The Ship Inn in Pembrokeshire

We are stating very close by, and decided we'd do a circular walk here with our two dogs. Our Visitors Book had lots of comments that the food was good here, so we thought we'd have lunch when we finished our walk. So, we got to the pub just after 12 noon. There was a notice in the window stating that off season, they didn't open till 2pm. So we we decided to go off and look at the lighthouse at Scrumble Head and return later. We arrived back at 2-15. We went in the pub, and picked up the menu, only to be told that it was the evening menu, and they didn't serve lunch during the week. So we left - and won't be returning. As we approached the car park, there was a party of 4 just arriving. I told them about no lunch, and they immediately got back in their car and drove off. So that's probably over £120 worth of revenue thrown away. Why do the flyers in holiday cottages not state this? Sorry guys, you shot yourself in the foot ....

Had a beautiful lunch here today, had the soup for starters and fish and chips for mains everything was very tasty and piping hot.

Fantastically kept local Welsh beers and delicious food. Warm and welcoming both to locals and holiday makers alike. The staff were fabulous - chatty and informative of the local attractions. We were made to believe this was out longstanding local, although we were only there for the week. Hats off to Andrew out friendly barman who even came in on his day off to say goodbye. Can’t praise the place any more highly. Top notch!

This is an absolutely delightful pub in the village of Trefin. The bar staff are amazing, warm and welcoming; very happy to greet the dogs too. Superb food, served very quickly considering how busy it is. The pub has an excellent selection of beers and ciders all in appropriate glasses! Very good value for money, all served in a snug, old school but very clean and organised public bar. Couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming.

Wir haben zwei Nächte im Ship Inn verbracht und waren sehr zufrieden. Das Gästezimmer ist sauber und gemütlich mit grossem Bad. Es liegt direkt über dem Pub, ist aber trotzdem ruhig. Für das Frühstück, das man selber zubereitet, wird alles zur Verfügung gestellt, inkl. hartgekochte Eier, Käse, frische Früchte und mehr. Uns hat es Spass gemacht, den Tag auf diese Weise zu starten. Das Essen im Pub hat uns geschmeckt, ebenso das lokale Ale. Im Biergarten hat man eine schöne Aussicht auf die wundervolle Landschaft und man kommt schnell ins Gespräch mit anderen Gästen. Uns hat der Aufenthalt sehr gefallen. Ein guter Ort für eine Pause von einer Wanderung auf dem Coast Path.

Lovely lunch on a sunny day away from the crowds in Porthgain. So good to see the rejuvenation of this village pub. The lunch menu is straightforward pub food but very well executed with good quality ingredients - so tasty cheese and proper scampi. A good range of beers and lagers kept in great condition. Add to that a warm welcome, pleasant beer garden with beautiful country views all 10 minutes walk from the coast path.

Been many times over the years and it’s great to see the pub busy and serving great food. Had the burger which was excellent. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and the live music is brilliant. Well worth a visit.

A lovely friendly country pub with a good atmosphere, serving great food. Our family of six enjoyed a great meal together with wonderful views of the countryside and excellent service. The portions were large and everything was really fresh. A couple of us had pizzas which were very tasty with a thin crust, I had a flavourful burger which came with a nice sauce and fresh salad. The others had fish and chips which were truly amazing. The fish was covered in a light batter and we all commented on our lovely chips. We would definitely visit again.

We walked the coast path and managed to catch the sunset at the Trefin end of the walk and called into the Shop Inn for a drink and hopefully a meal if they were still serving. They sure were we were the only ones in at the time and got 2 great pizzas some of the best Elderflower drink that wifey has ever tasted and got a can to take away with us too! My Dog Enzo also got his own dog bowl. We narrowly missed out on chocolate pavlova but we’d love to come back earlier another day and give it a go! Great place and great staff many thanks.

Good food in nice pub atmosphere. Burger was great. Tagine was more like a curry, but tasty enough. Can get busy so book ahead.

This pub has had a major facelift for 2023 - so cosy with a lovely friendly atmosphere. As a solo female traveller, I’m completely comfortable having dinner here or a drink. Good pub style food. It’s not cheap but it’s good value and you are helping to preserve the heart of the village,

Recommended to eat here by campsite owner nearby. Small village pub with cozy bar and restaurant with a large dining area at rear. We booked night before and had table in small restaurant area which was lovely. Ordered beef chilli con carne and hubby ordered bbq pork ribs and bottle of Merlot. Wine was very nice and food was delicious. This is no frills cooking ie no silly lettuce and pointless stuff as adornment (garnish with hot food a personal pet hate of mine) - proper home cooked tasty food. Really enjoyed the chilli which had nice heat but not too spicy and generous portions. Had sticky toffee pudding and hubby had summer fruit crumble, both really delicious. Would definitely recommend and return next time camping in the area.

We have really enjoyed visiting the Ship Inn during our stay in Trefin. The food is homemade and delicious. My husband’s favourite was the Beef and Guinness pie and I loved the fish and chips. A good choice of real ale too. If you are walking the coastal path it is a great stop off point for lunch.

Lovely homecooked food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful garden which you can sit out in and look at the lovely views.

An evening gone wrong is all I can say about my visit here. We investigated the basic bar menu and a member of staff advised us that there was also a specials board, when we looked it was blank, on further investigation we notice another blackboard with a few items listed. Then my colleague ordered a 'real ale', only to be told it would take 40 minutes before it was ready. The time was about 7.30 pm, prime time on a summers evening. I ordered a simple scampi and chips, we sat on an outside table, after waiting about 20 minutes I was told that they had run out of scampi. I opted for cod and chips, I was so disappointed it was a shaped piece of fish that was overcooked. At first a bit quirky but turned into a bad experience.

Have been here many times & it's always been ok. Last year or so it's been awful- regularly don't have any decent real ales. Have often left and gone to other nearby pubs that are consistent with providing proper beer. It advertises itself as a gastropub with local real ales - this is far from the truth.

Stopped here for tea whilst staying at a cottage near by. Didn’t look great upon entering, but we were allowed to take the dogs in. Not sure if it is under refurbishment but the kitchen was half way through an update so the menu was limited. They did do veggie & vegan options. We both ordered curries. They were on the expensive side at nearly £10.00 each... but they tasted nice. Nothing special for the price.

I hope the manager or owner of the Ship reads this as all the basics are there for it to be the pub that Trefin deserves and needs – as it was when we visited a year ago.Good, cosy building/decor (and pool table!). Friendly, helpful staff. Good beer (albeit only one option, but better one good beer than 2 stale ones), and a nice selection of spirits. Good (country) views).Yet all that was completely wasted when the “food” arrived. The worst pub food I have ever seen. The curry was dark sauce with mainly rice in it with little specks of dark meat, served with some hard (yesterday's?) rice on the side spattered with more curry sauce, looking like reheated leftovers, and the steak pie had heavy indigestible pastry wrapped around some gristle in gravy. All for premium prices. We’d planned on eating here through the holiday, but the first visit was very definitely the last! Looking at online reviews afterwards – I see that we are far from alone. Come on Ship,just get the food right (or even just not so very obviously, disastrously wrong) and you’re onto a winner.

This is a proper old fashioned Welsh pub that has been in the same family for generations, how many pubs can say that these days ! Lovely menu including good vegan selections (also not common in this area) everything cooked to order so not fast food . Tenby Harbour beer served and good gin selection. Very cosy atmosphere in a lovely village .

Total rip off and shambles of a place.Very dated pub but was expecting good food Ordered at 8pm 2 cod and chips £12.50 each .It was nearly an hour and a half later we got our food.It was rubbish.Frozen cod type fillet with cardboard type chips.Other people there had also been waiting same time or longer to get their food.All meals looked poor.If your going to charge that amount for fish and chips make sure its fresh not Frozen Birds eye type.Had better food at my local Asda cafe for far less money.Drinks expensive too.Very disappointed and feel ripped off.All I can say is avoid this place. Food is frozen / poor standard ,how they can call themselves a gastro pub is beyond me as it is one of the worst places I have eaten.To be honest i wouldent go back even if it was free.

This is a lovely traditional pub of historical interest. The staff are very friendly, helpful and give a warm welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are good and the homemade food is delicious - steak and ale pie highly recommended but also plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating with fabulous views.

Nice place and kind staff. The food is good but they often run out of dishes and this time we waited for longer than an hour (1 hour..!) when they came to tell us that they'd run out of pie. Not a great experience

We dropped upon this pub last Sunday after a day coast path walking and we were hungry and tired. Lovely friendly staff with great local knowledge and it was lovely to chat. Food was really great, especially the pie, and my fella loved trying the local beers. Definitely will be back next time we’re in Pembrokeshire. See you soon.

This is, or rather, always has been, a very friendly, unpretentious, village pub, serving good beer and ok pub food. They seem to have forgotten that the role of a pub is to serve beer that customers want to drink, or, come to that, any beer at all. I was told, at the height of the holiday season, that they would be getting some in for the weekend, and that they don’t like to put on good ‘english’ beer because they get complaints?

Stayed in Trefin for a week and visited the pub, only one pump with real ale and then it wasn't local, everything behind the bar looks like its been brought from the local shop, the only larger was Carling. The garden area needs attending to, over grown and weeds coming out of flower pots instead of flowers just not cared for at all and the garden has a lovely view such a pity. All in all the pub looks and feels like nobody cares about it. Can't comment on the food as didn't want to eat there.

This is a friendly local that has changed little over the years. We ate here and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The food is freshly cooked and you need to be prepared to wait.We had steak pie, which was a proper pie and spag. bol..Both were tasty and we would happily order them again. There is a small but varied menu with specials available.

If you ever find yourself in Trefin, do yourself a favour and pop in here for a pint of real ale and a good hot supper.

Three of us visited the Ship Inn after a long journey to Trefin from home in South East England. The young staff greeted us very warmly and served us with freshly cooked fish and chips which were delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and they were happy to let customers sit in the warmth for as long as they liked without being pressured to leave after finishing the meal and drinks.

Beer on draft was off, Grolsch was off, basically a pub with no beer. Despite fairly high tourist season there was, not surprisingly, almost nobody in the pub. So I left.

We stayed just outside the village and this was our nearest pub. Really nice pint and all the folk we met there were very friendly and chatty, made you feel very welcome. Good selection of drinks, gins looked very tempting!

Passed through Trefin on a bit of a ramble and fancied a lunch. Open signs were at the door so we went in. Fire was roaring in the lounge but we stepped into the bar area. Half pint glasses were on all the beer pumps and we were greeted and told they weren't actually open as they had a big party over the weekend and had no beer. So we left. If they weren't open,why were the signs outside and the lights on and the doors open? Confused.

Stayed in the village for a weeks holiday and visited the ship for a few drinks each evening and also ate there a couple of times. There were a couple of occasions when it felt like we had stumbled into acorn antiques, but that did add to the charm of the place. The locals were very welcoming and the pub is dog friendly which was great for us and our two dogs. The food was good and I really like the place.

Myself and my girlfriend visited The Ship today. We ordered two roasts with the lovely waitress. When the meals arrived, there was a massive yorkshire pudding! The gravy was tasty, the meat was perfectly cooked, and the roasts were very crispy. Will definitely be returning.

Following my previous review of this place, when we visited last year and found it great, this visit was dreadful by comparison.

We were staying in a holiday cottage nearby and found this amazing dog and people friendly pub...we ate there most nights and really enjoyed the food...we were made so welcome and loved the dogs..millie Bella harley to name but a few who put up with our 12 yr old grumpy poppy...loved the festive burger
