I ordered the surf and turf and the steak medium. I had to bend the fork back into place 3 times and remove the steak from my mouth, it was by far the worst steak I’ve ever had. Avoid. This was the cut of the meat. The lass behind the bar had enough on clearing 3 tables let alone me moaning. And the other plates were cleared due to me eating it all.

**Review: The Ship Inn Newington** Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ Located in the heart of Newington, The Ship Inn offers a traditional Sunday lunch experience that is both satisfying and easy on the pocket. For just £11 per person, guests can indulge in a medium-sized carvery that caters to those longing for a hearty, classic meal. The ambiance of the inn strikes a balance between rustic and cozy, giving diners the feel of a genuine British pub. The warm wood interiors paired with classic pub decor create a welcoming environment, ideal for families and groups of friends looking to catch up over a meal. The carvery itself, while satisfactory, does not particularly stand out. The meats, veggies, and accompaniments are all competently prepared. However, given the modest price point, one should manage their expectations accordingly. It's a decent meal for the price, but gourmet seekers might find it somewhat ordinary. Service at The Ship Inn is adequate. The staff is friendly enough, though there can be moments of delay during peak hours, which is expected in most establishments. In conclusion, The Ship Inn Newington offers a good value Sunday lunch, especially for those on a budget. While it may not be the most remarkable carvery you'll ever have, it's a solid choice for a comforting Sunday roast without breaking the bank.

A fabulous little pub. Lovely owners, friendly staff and customers, the food is excellent and cooked to perfection, good sized portions, lots of choices on the menu. We had the carvery on Sunday (which was outstanding) and liked it so much we went back on Monday for lunch! The chicken, garlic and mushroom melt is beautiful, the liver bacon and onions, my husband said was just like his Nan made. There's a big play area for the children to run around in, bar games and nice sized beer garden, dogs are welcome and there's parking too We told other family members how good this pub was and they are going to pay The Ship a visit. We will definitely be back again. So glad we found you! Best pub food and atmosphere for miles!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5/5 P. S. Forgot to add, the halloween game you are doing for the kids is fab and decorations are amazing.. Love them!! 🧙🎃👻🧛‍♂️🧡

Had Sunday lunch here sept 2023 it's the worst lunch I've ever eaten the vegetables are sat in water for god knows how long no taste what so ever the gravy is just brown water no thickness to it what so ever. Can't even call the roast potatoes roasties more like boiled ,flat soggy cold Yorkshire puddings. While stood there waiting for staff to serve flies landing on the food the food was cold none of us ate much at all. Couldn't wait to get out the place If I had gone to the ladies toilets before ordering I would of walked straight back out absolutely disgusting pure filth both toilets were blocked with toilet roll and full of urine needless to say I waited until I got home.the place needs a good clean carpets and decor filthy.NEVER AGAIN

This place is a little gem! At first glance you’d assume it’s just a local village pub. Having struggled to find a place serving food in the area on a Monday we were pleasantly surprised when told they were serving. I had chicken and cheese melt my partner had fajitas. Both meals were excellent and moreover delicious. I can recommend this pub for wholesome hearty food. Also it’s rarity to find anywhere serving real chips. They did and they were delicious. Well done Chef you made our evening thank you

We brought our grandson for tea and a play in the play area which is great and quite rare in Doncaster . It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t have food alongside him in the playground because it meant he would be running back and forth across the car entrance from the busy road . So We decided just to have Nachos and he chose nuggets chips and beans ( no sausages ?) . The nachos were actually awful just a greasy deep fried disc with cheese and a small tub of mayo and one of salsa . No guacamole as per menu ? Really unpleasant. Told the young lady behind the bar they weren’t good but she wasn’t particularly concerned . We realise prices have gone up but what we all had including cake and ice cream was seriously poor value. I would recommend they think again about not serving kids food in the play area , sooner or later someone will come in too quickly at the wrong time and a child could get hit. We couldn’t have relaxed to eat a main course whilst he wanted to play but just to emphasise the nachos were a very poor choice. Sorry hope this actually helps . We will try again, our grandson likes to visit the playground .

I visited this pub with family this afternoon and walked away very disappointed with our experience. We understand the pub had some difficulties with gas problems and they did let us know this whilst we continued to order being told they would let us know when they were up and running again. 30 minutes later nobody had mentioned anything so we had to question whether the problem had been resolved and our order was being cooked. The food then proceeded to take another 45 minutes to come out all lukewarm and extremely overdone. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes my only suggestion would be it had been sat waiting for a long time on their pass. The management did ask us if everything was okay and we mentioned the burger ordered was overdone as it was burnt on the edges, the manager did not take this very well, he did offer to cook a new one however after waiting that long that didn’t seem the best option at all, he then asked the chef if he had overcooked it who continued to say no obviously, then the manager came over to us to inform us of this and actually took the burger patty off the plate and proceeded to man handle the burger and tell us it was perfect and as it should be which he then obviously took away as he had touched the whole thing. I would like to say learn some customer service as if you ask someone if everything is okay and they have constructive feedback you should take this onboard and do something about this instead of just disagree. Clearly she had eaten a couple of bites of the burger and left 80% of the rest on her plate yet we were still charged in full and we’re not apologised to at all. We spent almost £100 in here as a family of 5 and we’re disgusted. This is coming from a worker within the hospitality industry and the service today was below par and would be unacceptable in any other establishment.

My wife and I visited The Ship Inn today with our little boy and baby. It has been a couple of years since we last came and it has changed ownership since then. I wasn't sure what to expect as I remember how the quality of food used to be really good. However, we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and I just love how they've kept some of the meals that used to be on the menu. I used to love the broccoli, potato and cheese bake and was so happy to see it still on the menu. My son had a mini pie and it wasn't until it came out that I remembered how they used to do their pies with suet...the have kept it like this. My son ate the lot and really enjoyed it. He's asked several times already, when we can go back for more pie. Staff were really friendly too. Had a chat with the owner and he seemed really friendly and I do hope it works out for him. He did seem a bit rushed off his feet but I understand that at times like these, it's not always sustainable to have table staff in the event it is a quiet day. Really good experience and really good HOMEMADE pub grub. Will definitely be returning.

Good carvery ( felt a bit strange as it is plated for you by the staff - veg ,potatoes etc.. ) Not a self serve of accompanying items to the meat. But , reasonably priced ,well cooked. Variety of beers, wines& ciders. Plenty of seating ,even down to a small dining area in the rear of the pub. Outside area will be nice in the summer/ warmer months. Camping with elec. Hookup available at rear ( see inside for prices/ availability). Good varied menu ,with reasonable prices in addition to carvery option. Cosy interior , with a nautical theme.

Easy Five Stars From Us. Hubby and I came for our first time and had a great experience and delish food. I was craving Homemade Fish and Chips so I ordered that and it tasted phenomenal - and I don't normally say that about fish and chips so that's saying a lot. I got the small order and it was still a hefty size, enough I couldn't finish sadly. My hubby ordered the Homemade Cauliflower Cheese & Stilton Bake with Creamy Mash and Veg and oh my god that was delicious too! You can tell the food is house made and done right, the prices were good and the menu extensive. The staff were sooo lovely - I'm think it's family run and it may have even been the family serving us. They were layed back, helpful and kind and you could tell that they put love into their business. Right as you walk through the door there is a sign that states the name of the owners/staff welcoming you warmly inside. It was such a nice meal and I wanted to make a point to write a good review in hopes that people will choose this place to eat and have a great experience like we did!

The pub looked lovely all trimmed up for Christmas. The food was poor, burnt nachos with the dips missing and the main course came with hardly cooked garlic bread. We let the proprietors know who returned to us the same burnt nachos but with dips and microwaved anemic looking garlic bread. The campsite was busy and overlooked, communication and concern non existent. The water was turned off after we arrived, leaving us short of water. Yes it was freezing but wouldn't it have been courteous to let us know? We booked to stay but apparently shouldn't have, confusing! Thanks for the stay but we'll give it a miss next time.

Doesn't even deserve one star!!! We were a party of seven 2 children and 5 adults booked in advance for 5.30pm. We arrived on time, gave our order at 5.45pm. At 7.30pm my granddaughter asked Nanny Where's our dinner I'm hungry? My husband enquired why it was taking so long and was told oh, the chef has been doing the meals for the smaller tables but he's doing yours now! After another 15/20 minutes the food started to arrive. My granddaughters burger had bacon welded to the top that was burnt black, my fried egg was burnt black all round the edge only the yolk escaped! The waitress told us the chef had dropped the chips for the last two meals on the floor so had had to share what he'd put on the others but was making us some more, which came out about 10 or more minutes after the meals so most of our food that could be eaten had gone! The smaller tables had 2 or 4 people on them that all came into the pub after us in dribs and drabs so no actual rush, so why our table had to wait for them all to be served first was beyond us!!!!! Part of our party had come over from Australia and it was on my daughters recommendation that we would go to the ship Inn for tea because it was good. We'll, guess what, we won't be going again in a hurry, and my daughter has changed her opinion of the place too!!! It was 20th September

She managed to save the lasagne & put it down on top of his garlic bread. The decor looked something out of the 1950s. The staff seemed to serve the locals first. The food that didn't end up on the floor was average. Not very cheap. The manageress was something out of a carry on film, looked a bit like Peggy Mount. We will not be going back there.

Lunch time food was amazing. Sadly dinner time food was awful and the ice cream very gritty The atmosphere and service was great.

Really delicious food and very friendly and efficient service. Also a good choice of vegan and vegetarian options. A great place for a family meal out.
