Last April I posted a scathing review of The Bottom Ship after a particularly bad experience. The owners responded in the best possible way by giving me a gift voucher for a future visit, and today I used that voucher. What a difference! The food was excellent, freshly cooked and delicious, the service was was first class. Having presented the voucher for the meal the staff forgot to charge me for the drinks. Yes, I did remind them! A completely different experience and we'll definitely be going back in the future.

We popped in to the bottom ship after a long walk and received such a warm welcome. Very friendly and helpful staff, so much so, that we were unable to get a taxi to take us back to Dunster, and the owner (Caz) offered to take us back there herself, we were extremely touched by this gesture. We returned a couple of days later having booked a table for Sunday Lunch ( this time we had the car!)… food was superb, we both had the roast pork, followed by sticky toffee pudding and apple and berry crumble ( we were determined to fit pudding in!) Very busy pub, with a wonderful atmosphere, and faultless service by the whole team, despite been so busy. Definitely book to avoid disappointment. Can’t recommend highly enough, look forward to visiting again soon on our next holiday. Thank you all.

Beautiful pub, great team & service, excellent food, beers are OK but wine list is very poor. We had lunch before checking in at the hotel, the bar team were lovely, the lunchtime sandwiches excellent and the general ambience is great. The Ales were a bit dark & strong for my taste, but each to their own, however the wine selection was really poor, not much choice and what was on the list was very unappealing, the rose my wife had was not pleasant, hard to understand when every supermarket and even small Co-op & Spar shops have a decent wine selection. If wine list was improved and a decent pale beer put on, it would make for a 4 or 5 star pub, but right now you're far better going to the Terrace bar at the hotel, where beer & wines were massively better.

Excellent bit of lunch. Great service from the young lads behind the bar. Very good value and a nice spot to sit outside in the sun. The sign outside said food can be up to an hour when busy but it was 15 minutes on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday at lunch time

Lovely pub , plenty of seating both inside and out . Menu's about the right size , enough to choose from and plentiful portions . Porlock Weir is an absolute gem of a place to visit but it has one major flaw , you sit outside the pub to enjoy the views and there's a car park in the way which is such a shame . Must visit location and recommend the Gammon and chips

A traditional pub in a great location. With its low ceilings and traditional decor, this pub gives really ticks the box. The food was great and reasonably priced as well. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. With pictures above the bar, it gives the sense of community. Would love to visit again.

We were abused in here by loutish locals when we popped in for a drink mid-walk with our kids. The boozed-up local blokes sitting at the bar took exception to kids being allowed in their pub. They were swearing loudly and coarsely despite being next to children, and when my son literally tapped his seat with his foot, one of the louts used it as a pretext to turn to us and tell us to “SHUT YOUR KIDS UP!” He proceeded to loudly declaim the presence of children in the pub to his mates, swearing aggressively. The bar staff turned a blind eye, probably out of feckless boredom rather than ill-will. We had to get the kids away from the nasty situation so we got up to leave, not able to finish our drinks. I asked a barmaid to find the owner, who met us outside. She expressed apologies, saying that the guy was wrong and that this was a family pub, and we should come again soon. However, we were still effectively forced out of the pub by aggressive behaviour from a local drinker, and no attempt was made to re-accommodate us or refund us for the drinks we had to leave behind. The owner spoke to the regular, but he went back in to carry on boozing (and probably abusing) and we were left outside to be on our not-so-merry way. It was an extremely nasty experience for our children, let alone us. I know that some kids can be unruly, but our young children were sitting quietly at the table with us. It was evidently our mere presence was objectionable to the arrogant and territorial drunkards. I understand things are tough for local pubs across Britain, and regulars help supply a reliable income stream for them. But I think landlords should have a zero-tolerance approach to abusive behaviour, especially towards families. In my experience, I personally would not expect such a policy at this establishment.

Went there today for lunch for my husbands birthday. Very disappointed! We waited over 30 minutes for our starters, which were luke warm and not great. We told this to the waitress who was very apologetic and said we wouldn't have to pay. Another 30 minutes went by and other people were being served, still no main course. At this point we paid for our drinks and left. The manager and waiting staff did say how sorry they were.

We had the loveliest lunch here! Myself, my husband and 2 children called in for a bowl of chips and ended up ordering fish and chips after seeing how many people were eating! I was already expecting a nice meal but when it came - oh my god, it was absolutely out of this world! The fish was chunky and soft, the beer batter was perfect, chips were lovely and fluffy, I had salad instead of peas and it had the most gorgeous dressing on it and the homemade tarter sauce… oh man, so I’m gonna need that recipe please 😂 Oh and the sticky toffee was out of this world! We’ll see you again in May! ☺️

Another lovely evening meal at the Lorna Doone restaurant yesterday. Always so welcoming and friendly. Our guest had the chicken pie, my husband ate the saltimbocca and I had a perfectly cooked, juicy fish. Mel's suggestion of the Sangiovese - as we all felt like red wine - was perfect. Unusually we even went for pudding. I loved the rhubarb pudding and my husband enjoyed the sticky toffee. We'll be back soon! Thank you!

We have always visited this restaurant over the last 20+ years since my wife’s mother moved to Minehead. This was the first time we felt like we were intruding and unwanted as a customer. We arrived for a 12:00 booking and immediately had the owner remind us that the table had to be free by 13:30. We had a reasonable meal although there’s not much you can get wrong with scampi and chips! But then to have the owner stand next to our table and say to other diners who had just arrived some 10 mins early for their table, ‘I have told them we need the table!’ was both rude and uncalled for. It is such a shame, a place that we had such fond memories of, and thought we were valued customers, but no longer unfortunately.
