Can’t stop thinking about the food which we had on Friday night. It was absolutely delicious. Defo my new place to go. The flavours were amazing and the service was great too. Shame they had no coffee left which would have finished the whole experience off nicely, but all in all we loved it and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

We booked a table for 6 people a few days in advice. It was for a celebration dinner. When we arrived, no one greeted us and we had to find someone to help us. Firstly the waitress said someone was sitting on our table. Then we were offered two tables a few feet apart. We had children with us and all wanted to sit together. The waitress wasn't bothered and said it's up to you if you stay. Won't be going back.

we waited over an hour for food, communication was utterly lacking and we weren’t told about the food wait until our complaint when the response was they were one chef down, completely understandable however the service was very disappointing, we overheard our waitress putting other orders ahead of ours and ignoring us/avoiding eye contact. sorry to say as usually a lovely place to visit, but the offer of a coffee on the house really didn’t satisfy when we already had to wait over an hour for a couple of sandwiches.

This is a photo of my cremated sea bass fillet. I complained to a waiter and received an apology. I asked for the chef to be informed of my disappointment and apparently ‘he didn’t say much.’ As former regulars, we won’t be returning and it’s not surprising the pub is nothing like as busy as it used to be. We left and went elsewhere for a dessert.

I recently visited The Ship annd was looking forward to spending time there with my family for my brother’s birthday however was extremely disappointed with the treatment one of our party received. It was evident that this individual was singled out for no apparent reason, which left a very negative impression. The staff's behavior was unprofessional and unjustified, making the entire experience uncomfortable and unpleasant for all of us. It's disheartening to see such unfair treatment in a place that we expected to be welcoming and respectful to all customers. I just hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue to ensure no one else has to go through such an unpleasant experience in the future. Until then, I cannot recommend this establishment.

We visited twice while on holiday. Although both times were ok, there were little niggles on both trips. Evening dinner was good, but unfortunately due to a mix up with the order, my order was wrong. Therefore, I ate my dinner after my husband. They were very apologetic & only charged for half the dish. But the damage was done. The other visit was an afternoon meet up with a relative who lives the area. No food this time. We were interrupted by a staff member loudly putting a reservation sign on the table, inferring that the table was needed shortly. Why our table was the only one reserved wasn’t clear. We were in the process of leaving anyway. This was around 4pm & the table wasn’t booked until 6:30pm. Our impression was that diners were welcome but casual visitors not so much.

Since we discovered the Ship a year ago, we’ve been at least once a month as a couple, with friends or with family. Everybody we have brought to the ship with us has loved it and also commented that the its hard to beat. It’s our go to now and if we ever can’t get a table for an evening out and go elsewhere we are always disappointed and wish we’d gone to the ship instead. The food never disappoints Thai, pub classics, Sunday roast and puddings. The food quality and flavour is always outstanding and there has never been any issues with allergies or intolerances or food orders being incorrect. The staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. If we bring our dogs they are always given a dog bed/blanket to put under the table and biscuits. The little courtyard out the back is lovely in the summer and the inside is cosy on colder days. We aren’t Christchurch locals and live a little while away, but will travel to come to the Ship and recommend it to any friends or family visiting the Christchurch/Bournemouth/New Forest area. We have come after a day at the beach before looking scruffy and not dressed in our finest and been welcomed in nonetheless something that you don’t always get in such a nice restaurant,

Is this a pub or a restaurant? We have been many times as locals, we took visiting friends for a drink and every table had a reserved sign on it we were told we could only use the table for 1/2 an hour after ordering drinks we had barely finished and were told that we had to move. They really needed to have a dedicated eating area where you can reserve tables only and an area where you can enjoy a drink if they are still a pub.

We visited The Ship three times in a week: the first and second for a drink; and after viewing plates of their food, the third occasion was to eat. Menu is a mix of Thai, Asian and British fare. The fish, pad Thai, chicken satay were great and my Thai hot Phad Nampridphao prawns was sensational. The Ship's staff are all welcoming and helpful, none better than Sunny who treated us so well.

Booked in person for table for 6 in window, was even told the table was ours for the whole evening. Arrived to find restaurant had seated another party of 8 at our table, and tried to put us at table for 4 with another chair stuck at the end ( no 4+1 still doesnt equal 6). Had agreed specifically on window table since it had view of tv on which rugby world cup semi was to be shown, so perfect for wifes birthday plus sons who wanted to watch rugby plus their girlfriends. We had cone from various parts of UK to meet up. I had explained all this to manager when booking, we agreed the booking specifically on this basis. He made some pathetic excuse but no doubt he binned us to get a few quid more from 2 extra people. So in the end he stuck another small table at end of ours ( shorter !) and only 2 of the 6 of us had an unobstructed view of rugby. Pathetic, unreliable, untrustworthy. Ruined a very important evening for us, Food was good, service patchy, but gave staff a decent tip and told them when they missed charging for a bottle of wine. We still spent more than the 8 they kicked us off for ! Dont trust them, very very poor attitude

Called in here on Monday the decor was fabulous and the place looked so inviting until we were placed at a table for 2 under a blaring speaker with loud music. I notice a previous review said the same. I asked if it could be turned turned down and was told no but offered a quieter table which was still too loud so we left. Most people like a conversation over a meal, its often more important than the food. In these covid times especially you do not need to shout to be heard. It encourages spittle and transference of the virus if you have it. You need backgroud music and ambience not a festival. Such a shame you wont keep customers like this no matter how the place looks. We had money and time to spend but spent it at a lovely little QUIET place further down the high street.

four of us had a booking on Saturday 24th October at 6.45pm first impressions we were amazed at how lovely the pub looked, we placed our order and the starters didn't take too long then the wait came! We didn't get served our main dishes until 8.40pm! It really isn't acceptable to have to wait that long..I was so upset as it was my sons birthday and we took his new girlfriend along and you can imagine how embarrassed we were it was so awkward..I was so upset as we wanted to make a special night of his birthday but plans had to be shelved because we were so long in the pub..if it was just myself and my husband we would have paid for our drinks and walked out..when I enquired about the wait they just said we are busy! That's not acceptable as they should be able to cope after all it's not a huge place and that's what they accommodate for, the amount of money we paid you do expect better service.

We visited to try out the relatively new Thai menu. On arrival, we were impressed by the recent refit and thought the décor was very stylish. Our party of three was initially seated at a table with only two seats. We were told that this was really for two not three !! In any event, the table was very near a speaker producing ridiculously loud pop music, entirely out of keeping with the feel of the place. Blaring Michael Jackson, at disco volumes, with Thai food. How silly ! We made it clear that we would need a much quieter table and were duly seated. We noticed during our meal that the music was turned down a bit, so presume that others had complained. We chose a selection of dishes and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Stylishly presented, tasty and of high quality. Impressive.Unfortunately, the very busy restaurant was woefully understaffed. Although the staff did there best and were perfectly pleasant and willing, they were simply rushed off their feet. This led, unsurprisingly, to several service issues eg wrong orders, delays, no cutlery, etc. The staff were not well-trained as restaurant wait staff and were more like family members helping out on a busy night, which I am sure they were not. This place seems to have the feel of a pub trying to be a restaurant. Food is great but not the service. As for that abominable music...

First time in a pub/restaurant since March so slightly anxious. Good booking service in advance with very nice lady. But on returning for our alloted time a different lady was on the door. She was a bit confused about the booking and what time it was and said the table wasn't ready. We waited outside hoping she'd come and get us but she didn't. We returned in front of her 10 minutes later and she literally didn't remember us! Eventually another lady showed us to our table - which hadn't been cleaned. The confused lady then came over to ask us what drinks we wanted. She was wearing her mask under her nose. I asked her why but said she had asthma and couldn't wear it. There was a big delay in food arriving - over 40 minutes. Food arrived via a different server who was also wearing his mask under his nose - probably to make a point unless he also had asthma - and was delicious. I didn't feel covid rules were in place. Food was lovely. But marred by Elvis Presley on a 3 hour loop. On the way back up high street we followed the confused lady server with asthma who hadn't beenwearing mask correctly. She was walking briskly while smoking. Possibly running away from ElvisGood food but not good service.

I actually am still in shock from the service I experienced last night. Dilatory does not even begin to explain it. Starting as soon as we arrived. I had a reservation and gave the lady my name. She looked at me blankly, looked at her sheet, looked at me again. With such a vague expression I thought she was going to say there had been a mix up and she couldn't see my booking. Instead she turned on her heel and said she would go clean our table. She arrived back and shows us to a table in clear vision and one she hadn't cleaned. By the by doesn't matter, no one had been sat there. Must note, there was two of us and we were seated on a ginormous table of six. Rather uncomfortable. I digress... We were seated, no menus given to us, no wine list nothing. Five or so minutes later said waitress/maître d wanders over, asks us if we'd like a drink. We ask to see a menu, 'oh well it's just to usual stuff'. Right. Um, ok well I would like wine, is there not a wine list? Oh yes there is.. doesn't proceed to go and get it. In the end we settle for a g&t to start and ask to see a wine list so we can order for our meal. We also ask to see a food menu... Eventually she returns with a food menu, no wine list yet. We proceed to order our food, and again ask for a wine list. It doesn't come. An hour passes, we are starving by this point. We had ordered prawn crackers to tide us over and even those hadn't arrived! Eventually I go up and ask the waitress/maître d if we could have our prawn crackers as we ordered them and we haven't had them, it's been an hour. Also could we see the wine list. She give a nonchalant response and wanders off. Prawn crackers return. Still no wine list... see there is a theme here! Eventually a more bubbly young waitress brings our starter and we ask her for the Wine List and she promptly returns with one! Over an hour and 5 requests later! They clear our starter, we order a glass of wine. At this point I was reluctant to even do that as I felt I didn't want to part with my money for this ridiculous experience. Had it not been for the difficulty of getting a table and just turning up at the moment I would have left within that first hour. Now for the main course. Which arrives courtesy of the chef/member of kitchen staff. Who was lovely! We were sharing our mains and he quickly went off and got some side plates and some serving spoons and we throughly enjoyed the food. What a difference. Meanwhile the music has got incredibly loud. The Beatles crooning and whaling at the top of their lungs. So much so two tables that have been seated next to us have asked to move. Finally the initial waitress/maître d clears our plates and wanders off. No offer of a dessert menu but by this point I'd given up and just wanted to leave. Suddenly the woman appears with our bill (we hadn't asked for it). Plants it on the table and tells us we have to leave in 20 mins as it's nearly 10pm. Now don't get me wrong I understand we need to all be out by 10pm and I respect that. But that manner to really capped off what had been just truly unbelievable service. I felt like we were in some comedy or something. The woman running front of house and serving our section clearly did not want to be there. Couldn't have cared less! Perhaps she doesn't usually work there and got roped in because someone was sick, I have no idea but I just find it so hard to understand how someone, of a certain age especially, has no clear clue how to work in hospitality. It was relatively busy in there but I really can't seen that continuing with service as poor as that. Shame as the food was pleasant. I won't be going back that's for sure and if you want an enjoyable and relaxing evening, I suggest you don't either.

We eventually got our table after a person sitting outside the pub was finally evicted from our prebooked reservation . After we received our drinks the music became noticeably louder so much so that there was no way my husband and i could have a conversation without shouting at each other. We asked our waitress, who was very accommodating if it would be possible to turn the music down a notch as it was making our night a very unpleasant experience. Unfortunately her boss did not have the same attitude. The boss/landlord refused, as a consequence we said that there is no way we are going to stay and order the meal in that environment. I work in Customer Experience and the Customer is always right so he has got a lot to learn. The next table along was right under the speaker and it was deafening to their whole party. This was a very unpleasant experience and we will not be going there again. There are covid 19 procedures in place but same how noise was not adhered to. We have been shielding so this was supposed to be a nice date night. If you think you are in comparison with the Rising Sun at Purewell you have got a lot to learn. My husband says no chance therefore we will not be visiting again.

Looking for somewhere for a spot of lunch on a cold wet day. Good service, great choice and the omelette was one of the best I have eaten. That and a couple of pints of well kept Doorbar made it a real treat. As on holiday this is not local but can’t wait to return.

This is a pub which serves good food (in my limited experience) and has good music. It is directly opposite The Regent Centre. On several occasions when I have organised to meet people in The Ship after a show, it has turned out to be closed - at around 9.30pm. This seems bad business - last night the Theatre auditorium was full, but at 9.45pm, when people were pouring out of the theatre, it was closed for business. Really annoying!! My group of 6 people can't have been the only ones wanting a drink and catch-up in there!

Been looking for a place to get a decent roast. Sadly the potatoes were just a bit lacking the mean was ok and veg were good. Portion for price pretty ok and taste was there. Just prefer my roasts to have crispy crackling roast pots but over all I was happier here than with most I tried!

Had a night away locally after Xmas before getting fully back into the rat race. We were looking for an "All under one roof" eveningxand this pub was perfect. We came for a drink in the afternoon and viewed the menu and specials. We knew the had a band coming in at 10pm, and booked our table. On returning for dinner at 8pm we were given a booth which was lively as felt great for intimate dining. I had fish cakes and my husband had stilton mushrooms on toast. I chose the light starter as was having mains, and I'm honest I preferred his starter as it was delicious. I had the pork belly for main which did not disappoint, and my husband had the beef bourgignon from specials. Both were nice size portions and delicious. We stayed for a number of drinks during the band, and even had a boogie. I would highly recommend this place as an all round great night out.

Been here many times, mainly for live music nights. On this occasion just for a quick drink with friends. Ordered 2 pints of Doom, 1 of HSB. The Doom did not clear and tasted slightly acidic. I returned to bar to request a change. Barman was dismissive "nothing wrong with that, what's up with you?" and asked the other bar assistant who awkwardly agreed with him. I refused to accept it and asked for a fresh pint. "what you want instead?" in an aggressive tone. He then charged me 80p for an alternate beer. Two people waiting to be served saw this poor service and said "Err, let's go somewhere else". The pub was pretty empty, unlike the other pubs in Christchurch. I think I know why.

I was shocked when I ordered the braised beef dinner about £15 and honestly there was NO meet but about a huge lump of fat yes no meet attached and when i complained the barman said it's the cut of meat??? There was no meat it was ALL FAT . I said I can't eat that so he eventually replaced it with the cheaper sliced beef£14 which was 3 very thin slices and didn't give me My £1 back.

Have regularly visited this pub for a beer and have always been impressed by the look of the food. However there were always different staff, some of whom were pretty poor. however we went in for a beer in May and it was being run by two more mature ladies, and did it make a difference. Out of curiosity we looked at a menu and saw that they had Omelette Arnold Bennett, which I hadn't seen for years, and it was lovely, as was my wife's Spanish omelette.

My wife and I had an enjoyable early evening meal at The Ship Inn before The Zoots 70's Concert. My wife had The Ship's Signature beef burger topped with bacon and cheese in a brioche bun plus portion of french fries and I had the Moules Mariniere - mussels with shallots, garlic, parsley, white wine, and cream, served with a fresh half crusty baguette and crisp french fries. Both main courses were delicious and an excellent meal prior to our Zoots concert at the Regent Theatre. Please make sure you book a table to avoid disappointment.

Very short review as we weren’t there long enough to appraise everything. Visited on Sunday for a much needed meal for three of us before a concert. Drawn in by the menu outside, It was 4.10pm, informed that the kitchen was only open till 4 but then chef appeared and offered Sunday roast as it was pretty much prepared and easily available. Delicious! Service here was totally faultless. A great experience to visit and one which I hope to repeat. Thank you.

A group of us went to the Ship for an evening meal,we had starters which were fine, but the main courses left something to be desired. Two of the group had pies, with crusts so hard they could not be cut, one had a burger which was totally bland and flavourless (I know, I sampled it) and I had a beef bouginion which contained more pork belly than beef. On complaining to the manager, we were met with apathy and certainly no apology. He was adamant there was only beef in the bouginion, but had to admit when faced with the evidence that it contained the pork. The staff then kept away from us, so instead of ordering more drinks and dessert, I went to settle the bill. There was no deduction offered so I said that I wouldn't be paying for the burger or the bouginion which the server accepted without argument.

My wife, baby with pushchair & I visited and upon walking into our closest local 50m away from where we live for the 2nd time, (1st time for drinks) we were instantly greeted with the smell of toilets, still surely they can improve? No greeting from owners/staff in an otherwise empty pub, the table directly in front of the street felt sticky, a sour faced older blonde woman who I can only presume is the owner strutted about collecting knives & fork buckets to refill visited our table but still no greeting, then came back with replacements still no acknowledgement. No table service so went to bar ordered drinks & payed for food beforehand, We ordered Spaghetti Bolognase £10.95 & Chicken Supreme £13.95, a reasonable time later the food arrived, food was tasty but extremely small child like portions, almost laughable, the bolognase managed to fit in a massive plate with tiny bowl in the middle, the chicken supreme had two tiny pieces of chicken, one of which had a large bone in, the potatoes that come with it was two salad size potatoes cut into 1cm by 1cm squares with a minute portion of green peas, which all fitted into one quarter size plate The staff didn’t visit to check if everything was ok like you would normally expect, we got up to leave still in an empty pub, no acknowledgement from anyone, or help while we struggled with the pushchair and door. We left feeling pretty annoyed and very hungry. This is our local and a deep shame as we won’t return, these lot have no understanding of customer service.

We walked into here for an evening meal and what a great choice. At the front of the pub are tables for drinking and order at the bar food but if you walk towards the rear of the pub there is what i can only describe as a gastro pub area where you are seated and table serviced. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent. Will definately be returning when we are back in the area soon.

My partner and I visited last night around 730pm. On arrival we were disgusted at the state of some customers, one was so drunk she was asleep at the table and the rest were argumentative. The staff were aware of this but did not act. Consequently the lady that was asleep then vomited all over the floor which the staff all just walked around and didn’t seem to take responsibility for clearing it up...we then left because it was disgusting. This place has clearly lost its class!

A great thanks to all at the Ship for hosting my father's wake. Over lunchtime we had the restaurant area and overflowed into the beer garden. Very good sandwiches, scotch eggs, spring rolls etc. followed by generous cakes - the carrot cake was especially appreciated. Paula liaised through the organising and shared the menu before hand, and kept account of the monies placed behind the bar. It all helped to turn a difficult day into a celebration of life.

For desserts we went for creme brulee and apple crumble - no complaints there. Service was efficient and friendly. We had booked for 1.30 and no problem that we had arrived early. Some options not available, but clearly very busy. Would give 5 stars but the loos let place down. Not sure how I’ve managed the last few months during the impromptu shut down of the coffee shop. I work nearby and send all my clients here for the best coffee and service in a clean and inviting atmosphere. I also use the cafe daily for my lunch time coffee and occasionally lunch or a snack; sometimes with friends or colleagues. All the staff in Waitrose Christchurch are wonderful but particularly Graham makes my day with his warm welcome, unrushed but efficient service and gorgeous soya lattes. The average age of resident in xchurch is 65 and it should not come as a surprise that any supermarket offering cafe services is a particular draw to our residents. Please don’t close down again!

Great Coffee shop. Great staff team and nothing is too much trouble. Very clean including the toilet facilities. Ample room and free parking outside. All produce of goods quality. Can be busy at times but worth the wait.. Even if you do not drink coffee. Update, new staff from last time, still as friendly and quick. This place could do with a self clear station.
