My pub of choice every time! Staff & fellow patrons are lovely. Good deals on drinks before 7pm, and with a variety of DJ’s playing on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays - perfect place for a night out (especially if you’re into alternative music) + DOG FRIENDLY!!

Why this pub always smells so weird like mold and pee

I moved away in the last couple years and previously spent every weekend here for a few years… I still think about it all the time. Amazing people, fantastic music you won’t get anywhere else in Croydon especially, and wonderful memories. Will forever hold a place in my heart. Maybe I’ll be back when I’m old and grey. ❤️

We came in on a Saturday night and were immediately questioned about placing a seat which was impeding a fire route. Yes it was blocking a route but could have been handled better rather than being jumped on by the staff who showed no understanding and rather showed their dismay with no remorse. We felt like we were not welcome. If you are a stranger then avoid this place.

A big disappointment, and unsure how this place can survive much longer, apart from being a bit indie in attitude. This was once a live music venue, and now its just dire. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff. No food options. Better go to the Green Dragon across the road for a busier, more atmospheric and friendly experience, where they actually care about their customers not just stand around scratching their tattoos and face piercings or staring at their phones whilst avoiding serving thirsty customers.

A little disappointing. Is my new local so was hoping for a friendlier experience but having got a glass with lipstick marks on the pint glass I respectfully asked if I could have another. I wasn’t even fussed about a new pint. Just a glass. Slammed down on the bar and no acknowledgment or apology topped off with an eye roll from the female staff member. Such a shame. I’ve walked past and seemed like a nice place. Edit. I went back again after the owner comment. There was one friendly staff member but the rest were hanging around chatting and ignoring me. Last orders were called and I was told they weren’t serving but after that several people were served for another 15mins. I guess my face didn’t fit despite simply sitting quietly with one drink in the corner. I won’t go back to a place that treats me like that. Cliquey. Not a friendly local at all like the other local pubs.

This place is great especially if you're a metal head. Really good even if you're not, the landlord is a gent and the clientel are friendly

Well, there is no misinterpreting this place - they like their music, they like it hard and they like it loud! In contrast to this, we went in on an early Saturday afternoon and there were only a few others in there, but the music playing, whilst not too loud, was in fact the music just mentioned. I had a great chat with the bar staff and a couple of the locals as I am of an age with long hair and a beard that people would think I am of their ilk (in answer yes, but not all the time). I was assured that they still play hard and often have bend nights here. Great place and inordinate amount of room to move about in. The Guinness was excellent as was the Hobgoblin Gold.

I had a great time, glad it's still a rock pub at heart. Could have been a little cleaner, which I'm not too precious about, but others might be. Prices felt a little steep, but they do everywhere now.

One of my favourite places in England!! Proper little rock pub with plenty of good beer and great tunes. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Food is no longer available and hasn't been for years so I'm unsure on why Google is asking me.

Female bar lady started attacking me as I sat on an unaccompied bar stool. Previous patron confirmed the seat was empty and did not enter a contract of agreement with said seat. I will not be coming back. My friend who has special needs was very upset

Old fashioned spit'n'sawdust traditional boozer specialising in hard rock and heavy metal. Nanny might not like it... but who cares!

I remembered this pub from when I was at college. Not the same now, sort of heavy metal, Emo, grunge atmosphere in the evening. Very odd. Beer ok.

Looks like a good metal pub. Extensive floor are and I assume there is live music here. Looks great.

The Ship has recently been taken over by a lovely couple who are very welcoming. A good wine list. If you like a smooth red wine try the Australian Shiraz. Very popular. The open fire is lovely as well as a log burner in the bar. I understand they are going to be doing food in the near future.

Best pub in Croydon, one of the best in London for alternative music. Metal nights with Dan and DJ Wolfman are the best 👌 wish they still did live music but I hear they might start this again soon. Love the staff and punters too 10/10 A+++++ Having seen some of the reviews about racial profiling or racism, I have to say I am mixed race and have been coming to the ship for 14 years and have never experienced anything but welcome from the staff and other people there. It is a lovely alternative pub and one of very few where the music is actually enjoyable. Nothing but love here.

Racial profiling.... if you are black, please don't go! I had a mixed experience at the Ship Croydon Pub. The service was okay, and the atmosphere was lively. However, I must express my disappointment with a particular female worker with red hair. Our group consisted of individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, all in our mid-30s, mature, we were simply looking for a pleasant social drink in a rock pub. There was an employee that seemed to unwarrantedly monitor our group from the bar, constantly looking, gesturing our way and making us feel uncomfortable. When we noticed and started discussing it within our party, she became aggressive, came over to our table and began actually shouting at us! We were taken aback as we hadn't been confrontational in any way. While the place has the potential to be wonderful, it gave off the impression of being more of a social club for the staff, with smoking and drinking with regulars, rather than a place of business. It appears that the staff prioritise those they know, and new customers are treated as if they are unwelcomed. If you're looking for a comfortable night out or don't know someone who works there, I'd strongly advise against visiting. P.S. In later checking the previous reviews on here I can now see that this is a common occurrence in this place. I wish I read the reviews before going. Never felt so uncomfortable being a black person in any place in London before. It's a shame. This place had real potential.

Came in with a friend for the first time. Pub wasn't busy yet the woman behind the bar seemed annoyed with us ordering. When we asked to pay separately she muttered under her breath "well why did you order together then" (not that quietly). I'd understand the annoyance if the pub was busy but there were no more than 3 cusomers. Slammed the card machine down in front of us both and generally had an aggressive/annoyed attitude toward us. We were both polite and thanked her but did not stay for another drink. Just unnecessarily rude for no reason

This was the pub to go to for the greatest night out. It had all the characters, the humour, the ambience, friendly bartenders, the best beers. I loved this place. Was here most nights for 10 years in a row back in the late 70s early 80s, before I moved away. If I ever wrote a biography, this place would gets its own chapter. Legend.

This place is a delight Not only is the clients and the staff so friendly It's a safe space for everyone as well I put on a show here after it was highly recommended and everyone adores the owners and the staff Felt like a second home and over 60 people agree with me after yesterday, big massive Thankyou to Jackie and mark the doorman and all the staff, and thanks for showing us all the best time

I love this place. And having read a recent review I couldn't possibly disagree more. The staff member did not raise their voice. My table was directly next to them and could hear the exchange. The crowd of the ship, especially staff and regulars have always been welcoming to any newcomer, regardless of race or sexual orientation. The staff have a friendly vibe with those who attend and that's why so many of us keep going back. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere is unbeatable. The kids Halloween party was once again fantastic and my children thoroughly enjoyed attending. Thanks to the owners for organising such a great event, plus the whole weekend. The pub has very much remained a regular place for so many of us because the experience we get every time. As a regular I love this place.

No food is served here. But there's plenty of choice for drinks. There's rock/metal everything in between played everyday and djs on Thursday to Sundays. Great atmosphere most of the time. One of the only places in Croydon I feel safe to relax and let down my hair. I also bring my children in thr day and they love it here. It's also dog friendly!!!

Staple of Croydon Rock Scene since forever, friendly atmosphere and all welcome no matter you like Rock or not. Beers on tap is good with great range of spirits, don't think they serve food but normally got in the late evening.

Always had a great experience when I've been here. Z nouri and Jeff where amazing, really friendly and welcoming. The bouncers where a breath of fresh air and I'll definitely be back!

Back again for some real music performed by real people and not a bloke standing behind a laptop. As the drink flowed my air guitar got overplayed much to my group’s embarrassment. Great night again!

My wife and I have visited The Ship outside of peak hours in the afternoon several times. We love it. Great vibe, rock and metal music. Professional staff. Tonight we'll go during peak hours for the first time. We know it'll be good.

Came here back in 2021 when I first visited London not long after lockdown luckily finished but for some reason it won't let me date it that far back. The only down side about when I came here is that it was when the rules we're set to a sit down service hence the low score so I couldn't get to experience this place for how good people said it was. But on the plus side I got to spend the whole evening with a real life Cowboy so surely that makes up for everything right?

The ship is always a great place to be. Live DJs on the weekends and great deals. Jackie and Mark never fail to put a smile on my face and the bar staff are always fun. Bad or good it’s a great atmosphere and always a laugh. Dogs and owners are always welcome and greeted with a crowd of hellos.

I've been going to The Ship for years. Being an old school heavy rock/metal fan, I love the atmosphere and music there. Doesn't seem to have changed much over the years.

Breath of fresh air in a sea of Surrey pubs destroyed by grey paint and silly sickly, gormless staff . A proper food free historic ale house with a proper fire and good beer. A great place to enjoy a few drinks and a chat. I actually heard somebody laugh when we were there and when do you hear that in a pub these days. If your'e fortunate enough to live in a house with a kitchen then you could do worse than repair here for a few drinks afterwards. Excellent.

My favourite alternative pub in the heart of Croydon.

This is a rock pub. It's one of the best with great staff and a great selection of drinks. If you are in to rock music I'd recommend a visit.

Popped in today for a drink. We had our daughter in a pram who was asleep and people hardly moved out the way as we walked in. It looked nice from outside but there wasn’t much room for the pram and the miserable locals/perhaps landlady said “not really ideal for little ones” and a couple of the other guys outside muttered that too. We then left straight away. Having looked at reviews, perhaps kids aren’t allowed, so why not put a Sign up or at least say something a bit more tactfully. Perhaps it was because we dared to move a bench to get the pram in

Wow what a blinding little boozer in Croydon. Always a pleasure visiting here. Staff always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Great priced drinks too.

Sometimes when you hate yourself so much you exude that hate outwards. It's a natural reaction to put the pain you're feeling onto others. Although understandable, it's hugely unpleasant. If you don't know what this looks like, you should meet the manger of this pub. When she screams at others, the first reaction is to be defensive, or even angry. However with her there is only sorrow. Sorrow for her obviously very unhappy life. And as understandable as it is, when you've had a long week at work and want to go for a beer, it's a bit much to watch. Anyway, sometimes they play okay music (albeit only 5 songs on repeat 7 days a week) the manager will suck any fun out of the room. You know when you look at yourself in he mirror and you're so agitated with the person looking back, most upstanding members of society put that hate inwards, this manager does not.

This place was awesome! A really good and tasty place for everyone even kids a nice and warm environment and it's honestly cool
