A great location and great pub. The pub retains character whilst the restaurant extension is excellent especially the view from upstairs. Food and service excellent. Young waiting staff but quietly efficient. All went well despite being very busy. Food was excellent and afterwards we returned to the bar for a chat with locals.

This was a fantastic visit for Sunday lunch . We booked a table upstairs and had a warm welcome . The lunch was superb ( I was a tiny bit disappointed that the cauliflower cheese had run out but it didn’t matter ) , the chicken was so tasty and the vegetables and accompaniments were superb. The wine was reasonably priced and very good and the lager was cold and hit the spot for my husband . The waiting staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble . We will definitely be back ( wish we had gone there Saturday night too as our visit to the other Ship Inn in Tresaith was absolutely terrible ) . Thank you again for fabulous food and service . My wife and I headed to the Ship Inn Bar and Grill for our dinner on our first night staying in Aberporth. We were assigned a table with a view out to the small beach - the dual aspect windows created an airy feel and the tables were well spaced to further enhance the mellow atmosphere. Our server wasn’t very aware of the drinks available - wine prices were only provided for bottles rather than by the glass. I had a rump steak with the usual accompaniments and my wife had a mariner’s pot pie. My steak was fine although I left almost half the chips - way too many. The mariner’s pie was very salty for my wife’s tastes. We considered desserts but it was taking too long and the choices were not particularly appealing so we skipped them. When we dined at this restaurant there were just two servers who battled gamely, but not always successfully to keep up with taking orders and bringing out drinks and food. Bizarrely, it was considerably cheaper to have wine by the glass rather than by the bottle. This may have been due to the lack of a ‘by the glass’ tariff. Soft drinks were very well priced - nowhere near the extortionate mark up normally found in restaurants.

We had dinner upstairs, our table facing the beautiful view of the beach from the upstairs dining room table. Tasty food, the starters of Prawn Cocktail and Thai fish cake were fresh and tasty. Prawns delicious! For mains, we had the slow cooked beef curry which was tender and spicy and the sea bass. Both very good portions, The,sea bass was plentiful and tasty, fried in the pan with added samphire and potatoes. Delicious! We had the warm chocolate brownie for dessert with coffee even though we were full! The staff was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We had our coffee on the balcony overseeing the view. What a lovely evening! Thank you!

Bit of a curates egg to be honest. Went here on the 13th June and it was very good, friendly, efficient service (Have to say the waitress was brilliant) and the food was good. So, a 5 star. Booked for the last night of our holiday on 20th June and all good until the pudding which we loved first time round. The sticky toffee was different from the week before and also cold. We did complain to the waitress and also at the bar when paying but there was an indifference. Also, although it was only just after 8.30pm, it seemed that there was a pressure on us as the kitchen wanted to close up ASAP for coffees etc. So, book earlier is my advice. But there you go, holiday makers unlikely to return often, I get it. My only other gripe was the booking system used, especially for repeat bookings (it actually got harder and more time consuming to book again!). I did try to, in words, to a person behind the bar when we went in for a drink, but was told to do it online. Sounds like a moan but I am trying to give constructive feedback and the overall experience was positive. I would go back again, for sure, just a couple of little things to stop it being a 5.

First of all, the Ribeye Steak was beautifully cooked, tender, and very tasty. The view from the upper floor part of the restaurant was amazing. Unfortunately, hower I felt the service was slower than I'd have expected from the number of people I could see in the venue at the time... (one other couple who had already ordered)... around 15/20 minutes from being seated to taking our order. It didn't ruin the meal obviously, but it was lacking attention to customers considering the price point.

Myself and my wife along with our 2 dogs gave the ship a try last night. Really easy booking system that allowed us to add our dogs so we would be seated in the dog friendly downstairs area. My wife was really pleased with the vegetarian options available and went for the Tuscan gnocchi, she said it was very tasty and different to the usual repetitive veggie options in other pubs and restaurants. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfect and tasted great. Service was good and all the staff are very friendly and happy to help.

My wife and I booked a table in the upstairs restaurant for 7pm at The Ship Bar and Restaurant. We were one of two couples at this point, with the other couple leaving approximately half an hour later. We enjoyed the starter and main course which we finished at approximately 8.15. We had decided that we probably would not have a dessert when the waitress approached us. However I did notice that the kitchen lights had been switched off when she asked the question. I did ask for a coffee which she went to the kitchen to order, however she returned immediately and said I couldn’t have a coffee as the machine had been switched off. It is usual surely for customers to have completely finished eating before the kitchen is closed down . I suspect that if we wanted desserts we wouldn’t have got them. As this is the only pub/restaurant in the village we booked to eat at the Ship the following evening. When I spoke to the manager/landlady to cancel the next reservation based on today’s poor experience, she offered a very insincere apology and clearly did not care about our poor experience, or the fact she had lost the following days booking. We live in financially challenging times and no business can afford to treat people in this way. We were made to feel like we were an inconvenience. We spent £70 this evening on two courses and would have spent at least the same again on the following evenings meal. This is the fourth time we have visited the area in the last four years, and probably will again, however, we will not eat at the Ship again. The landlady needs to understand that poor service is not acceptable. If she wanted to close the restaurant early she should have not accepted the 7 o’clock booking. With all this in mind I cannot recommend The Ship at Aberporth.

We arrived here at around 5:30 and the restaurant was empty and appeared to be closed. So we went into the adjacent pub to see if they were doing food. We discovered that the pub and restaurant were the same place, and the restaurant didn't start serving food until 6pm, which was fine, so we sat down to have a drink. The pub itself is tiny, with only a few tables - but it was welcoming, warm and the staff very friendly. At around 6pm we went through to our table in the restaurant - which is a total contrast from the pub. It is glass walled so that guests can experience the spectacular views of the beach and cliffs, open, spacious and very bright. The food was outstanding, very well presented and arrived very fast and piping hot. It was the most satisfying experience eating whilst enjoying the landscapes in the comfort and warm (we did visit on a very blustery day). Staff were lovely, attentive and happy to chat about the local area.

Had a lovely evening eating here in the bar as a family. Food was delicious with each of us choosing something different from the menu. I would rather a place do well what it offers than have more choice and do it half-heartedly. There is something on the menu for all tastes and for us the steaks were perfect, the fish delicious and the curry tasty. It would be all too easy for a place like this to rest on its laurels with a captive audience in Aberporth but not only was the food delicious but all the staff were warm and friendly. So a definite recommend from us if you find yourself in the area.

Lovely pub food. We went twice during our stay in Aberporth. The first time we both had the rump steaks which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The second time opted for the curries which were also tasty. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and has friendly staff. A point to consider when booking, is that if you sit downstairs near the dessert counter it can become noisy when coffees are being made. Next time we'll opt to sit upstairs.

Spent a few days in Aberporth and ate at The Ship on two of those evenings. Food lovely, good size portions and value for money. They seem to be busy most evenings, so glad we booked. Thursday evening was busy so we did have to wait about 40 mins from ordering to receiving our food, worth the wait though. Good with allergies, I didn’t have to say as they asked when taking our order, thank you.

The food and service is excellent in the Ship. The lobster was sensational and obviously very fresh. All in all a wonderful experience. All the starters and main courses were top quality, coupled with polite, efficient staff. One very small negative, an email confirming our booking, requesting the table to be vacated 90 minutes after our reservation time, not enough for 3 courses. I would say 2 hours is more reasonable. But again, food and service was exceptional.

Good food, ordered steak to be safe, but the starters were great so nothing to worry about. No kids menu, but ok, that’s not the worse thing. Ordered 4 fillet steaks and a adult burger for my 8 year old. 1st waitress was nice but totally untrained! Plonked cutlery down at the end of the table from a dirty tray and had to get attention for any additional drinks from anyone. Also had to open own bottle of Prosecco and chase for glasses to drink it in. At £28 a main course I would have thought a bit more attention would have been good. What ruined it was, towards the end, asked for napkins for ice cream and was met by rolled eyes of one of the waitresses. It seemed like a huge chore. When we went to pay our bill of £225 was met with the same arrogant waitress who said very patronisingly... ARE YOU HAPPY?!!! I always tip 10% but did not want to as felt extremely unwelcome and at 9.30pm they couldn’t wait to get shot of us. Also saw a group of 4 nice drinkers come in at 9.30pm who were abruptly turned away. No manager in site throughout the whole evening. My advice, whoever owns this restaurant needs to spend some solid time here, train the staff and ensure no one is treated this way after spending a good amount of money and just want to be served with a welcoming manner. I have 4 nights left here on my hols and would have gladly come back repeatedly for the food if this place was a bit more welcoming and had better service. Gorgeous location let down by no care for customers... real shame!

My wife and I searched out a fish restaurant for our evening meal. Aberporth looked great online and the Ship had a number of fish dishes on the menu. We planned to order Sea Bass fillets. However, all fish dishes were off the menu. We ordered Sirloin steak. My starter, vegetable fritters were over cooked and dry. My wifes Mackrel pate was stiff, tasteless and dry. The steaks came after half an hour. The steaks were passable but the whole meal presentation was terrible with far too many chips and limp salad. The beer list was lamentable with no real or craft ales on sale. The tables were canteen style and frankly the view of the Aberporth seascape didn't make up for the bad experience. We were asked if 'everything was ok with our meals' and we explained that we had come for fish and not enjoyed the steaks. We ate no more than a quarter of our meals. Still no discount was offered and the two courses with a drink each cost us £80. The most expensive meal so far on our Welsh road trip and the worst quality.

Great food enjoyed whilst sat on upstairs outside terrace overlooking the beautiful sea view. Due to chilly evening air we were given fleecy blankets to keep warm. We both had Sea Bass which was delicious and had a good selection of local cheeses on the cheeseboard. The food and drink prices were reasonable for the quality and presentation.

Group of 4 arrived waited to seated. Taken to table with only 3 chairs so had search for spare. We waited and waited to be served. Could see new arrivals being serve before us so thought walk into bar place order. Waited while for staff to acknowledge I’m standing there. Told someone will come to your table to take order. Again waited and waited to be served. Again new arrivals being served before us. Best part was leaving!

We really enjoyed to food. The location is great as the upstairs seating overlooks Aberporth beach. The staff were very attentive. Although it tries to be a gastro pub, at the end of the day it is still a pub and we feel the food portion has to correspond - something it could do to improve.

You know sometimes you go somewhere for food and it’s good, so you want to go again? This is one of those places! We were staying in a pod alongside the beach and booked a table for my husbands birthday. The food and service were so great we wanted to go again the second night but no tables were available. I messaged them on facebook and Oli kindly kept us in mind for if a table opened up for the next night, which it did! Thank you Oli! My hubby had steak and prawns for his starter and sea bass for his main course. He said the piece of starter steak melted in his mouth, it was so good! I had tempura prawns with a zingy citrus mayo for start and scampi for main. Both delicious! The next night my hubby had beef curry and I had the fish burger. I think i’ll be dreaming about eating that burger for a long time! Tasted AMAZING!! Neither night we had room for dessert. Prices were fine by us; perhaps a little more expensive than at home but you’re by the sea, eating fresh fish; What more could you want?! Loved it! Service was lovely, food was yummy and we’re so thankful we could get in two nights! If you’re thinking of going, book your tables! We’ll be back!

We had a table upstairs overlooking the beach (need to reserve well ahead), and on a glorious summer evening, the view was absolutely stunning. My lobster dinner was perfect, and the memory of this meal will stay with me for a long time. The staff were brilliant too. Definitely hope to return one day.

Went for a family meal and sat upstairs with wonderful views, we even saw the dolphins, which was a pleasure. The food was delicious, my son had steak and said it was the best he had ever had. Lovely friendly staff. This bar is a must when visiting Aberporth.

Went on last night of our holiday, really looking forward to local sea food. Unfortunately lobster and sea bass, the primary reason for booking there, were unavailable. My mother decided on a light bite of chicken gougons with potatoes. We ordered a curry each. My mothers was cold, with the plate freezing. They asked us whether everything was ok with the meal, and we told them that the plate, therefore the food was too cold, but was advised that we had ordered a child’s meal which had to be served on a cold plate in order that they “child” didn’t burn themselves. We told them that they could see that my 87 year old mother was obviously not a child, but was told that this was the pubs policy. Our curries , although tasty, were inadequate and vastly overpriced. We had half chips, half rice, and the chips were cold and obviously oven chips, with the poppadom cold and like concrete, with no pickles or ratia to accompany it. My husband asked to talk to someone about the quality of the food, but was told that no one was available. However, when someone did come to discuss our issues with him, he was told that he had insulted the waitress (untrue, he is no Victor Meldrew) and asked to leave the pub because of our attitude. My mother was quite distressed with it all. We were extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with our experience, and would strongly recommended that you try the Ship Inn in Tresaith. Avoid the Ship Inn in Aberporth if you want good service and food!!

Booked in advance and unfortunately got the view of the wall.Waitress did not know what the cider was even though it was on their menu. No ice offered or supplied with the same. 4 of us wanted the Sea Bass however was sold out so had to settle for Scampi. Maybe helpful to order your food at the time of booking which ensures they have sufficient been as booked days before going.Food wait wasn't too bad but was cold. Chips cold scampi cold but so hungry so had to eat it and worried go over 2hr time slot if it was sent back. Mens toilets not themost hygenic either considering all the fuss about hygiene with COVID.Over priced. Over rated. Will stick with the food at the bar in Helyg Fach Caravan Site in future.

We booked a meal early evening on the upstairs balcony. The Landlord was extremely welcoming and the Pub felt COVID secure. The food and drink was very good and the service was excellent. The Landlord even arranged for the dolphins to pass by. I would definitely recommend.

Stopped here for lunch and was very pleased with the hospitality of the staff. Never had a mackerel goujon burger before but very tasty. Didn’t have to book for lunch on a Sunday but was told that evening meals were fully booked for weeks. The beach is very picturesque and dog friendly.

My hotel wasn’t serving dinner so recommended this place to me and to book. I went on their website. Not possible to book tables for 1 or 6+ online, please ring. Whenever I rang I got a recorded message telling me to book online…I went back to my hotel but they were unable/unwilling to help.I messaged the Ship on Facebook. Advised to book a table for 2 and put in special requirements only for one. This did the trick.Arrived at 7:55 for my 8:00 reservation. Obeyed the instruction on blackboard outside to wait here (underlined). I could see plenty of staff inside serving and clearing tables but nobody came for 10 minutes.Shown to my table. Waited another 20 minutes to order. My starter arrived before my drink. Tiny portion of prawn & crayfish cocktail for £7 but just glad of something to eat. My drink eventually turned up too.Main course dressed crab salad was more satisfying. Lovely view from upstairs. Just not a very enjoyable experience.

We had an evening meal at The Ship Inn on our first night in Aberporth . Fortunately we had booked well ahead as its so busy and there are no other eating places in Aberporth. The meal was very nice but the service was slow and we couldn't have the starter we had chosen. We tried to have lunch there again another day but couldn't get in as we hadn't booked.Aberporth is beautiful but there are very few facilities, particularly places to eat.

Quite simply the worst food in living memory. Paid £28 pound for a mixed grill and they forgot the steak and the egg, also no steak knife. Had to eat it as I hadn’t eaten all day.

Went there for Sunday carvery, what a great spread. There is all the variety would expect and all were cooked to an excellent standard. It is possible to go back for seconds should you wish. Great value as well for 2 or 3 courses (3 would be too much for most) On top of this the view is spectacular and the service is professional. Will be returning.
