicy and pink on the middle. Lobster was tasty, but a touched over cooked. The thermodore sauce was not nice. Very gloopy and glad it was weaved on the side. Proper old school chips, so no argument there. Finished off with a cheeseboard. Lovely blue cheese dipped in honey was very good. Although busy and assume from all the reviews it always is. Service was a touch slow and could see was under staffed. But yet again will no doubt be back as best oysters,,,

Good Seafood! I think it is the best one in Edinburgh! Paella and cold platter are my favorite ones! The waitresses and waiters are so helpful! The manager is so knowledgeable for wine recommendation! If you are in Edinburgh and want to have some seafood, this is the place to go for!

I had the best Dover Sole I’ve ever had at this restaraunt. The service was excellent and prices reasonable. High recommended a visit you won’t be disappointed

We turned up on 31st Dec around mid afternoon without a booking for a quick lite lunch. The restaurant was busy but they found a table for my son & I. My son ordered their steak sandwich which was fantastic, meat was perfect medium rare.

Excellent et magnifique plateau de fruits de mer, dessert également très bon... Bien que le prix soit assez élevé, les proportions étaient généreuses. L'ambiance et la décoration du restaurant étaient superbes. La terrasse était aussi très jolie à côté du canal. Trois grosses déceptions : pas de lingette humide au citron pour se nettoyer les mains après avoir mangé les fruits de mer et le service n'était pas des plus agréables… Après avoir demandé de récupérer le fumet de poissons pour le boire, ils n'ont même pas pris le temps de me le réchauffer!! Pas très professionnel... Conclusion : un bon restaurant de fruits de mer avec une bonne ambiance, mais qui devrait revoir ses manières de services.

Excellent food and a really nice atmosphere coupled with very good service. The only negative is an automatic 10% service charge added to the bill as I prefer to decide for myself.

While in the area waiting for a bus I called in for a quick drink. Prompt and friendly service. Nice atmosphere bright and cheery background music.I would return here again and would like to sample some of the food dishes served here :)

Great night with my lovely partner, really enjoyed the seafood platter, we ordered the £30 one which was still amazing. The pink grapefruit & Gin sorbet was great too. The staff and manager were nice and friendly to help. Beautiful and lovely place and I love to come back again

Truly delicious seafood . Great lobster with fresh salad and crispy chips. The prawn cocktail was yummy too with plump king prawns, crunchy lettuce mix, with fresh bread and local butter. Simple food but beautifully put together and served with style and charm by the friendly staff. Great wine list too. Really enjoyed our meal.

I visited ship on the shore restaurant in Leith whilst visiting Edinburgh with my wife and friends for a birthday weekend. The restaurant is a lovely seafood establishment offering absolutely amazing fresh local catch and has a lovely stocked bar, food was very tasty, staff were friendly and it was a very enjoyable had by all. I will visit here again and recommend it to friends and family

Place was quiet when I visited, but staff were busy taking bookings for meals at night and generally working away.

We ate here on our recent trip to Leith. It was one of the best meals out we’ve had! We both had the lobster and a crème brûlée that my partner has not stopped going on about since! The restaurant itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated with a lovely atmosphere. The staff are the real crowning glory however; some of the best service I’ve had in a restaurant. Our waiter Dom was absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and he was so attentive, always filling our water without even being asked even despite it being a busy night. We can’t wait to come back.

It was worth it for the quality and quantity, as well as the service. Very friendly and attentive staff, very nice place.

Great seafood restaurant. We had the fruits de mer and the size, the quality and the flavour of all fish and shell fish was just amazing. I would highly recommend anyone who loves seafood to stop and have dinner or lunch here. Tip: order the sticky toffee for desert while you are here!

I have lived in the UK for two years and this is the worst restaurant I have come across. There was a middle-aged blonde waitress with an extremely rude manner. She's obviously racist and purposely unkind to us. I got a call at the restaurant that lasted less than five minutes. As the other customers in the restaurant were talking, I could not hear the voice on the receiver, so I quickly ended the call. Then the waitress came over and accused us of being rude. She said the voice coming from my phone would disturb other customers. This is ridiculous. During lunch, the restaurant was crowded, the noise was loud, and the conversation at the next table was far louder than the sound coming out of my cell phone. She was obviously not telling the truth, just deliberately targeting us. I didn't feel any respect in this restaurant. If your restaurant prohibits the sound of phone calls coming through the microphone, please clearly write this on the sign. Or Asians are not welcome to make normal human conversation in the store, or it can be written on the sign outside.

Hotel Balmoral recommended us this place. We don’t have any issue to tip, but what I find unacceptable is that the waitress write down her own tip with a pen. And the worse part is that she only did it to our table in the whole restaurant. We won’t come back.

Had Australian friends visit Edinburgh and really wanted to take them somewhere with great seafood. Was not disappointed, shared a seafood platter to start and had individual seafood mains. All were fantastic and the service was great throughout.

Spur of the moment decision that turned out excellently. The team was very attentive. My friend had the mussel entree and the scallops and inhaled both portions. I had the pate starter with the Fish Pie Royale, both of which were excellent. A really enjoyable restaurant with good food.

Seafood is good, but I personally prefer Fishers . We had the mussels, oyster pakora, smoked seafood platter and dessert ( love boat ). Nothing to complain about, the service was very good and the whiskeys ( lagavulin, Ardbeg, caol ila) that we tried were reasonably priced.

Bezocht met stel vrienden. Van de paella tot en met de zeevruchten, alles was vers en lekker. Vlotte en vriendelijke bediening. Zeker een aanrader voor vis liefhebbers. Iedereen was zeer tevreden ook degenen die vlees namen (beperkter aanbod).

We had a lovely night, enjoyed the food very much and had a small incident however our waitress came up with a lovely solution. She was great.

Very nice for a seafood meal, very tasty and fresh fish, wine list also good. Service was excellent, very kind and careful staff. The atmosphere inside is cozy and inspires being on a ship, although the outside on the water is nice also. Recommended!

Too expensive for what you get. Starter of mussels was really good. I opted for main course of surf and turf. The turf was a lukewarm steak, the turf was a nearly empty lobster shell. There was a few pieces in the tail, a bit in the claw, the rest was empty. I ordered a garlic butter sauce with it which in other restaurants usually comes in a separate dish, not on this occasion ,it had already been poured over the dish in an attempt to disguise how little there was, mb a couple of teaspoons. It certainly didn’t need a £47 price tag. The dessert was fine but after looking forward to my visit it was a disappointment. Fishers a couple of yards further away is way better. Sorry but I won’t be back.

Nice restaurant. I would just replace the artificial roses on the table with live ones, artificial ones look cheap and nice for this setting. The food was really famous. In the end, the impression was spoiled by the fact that they brought us the bill immediately after finishing our meal. They asked if we wanted dessert, right after the meal we didn't want it yet. Later, we would have wine and coffee and dessert, but it didn't happen anymore. They brought us the bill, which we didn't ask for, so we paid and left.

This would be a five star review except for the fact that I got a nasty case of food poisoning after eating the seafood chowder here one Sunday night. Maybe it was some bad mussels in the chowder? I don't know. Management needs to check the freshness of the ingredients in the chowder. It tasted delicious but it's just not worth the consequences!!!

Tried the Cullen Skink and it was absolutely delicious. One of the best things we ate on this trip. Also had the haggis spring rolls which were crispy and tasty. Sat outside and had a lovely experience.

Once again, we made a reservation for dinner and were very pleased we did. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, a great variety of seafood.

Our advice. Don't book a late table. You are told you are late. Then the impression is we will be cleaning tables all around you because it's time to go home. Wine was not chilled through. The bottle was cold but the wine was room temperature. Some restaurant trick ? My whole sole arrived in a grease sauce. Maybe with burnt butter. It's was almost inedible. Couldn't wait to leave and won't be coming back

Everything tasted high quality. Wife got a ribeye, I got fish and chips, and we shared muscles. The atmosphere was very nostalgic. The Old Fashioned I ordered was good. I would have liked the option for some sauce of some kind with the fish and chips, but the fish was perfectly cooked.

Amazing food! We tried the smokehouse platter and It was delicious as well as the chowder and the fish pie. All fish was so flavourful and clearly of high quality . Yummy cheesecake to end. Service was smooth and polite. Higly reccomended

Catching up with a friend who suggested we try this place and one of us were disappointed. Great seafood. Shared a generous seafood platter to start followed by a further three superb mains. Super staff and atmosphere.

Decided on a spontaneous lunch here and was lucky there were tables to accommodate my partner and I. I just really fancied oysters and champagne so that's what I had whilst my partner has the hot and cold salmon starter and seabass for main. The oysters were the best i have had went so well with my Pol Roger champagne. My partner was very happy with his 2 courses. The service was attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back again soon.

Quite a treat. All that seafood extravaganza was delicious. We had people in our group that never ate lobster or oyster in their life. I hated oyster. When they arrived, I didn't want to eat them. I then tried...WOW! We ended up ordering more. We had a great lunch at The Ship!

The Ship On the Shore is a beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. The fish is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the sea bass ceviche and the fish pie was the absolute best I’ve ever had!

I am am actually not sure what has happened to the place. After taking the Waterway walk from Murrayfield on a Sunday afternoon, we found ourselves outside Ship OS basked in sunshine as we reached the shore. We decided to have a post picnic lunch bottle of wine and snack in the sun. Putting our kids in our view at a table in the shade, short redhair, promptly moved them back leaving them toasting and staring into the sun. We advised that we didn't have sunblock for them and were advised that there was a Sainsbury's up the road. (Admittedly they were taking up another larger table and we advised that they could move them when required) never got used the whole time we were there. Wine arrived, staff proceeded to top it up repeatedly with such pace before the glasses were finished, asking if we were staying for another, when we said no they presented the bill before we had even finished, then within minutes another server asked if we would like the contactless to pay, advised that we again would like to finish our drinks. We then paid and the glasses were cleared before we even pulled a sweater on. Maybe we are small fry only spending nearly 60£ on wine and chips, I'm not sure. I'm enjoying reading the other recent 1* reviews online though, lucky we only had chips ... Blughhh Best you look after the locals, the tourists £'s are only for a short time.
