Visited Haven Cafe last Wednesday & what a disappointment…………………………Had arranged to meet other family members for crabbing at Mudeford. Thought would be authentic to have lunch that was likely sourced locally so went to the cafe. In total we were a party of 5 adults & 2 children. The large order included one child’s portion of fish chips (£8.95) and a fair portion was served but when the small adult scampi & chips (£11) arrived we couldn’t believe it, I so regret now not taking a photograph. Four pieces of scampi peas & less chips than on the child’s portion. We queried it with a member of staff who really wasn’t bothered and confirmed it was the correct size for the order. How the price can be justified I really don’t know. I spoke to a group of staff who throughout our time in the cafe had stood chatting at the till area, they appeared totally disinterested especially at my complaint. Asking to speak to someone about it, a different member of staff came to the table & was adamant that my portion size was a small adult portion of the 2 sizes - small/large on offer. Saying the adult would have had more chips. No way was there more chips, my portion was in general smaller than the child’s. How I wish I had taken that photo. I don’t know the position or seniority of the person who came to speak to me, there was no introduction. Just insistence that I’d been served the correct portion size. No apology or valid reason was offered for my disappointment. I regret now not ordering a child’s fish & chips I would definitely at least have felt I’d had a meal. I have to say two in our group had mussels which were amazing & thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately the whole experience was ruined by my “small”meal, eaten almost immediately before others’ meals had arrived. The others feeling guilty starting their’s as I had finished and not at all fulfilled. Our combined family group spent £100 in the cafe that lunchtime. Never again!!

Very impressed with hygiene behind the counter on my visit. Reasonably priced. We had cheese and relish sandwiches with chips and my husband had Cumberland sausage bap. The fish and chips looked good too. Friendly staff well worth a visit.

I called in the cafe after a long walk and saw that crab sandwiches were available. Being next to the sea I was expecting some really good fresh crab. I know that they were in a box, but for £7.50 just for 2 slices of bread I expected something of good quality. What I got was a very thin spreading of something that was no better than standard supermarket crab paste and a bit of lettuce on dry sliced bread. I was so disappointed that I hd wasted my money on this when I could have gone to eat somewhere else in the area where I could have enjoyed some good quality local seafood.

A Disappointing Experience at Haven Café: Rigid Rules Over Common Courtesy Recently visited Haven Café, and despite its name, it was anything but a "haven." My experience was marred by poor customer service and an inflexible adherence to policies that prioritize rules over customer comfort and basic decency. We arrived about10 minutes before opening time (9.30am Friday) on a cold, windy, and rainy morning, hoping to escape the miserable weather. We kindly asked if we could come inside, explaining that we were happy to wait quietly until the official opening time before placing any orders. To our surprise, the staff refused, insisting we stand outside in the cold. What made this situation even more frustrating was that they weren’t getting ready for the day—they were standing behind the counter, chatting. It wasn’t as if they were rushing to prepare the café for customers; they were simply ignoring the uncomfortable situation unfolding outside their door. A little flexibility or compassion for cold, paying customers is not too much to ask. It’s hard to comprehend how a café can be so rigid that they would let potential customers stand in the rain rather than offer them a bit of warmth and respite from the rain. The entire experience certainly made me question Haven Café's approach to customer service. (Note: We ultimatley disregarded the refusal to let us sit inside prior to opening. We went in and sat quielty as one of the party had recently recovered from sinusitus and we didnt need a relaps from the biting wind. Needless to say we were then served by very sulky and dismissive staff for the time we were there. The young man being the worst, calling me a vulgar derogetary term most unbecoming! ) We expected a welcoming atmosphere, but instead, we were met with indifference and a lack of basic hospitality. It’s a shame because a little kindness goes a long way, especially in the service industry. Sadly, Haven Café seems to have forgotten that. Steve... please have a word - as a long time manager of pub and cafe I think you understand the hospitatliy industry. The food was great - good size portion for the price. Coffee was nice. Cafe was clean and has a great view.

It took us more than 25 minutes to get our toast bread and the staff didn’t tell us a word whilst we waited standing near the counter. In the end we decided to cancel our order and leave. Had lunch here at the inn and couldn’t find fault. We visited sat 7th where my wife had the fish and chips with peas , she’s quite fussy on her pub food, but on this occasion she was very pleased. I had the ploughman’s lunch and was very happy to see a good chunk of coastal cheddar and a good chunk of blue vinney as well as three good slices of Wiltshire ham, absolutely delicious. I honestly don’t recognise the pub I visited from some of the reviews. On a dreadful wet weekend we enjoyed a couple of lunchtimes sheltering from the rain and enjoying good beer and hearty bar food. Incredibly warm welcome when we sampled each of the real ales on offer. First lunch I had a crab sandwich with chips, my only gripe there was no white meat, and the second a very filling steak and onion baguette. If we lived in the area it would be our local, a cut above other pubs in Christchurch and the surrounding area. It is small with limited seating so I can understand why children are not allowed in, but there is the cafe next door. Great to see well behaved canines.

We have made a regular trip for years, paddling to the Haven Inn for Crab Sandwich, chips and a pint. Pre covid it was a meal to look forward to. China plates, tasty sandwiches served with a side salad. Since covid things have deteriorated. I understand the need to use environmental takeaway packaging but last night what came out was very underwhelming. The crab sandwiches tasted like dried out bread with a thin smear of crab which was like a childhood fish paste from a jar. Again I appreciate costs have shot up but the meal was poor value and disappointing - not worth doing again

Just had lunch here and I must say I was very disappointed. I had ham egg and chips. Ham was very dry and the eggs were very overcooked (rubbery and hard yolk). Chips were ok 👍. My mom had fish and chips. The fish was dry and alot of batter to fish ratio. I think it had been cooked alot earlier, hence the dryness.

You can’t serve fish and chips as bad as that by the sea can you? It should be illegal. Tragically small portion of fish. Due to its lack of size fish was dry and over cooked. Because it was over cooked it tasted awful too. looked like they had halved the size of the fish to satisfy the quantity of orders on what would have been a busy day. Myself, wife and two kids all commented worst fish and chips we’ve ever had.

Situated at mudeford quay the location is great after a long day of visiting the beach and then crabbing at the sides of the quay. Visited the cafe part of the building and went with the traditional fish and chips with sausage and chips for the kids. Portion sizes are about right, all came out fresh and hot. Batter was crispy and chips had a good crunch with soft interior. Had to ask what fish was used as it isn't mentioned on the menu, was informed hake and it tasted very good, fresh. Today, we sat down at Haven House Inn for lunch to eat and drink. Before I could finish my glass of wine, it was spilled across the table by the staff. Like you would expect anywhere, I got up and asked if it could be replaced. The staff member acted as if he didn't understand me. When we asked again, he said he couldn't replace it. He gave responses like, "Does that seem reasonable?" and "Did I spill it?" He continued to respond with such offensive remarks. In most places around the world, if half a glass (175ml) of wine is spilled, it is replaced, or at least an answer is shares with a polite explanation like, "It's not our policy, unfortunately we can't help." However, such rude behavior is unacceptable. The staff member's name who communicated in this way was Steve. I kindly ask you to take appropriate action.

Firstly, we have frequently enjoyed a drink here in the past and decided to try lunch. We ordered 2 crab sandwiches and two portions of chips. The sandwiches cost £7.95 each and we were incredibly disappointed to receive the worst sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Cheap supermarket sliced bread, a limp piece of lettuce and the thinnest layer of crab paste (I wouldn’t even say it was fresh crab) that I have ever seen. The chips were dripping in grease and a small portion for £4.50. To top it off it was served in a takeaway bag and cardboard box- for the price I was expecting way more than this. The whole meal including three soft drinks cost nearly £40. I have never felt more ripped off in my whole life. Utterly terrible experience.

We come down every year on New Year’s Day around 14 of us with our little family’s. We always stop here for a New Year’s Day drink and spend a good amount considering there’s 7 who have 1-2 pints of Guinness and 2 bottles of Prosecco also. This year the weather was awful and the heavens opened, the cafe was full of people hiding from the rain and so we went into to pub with our 20 month old littles in our arms and was told to leave as children arnt allowed in the pub? Which I totally understand, however we clearly said it’s just to stay dry for a few mins with our little ones and we had already brought a fair amount of drink from the pub?? But were still asked to leave and go back out in the horrendous rain. I thought this was really really awful even after explaining our reasons.

I asked if they could wash one up and was told that it wasn’t his job to do this but the kitchens. I was gobsmacked by his response and replied seriously?. But then told me I was being rude to him and produced the clean cup from the kitchen, made the 4 coffees and then slammed them down on the work side and sarcastically said “enjoy!” I do not find this acceptable. I’d love to have been able to actually write a review about the food or service, but we didn’t even get through the door this morning. It was a terrible windy and wet morning due to the storms but wanting to make the most of our short visit to the area we walked up Avon beach to the Haven with the intention of having lunch with our kids, we were staying in the Hoburne caravan park. Our kids are 8 and 6, so after the walk they needed a rest, it was raining and very windy on the quayside so we were really disappointed to see the sign on the pub saying kids couldn’t come in, but we should try the cafe. The cafe had a sign on it saying we couldn’t take our dog in, there was no other option but to walk back down the beach with two very disappointed kids. Looked lovely, great location, but no good if you have kids and a dog (I can’t believe we are the first family like this!) Clearly we couldn’t sit outside due to the weather, the cafe had about 3 people in it. We didn’t go in and ask because we knew what the answer would be and the kids were cold so we got going again. Not really a complaint but would be nice if the signs explained a little more, and if exceptions could be made during inclement weather.

Most of the staff are excellent and we've always experienced good service. My review is based on the attitude of one member of staff and nothing else. The pub recently changed hands and it used to offer deals on drinks and food. We asked if the special drink offers were still available and were told they weren't as the new owner had to make a profit, which is totally understandable and acceptable. We purchased our drinks and sat down when the said member of staff came over and offered us a loyalty card based on a free drink or meal after so many purchases. This was great and we thanked him. As my wife had a double spirit with a mixer she made a "tongue in cheek" comment that she should have 3 stamps instead of one. Unfortunately the member of staff took issue with this as he thought we were being "funny" and asked us to give him back the loyalty cards. There was a bit of banter when we said no he couldn't have the cards back and he said he wanted them. We were joking but unfortunately he was serious. At first we thought he was joking but his face told a different story. We tried to assure him we were joking, but he obviously didn't see it that way. We asked if he was being serious to which he replied he was and he asked us to drink up and leave. I asked him if we were being banned to which he replied we were. I then gave him the loyalty cards and, to my surprise he then offered a refund if the £13.45 we'd paid. which I accepted. Having been in business for several years and having held senior management positions with several large retail companies I was astounded with the attitude and reaction. What some people don't realise is that regardless of what the business offers and how good the products and prices are, it's all about people and without customers the business doesn't have a future. I'm not suggesting that loosing our custom will have any impact on the business, but I hope the member of staff concerned reflects on the experience and decides to take a different approach if a similar situation occurs in the future. I wish the business well as it is a great place to visit but, in my opinion, it could be better if this member of staff chilled out a bit.

Came here for lunch with my wife, and must say the staff that served us were incredible! Think they were Sue and Jessie? Both dancing around, smiley faces, so happy to serve us. Clearly good at what they do! A huge asset to your team. The food was great, location lovely and all round good atmosphere. Will definitely be returning on our next holiday. Thanks guys!

Visited with family, primarily for a quick drink. It gets busy here & we were lucky enough to get a table. Cozy pub with a welcoming atmosphere, they even welcome dogs. Once seated decided to order a small scampi & chips and separate portion of chips. All were served promptly, very warm & very good. A good way to spend an hour & a half with drinks food & coffees.

We popped in on impulse as we were visiting Mudeford Quay. Only wanting a light lunch we ordered the egg mayonaisse and watercress sandwich and a side of chips. Service was quick and very efficient - even down to a little thing like the sauces and vinegar being delivered at the same time as the food, without having to be asked for. The food was superb - generouly filled sandwiches on bread that was so fresh - had it been any fresher it would have still been flour! So many places cannot cook chips really well, but these were perfect. Made from real potatoes and served hot, crisp and dry. Will certainly eat here again the next time we're visiting Mudeford,

Staying at the expensive hotel up the road which is lovely but needed a better value option for our evening meal. Ordered the fish and chips and the special chicken Balti curry. Both were excellent, ready in just a few minutes and we scoffed the lot. Great quality cod, crispy beer batter and very pleasant and efficient staff. Would certainly return

Why is service always so slow. Went in sept and queued for 40 mins just to place an order. Today it’s really quiet but they warn me there’s a 30 min wait for food. It’s also expensive.

We had a drink first and coffees after. All nicely presented. Staff polite, efficient snd friendly. It was busy too. Good vibes.

Hmm - I'm not a great fan of disposable eating gear all the time - the food came in cardboard boxes with wooden cutlery. I would expect a plate and a proper knife and fork for what was a full priced menu. Food was ok and there's a couple of beers on - but won't be rushing back

We used to often come to the Haven and enjoy the food with family and friends who visited us.( we are local) Sadly over time we noticed a decline in the quality of the food available and the attitude and attention of the staff employed. We visited today hoping things had improved. They have not. Rude staff who informed us “ the kitchen is closed’ with no further explanation. Obvious discord between staff members. Needing something to eat we purchased sandwiches in the adjoining cafe, also part of the Haven. A crab sandwich cost 7.95 the contents resembled crab paste, A prawn sandwich 6.95 more sauce than prawns. The owner informed us they serve 100 crab sandwiches a day and there is portion control. He also said staff sickness and the heat added to the difficulties they were experiencing. We will not be returning.

We sat at one of the numbered outside tables as we had a dog with us and dogs were not allowed inside the cafe. Most of the counter staff were very young and acted as if they would have rather been somewhere else. I ordered our food and drinks and saw that the girl was about to put our tea in cardboard takeaway cups so I asked her for proper cups and saucers. When our food came, it was delivered in takeaway bags at which point we left. Needless to say, we were not impressed.

Great pub on the quay at Mudeford. Fast friendly service, bar staff experienced, happy and helpful. Traditional English ales, available and good pub food, some vegetarian options. Wheelchair access and WC. Beer garden. A good choice venue for food and drinks on the quay. Recommended.

Lovely pub in good position. Crab sandwiches very were short on crab - very little filling for the price - over £7. Staff friendly

Staff where miserable and the crab and lettuce sandwich at £7.25 had more lettuce than crab have brought a better cheaper sandwich from a motorway service station. If your looking for a sandwich don't bother here. I see from replies for other reviews regarding crab sandwich and food inflation and I would have been happier paying £14.50 for two good egg sandwich instead of that price for two crab sandwiches with no crab.

Not sure how I’ve managed the last few months during the impromptu shut down of the coffee shop. I work nearby and send all my clients here for the best coffee and service in a clean and inviting atmosphere. I also use the cafe daily for my lunch time coffee and occasionally lunch or a snack; sometimes with friends or colleagues. All the staff in Waitrose Christchurch are wonderful but particularly Graham makes my day with his warm welcome, unrushed but efficient service and gorgeous soya lattes. The average age of resident in xchurch is 65 and it should not come as a surprise that any supermarket offering cafe services is a particular draw to our residents. Please don’t close down again!

Can’t stop thinking about the food which we had on Friday night. It was absolutely delicious. Defo my new place to go. The flavours were amazing and the service was great too. Shame they had no coffee left which would have finished the whole experience off nicely, but all in all we loved it and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Great Coffee shop. Great staff team and nothing is too much trouble. Very clean including the toilet facilities. Ample room and free parking outside. All produce of goods quality. Can be busy at times but worth the wait.. Even if you do not drink coffee. Update, new staff from last time, still as friendly and quick. This place could do with a self clear station. The staff work hard enough as it is.. Still a favourite..
