The Shanghai Restaurant in Cheshire West and Chester

It's was a Friday night and we turned up without a reservation. Not a problem, happy to wait, even though it was busy. They fitted us into a window bay, and provided excellent service throughout. Another trio got seats, travelled from Liverpool and no booking either. The food was lush. We had duck in plum sauce, kung po pork with chili and cashews, with fried rice.

Food very good,was a little bit noisy but they told me there was a big party in but I said that was ok, will definitely be back

We Ordered the banquet for two at the shanghai Chinese restaurant which is literally just over the road from the B&B . The food ,staff and atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the banquet is great value ,we both really enjoyed the meal . Hoole has lots of lovely Bar/restaurants on its door step

What a find. We are visiting Chester for a few days. Decided we wanted a Chinese meal tonight. Saw the Shanghai on Tripadvisor with great reviews so booked for tonight. The reviews are well justified. I haven’t had a Chinese meal this good for years if not decades. If we come back to Chester we will visit again for sure. The food is superb and the service is great with helpful and friendly staff

Love this chinese restuarant, the staff are so nice and the food is excellant. Have to book though as they get booked up quickly.

We came here for a celebration night and had the banquet. The food was hot and really great tasting. The crispy duck was absolutely delicious. It's compact here, but the service was great. It's a great little find, and we will be returning.

We turned up on a Saturday night after reading good reviews on the off chance we could get a table. They managed to convert a table for 2 to fit the 3 of us on no problem. Lovely food, we had the kung po chicken and kung po beef and prawn chow mein. Couldn't fault the food or service. Would definitely recommend, unfortunately we don't live near or we would be back again.

Came for a friends birthday for the first time and it did not disappoint. The staff were so welcoming and friendly the minute we stepped through the door. We had a mixture of different dishes and had a pick at each and honestly it all tasted fantastic. I will definitely be coming back 😊

We came here as a family of four on christmas eve. From start to finish the service was excellent. This restaurant has a more upmarket atmosphere and is Perfect for special occasions, family meals or just a meal out with your loved ones. We had the mixed starter for 4 people and had Chicken sweet and sour, Lemon chicken And crispy beef. Im sure there wasnt much left at the end of the meal. The quality of food is great. And I would highly recommend this place.

Booked this venue for a Christmas Eve family meal. Our first visit here and we were not disappointed. The food was very nice and the service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant interior is tastefully done and although the restaurant gets busy it does not get loud or boisterous.

Celebrated my 85th birthday here on 13th December with a set banquet for two (again). Great food well presented by an efficient and friendly staff. They even boxed up the remains of our feast - we have small appetites - so we enjoyed another excellent meal at home the following day. This is my favourite Chinese restaurant, and we have visited it several times, always with pleasure.

Great food served up by amazing Anna! Myself & Dad had a stunning banquet swapping crispy duck for crispy lamb and it was all cooked to perfection! We finished the evening with a top notch Irish Coffee!

Was so impressed with this place the food was amazing went for the platter and the starter was out of this world! The beef in black bean was also very tasty. Kim the waitress was so rapid, nothing to much trouble and got drinks rapidly but also stayed chatty and friendly even through a busy service. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Great place with great food. Bit on the steep side, but definitely worth it! Their Kung Po pork loin with cashews and chilli is just fabulous, but everything we've had was lovely!

Decided to try after reading the reviews and comparing to other restaurants. In a very old building but had a great feel to it and place was comfortably warm. Spot on for a big meal. We decided to go for a banquet for vaule and wasn't disappointed at all. Found the prices slightly on the high side Compared to other restaurants however the quality of the food and service made up for this. Couldn't fault the service was quick very friendly and spot on. This also goes for the food good no problems at all here. Only thing for out of town was a little on the expensive side. Banquet for 2 with glass of Coke 2 glass of wine. £ 86.00. Cark park is also small but enough spaces if not to busy.

This was our 1st visit and after reading the reviews decided to try it and couldn't fault it. 15min walk from our apartment,didn't book and no problem getting a seat. For a Tuesday night there was a good amount of people in and the staff were very helpful and attentive. We had duck in orange sauce which was one of the best we have had and pork fillet in ginger and spring onion sauce along with noodles and egg fried rice, it all was delicious. We had a bottle of house wine which was lovely aswell. If visiting Chester again we will definitely be back!

First time here, and what a find! Meals were amazing, from starter to desert, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. That duck in a plum sauce - I’ll be back for it.

Excellent food and friendly staff

Everything about this restaurant is 5 star, from the welcome by lovely staff, classy but relaxing ambience, and delicious food. Our seafood sharing platter was sumptuous, plumb scallops, crispy prawns, mussels cooked in shells with amazing sauce and crispy seaweed. My pork fillet sizzling dish with ginger and spring onions was delicious and my husband's duck with orange sauce was very tender with crispy skin with a not too sweet well-balanced sauce. The lady who served us was charming. I wish we lived nearer as we would be there every week no doubt about it. Thank you to staff and chef for making a memorable evening for us.

Recommended to us by the owner of the hotel just up the road and quite rightly so. The building is a converted pub but has a good Chinese vibe to the decor and furniture. We shared three generous dishes plus rice and it was some of the best Chinese food we have eaten for a long time. The staff were a delight, especialy after the waitress found out we could speak some Cantonese. We will definitely go again when we are next in Chester.

We are very fussy with Chinese food and have tried most restaurants in Chester without any luck. We recently decided to give Shanghai a try and so glad we did as the food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. Both times we have visited we have had the banquet. Both times the food was delicious and you get very generous servings.

Food was very good. Very friendly staff. As there were 5 of us, we ordered a banquet. Very filling and one of our party took a doggy bag home. Next I would possibly or for myself.

Lovely food.Friendly staff.Was not disappointed at all. The only down for me we where told to get there by 8 o'clock when I called to book at closes at half past 9. We got there at quarter to 8 and was almost finished our meal by quarter past 9 but felt the lady was hovering over us to take payment so she could clear us out That was the only thing I found uncomfortable. Would recommend going to this restaurant but maybe around 7 o'clock and not much later.

A mixture of the West and East - Shanghai Restaurant is operated from a 200+ years old building in the edge of Chester old town. I was attracted by the building in the first place and obviously, this is a place for the locals for some special celebrations. Prices are on the high side and portion is not aimed for big stomach.

Amazing! Thank you for another delicious meal! The sesame prawn toasts are fantastic and we all love the noodles.

From a enthusiastic welcome by FOH 6 of us sat down to dinner. Decor classy, it all helps. We ordered a banquet for us. There are various types. Ours consisted of Round 1 . Ribs,chicken skewers,spring rolls,seaweed(cabbage really) and the best prawn toasts I've ever...

From the outside it doesn't look too inviting but when you enter it harks back to a time of Chinese influence. So don't let this put you off. The service was inviting and exceptional. The food was one of the best sampled around the world at some of the best Chinese Restaurants we have ever tasted. And we have been to quite a few. We started off with half a Crispy Aromatic Duck, Pork Dumplings and Spring rolls. Heaven. Followed off with Chicken Chow Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork Fillet, Sweet and Sour King Prawns, Steak in a Black Bean Sauce with the ubiquitus chips and Fried Rice. We were soo full we couldn't finish it but wanted to as a table of three. Will we return, without a doubt. I would encourage everyone else to as well, this venue will certainly not dissapoint. Cannot Recommend Highly enough

Been a few times over the years,this Time food poor cost £77 not worth £20 Will never go again . Ordered Singapore noodles with 3 meat /no meat no taste Hubby said his beef in blackbean sauce ok ok but not worth the money

This is definitely best go to restaurant in hoole. Food is fabulous. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere and decor is very relaxing. Maybe book in advance as it is very popular with locals and visitors to Chester.

Fabulous. From arriving to leaving. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Helpful with menu choices and able to have off menu dishes for allergies. Everything cooked fresh and hot, and so delicious , the egg fried rice was so unbelievable 😋 a very lovely, superb anniversary meal. Cannot praise this restaurant enough.

We had tried to book for the last year as this seemed to be a difficult process. The service was very quick at first then came to a stop. We ordered 3 main dishes and a couple of side dishes. The food was tasteless and...

We called in without having booked on a Saturday night (I know!!) at about 5.45 but they were able to find us a table as long as we could be done by 7pm which was no problem to us. Food arrived quickly and was lovely....

I came back to this place for the first time in about 10 years and it was every bit as good as I remembered. Everything about our meal was exceptional. We had the Banquet B for two and left absolutely stuffed. The ribs in particular are to die for. The service was excellent – speedy and friendly. It is worth knowing that you have to call between 10-2 to make a reservation – we didn't know and missed our window, but luckily they were able to fit us in on the night.

We were with friends and had a banquet meal for 2 times 2. It was excellent and the portions were enormous. Service was quick and friendly.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food. There weren't many vegetarian options but I asked for a vegetable chow mein (not on the menu) and it was made for me and it was so tasty!

What a place. The food was absolutely superb. We had the mixed sharing platter to start, with each item on it being 10/10. We then moved onto sharing half a duck with some salt and pepper chips and everything was just delightful. The service topped it off, efficient and friendly. Can’t wait to go back.

Haven't visited for a while and was really looking forward to it, but didn't feel that welcome, especially at the end of our meal around 9pm when the waitress asked if we wanted out bill as soon as we'd finished our meal. I asked if we could look at the deserts and was told the kitchen was closed. It was a Thursday night and I don't think 9pm is too late for a desert. We were never told we had a time limit or the kitchen was closing. Not sure I'll go back.

We picked the Shanghi for a regular monthly family meal. There were seven of us, none of us had been before. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The restraunt had a nice atmosphere. We picked a banquet at a set price each....
