Not for me. Looks to have had a makeover and seemed to attract the baseball capped, kareoke clientele. Shame really used to be a nice pub but thats just my opinion.

The upstairs service. Simply terrible we will not come back. They did not want to provide with wifi password, and rude attitude. Flat Diet Coke . Awful. Downstairs service better .

This has got to be the most disgusting disabled toilet I have ever in my life used. The blond barmaid did not care there was no hand soap and stated " I have been in worse" " There is a ladies toilet up stairs but most people can not be bothered going up there" Disability is NOT ALWAYS EVIDENT!! DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR FROM STAFF!! Looks nice on entry but disgraceful toilet as barmaid had no idea or intention of cleaning toilet or even putting hand soap in there. I would never hire a member of staff who had such a blaze attitude to health and hygiene.

Great food got there the lady said the kitchen was closed but went and spoke to the kitchen and still accommodated us and it was a lovely tea

Went to a 60th party in the Shakespear on Saturday . Considering it's in a prime location The price for Venue and food was not too expensive. The upstairs room were the party was held was spotlessly clean . The Staff were very polite and attentive and the food was fabulous . I would recommend anyone who wants a party in Liverpool to have it there .

£4.80 for a pint if Madri is very good for liverpool city center in fact for most city centers, great music and a great pint means we'll definitely be back, there's a restaurant above the bar but we didn't go there. Recommended

Fish and chips where awful. 6 potato wedges and a oily piece of not beer battered cod was my offering. My friend got overcooked sea bass. Definitely not be back. Not even asked if it was OK. Think the staff knows the food is slow and awful.

Called in Wednesday night , was met by lovely friendly lady. Great menu at very reasonable prices, our steak &ale pie was absolutely delicious. Service for drinks and food was fantastic we will definitely be returning.

The food that was brought to the table was not what was ordered . Plate of chips with 2 badly cooked sea vas fillets instead of grilled sea bass with hasseback pots and veg. I was offered an apology with a complimentary drink.

Visit here the restaurant upstairs. Not usual pub food. Good menu, tasty food, good selection starters, mains and desert. Good service and restaurant is clean. Fair prices for drinks.

We dropped in after a day in Liverpool. It was not packed but there were some customers. The staff was bot rude at all. Food was ordered quickly and served as well. The food was OK. Steak was a little over cooked. I have to say that 3 stars don’t do them fully justice but 4 stars is way too much. So keep it anywhere between 3 and 3.5

Came here on Saturday with my family it was very busy at the time. Downstairs had a great singer on. But we're hungry so went upstairs we were Greeted by a lovely man (james)with a big smile on his face he sat us down. We ordered out food and although busy we didn't wait long the service and our meals were amazing. We would definitely return. Thank you for a great afternoon

Was over from ireland grand national weekend we popped in here of a sunday evening for food and drinks, I really enjoyed the steak plus it was cheap staff nice, Only reason i knocked a star off was they had no mint leaves so couldn't make us mojitos plus no tartar sauce with the fish. But I'll be back again in June and ill definitely be in for the steak again and hopefully a mojito... Karaoke bar downstairs also good....Stock up on tartar sauce 👌

Well first thing is the place was empty when to the bar to order drinks ordered them barman put them on the bar and made us wait toll he answer his mobile 5 min later he fetched them to us I said not very good customer service he replied I was on phone to his relative then we ordered food I ordered steak medium came out looked like a plate of blood so sent it back fetched another for me which still about the same cold sent that back told him just get us the bill then tried to charge us a different price then he menu price on tables hadn't be changed def wouldn't go there avoid

Shopping in liverpool with family not local so asked someone were was nice to dine and was told here, found the server rude took our order and then menus before we finished ordering, didnt wait long for food which was very nice, would of liked more chips with the fish, went to pay and was charged more than the receipt said which isnt good.

Lovely lunch cooked to perfection

Came here yesterday for a meal.. And the food was lovely, couldn't fault anything. The staff were lovely aswell, and friendly. The only thing with the restaurant upstairs, and there is lot of stairs as I have some mobility problems. And seen a lady must been in her 70s struggling getting up. But apart from that great 👍

Absolute shambles due to change of chef..waited over 45 mins to be served and food was returned 3 times...would not book there again.

Absolutely terrible service. Ordered food which took over one hour and 30 mins to arrive this was after repeatedly asking the staff when it would be served ,they kept saying that they were checking it ,but never came back with any update or any apologies.The nachos were not as described,no guacamole.the Pizza was ok. The ladies toilet was a disgrace,toilet roll holder broken ,seats broken and the hand drier did not work. The karaoke was a racket downstairs. While we were sitting one of the staff came over to wipe the table around the drinks with a dirty old cloth . The staff should attend a customer service course or at least be more helpful and put a smile in their faces

The slowest place we've been to. We had to go to the bar twice and ask about our order. We waited for food for almost an hour, but it turned out that they had not even begun to prepare it.

When I came here the place was dead as it was only 1.40 , I came for lunch with my boyfriend. food took its time. quality not great. service awful. I got nachos and half of the description wasn’t present ie guacamole, salsa!? The man who served our food hovered over us while we ate in which i was extremely uncomfortable and it was weird

Friendly service and excellent good value food. We had the scouse and can highly recommend it. Spacious tables and background music that is not too loud, so that you can have conversation without shouting.

Normally come here for just a drink,but thought we would try the food.Sat at a table waiting to be served.Ask the table if you needed to goto the bar to order and was told it was table service..So we waited.One of the bar staff went to another table and took the order.We were still waiting after 20 mins we went to the bar to be table it's not table service.Is it or is it NOT table service.?We ordered food and drinks..We waited 10 minutes for drinks and the food came 30 minutes late. Food was hot and not bad quality.The table next to us waited over a hour for there food and still hadn,t arrived.And was told were busy and short of staff and could be another 30 minutes,so the left without food.Another table across the way ,had the same problems and same reply.The place wasn,t that busy,so god help the with the run up to Christmas.Will return for drinks not food.

There was someone outside advertising which is a red for to me anyway… but we went in on a Saturday night peak time and it was empty! Automatically had a bad feeling, there was 7 of us and we ordered some garlic bread for starters which took at least 30 minutes and then we ordered separately so it was fine our food come at different times but the chips wernt even chips! They were potatos cold and hard , we had to ask for chips and explain the menu said chips and not one potato , the steak was bland and full of fat and the scouse again was cold and had hard potatos in, we didn’t complain we just wanted out but never again and I understand why it was empty now! Would not reccomend, take some pride in your food service and cooking then maybe you’ll get some customers through the door

Great place if you like loose your time in à noisy atmosphere. We tried to eat there yesterday, unsuccesfully (so I cannot comment the quality but looking at the menu and my neighbours's table meals there was nothing crazy about it). They stop serving food at 19h30 but instead of telling you service is finished they just do like if you weren't here. Nobody went to host us and Nobody went to take our order. So after waiting 20 minutes for nothing we left wirhout eating or drinking anything.

Had a chicken roast dinner my wife and I 25/09/2022 and can honestly say it was the worsed Sunday roast we have ever had . everything was microwave

Most of Liverpool city centre was shuttered this morning, the rainy cold bank holiday of QEII's funeral, and we ended up watching downstairs at the Shakespeare with 3-5 others. Tracy made us feel like we were sat in her living room, with gracious service and warm hospitality that was first rate. We enjoyed watching the regulars stop in and be greeted by name, and will be back for food soon. On a visit when had no expectations, Tracy made us feel front and center.

Was a lovely & friendly pub , until management & staff from sweenys took over, it will never be the same now

Ordered Sunday roast lamb. Chicken turned up. Cold vegetables, three very small potatoes and cold lumpy gravy. Ate as much as I could stomach, went to Greggs for a pie.

Would usually give this place five stars but this is for yesterday only. Our daughter was over from Southern Ireland for a visit so we went to Liverpool shopping and as we've always had a good experience here, took her for lunch. Soooo disappointed. I had steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Steak and ale pie fine, not quite up to usual standard but OK, and potatoes lumpy and cold. Our daughter ordered a 'sirloin steak' which was served about 10 minutes after our meal and was a flat, tough piece of steak that looked like the sole off a shoe, more like a minute steak nothing like a sirloin, but she wouldn't let me complain. I felt so sorry for her after we had praised this pub then was let down by it. Saying this, the staff are lovely and so helpful and I'm sure if I had complained they would have sorted it out for us. But unfortunately the experience tainted our day and our daughter went out again with another relative for another meal, later, as she was still hungry. So disappointed.

Called in today for lunch, steak & ale pie. The ‘creamy mash’ was lumpy & barely warm, peas were warm, the plates where cold and best of all I found a piece of ‘wire in my pie ! ‘ approximately 1inch long. When I complained I did not get as much as an apology from the kitchen staff !…. OUTRAGEOUS WHEN I COULD HAVE CHOKED. I will be forwarding my pictures to the HSE IMMEDIATELY. Been a number of times over past three years to meet friends for lunch and always happy with food and service.

Called here on a weekend in Liverpool for a stag trip. Great bar and well priced. Managed to leave my phone there and they couldn't have been more helpful on helping me get it back! will definitely visit again next time i'm there!

We visited for lunch and as usual the place is so warm and welcoming. We enjoyed a generous portion of scouse which was delicious. The staff are great, taking photos of us by the Christmas tree. Such good fun.

I have visited this establishment often, and I must say that it is certainly memorable. Its central location means that the people you see sat both in and outside are diverse and from all walks of life. The staff are friendly and accomodating. The drinks are good value, especially considering the high quality. And most importantly the atmosphere is fantastic. Proper liverpool bar that is worth a visit next time you are around town.
