The cleaning staff was loud and unprofessional they did a half hearted job with our room saw our birthday decorations and did not wish us good one. Also highlighting lack of diversity in staff and those in attendance can make minorities feel intimidated. Part of the experience is the environment so it is very important.

2 stars because there are no lifts and we had luggage im a pregnant woman and if there are lifts which I’m sure there went it was not pointed out to me soo… its a health and safety hazard to carry my luggage upstairs and be out of breath or fall. Other point is the lack of diversity form the staff to the people that attend I felt uncomfortable as a black woman and you can probably point out who it is. I’m sure others felt uncomfortable from me presence as it’s not diverse you can do better with staff and advertising for diversity. The rooms was nice and service all kind. Pool was great but again very uncomfortable. Overall 2 stars

Beautiful hotel. Lovely pool, at just the right temperature. Cool. Not like a tropical pond. Great food. Lovely grounds. All round nice experience. I had one of only 2 single rooms. With a single bed, and had a lovely sleep. Very clean, with an en suite bathroom. I would highly recommend this gorgeous hotel.

This review is just for the spa. I’m sad to write a negative review however I have reached out to the spa manager but have not been able to get any where with my complaint. My cousin and I booked a treatment based on an instagram advert. The treatment we received was 25 minutes shorter than advertised. I mentioned this to the therapist and showed them the advert and she offered me entry into the pool area as compensation, I explained that I already had paid for entry into the pool area as part of a food package I’d also booked on the same day. I asked to speak to the manager who was not available and was told they would contact me. I chased up the complaint to be told again that I was offered entry into the pool as compensation for the shortened treatment, to again explain I’d already paid for entry into the pool that day. I was hoping for a reply and at least some empathy or acknowledgment of the incorrect advert or treatment but nothing. I find it very disappointing when businesses feel they can short change or rip off guests and not acknowledge any wrong doing. The pool area is also dirty black mould in the jacuzzi and generally untidy. It’s a shame that such a fantastic setting isn’t run with a high standard of customer service.

Room was a bit meh, its supposed to have a vintage feel, but the room decco needs an uplift, with flaking paint, blown tiles and stained carpets. No pride at all in the cleaning, with hair in the bed, a white mark on the bedding and plenty of cobwebs around. Went to the spa pool, and it was freezing and the steam room was out of order. The TV was tiny and around the corner on the wall. Bed was so uncomfortable, and there was a noise outside the window all night. We felt optimistic about breakfast, how can you ruin that! We were asked what hot drink, took room number, let us get started and then told us the breakfast chef phoned in sick 30 mins ago!!! So couldn't have any cooked breakfast. Breakfast was supposed to start at 6:30, we arrived at about 8:45, so that's gotta be a lie which annoys me even more. Overall for a 4star hotel, at 120 for b and b, extremely dissappointing

Stayed here for my birthday with my husband.. 3 nights.. Beautiful setting with a majestic grand hotel nestled in the most glorious country side... A lovely welcome with the most Covid 19 preventive measure in place... Gapoy cheerful reception staff.. The Bedroom was so big and so tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with an enormous super king size bed.. which was so Cwtchy with gorgeous white bedding.. The bathroom was huge too with a bath which is always a plus for me as so many hotels these days, just having showers... We used the Spa centre daily, the pool was great.. Again with meticulous Covid 19 preventative measures in place.. As a birthday tray I had a massage too which was the best I have ever had !! We had breakfast every morning which was beautifully presented and tasted delicious with plenty of choice.. Very professional staff .. courteous and polite at all times... We also had a very tasty evening meal for my birthday too.. Thoroughly delicious I can’t recommend this Hotel enough.. I’m coming back again next year and the next and the next

Down in the area for work and have always used Best Western Hotels as I have previously found their sites to be of a very high standard. This evening at around 20:00 I asked to book a table for food and was informed the restaurant was full and there was no space. Ok with Covid restriction i understand that space is at a premium, however to be told that they were simply too busy to support room service was astonishing, no further communication or direction that's it. The receptionist turned away without a second thought and I was left without any direction of how i was to obtain food. I had ben sat in the bar previously to the enquiry with a college from work and had 2 bottles of beer. What were my choices? Well luckily my college came back to run me to the local shop where I ended up with a sandwich and a bag of crisps. I would have been happy for the walk but I didn't really fancy a 3.2 mile round trip. Based on this unknowingness moving forward I will be looking for an early check-out and will not be coming back moving forwards

Stayed for a dinner, bed and breakfast weekend break, location is fantastic and views are good and good walks near by. Good location to explore south Pembrokeshire. Food very good and covid set up very clear and meals times staggered. We stayed in room 3 ,in the East wing, comfortable but noise from kitchen extraction unit at 6-30am could be heard very clearly. All the staff were helpful in dinning rooms but apart from checking in, reception staff were a little unhelpful. That said wonderful break .

We stayed for 2 nights ( 29/07-31/08) in a family room in the studios / annex. The room was very tired , damp stains above windows, a drainage smell in the bathroom & very poor pressure shower. Some of the electrical fittings needed attention & all mattresses were past their best. The ceiling had been repainted to perhaps freshen up the room ( & some new carpet) but pointless if you’re going to splatter paint over all the net curtains & bedside lights fittings?Very untidy in & around the studio areas ( piles of dead leaves / dead plants in pots) but nothing that a good days work wouldn’t solve - why is it that the family accommodation always fall short? With an overhaul these rooms could be good! I totally understand that Co-vid restrictions were in place -we ate a cooked breakfast in a marquee which could certainly have been cheered up with some plants / flowers but our plates varied considerably on both days & we needed to ask for cutlery , side plates , condiments on both days. I get they weren’t displayed for Co-Vid reasons but they could have been brought to the table with the food! We also had to ask ( via phone)for extra items like loo roll & tea, coffee , milk & then went to collect at reception. It seems that they hadn’t quite got into the re-opening routine. I totally understand that rooms couldn’t be serviced or entered but things could be left outside doors like the continental breakfast in a box was.Obviously the pool wasn’t open but the tennis courts were also shut for maintenance - I did email to ask why lots of little jobs to improve the place couldn’t have been undertaken during lockdown but was told the hotel was full to capacity with key workers & only emergency repairs were being done although there was a gardener too.We were charged extra after we left which seemed firstly a mix up between an evening meal ( even though we were not there) or a breakfast charge but this was rectified.Staff were friendly , pleasant & helpful but there was obviously very few of them at this time. I did receive a partial refund for the stay after emailing my comments generally to Best Western & having a response from the Lamphey manager but I feel the Co-Vid situation is being used to cover all shortcomings which is a little unfair. ( I hadn’t appreciated that hotels are all independently owned & run )We didn’t have any other meals at the hotel but The Dial Inn a ten minute walk away was excellent & very well organised!

Booked several weeks in advance for my wife’s birthday and given the worse room in the hotel. Ground floor at the back of the hotel with a window facing a wall. The only room to do so. The room was very small and had a musty smell. I went to speak to the receptionist and kindly asked if there was another room available. She was very nice but explained that she could only move us on the second night, which she did. That room was better but the beds in both rooms were old; not comfortable and need replacing. When we got home, I sent an email to the hotel explaining that we appeared to have been given the worst room, even though we had booked well in advance. I explained that we had been disappointed with being allocated such a room in the first place and that seeing as it was our first visit to the hotel, it was not encouraging us to return. The receptionist was very nice and did what she could for us at the time and we were grateful for that. I did however feel I wanted to express our disappointment with the room allocation and why we were disappointed. The response from the manager was that they would remove us from the emailing list. A rather poor response to say the least.

Stay here 14/3/20 booked a bargain spa over night stay for myself and my husband on spa break , a 50 minute full body massage each, bed and breakfast, afternoon tea, and £25 per person towards your evening meal £280, we arrived at 12pm (had a 4 and a half hour drive from Manchester) our massage was booked for 12.30pm, the staff were lovely and for health and safety reasons with the corona virus at the moment, they checked our temperature and gave us hand sanitizer which made us feel more at ease that everyone had been checked before entering the spa, we had our amazing massage then we had afternoon tea in the conservatory, we was spoilt for choice with the selection of cakes and sandwiches, we didn't have to change our clothes just walk over with our robes on so we could go back into the spa and enjoy the rest of the day using the facility's pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, checked into the hotel at 5pm, had our temperature checked again and there was sanitizer everywhere in the hotel, our room was lovely, very clean and with a very big comfy bed, tv, hairdryer, tea and coffee biscuits and even a coffee machine with pods, there's also free Wi-Fi.Our evening meals were lovely, after having so much food at afternoon tea I chose a a lighter bite burger with bacon and cheese onion rings and chips this was still a very big portion, but was so nice I forced myself to eat it my husband and a lovely steak with chips and prawns to start. Our room at the night was lovely and quiet and had a good night sleep. Breakfast I have a lovely full English with coffee and orange juice. The staff that work at this hotel we're all lovely hard working and talkative which we like makes you feel more welcome. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return thank you to everyone who worked at lamphey during our stay.

We had a great stay here last weekend. Ok so the rooms/decor could do with a revamp but overall the rooms were clean and tidy and we slept well. The hotel is set in lovely grounds. The spa area was great - a lovely pool to swim in. I didn’t have lunch or dinner here but did have breakfast. There’s not a massive choice put out for breakfast (toast and cereals) but they have a menu where you can order full cooked breakfast and other options. I couldn’t see vegetarian breakfast on the menu but asked and was provided with a fantastic breakfast (with vegetarian sausages!). My other half ordered some porridge which he said was great. There’s a hairdryer in the room and we also had an iron and ironing board which was handy. To summarise we thought this hotel was great. The staff were really helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. I was worried it would disturb the other rooms. We needn’t have worried about the room above us as the bumping and creaking from the room above was just as loud. We also could not open the window to let air in, so got up with a blocked nose and head ache. We spoke to reception in the morning and they sorted the window, but the fan was not done, so we tried to limit the times we put the light.

On our first night at this hotel what appeared to be the main ding room was open. This is situated on the one side of the hotel near the bar area. Its a very large area and i suspect it is used for wedding receptions and other large functions. I personally found it had little atmosphere as there were just three tables in use, so basically with three couples in such a vast space it had no buzz! On one of the other nights we used a much smaller restaurant that was just off the reception. It was perfect as it was well furnished, warm and quite intimate. I had a shoulder and back massage and found it far to rough and painful, I was in agony at times and didn’t find it relaxing or enjoyable, I feel that I should have been asked what level of massage I wanted (soft, medium or hard). Food at the hotel was nice enough and the staff are friendly. Breakfast was self service for cereals and fruit but the cooked breakfast had to be ordered and was nice enough too. As a returning guest, I can confirm that the hotel still comes highly recommended! The staff are so helpful and friendly, remembering me from the Easter visit and recommending different walks and places to visit. The spa & pool facilities are great and is an amazing way to unwind after a day of walking and before a tasty meal in the restaurant. The only downside would be that the menu doesn't appear to change much, so if staying for a while, it might be a little repetitive! Breakfast is great and just what a walker needs before a day of exploring!!

Myself and my wife and 2 kids stayed last night. We spent the day on the beach and the pool was a lifesaver after a hot day. The studio room was one that had recently been refurbished and was plenty big enough. The kids had separate bedroom that was nice. Chose not to have evening meal but breakfast was more than adequate. The staff we came across were helpful and friendly at reception, spa and restaurant. Kids slept well so all in all nice place to spend the night.

We stayed here for one night for an extended family get-together. There were about 25 of us for dinner and breakfast, and most of us stayed overnight, some in the hotel itself and a few others in the bungalow in the grounds. When we called to book the owner was fantastic, very accommodating and understanding. Dinner was very good, with everyone served within 5 minutes of each other for each course - no mean feat when you consider we ordered a la carte from the menu when we had sat down. Service was very good too, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent too - a very nice full English. Accommodation is as expected based on the price you pay, slightly dated decor but comfortable and clean. I’d definitely return to the hotel, and would recommend it to others.

An impressive ex-manor house in a great rural location. We stayed on a B&B; basis and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a family suite. Decor/carpet was newish, furnishing was older but fine. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. We did not try the spa or the infinity pool. Breakfast was hot (cooked to order) and there was plenty. All staff were pleasant and efficient. The only downside: we caught sight of one of the chefs (outside smoking) and his attire was so filthy he may have been the reason for the ‘2’ hygiene rating all by himself (it put us off having an evening meal there; luckily, we found the village’s Dial Inn to be as good as it's reviews).

Very disappointed with my experience today. We were a party of four; two of us on the spa day package, two joining for lunch. Our server had no idea what was included in the spa day offering, the staff seemed to have great trouble finalising the bill at the end, the food was very sub-standard, we waited 50 minutes for our starters to arrive. From start to finish it was disappointing after what had been a lovely relaxing morning in the spa.

Stayed at the hotel for a Birthday weekend which should have been the weekend the Beast from the East visited but as we were unable to go due to the fact we were snowed in they kindly changed our booking for two weeks later but sadly again it was spoilt as we managed to get there this time but had arranged and paid for two nights but we were beaten once again by the snow and had to cut the trip short to avoid being stranded which was such a shame as we found the hotel to be very welcoming and friendly the staff were great, we had a lovely spacious room with a seating area. The room had tea/coffees facilities also toiletries in the bathroom and iron/board in wardrobe, shame there were no bathrobes provided as their is a fab spar that you have use of with swimming pool/jacuzzi/steam room and sauna and would have been a great help to change in your room and walk over but saying that the changing rooms are great with lockers etc so not to much of a hardship I guess but that would have been my preference they also offer a great selection of treatments if required and again the girls were great very informative and friendly.

We stayed here as treat for my birthday. We booked one of the coach house studios as we are smokers and have easy access to the outside. On arrival, the lovely receptionist Chrissie said we'd been upgraded and had a room in the main building. When we saw it, we were disappointed as it was tiny and very claustrophobic, also a long way from any exit. I went to speak to Chrissie and she was wonderful and sorted us out with a spacious, lovely studio in the coach house.

Despite giving a week's notice of our vegan and vegetarian dietary preferences and despite being told that the chef welcomes this advanced warning so he can put on a special dish to suit, he did not bother. In fact, even when the manager, Ian, who tried to help as he himself has vegetarians in his own family, asked for a special vegan salad it came with feta cheese on it. Would a properly qualified and trained chef serve cheese to a vegan? You decide!

Just returned from a family weekend away at Lamphey Court. A mixed review.....this hotel has the facilities to be a fabulous hotel. Hotel exterior and grounds are fabulous and the views from the hotel are beautiful. The Spa and Pool area is great if you have kids, but the pool was very cold. The were a few mix ups with booked spa treatments and no apology over mix ups. Main hotel inside could be fabulous, but looking a bit tired now and lots of peeling and cracked paintwork, gloss work shabby and discoloured, carpets very tired and in need of replacing. Conservatory nice, but breakfast room a bit shabby and tired. We were in an annex family room and the room was ideal and large, but again, a new carpet and a lick of paint could have made it fabulous, bathroom very tired looking too. Had an evening meal one night and although it was OK, it all came out at different times and was quite expensive for what you got. The bar is quite expensive too, I expect a hotel to be dearer than a normal bar, but it is quite expensive here. Breakfast was OK, but had just as good in a travel lodge / Premier Inn TBH, but the girls worked so hard at breakfast !! However, the room simply couldn't cater for everyone each morning, as the room was not large enough when the hotel is busy. Simple management......use the conservatory, it's a larger room. When we checked out, we weren't asked if we'd had a lovely stay, or if everything was OK, simply given the bar bill to settle and that was it, no 'safe journey, have a lovely day'...... nothing !! All in all we did have a lovely weekend away and this hotel had a pool, which is what we wanted for the kids. However, Best Western Please Note !!!!......This Hotel needs a refurb now, it's a bit tired looking and it could be a fabulous hotel, you need more staff, as they seem to be doing their best and a bit of customer service training wouldn't go a miss.

We had family staying at the hotel and it was our last evening before heading home. It was raining and none of us felt like driving far. The family suggested an evening meal at the hotel. If we are honest we really didn't like the idea to begin with and felt they wouldn't be able to cater for us as vegetarians. We were wrong...we admit it!We actually had a really nice meal with lots of laughter and delicious food.We had a table by the windows looking into the garden, the table was large and comfortable. We had explained our dietary needs and were told to pretty much say what we wanted and they would see what the chef could do. My husband picked the one vegetarian item and said it was lovely. I had the macaroni cheese (which was for children so I ask for an adult portion - it was enormous!!!).The restaurant manage Iain was brilliant and kept us all entertained through the evening. He was wonderful with our little boy who was seven at the time which makes a big difference to a child. We all left with big smiles on our faces and would recommend a visit here.

If 3.5 was an option to rate, I'd choose that. It's not very good, but not average.I may have rated higher if the check out clerk gave a 'gesture of good will'.My complaint was that the bed was effectively, 'not fit for purpose'. It was sunk in three places a far too soft causing broken sleep and sore back. When we advised the hotel on check out (of which we were not asked about our stay) of the problem, all we received was a "sorry".A little more than that would've gone a long way considering the rest of the staff were excellent. The hotel is a little dated, but that's part of the charm.Nearby Tenby is a must visit. The leisure facilities are great, and the massages were excellent. We'd happily visit again, but I'll be testing the bed way before I'm about to drop after a long, late day!

My wife found the Lamphey Court Hotel purely by chance on an email from Secret Escapes. So we booked it for two nights. It is set on it's own in beautiful countryside just outside, and overlooking the small village of Lamphey. It is an old Country House with some modern additions but still retaining many of its original features and charm. Just across the lane is the Lamphey Bishop's Palace, which is worth a visit and I have reviewed that separately. The staff at the Lamphey Court Hotel are extremely friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. Checking in was a very pleasant and easy experience. The hotel has been modernised but the old house still has its character. The floors and stairs creak a little, (or that could have been my knees!) Our room was spotlessly clean, so a big thumbs up to the housekeeping staff for that. Adjacent to the main building is the Spa Leisure Centre which is freely available to hotel guests. Any treatments are paid for separately. My wife booked a back and neck massage and was treated by masseuse, Demi, who my wife said was fantastic. We enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel restaurant and the food was beautifully prepared and the service from the waiting staff excellent, and again pleasant and friendly. The secluded setting of the hotel makes it a very peaceful place to stay. Breakfast is served as a 'help yourself' cold buffet of cereals, fruit, pastries toast etc and any hot cooked food is ordered with the staff. Again the cooked breakfast was well prepared and the service was without delay. So breakfast was another relaxed eating experience. The hotel is part of the Best Western group and I would gladly stay here again if we were visiting the area. My photos show the impressive approach up the driveway. The outside entrance and the sumptuous lounge. All good at the Lamphey Court Hotel.

We stayed here for five days in March. The old House, home of the Matthias family for generations has kept its old charm. The staircase, lounge, reception are exactly as they must have been when the house was built. However, it now benefits from the addition of a beautiful conservatory for dining and a custom-built fitness centre, which comprises a pool, saunas, jacuzzi and beauty treatment rooms. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the bedrooms were fitted with all comforts. Fresh water bottles are supplied each day and there are tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, together with a generous supply of biscuits. We stayed for two dinners which were above standard. Unfortunately, rose wine was not chilled (although the bottles of water were), so we had to ask for ice to go with it and it was noticeable that the supply of butter at breakfast was meagre. Those are the only complaints and we are looking forward to going back.An additional welcome surprise is the ruined Bishop's Palace at the end of the drive and there seemed to be an abundance of castles in the area.

Stayed overnight with a dinner included. The restaurant is part of a stately home converted into an hotel. The food for dinner was mediocre. Vegetarian choices were limited to 3 over two courses assuming that the soup was also vegetarian. The waitress spilt our wine but did not offer to clear up. Our table abutted the heater that blasted hot air. The lean lamb burger was loaded with fat. To be fair when we complained we were given a free bottle of wine. Ironically at breakfast, given the paucity of vegetarian options at dinner, there were vegetarian sausages and soya milk on offer. The hotel is great but the restaurant lets it down.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE SECTION FOR RESTAURANT REVIEWS NOT HOTEL REVIEWS. There is a separate entry under "Best Western Lamphey Court Hotel" which has over 770 reviews of the hotel.Whilst staying at the hotel on the first night we opted to have dinner in the hotel restaurant. Before the meal we decided to get a drink at the bar, as did two other couples, whilst we were waiting for someone to appear behind the bar. One couple gave up their quest for a drink. We were eventually served by the barman who we had seen employed serving meals to tables in the conservatory moments earlier. The whole meal was tainted first of all by the behaviour of parents in the conservatory/restaurant. One set allowed their small child to make around 10 to 15 circuits through the dining area, bar and adjacent lounge followed by both of them in turn. They made no effort to control the child who also shouted loudly at times too. The staff appeared to make no effort to curtail this activity despite it being, not just disturbing but also potentially dangerous. On another table, a slightly older set of parents, sat with their daughter of around 7 or 8 years old (my best estimate) who spent most of the meal talking in a very loud voice so that the whole dining area could hear her clearly. Whilst the parents of said child were speaking in normal voices they seemed oblivious to the fact that their child’s elevated voice could be a problem to other diners wanting a relaxed or even perhaps romantic meal. Yes we have been spoiled by the behaviour of parents in both other countries that we have visited and within even some culturally different areas closer to where we live. The restaurant was less than 50% full. The food was acceptable, had it not been then this would have been a "Terrible" one green spot review, but, given the surroundings was for me in the region of being at least 20% overpriced. The large conservatory was cold an uninviting. It was so cold that I had to move away from the window. At the end of the meal I was considerably colder down one side than the other. We considered asking to move tables but that would have placed us even nearer to the noisy children so stayed put and moved into the lounge area almost as soon as we had finished our last morsel of food. The following night we ate half a mile back up the drive at the Lamphey Hall Hotel which was warm, welcoming and had a more imaginative menu for a slightly lower price – we would advise that you eat there in preference.

Given that the village of Lamphey in Wales is basically a crossroads, though a picturesque and charming one, I did not expect to be greeted by such comparatively opulent accommodations as I did at the Lamphey Court Hotel, a spa hotel located on a gorgeous piece of land overlooking bucolic fields, herds of sheep, and next to a haunting ruin known as the Lamphey Bishop's Palace. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed without being overly fussy, the grounds were beautifully maintained and the spa facilities were impressive. Its proximity to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path was our main reason for being there, but the hotel itself was fine. We did not, however, have an opportunity to eat in its restaurant, so I can not comment on the cuisine.

Leak and potato soup. No flavour at all I think it was made for five people and then watered down so much that it tasted of nothing at all. The main meal frozen roast potatoes were served that were so hard that a fee guests lost theirs off the plate. Some people did not even have all the veg on their plates and considering there was only two bits of carrot and a couple of green beans it was not too hard to miss. I was on the top table as the brides mother and my husband and I did not even get our starter until I asked for it by which time some had finished theirs. The sweet which was cherry cheesecake was the worst of all as the cherries had not even had the stones removed which I thought was dangerous and neglect on their part. Plates were brought in for the wedding cake after everyone had been told to clear the room so that it could be altered for the evening. The evening buffet was no better although I can not comment on the food because there was not enough of it, my husband and I did not manage to get any it was gone so we had a bowl of cereal when we got home.

I've stayed at the hotel many times over the years. The hotel itself is pleasant BUT the food in the restaurant has got steadily worse. The salmon was ordered as a starter. Incidentally it did not state on the menu that it was smoked salmon. The dish arrived looking dismal which matched the pile of abysmal tasting salmon. It was shoddily put together with a token bit of salad consisting of iceberg lettuce chunks and exactly one half of a cherry tomato drizzled in a honey mustard dressing. The accompanying bread was a slice of seeded plastic bread but beautifully cut in triangles. Thank goodness for the inch thick slice of thickly pithed lemon to add some oomph to the plate. The main meal chosen was hake. Well, what had once been hake before it had been overcooked then left beneath the searing heat of the hotplate lamps for considerable time before arriving desiccated before me. The plate consisted of literally two pieces of dried hake ( I've spent some time in Iceland, the country not the shop and consider myself an expert in dried fish), a handful of baby new potatoes and a bunch of (lost their colour but still hard and squeaky) fine beans. I'm sure they'd been fine before the chef got hold of them. That was it - literally. Totally void of any liquid or sauce and even an offering of beurre noisette (burnt butter) would've been welcome. Now I have seen better looking and better cooked school dinners than this sad and sorry offering. The saving grace was the 3 butter curls that were meant for the token bread roll and used desperately to impart some flavour on the potatoes. If they were Pembrokeshire new potatoes then every ounce of taste had been boiled out of them. These butter curls along with copious use of the salt cellar really helped to give a smidgen of flavour to the lack lustre plate. Yes, I cleared my plate as I had only had a light breakfast and had skipped lunch and was desperately hungry. I felt extremely sorry for the young waitress who came to ask if everything was alright as she was met with stony silence. I learnt from the past not to complain here. I had asked for a confit du canard starter that was served in a dinky kilner jar and straight to my plate from the coldest part of the fridge to be warmed up to release the duck from the fat that encased it. I explained to the waitress how it ought to be served hot or at least warm as they do in France only to be fobbed off by "That's how everybody serves it around here". Canard? Don't swear Rodney came to mind and if you imagine eating a cold block of Tesco value lard then you'll also get the gist of my past dining experience at this restaurant.
