Great food, friendly staff great atmosphere.

Stayed on the motorhome site in town visited the Ship in for a lunch time drink and returned for dinner. Welcoming, warm, excellent food, brilliant staff and service. Thank you to Gary and Andrew who took the time to chat to us. We will return.

Great find, staff is lovely and very attentive, food is good and the beer is better.

What a lovely friendly welcoming pub. The food and service were exceptional. Would definitely recommend. And hopefully return again one day.

Don't get discouraged by the grayish exterior. Ship Inn is a spacious place with great food and vibes like it was run by a group of friends! Place is dog friendly and has a snooker table, large screens and huge space at the back for crowds wanting to watch football. We've ordered fish&chips, chicken kebab and some nachos and we would love to order more - sadly we've run out of space :} Come one, come all! Melrose's The Ship Inn is the place to go =^.^=

Amazing little find definitely be coming again

Visited twice while staying at Melrose, on both occasions the staff provided excellent service. Tonight we were most impressed as the staff cleaned behind the bar when it was quiet. However their attention to customer service never faltered. I was particularly impressed that the top shelf was thoroughly cleaned and then the bottles washed and dried before being returned! The food was good quality pub food, just what we wanted.

Really enjoyed this outing. Staff were very Attentive and the food choice was both varied and of a high standard. Happily return and will recommend to others... 😁👌

This is a brilliant pub,my wife and I went for a pub crawl in Melrose. The cheapest drink,pool table,warm and cosy,great staff,and even a great food menu.Brilliant. Well worth a visit.

The ship is one of the friendlyplace I have seen in a long time I am gluten free and thay could not be more helpful and give me so many choices loved it loved it loved it It's a place to go in Melrose

It was a short visit to the borders but a place I once Called home my son and I thought let's go for a drink and a game of pool not realising it would be one of the best days we have had together the manager and staff where outstanding helpful smiling and just being absolutely professional. Thanks Andy and his wonderful staff hopefully see you all soon.

Visiting friends from Nottingham and they booked this place having had great experiences before, was certainly not disappointed! The atmosphere from the moment you walked in was really friendly, lovely and warm. The food was superb! Would recommend to anyone

Just home from having a meal from the Christmas menu at the Ship Inn Melrose. It was absolutely amazing - huge portions of good quality food and the staff were so attentive. 10/10 in every area. Great atmosphere.

Nice small pub with lots of large tv screens giving a sports-bar feel. We popped in for lunch with our small dog. Staff were friendly and quick to serve. I had the Chicken kebabs which tasted nice and fresh as was the salad. The chips and extra portion of onion rings were pretty average tbh and tasted like you'd buy in any supermarket. Price was pretty decent too.

This is our favourite pub in Melrose. Lovely welcome from staff large outdoor seating area covered by marquee with plenty of patio heaters. Food looked great and clearly very popular, looks like booking is advisable if wanting a table for food during the weekend. I would highly recommend this bar.

always great atmosphere and good choice of drinks

This is our go to pub when we visit Melrose. This time we had an early dinner. Scampi was amazing fresh crispy but perfectly succulent and the Boarders Casserole was rich and full of flavour with fluffy pastry. Staff are relaxed friendly and attentive, that feeling that you are a well known regular.

The Ship was recommended by the receptionist at our hotel and we were not disappointed. From the outset we were made to feel welcome and the food was very reasonably priced and delicious. Portions were huge as well. Top marks to the chap who looked after us, and the lady behind the bar.

We both enjoyed our lunchtime meals.The food was good and service excellent. The ship is also dog friendly.

We have been to Melrose many times this is the first time in the pub and they made us feel very comfortable and welcome.the food was excellent 💯👍 and the drinks we're a very good price. 10 out of 10 . Will go again.

Very charming pub in the heart of Melrose right next to the city square. It's menu boasts with a lot of unusual food which you won't find in most city pubs like the magnificant Gammon Steak 😍 good choice of beers and ciders, very eager and nice waiters and that with modest prices!

First time customers and the friendly atmosphere is there, right at the start. Some places have "it" the moment you walk in. Food was of a high quality but we sort of expected that already. If you live in Melrose, lucky you.

Found the Ship on a weekend away in Melrose and now go every few months. Always made to feel so welcome by staff and regulars alike. Great atmosphere, superb food and friendly staff and locals. What else could you want

Recently renovated pub in the heart of Melrose. Great to grab a pint and watch the rugby in their outdoor seating area.

What a great pub - which is way bigger than you expect when you walk in off the street. Very much orientated to entertainment and sport lovers from what I saw with plenty of large tables/berths and a TV at each of them showing live sport. As the inside area was busy we ended up out the back which looked like a converted beer garden - it was chucking down with rain but the sheeting over the rook kept it out for the most part (could do with being improved a little though as rain was still coming in and soaking some of the seating areas - also had us worried with it dripping so close to electrics). But that is the only reason I havent given 5 stars. The service was good, the food was tasty and the price was decent too. The toilets could maybe do with an upgrade (quite small for such an expansive/busy pub) but would definitely go back and would fast become my local if I lived in the area.

We had pizza and it was delicious, staff are friendly and make you feel like a regular, priced good and it’s pet friendly too

Great staff, food and atmosphere

Basically a great pub with lovely, efficient and friendly staff. However, front of how is let down by the inconsistent meals from the kitchen. We visited twice on holiday. First time we both had a lovely meal and therefore decided to visit again to sample something different. Neither meals were enjoyable. My partners beef casserole and chips were only lukewarm and most of the chips were crispy end pieces and not edible. My macaroni cheese was actually penned pasta and the sauce lacked cheese flavouring. A waste of money and we won't return.

The staff here are all young and extremely polite and helpful. The service was excellent and the meals were superb. We visited every evening for our meals and drinks. The prices were reasonable. I also visited every morning for a few pints of beer. We sat at table nineteen in the garden as there was no TV. at this one. The garden area was called “The Olive Garden” and was divided into booths each with an individual TV. This is a very busy pub so reservations should be made. It is in the centre of Melrose within walking distance of the Abbey.

Standard menu but done very well indeed. We had quality burgers and a proper pizza. And I have a dark side for burgers and pizza!

Excellent customer service as you enter the Inn. Staff friendly and welcoming. The menu is extensive and the food was delicious. The homemade soup was fabulous.

We went to the ship inn for my son's birthday. On arrival the staff informed us that they didn't have our booking which was disappointing. The staff apologised and came up with the solution of us eating outside in the covered outside seating. I pointed out that it wasn't the warmest day to sit out, so the barstaff immediately found blankets for the colder members of our party and sat us near a heater. They came later to offer us inside seats but we declined as we were quite comfortable. The food was good wholesome home made dishes, the portion sizes were large. Everyone in our party were very happy with the service supplied at the ship inn. I'd like to add that the staff were excellent, polite, professional and a credit to the establishment. Well done to them all

This simply isn’t an “okay” chicken curry as one would have you believe - it’s an exceptional chicken curry 👌

Visiting the area, six of us called in for an early supper, staff were very welcoming and food excellent, we all had something different and all meals faultless, will be sure to call in again next time we are passing.

I can whole hearty say this is one of the best places I've been for food, quality service and brilliant atmosphere. This dog friendly pub could not do enough to cater to me and my dogs. We had a meeting of dog trainers locally and they we're absolutely fine with more than one dog joining our table and even took the time to ask about the dogs. The staff are lovely, they take the time to make sure your ok and the food is good. Even at busy times they let us know ETA on food and always with a genuine smile. The food was fantastic, great portion sizes and large menu to choose from for pub classics and some modern twists. I'll 100% be back again next year.

We went for lunch today at the ship, the atmosphere is lovely, the staff all seem to genuinely enjoy there work and are super friendly and welcoming to anyone and everyone who walks through the door. They were attentive and the food was very nice, arrived quite quickly and good value for money....... the star of the show however were the dough fingers with Nutella, they did take a while to come as I think the waitress had forgot about us but she was instantly forgiven when they came out, they were huge and gorgeous, I was offered a takeaway box which I accepted as we just couldn't eat them all. Great value for money. We would recommend the ship Inn to anyone who wants great food with a dollop of feel good atmosphere and a smidge of lovely customer service. Makes a difference.... well done

I like coming here with my family & friends for lunch or dinner as its an amazing place so friendly & the staff are so helpful, kind & patient. I was on holiday seeing my family who live in Melrose & we came with a friend & her son for lunch , we had light lunch eg sandwiches & wraps which were very filling & prices are very reasonable too. If coming with more than 3 then best to book. Love the seating outside with the flowers & tvs.

This place is fabulous, great atmosphere, lovely staff, great prices, music very much to our liking, would recommend to anyone having a day in Melrose. We did try a few places but came back here.

This was our first visit to Melrose and first time in the Ship Inn, we will definitely be back. The food and the choice was excellent and also at a very reasonable price. The staff were very attentive and polite. I can definitely recommend this place.

Absolutely delightful place to eat, very immaculate, the service was fantastic as soon as we ( My Nephew & I ) entered The Ship Inn we were guided to our pre booked table where everything was to hand. On giving drinks orders ( delivered immediately ) to food order which took around 10 minutes as everything was cooked to order, we were asked several times if we were okay & if they could do anything more for us. When the food arrived it was piping hot & tasted beautiful, I had Chicken Sweet Chilli Wrap with Homemade Chips & Coleslaw with Salad, my Nephew had Club Sandwich, it was in no way expensive for what we had & with it being home cooked, I couldn't thank the staff enough for their kindness, the toilets were immaculately clean. I go out every few weeks with my Nephew & can't wait to go back to The Ship Inn if I could score more than 5***** I would do so as its well deserved, the staff work very hard, food is fantastic & spotless you couldn't ask for more

We had a nice surprise here. The beer was brilliant - Greene King Ice Breaker. We stopped in for a quick beer after a rainy walk and liked the beer and music so went back later for more beer and food. Good choice from the menu and huge portions. Food was really good and staff incredibly friendly. Only hiccup was a couple of oblivious owners who came with a barking dog and sat at the bar near to our reserved table - its a dog-friendly pub with large covered beer garden.

A very nice pub with billiards, live TV, delicious food, very friendly staff and good value for money. The ideal place to come into contact with locals. Very tasty, definitely try it yourself.

Lovely food, good value, nice staff

Popped in for the first time today for some lunch and really enjoyed the occasion. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. We got the soup of the day ( mushroom) and haggis bites they were both really tasty and quickly served to us . Nice pint of Tennents lager to wash it down. Will definitely be back and would recommend it if your in Melrose. They do OAP portions as well as kids portions,so really well suited for everyone.

Good menu which catered for OAP's. Decking area out the back was still to be completed, was a suntrap but umbrellas provided for shade.

A lovely pub and beer garden. Food was very good. And important to me, dog friendly, Barney the alsation got looked after first with the lassie serving us giving him a treat and a bowl of water. Highly recommended.

The bar staff were non attentive, self obsessed and ignored returning customers….by that I mean between drinks? Go figure that one out! Gary thought he ruled the world ……. Full of his own self importance.

Went today for sunday lunch ..was informed it would be 20min wait ..that was fine so sat at a table waiting to be served...twice i asked for menu. after 30mins i was given menu ...no one returned to take order. I asked at bar to place order and was told table service only..After 55mins the waitress who already said she didnt take orders came to take order..no roast dinner left ...the family of 4 who came in 20min after us were sitting eating there meal ..while we were still waiting to place our order..we are local people who use this pub often..i was really disappointed in the sevice today ...oh this is not the first time this has happened...the food itself is very good ..service really poor hence the one star. Still managed to spend over £10 on drinks waiting for a service that was not provided.

Visited here while staying at the nearby camping site. Enjoyed a drink in the beer garden and it was good that heaters were available when it turned cooler. We also visited a second evening for food. We felt The Ship Inn offered good value for mone and the food was enjoyable. Despite being busy all the staff were friendly and efficient.

The food was good. The casserole and the dirty fries were food. But I have to say, things could've been really improved with quicker service. We waited half an hour for our food and it was just slightly too long.... Service staff themselves were very very friendly and you can tell the locals love it. But i do have to knock a couple of stars off for the long wait unfortunately.

Having phoned ahead to check availability, we were told it would be fine to come along without a reservation. My wife and I and our two boys chose a vacant table in the beer garden as it was a warm sunny day and we were thirsty and hungry after walking around Melrose all day. Our table was cleared of the previous customer's plates and glasses but not their dirty ashtray. Unfortunately that was the last time we saw our waitress as 25 minutes later, our drinks order still hadn't been taken. I eventually went into the bar as a last resort as we were desperate for a cold drink but gave up after being ignored for 10 minutes. The bar wasn't especially busy and I was stood right at it. Meanwhile my wife had been told by another waitress out in the beer garden that no further food orders were being taken for at least 25 minutes. We left and went to a nearby alternative, where we received a 'royal' welcome with open 'arms'...

Nice beer garden, fast and very nice service.

Had a pleasant lunch but spoiled by workmen drilling whilst we were eating . It was unfortunate as we couldn't always talk as the noise they made drowned out our conversation sometimes. Service was rather slow but the staff were very nice. Coffee was delicious if a bit cool.

Very nice pub all in all but the guy behind the bar looked majorly off his head twitching and kept sniffing up I'm OK with that but the clientele of the pub probably won't be haaaaa
