First visit to The Sheilingm tried to book last year but dates did not work out. Had heard good things and the lunch today certainly did not disappoint. We had a 2 course lunch and chose to have a main and a dessert rather than the more conventional starter and main combo. The fish goujons were very well cooked and presented, the chicken chasseur was also excellent. Fautless in fact. For dessert most cose the banana fritters with almond ice cream, this was amazing. My mother in law chose the cheese board which she could not finish. The cost was excellent, only £28 for a fantastic lunch for 4 people. The service was attentive, professional and courteous. Well done UHI The Sheiling .... you are winners.

We were in Gairloch for a week but discovered quickly that even in August this restaurant was only open on Friday and Saturdays! Unfortunately on Friday by the time we found it it was fully booked. We popped in for lunch on the Saturday and had a really nice meal in the restaurant. The first member of staff we encountered must have been hungover or new as she looked a little confused at very basic requests for lunch and couldn’t crack a smile. That was totally made up for by our waitress who was lovely, smiley and chatty and super efficient. All In all I would recommend this restaurant but definitely book in advance.

Just had the most amazing meal (again!) - strips of beef fillet salad in sesame dressing to start then salmon goujons with tartare sauce, chips & peas for main - wow!! The beef was melt in the mouth and the salmon goujons were so tasty, such a light crunchy coating and the tartare sauce was full of capers. It's a fantastic menu at extremely reasonable prices. Service sadly let it down today as there seemed an excess of trainees all standing about staring whilst we ate and our waiter was a little gruff.

Stuck between giving 3 and 4 stars. Staff are all learning so you need to take that into account. Food good but my avocado was brick hard. For £8 for 3 courses, cannot complain. Will return.

We finally visited this restaurant today, having spoken about numerous times, and we weren’t disappointed. We had a nice friendly welcome on arrival, and were pleasantly surprised with the menu. 2 courses for £6 was excellent, with a choice of 3 starters and 4 mains, which inc. chicken, salmon and lamb. Portion size was excellent and nicely presented. They also had a drinks menu, again very reasonably priced. Now that we’ve been, we most certainly will return. Well done all involved.

great service, presentation of food, and food quality. due to being a college training course located in a college building, atmosphere could be a bit plain.

A really excellent lunch today at The Sheiling. Beautiful smoked haddock risotto followed by swordfish & linguine and the delicious vanilla bavarois for pud. Plus coffees/teas/herbal tea and all for £10.50! Hats off to the student chefs (who we could watch working on the live TV feed) and although the waiting staff we a bit nervous they were very pleasant, helpful and cheerful. Well done Inverness College UHI!

Our team Christmas lunch was at The Sheiling Restaurant at Inverness College UHI. Having become pescatarian this year, I went for the salmon. This was served with a wonderful giant prawn, new potatoes and a fantastic tasting seafood bisque. This was a remarkable dish and matched up to or exceeded those in some of my favourite eateries. The desert, a rich chocolate baileys mousse was full of flavour and texture. Colleagues went for the lemon sesame tart, with which they were equally impressed. The service was lovely, provided by increasingly confident students.

We had a really lovely Christmas do at the Sheiling. I had a gorgeous broad bean salad and a rich shin beef casserole followed by a ‘just tart enough’ lemon tart. The restaurant was festively decorated and the service was excellent.

Had a wonderful Christmas lunch this week with the team. Chose the gluten free option, with no problems. Would recommend for lunch or dinner. Price is very competitive and quality is amazing. You forget that the people serving you and cooking are still Learning and attending the college to train.

We eat regularly at the Beechtree Restaurant a t Moray College, which is also part of the UHI, and it was very interesting to compare the two. The Sheiling is part of a much more modern complex than the Beechtree and so has a much more up to date feel and we particularly liked the tv screen showing what is going on in the kitchen. We do understand that these are teaching restaurants and that the waiters and waitresses are just setting out in learning their trade and we do not expect perfection. Both restaurants serve absolutely top notch food at the best price you will get anywhere and we really couldn't say that one was better than the other. Where we did think Moray College came out on top is in the supervision and guidance of the servers. In the Sheiling we didn't see anyone who was helping the serving staff to learn from the experience and they seemed to be asking each other what they should be doing in terms of offering menus, taking orders and removing menus etc. At the Beechtree there is always someone in authority and of experience to offer guidance, where required, and we feel sure that this leads to a better learning experience for the young staff.

We went for 2 meals in one week on our recent holiday in Gairloch and were not disappointed.Food was very good, booking advisable. The only downside was one of the waitresses (who we were told had been there for some years) could do with a refresher on customer service. She obviously knew how to do her job but was very abrupt and never cracked a smile. The owner, who is also the chef, was very pleasant and it seemed a bit of a let down for him not seeing what was going on at the front of house. Would highly recommend

I've been going to the Sheiling Restaurant ever since the new college opened and previously when it was run from the old building. Had some of the best meals I've ever eaten here for prices you wouldn't believe. They open on a Thursday night too which is great if you're seeking top quality food before catching a movie at the cinema.

From personable, professional student staff to elegant, economical meals, the Sheiling is our new favourite lunch spot. We each had two courses (for just £7.50/person!) and every dish was skillfully presented and absolutely delicious. Spread the word!
