Ain’t been to this great pub for a while so looked forward to a proper beer. Alas it’s followed the trend of not serving beer. On draught we had 3 lagers a cider, a pale ale (pale ale is probably the most disgusting ale I’ve ever had the misfortune to taste) and a stout. No bitter or golden or amber ale. What’s happened to this place? Still a nice pub but for gods sake get your beer sorted

Waited an age for the quite bland food to arrive, one plate of the bland mush was also tepid which is something I suppose..customer service was a wee bit brusque. There's spoons across the road and around the corner. say no more.

My daughter and I went in for a drink yesterday and decided to have some food . There was a bar food menu on the table but when my daughter went to the bar to order the rude youg guy said we don't do bar food on sunday . When we asked if we could order from the sunday menu we were told you can't have this in the bar area - despite the fact the people sitting next to us were eating !!! He then said they were allowed to be served as they are regulars - we walked out and definitely wont be back again .

14 of us went for a family birthday celebration. As it was a Saturday evening, we selected our starters and main courses prior to the event. Result - very good meals all round! We chose a wide selection between us from the standard menu for the main course. Everyone enjoyed the food - including the desserts - while the service and attention of the staff was excellent throughout. We all reckoned it was a good eatery and would certainly return.

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch and totally shocked how much this pub has lost its professionalism and the quality of food I dont know whether it's new management or what but can honestly say I gave this pub 5 stars last year and now would give it 2 at a push!firstly no Yorkshire puddings or chicken available and veg tasted like frozen stuff covered in butter and definitely not a roast potato it was a boiled one covered in tarragon or something, hence I wont be visiting again and also not worth the money!

Truly awful.Visited with my mum and wife.Weren’t acknowledged when walked in, boss walking past us to talk to other waiting customers. No “with you in a second” or anything.Staff were arguing in front of us. 20 mins to ask what we wanted, explained after ordering Sunday dinners they had no Yorkshire puds.Only one diner had a starter.Said starter took an hour to arrive (a prawn cocktail) Prawn cocktail was good! But not an hours wait food More arguments between the staff... 30 mins later (1hr 30mins) for non starters guests are mains arrived.Frozen veg, 3 small boiled potatoes (no roast potatoes) was left and not ate.We were offered free deserts after letting them know we were disappointed but we just wanted to leave.Looks like the reviews from Sunday... shows we weren’t on our own.Such a shame looks like a beautiful venue.Poor staff, poor food. Over priced. Never be back.

Took my partner here for a belated birthday treat for a Sunday lunch what a let down ( know for the best yorkies In Liverpool I chose this !!!! ) travelled from the Midlands so booked in advance when we arrived table was not ready that wasn’t a problem but when we did finally sit down we both ordered the beef to be told the oven was broken so there would be no Yorkshire puddings ?....? They had my mobile so why didn’t they call in advance or tell us before we were led to the table disgusting service we waited 30 mins for a prawn cocktail starter which was just a bed of iceberg lettuce with an handful of prawns on top with a slice of bread I decided to have fish and chips and to be honest not the best and my partner was not impressed with her roast dinner after waiting another 35 mins I would definitely try some where in Liverpool !!!!! for a Sunday lunch 50 pounds for two courses and two pints rip off

Visiting my son in Liverpool before a massive day for me. Heard good tales of this place so booked in advance. We waited 25 mins for starters one was still frozen so sent it back then waited a further 25 minutes for mains which in the end never came as we decided that we had had enough waiting- all the other tables around us had managed to get their mains although the staff had been offering the started for free due to complaints They did however charge us for our one stater and drinks - not good value and certainly cheeky considering we were so dissatisfied I am sure that there are plenty of alternatives aroundI’ll choose better next time

We had a lovely welcome from the staff and ate in the yard at the back of the pub. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Main courses were very generous so no need for a starter. Curries are a speciality with delicate flavours and a kick. 3 people chose the pies and they were all delicious.A lovely evening, candles on the tables and a good atmosphere. Thank you.

We visited The Monro on recommendations from blogs and websites that described places to get good Sunday roasts. The food was pretty decent - good Yorkshire pudding and also the finest sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The staff were quite attentive and made our experience amazing.

We enjoyed a couple of cocktails, the mojito went down as a treat. We had a look at the menu and decided to get a burger and a Scouse. Both were very tasty. For starter we shared dips with pitta bread. So yammy!!! Huge portions, reasonable prices. Lovely place, great find.

Visited the Monro for a works Christmas meal, and after hearing nothing but good things was really looking forward to a 3 course meal of gastro pub standard. It was in fact a disgrace! The worst meal I have ever eaten out at Christmas. It does not even deserve the one star given. The terrine was the quality and texture of tinned meat, served with 3 tiny pickled onions. The main was without a doubt the most appalling excuse for a Christmas dinner I have ever seen. A strip across the plate ( 3/4 of the plate was empty.)The stripe consisted of a 2 inch round of turkey, an eighth of a potato, a cocktail sausage ands disc of stuffing the size of a 20p. A sprig of kale completed the stripe of food, utterly bizarre! A drizzle of gravy was just about visible. It took 3 requests to obtain cranberry sauce. The food was cold, yet over cooked....The minuscule Xmas pudding completed this hideous meal. All 3 courses could have fitted on a side plate, and we're all unpleasant as well as tiny. Disgusting food, overpriced and feel taken advantage of.My colleagues had other variations from the menu, all equally as bad as mine, in their own way.Very let down and disappointed. We voiced this at the time but the staff were not interested, and asked us to let management know after the event.

I had scallops - there were 3 and then a really tiny fillet of stone bass that didn't come with anything except 4 small cubes of a firm white vegetable which I couldn't identify. Other people's dishes seemed to come with fries - chunky and regular on the plate but I was expecting some mixed veg but presumably this is extra. This wasn't a cheap meal either. Nicely cooked, nice place and good beer but really not sufficient food to serve as a main course

Incredibly quire in Thursday evening only one other table occupied in restaurant, bar not really busy but understood that they had a promotion on in January. Don't know why they need to offer vouchers this place is worth every Penny for the food. I started with black pudding scotch eggs which were half pinched by my wife who "never" has a starter. My pan fried duck breast just melted in the mouth, accompanied by a duck confit topped with sweet potato. Could not identify what the duck was served on but waitress asked the chef and it was braised chicory. My wife's fish and chips was hake cooked perfectly her chips were a bit big and could have done with a little longer in the oven. Sticky toffee pudding topped my three courses. Excellent Merlot my wife enjoyed and I was on Pelligrino. Superb value, it is worth spending £56 to come here by train from Maidenhead for the food. Long may you continue.

Booked a meal here with a voucher £40 spend for £ 20. Have eaten here several times and was looking forward to the evening. Husband ordered the pan fried scallops with black pudding fritter and pea purée at £9 50. When it arrived the scallops were about the size of a ten pence coin and numbered three! The black pudding fritter was the size of a small marble and the pea purée was frozen! To say he was disappointed is an understatement, this after a half hour wait!! I had the prawn cocktail with one large prawn and the rest were the smallest prawns I have ever seen, and again at £ 6 95 very price for what I received! Husband had battered fish with chips for main meal. The fish was ok but chips were very chunky and undercooked and hard. I had Sirloin steak and chips for main meal. The steak had a large amount of fat and gristle and not much flavour, chips same as husbands meal, two halves of a tomato and two field mushrooms! We waited 35 minutes for the main course meals even when we explained we were to meet friends. We complained to the waitress about the scallops and also explained we were not happy about meals and the wait, but to no avail! We will certainly not be eating here again and will not be recommending The Monro to our friends and family! Chef needs to re assess his portions, timing of meals when ordered and management need to address prices to give good value for portion sizes!!!

After looking forward to dining at the Monro I can honestly say it was the worst roast I have ever had ! The starter and dessert were nice but not hard to get wrong . The veg was so hard I could hardly cut it the roast potatoes tasted like they had been sitting under a hot plate all day the lamb was mostly fat . The teaspoon of gravy had no flavour , I think the chef should take a trip to a Toby carvery and get a few tips ! I'm so glad I had a voucher for half price but it still pained me to pay that . Such a shame as the staff were lovely .

Despite my wife wanting to try here for quite a while I decided to treat her (got a half price voucher). Everything was OK til we ordered our food. Firstly we waited about 15 minutes for both our soups to arrive. They were quite tasty when they finally arrived (spicy carrot and honey). I ordered the hand battered fish and chips which was quite nice, but I wasn't expecting the batter to be so thin and soft. I thought it would of been traditionally crispy. Should it of been? The chips were spot on, well cooked and chunky. My wife order pan fried duck breast, cherry sauce with a confit of duck with sweet potato (shepards pie) that is how it was written, so my wife expected a decent amount of duck with a decent size (shepherds pie) like portion smothered with sweet potato. Duck breast as expected, the confit of duck with the sweet potato topping was in a pot the size of a pot you'd expect to get a side order in. The cherry sauce was a couple of drops on the plate and shallots which for an onion lover found the taste of these vile. A very disappointing meal, especially at £16.95 for my wifes main meal. Duck with duck seemed a bit strange or are we just too common? What annoyed me was that our main arrived whilst I was at the loo. Is it difficult to wait til both are seated to present food? I can understand with multiple orders, but surely it would be professional to do this for couples (a nice touch). Will we go again? I'm afraid not, not at those prices. Maybe we're too common for this establishment.

After receiving a lovely welcome at The Monroe, I was disappointment with our main meal . We both ordered steaks meduim to well done, and both where very undercooked, rare in the middle and dropping in blood. The meals where returned only to be given back the same steaks Which where still full of blood. The waitress did not think that this was a problem , however did offer another meal, which we accepted. The soup starter was average, however the Desserts of Pana cotta and choclate brûlée where lovely. After 4 visits to the Monroe I will not be returning or recommending this to anyone. At the very least we feel that the manager should have come to apologies for the poor quality of the food.

This was the first time we had been to The Monro and certainly won't be the last. The roaring fire was most welcome on a cold wet evening and the staff had a lovely warm welcome for us too. We were shown straight to our table and our drinks order taken whilst we looked at the menu. The food we ordered came quite quickly and was delicious. We had Artisan breads to start, hubby had chicken with fondant potato, I had butternut squash and spinach wellington, all piping hot and very tasty. For afters we both had lemon posset and as with the rest of our meal this too was delicious. For 5pm on a wet and cold Thursday evening The Monro was busy and had a nice cosy atmosphere. After quite a break, my wife and I visited The Monroe last Saturday, eating from their “Log Fire Menu”. We were greeted warmly and offered a table between the log fire and the window. A good choice on a damp and cold January evening. We both enjoy “people watching”..!! The greeting and service was excellent. However, when our starters arrived, we were somewhat concerned. My wife chose the “Truffled wild mushrooms on toast, crispy hens egg” and I the “Black pudding and pork scotch egg, caramelised tomato ketchup, pancetta crisp”. The plates were hot and, in the case of the mushrooms and toast, they were hot. However, much to our surprise, both the soft boiled eggs in our dishes were cold (although the crispy outer was hot..?) These were sent back and, soon after, replacements arrived. These were slightly better, but then the plates were cold….! As we had come out to enjoy a meal, we decided to eat “and be damned”, regardless of any after effects…. (We don’t like hassle..!) Anyway, we are both well and I, for one am looking forward to next weekend. Our main courses were perfect. I can always rely on The Monroe to present a flavoursome Beer battered fillet of haddock, hand cut chips, homemade marrowfat peas & tartar sauce and was not disappointed. My wife’s Pan fried fillet of hake, chorizo pea and potato chowder, buttered samphire, was also enjoyed, although she did think that the piece of hake could, for the price, have been somewhat more generous. ;-) Before we left, we did talk to other diners nearby, who had not totally enjoyed their meals, but had not complained. We suggested that they did, rather than voting with their feet. All, in all, an enjoyable evening, but tinged with concern over the temperature of the eggs in our starters. Hopefully, I will be back next week, with a friend. Let’s hope the eggs are on form, as my starter was particularly tasty.

We went to the Monro today as it was one of those days you just fancy a roast. We have been to a few places for a Sunday roast in Liverpool but to me this was the best so far. For starter we had the soup and a pork/black pudding sausage roll, both of which were scrummy! For main we had roast pork and beef. The roasts were exactly what you want from a roast, tasty, big servings and eating it right in front of a roaring fire was perfect! It really hit the nail of the head for me. Service was very good and we would definitely return!

Friends insisted we visited this gastropub after a day wandering around Liverpool. So pleased that they made the reservation. This old street corner pub has been tastefully refurbished into a modern dining experience. On the day we called an open fire was roaring away and this just added to the ambience. Friendly waiting staff and a good choice of drinks just added to the cosy feel. The menu consists of about five choices in each course and this is a wise decision as it ensures that everything is freshly prepared. We would certainly visit again when in Liverpool.

Went here for dinner after checking out TA reports and visiting the web site. What you see on the web site and what you get are two very different things. It's true the staff are very pleasant and helpful but for a cosy fireside experience eating fantastic food forget it. Admittedly we visited on one of the mildest December days in history so I could understand that the fire wasn't lit but there are just a couple of fireside tables the rest are back in a room which doesn't have a fabulous atmosphere, possibly shabby chic but not warming or cosy. The menu is very limited and the food is ok but nothing special certainly not up to gastro pub standards. Prices are at the top end for normal pub grub and I guess cheap for a gastro pub but it's not a gastro pub. The gastro soup of the day was tomato with not even a hit of some gastronomic basil or cream or anything else a gastro pub may come up with! Ok but a disappointment from their web story.

Went here yesterday for our works Christmas do. From start to finish it was terrible. How the place is set off for large party is you have the staff pulling faces every fives minutes because you are in their way. The kitchen is in the wrong place completely. The food was horrible from the pate to start with the, not nice textures and not flavoursome. The beef Christmas dinner has to be the worst meat I have tasted in a long time, extremely fatty and cold, Yorkshire puddings hard and like they had been left on the side for an hour. The best part of the meal was the white wine. All in all the food was horrible, staff were rude and I wouldn't be spending my own money there. Thankfully the company paid.

I could not complain about anything other than the woody smell when we arrived due to a log fire, that's being very picky, luckily we where sat well away from that area, The meal and the service was second to none, everyone who served us where helpful an attentive, answered questions about meals on the menu or got the answers. Has the Monroe been sold onto Wetherspoons and nobody told us? My families third year return, (and my first ) for a family Christmas meal with a party of eight in a half empty pub was ruined by cold (and very average) soup, dry bread, bitter parsley butter, no checkback and lacksidasical service, having complained about the cold soup. We were all served our Christmas dinner on cold plates, the cauli, carrots and sprouts were stone cold on eight plates, the sausage and stuffing were luke warm, half the parties spuds were cold, the plates were being sent back faster than the waiting staff could bring them out... the supervisers response was, "the plates are hot", patently not, as i held the stone cold plate not by its edge but with my palm under the luke warm centre. And he grumpily interupted my uncle to take them away, upon return it was immediately apparent that this was the same food reheated and served up again on.... cold plates, i gave up when i realised the food had been covered in gravy, i loath gravy, i asked the supervisor would they do this?, why can't they serve the gravy in a boat like the rest of the world, he nearly hid his sneer as he explained that ALL RESTAURANTS serve the gravy on the food, what a load of rubbish,We did get to see the gravy boats, they served the luke warm custard in them, to cover the tiny luke warm christmas puddings served in... cold bowls. I had a crumble, illogically served in a kilner jar on a chunk of wood, the portion filled the jar with no room for the custard, i had to ask for a bowl to decant it into, the waitress obligingly brought a cold bowl to me, but not the jug of water we had requested at the beginning of the meal and after the first cold course, we took to going to the bar for our drinks as it was quicker than trying to catch the waiters eye, indeed i took to returning the empty glasses after the waiters ignored them, (all the unused water and wine glasses shared the space with two rounds,) i was met half way by the supervisor who grabbed a tray declaring he was just about to come and clear them...We were given a round of drinks by way of apology. the Christmas meal was served with no Christmas table decorations, no crackers, no decorative napkins etc. We had to pay in full in advance and make our menu choices in advance. at £25.00 per head this is terribly overpriced.

This is a nice pub with an open log burning fire. All the staff are nice and attentive, but and it is a big but, the set christmas meal for £25 was apalling. A luke warm soup with stale bread for a starter, a luke warm main course which was sent back, in my wifes case sent back twice before it was edible. Dark meat that was inedible and the meal looked and tasted as if it had been standing in the kitchen for half an hourThis gastro pub really needs to find a decent chef because he is ruining what used to be a good restaurant.By chance I have eaten here twice in the last 7 days and on both occasions the meals have been way below the standard you would expect. Both times all eight people said they would'nt return.

After a windy and bracing Sunday morning on Crosby beach looking at the Anthony Gormley sculptures, my wife said she’d like a traditional roast Sunday lunch in a nice pub and, searching on my phone as we were headed back to Liverpool Central, I found The Monro. Very welcoming, with a real fire and real ales. I had a pint of Thwaites’ Wainwright, which was great (smooth with a lovely creamy head) and my wife had red wine. We hadn’t booked but this was no problem and we were seated in the dinning room by the window and the open fire.Sunday lunch menu was a selection of starters, mains and deserts, with the option of just having two or all three courses. We ordered starters and mains; my wife had the prawn cocktail and I had the ham hock terrine and both were great, my wife praising the sauce on the prawns for not being too vinegary. We both ordered roast beef and it came with Yorkshire pudding, roasted carrots, potatoes and cauliflower cheese. It hit the spot for both of us and, with the real fire and more drinks, all seemed fine with the world. My acid test of a restaurant is how it reacts when I pitch up at 1pm on a Sunday lunchtime and haven’t booked. The chap in charge of the restaurant was welcoming and got us seated very quickly without fuss. The staff were great - observant and knew when we needed service (more drinks, plates removed) and when to leave us alone. We had a great meal at The Monro. It’s an historically significant building (a merchant’s house from Georgian times) that has been sympathetically renovated. The next time we’re in Liverpool, I would definitely pay a return visit.

I recently visited the Monro to celebrate a family members birthday.Although the restaurant is cosy with open fire and nice atmosphere, that seems to be the only positive I can find to say about this restaurant.First of all the food and drinks are overpriced. The menu is very limited and would not suit everyone's tastes.Found the food quite mediocre.Very small the portions. Some members of staff were nice, others not so.Would definitely not bother eating here again.

Our Merseyside friends, with whom we'd enjoyed a theatre matinee, suggested that we have a meal together before we caught our train home to Manchester. They'd had good dining at The Monro on many occasions, so we thought that when they booked us in here for Saturday evening we'd be in for a real treat. Oh dear! There seemed to be more style than substance with the food. The minimalist beauty of the ravioli starter could not be faulted, but there was just ONE raviolo on the plate about 1 inch wide. It looked totally lost on its huge plate (which was also used for the mains) When a starter is advertised as ravioli, you expect more than one. Ravioli, after all is a PLURAL. The pan-fried duck main was very fatty and looked totally unappetising with its “cherry puree” whose dark brown colour was reminiscent of school dinners. The lamb rump looked more like a small leg steak with pieces of meat held together by fatty tissue. It was accompanied “creamy mashed potato” which far from being creamy was watery and tasteless (none of that vital checking of seasoning that our TV chef gurus insist upon) – in fact I’ve had better Smash from a packet than this. It was difficult to taste the chorizo in the generous portion of peas that accompanied the hake. However I think that the hake was the best choice of a poor bunch. I’m glad it was mine! So far, so underwhelmed. Our friends had never experienced such poor cooking in your establishment before and were most disappointed and embarrassed. Given our experience with starters and mains, we thought that we'd forego desserts and opt for coffee. Surely nobody could get that wrong? Well, two coffees out of the four were fine, but the espresso and one of the Americanos were distinctly lukewarm. Such a shame. On the plus side we had an excellent bottle of wine, the service was thoughtful and polite and the Munro was a lovely place for a meal with its attractive decoration, cosy fire and twinkling candles. We were a group of experienced cooks and "eaters out" but The Monro will not be on our list of gastro pubs in future. We were prepared to be wowed, but were distinctly underwhelmed.

I Booked a table for 4 at the Monro for my boyfriends 30th and requested a window seat by the fire which was granted with no problems. The Monro has a lovely friendly atmosphere, it was raining quite heavily outside but we all felt warm and cosy and I could of sat there all afternoon. The service was excellent, the staff where very polite and nothing was to much trouble. We all really enjoyed the food, it was delicious and my partner particularly enjoyed the "goodness hake" dish! The only down side to the day was that they where yet to receive there daily order of steak, which I already had in mind to order before hand so I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed but we all still had a lovely time and we will definitely be returning.

The Monro used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Liverpool. It did what it said on the tin - gastro pub. It now seems to be overpriced and over pretentious. Service wasn't great, waited over an hour for our starters. Food was of very small portions and cold. One tiny piece of mushroom tortellini as a starter. Lamb was served very rare instead of pink. Overall very disappointing. Monro go back to your roots good pub food at its best.

Staff all seem very happy in their work which is a rarity these days and were proud of their gasto pub of the year award which is well deserved. I booked a table here for my fiance's birthday on the back of the brilliant reviews and mouth watering menu on the website so as you can imagine we were excited about what to expect. Our first disappointment was when we discovered that the menu was significantly different and scaled back compares to the one we saw on the website, it was just our luck that what we wanted before we arrived wasn't there anymore. We both went for the Partridge Risotto which then arrived with all of two or three tiny pieces of over cooked, tough meat (we immediately ordered two portions of chips as well which were under cooked) The risotto it has to be said was excellent so it was just a shame the partridge wasn't of the same standard and there wasn't more of it. We were still quite hungry so we had a look.at the dessert menu which looked little more than your standard Weatherspoons fare so we left it and had two Margaritas instead (which were excellent) The big plus for this place is the staff. They were attentive from the start, sat us at our table early and did a very good job.So to sum up The Monro, was this experience worth travelling and paying just over £60 for? We had a good night but not really! But if you want over priced pub standard food then by all means book

We called in to the Monro in passing, on our way into Liverpool centre. We received such a warm welcome that we decided to stay for lunch. We sat by the open fire and felt very welcome, including our children. The meals were delicious and the surroundings were delightful. It was so good that we decided to have our evening meal there the following day. We will certainly eat there again when we next visit Liverpool.

My wife and I went to the Monro for dinner on a Friday night, and had good food and wine, with great service. If I recall correctly, I had pidgin for my main and my wife had lamb, and they were both cooked perfect. The only let down was the decor of the place. The lights had missing bulbs, there were random decorations in the dining room, etc. It's like the owners bought a pub, left everything as is, and got a talented chef in. If they put some effort into the decor of the place, I bet it would be a hot spot in Liverpool.

The log fire lunch was marvellous the two courses were adventurist the emphasis being on the starter, made for a very relaxing lunch with a wide variety of wines. This has all changed since the two course lunch has been withdrawn, now despite the food still being ok it has moved into the realms of a fast food cafe no longer relaxing and the emphasis returning to the pub it was during the 1970s. My friends and I have been customers for the last 10 years, I don't think any of us wil be returning unless there is a change back to the gastro pub it promises in its adverts.

As the title suggests, this is a noisy experience with the dining area surrounding a vibrant pub scene. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was pretty average and the wine was cool (merlot should be blood temperature). The meal started with an amuse bouche of carrot soup which raised my expectations for a great meal. In the end the food was ok, good atmosphere for a fun dinner date, but that's all.

A delicious meal in this gastro pub. The food was excellent. One of our best meals. The staff were helpful and friendly. Although we were eating at 7.30pm the scallops had already run out but our waitress had not been told this until she took our order to the kitchen. This was disappointing and we felt that we should have been told when we were given the menus that the scallops were running low. Had that happened one of us would have placed our order immediately. Sadly also there were errors in the bill. We were charged for the scallops which one of us had ordered but were not available. The price of one of our mains, the delicious hake, was more on the bill than on the menu. We did receive an apology and adjustment when we pointed out both errors but we could easily have not spotted these errors had we not checked the bill carefully. It spoiled an otherwise excellent meal.

Have been visiting the Monro since 2008 and always had a really good experience and excellent meals. However when I visited in July, everyone in our party noticed that the standard of the meal was not quite what we had experienced before. My main course at that point was not particularly hot but as we have always really enjoyed our visits and indeed recommended the place to friends we thought we would put it down as a one-off and give it another chance. Today however was appalling. One of our group has specific dietary requirements and always has a mushroom omelette for her main and we contact the Monro in advance and it is never a problem. However today, despite having contacted the restaurant two weeks ago and being told that the omelette was no problem, the chef sent the poor waiter out to say that they don't do anything that is not on the menu on Sundays and we couldn't have the omelette. A variety of excuses were given from having no mushrooms to no eggs to no time. A 'helpful' suggestion that there were plenty of things on the menu that she could eat was given the required response (if there were plenty of things on the menu that met her dietary needs we wouldn't have been pre-ordering her dinner for the last few years). My friend had to have chips and salad for her dinner and was made to feel like she was difficult and not worthy of a little extra effort. The time taken to discuss the issue was longer than it would have taken to cook the omelette. For all three courses, there were delays in bringing all the plates of food out and my friend begged us all to start so that ours would not go cold whilst she waited for both starter and main. Her nut roast arrived without the Yorkshire pudding that was mentioned on the menu and she said the nut roast itself was not cohesive and she left most of it. The beef was extremely tough (I can only surmise that this is cheaper meat than used to be served here) and one plate had to be sent back to the kitchen and I ended up leaving mine as I just couldn't cut through it. My friend also said that her lamb consisted mainly of fat. Afterwards we ordered coffees which were tepid at best and one of them was replaced. I was hugely disappointed. We have had some great times over the years in the Monro and the waiting and bar staff were great as ever. However it is clear that things in the kitchen have changed for the worse and we cannot expect the same quality that we had become used to at the Monro. I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone.

The answer is simple: soup, scotch egg, bangers and mash, fish and chips, a couple of pints, a carafe of wine and a small tip. I still view £50 as a lot of money but these days in a restaurant it is not so when I do spend it l like to think l have had a bit of value. All of the above starters and mains were very tasty and enjoyable, "proper recognisable options" with a drop of alcohol. We dined early evening and liked the atmosphere of the busy restaurant. You can't beat having enough space between tables and an unhurried ambience. Particularly attentive waiting staff made for an all round very pleasant experience. If you want to spend £50 on a meal out this is well worth considering.

Maybe one of the best pub meals you can get in Liverpool. A nice place with food being served at the table in the restaurant department. You can also just have an beer at the bar, but the food is worth a visit. it gets very crowded, especially in weekends, so you should book a table. Nice sunday roast, but they were out of Yorkshire Pudding and that was a little disappointing. (we couldn´get a table before 7pm)

We booked this restaurant as a birthday treat for my mother. It was OK and the service was good and attentive, but the food was very average. Roast beef tough and knives very blunt to hack your way through it. Vegetables coolish. So, as I say, OK and not a bad price, but they let themselves down with the meat. Desserts were good though, but coffee truly dreadful.

Visiting the Munro on dukes street, the welcome was warm & efficent. We had the tasting menu which was excellent and well worth the money. Having been to a number of top restaurants I can fully recommend the tasting menu. The food was fresh and delightful. The tasting menu has been cleverly devised so the wine compliments the food. The first course was a beetroot/strawberry amuse bouche which was full of flavour. The next course was pigeon which was compliment by the selected wine as was the scallops with Apple purée & edible flowers. The lamb which was cooked to perfection as it was tender and succulent. A palate cleanse followed and lead to the most fantastic dessert. I am not normally a dessert person however the fondant with orange purée was to die for. All in all the food was excellent as was the service. Well done to the management, the servers & the chefs. Thanks for a great evening.

Two of us arrived at 5.30pm and being told we're not taking walk-ins is not something any hungry person wants to hear, have been here before and the food was lovely though after the attitude today from the waitress I wont be back, at least 65% of the tables were empty with 2 reserved signs, I enquired about this and got we're not taking walk-ins.We left and called the number and a girl answered I asked "are you taking walk-ins, "Yes" was the response so I explained I'd been in and was told otherwise, she asked someone else who said they were, and then obviously the girl who was the greeter who said no as a party of 8 was due in, this was then explained to me, I advised well if I had of been advised of that I would of been happy to buy a bottle of wine and be patient, but in the circumstances we had decided to go elsewhere, seems a let down that management can't actually work out it's man hours for large groups being in leading to such a let down in service.

I have eaten here twice recently. On the first occasion it was a weekday lunch and it was very busy as it appeared to be graduation day for a local university. The food from the set menu was very nice and reasonably priced. Unfortunately the crab pasta starter had some shell in it but it was generally a very pleasant experience. There seemed to be 3 members of staff, one on bar, one lovely, friendly lady who was running round doing everything, absolutely rushed off her feet and another who occasionally popped into the dining room and then out again. This meant we had to go in search of our bill after waiting rather a long time for it but I wasn't particularly bothered by this.Several weeks later I hired the room above to host a meal for 12 people for my wedding day. This was absolutely fabulous. My parents had visited the day before to drop off the wedding cake, place-cards and favour bags and the room was beautifully set up and didn't need any additional decoration or flowers to look perfect. The size was just right for the number of people in our party and having an adjoining room for mingling and for an over-emotional bride to escape to was very useful. We arrived to canapes which were very tasty (and to some Prosecco for toasts, I don't drink but I'm told it was very nice) although I wouldn't have minded a few more of them for the price! We were given plenty of time to chat and take some photos before the main food was served. The staff were a delight, friendly, helpful, pleasant and completely unobtrusive although we never felt neglected and no-one managed to run out of drink.Everybody enjoyed the food, although I was a little disappointed that the chicken on the celebration menu didn't come with the sauce that the same meal came with when eaten in the restaurant downstairs as I found it needed a little moisture. The celebration menu had a nice choice range and due to some pickier eaters in our group we were allowed to offer an additional option from the standard menu (though in the end nobody went for it!)One thing I would suggest is that they have the toilet door fixed as the one that services the private room did not actually close, never mind lock, which is a little off-putting when you're hiking up a wedding dress! All in all it was an absolutely lovely experience and I'm looking forward to going back in the future to relive my special day. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the private dining experience to anyone hosting a party as they really helped the day feel magical.

Recently visited The Monro for a family birthday so we had quite a large table. We had the Sunday lunch set menu which is really reasonably priced. The portion sizes were really small, I had the Scallops to start which by nature are usually quite small but these were the smallest I've ever encountered. The main was satisfactory but didn't quite qualify for the 'less is more' sort of standard that they're trying to establish. The service was ok, we waited quite a while for the food but the restaurant was busy so that is expected. We had a baby with us and when we asked the staff for certain things to accommodate us, for example a bit of mash or a bit of fruit to keep him occupied, it seemed to be a real chore for them to help, we had to ask for things more than once and it took ages for the items to arrive.

We stayed at Crowne Plaza for a few days. Due to the crowds for the Queen Anne naming ceremony and a very long day, we decided to stay in to grab a light dinner. I had seen Gochujang wings on the both the bar menu and room service so was disappointed they were not available on the restaurant menu. However, the chef kindly offered to do them for me. Service was excellent. In fact, I'd say it could be scaled back a little as we were approached no fewer than 10 times during our meal and for some folks that could be overload. We enjoyed the warm sourdough, the Gochujang wings and a plaza burger. Good portion sizes and we were stuffed! The food is well-cooked. The burger could have been a little more tasty but no complaints in general.
