The Shahin in Spelthorne

A modest restaurant by appearance, but the food is top-level. My family and I have been regular customers of The Shahin for over 25 years. Their quality is second to none, and has remained consistently excellent throughout the years. Even as life has taken us all across the country, we have never found an Indian restaurant who can match The Shahin's taste or exemplary service. It's simply the best around.

We came last night for dinner and everything was excellent! The food was delicious and really well cooked. The mixed starters and the tandoori monkfish were particular highlights! The service was also brilliant and the staff are all lovely and extremely helpful and happy. Will definitely be back!

Sunday takeaway. Tandoori chicken at 10.50 you would expect half a chicken. A leg and a breast. I received the back of a chicken carcass. It tasted earthy and gritty. Very disappointing and will not be getting another takeaway from here again. It's nowhere as good as the food you get when eating in the restaurant itself.

A great local institution and the food is great too

Never buy from restaurant. No taste no ingredients and price is too high. I ordered haleem and other items however not a single item worth even half of its price. They are looting public and when I phoned then they said in next order they will adjust however I wasted my £32.

Glad to be back in the loop felt like it had lost the charm but now great again.

Terrible service. Waited half an hour for our starter then asked a member of staff to check with the kitchen on how much longer it would take. He never bothered so we paid for our overpriced drinks and left. Table next to us had to wait 90 mins for their mains. Staff could not have cared less so will not be going back.

I have been ordering from shahin for over 5 years and not once have I received a meal that is not 10* food. I'm really pleased with every meal I receive. Thank you to shahnin for always giving top quality food

A great place to get a decent curry I had the Goan monk fish curry it hit the spot nice taste and not murdered by chilly or spice 👍

Very very nice food, plenty of drinks t choose from, the only negative it was very cold in there!!! Didn't seem to be any kind of heating at all, (1 little electric heater on the end of restaurant) we were no where near it, other than that absolutely faultless,

The Shahin has always been one of our favourite local restaurants- food has always been delicious and service fabulous. As a non drinker I usually have very little choice wherever I go - soft drinks, maybe a J2O. Imagine my surprise when I arrive this evening and find a new cocktail menu that includes SIX mocktails! On the menu was one of my favourites - a virgin mojito - so I had to have it and it was delicious, perfect mix of lime, mint, soda and sugar. Probably the best Virgin mojito I’ve ever had! Thank you Shahin for making my day! Can’t wait to go again and try the next one!

Restaurant was surprisingly good, better than I had expected. Friendly staff as you would expect. I would say this was probably one of the better Indians that we've had for a long time.

Always get great food and service here. We tried the shahin magic as a starter and yes it was a totally unique experience. Absolute magic, nothing like anything ive previously experienced for indian starters and totally recommended. The chef has really created something special there. As usual every dish thereafter tasted terrific.

Have eaten in this place for over 15 years and always liked it. Ordered a takeaway for two. Tandoori mixed grill was dry and tasteless. The nam bread was wrongly ordered no mincemeat and very cardboard like. Very small container of mushroom side dish. The king prawn shashlik was good. £46 for two people not cheap. Phoned to raise my concerns and left number for manager. No one called back. Not again.

Went here for mothers day and they had the best butter chicken. Only thing to improve would be having jugs of water on the table as we had to keep asking for more glasses.

Visited Shahin tonight with family, service was terrible very rushed, had to ask for cutlery and plates and waited while food was getting cold ! All the dishes were very bland no flavour at all and the chicken in Jalfrazi and butter chicken dishes was processed sliced chicken not real proper chicken pieces. onion bhajis were disgusting they were so dense. I have eaten in many indian restaurants and can honestly say this is the worst food I have ever had certainly wont be going back there again !! They advertise NHS discount but when I asked about the discount (I am a NHS worker) they said they do not offer discounts to NHS workers? I usually go to the Indian Zest which is a few door along but as we had children with us thought we would try Shahin as they had a small side area which we though would be great for the children my advise is save your money and disappointment by not visiting this terrible restaurant!!

Worst restaurant to order from. It took them over 2 hours to make an order of butter chicken and kept telling me 10 minutes for a whole hour

Ordered for delivery, took them ali most 2 hours to deliver the food even though it said estimated time 1 hour and when we called them they were not helpful at all.

Apparently award winning, but many dishes taste the same as everywhere else. Korma, butter chicken and pasanda indistinguishable. If you're after a familiar curry it'll do.

It’s probably been over a year since I ate at the Shahin. It’s always had a very good reputation locally. I can’t comment on the more recent poor reviews in here. I was at the Shahin last Saturday night with friends and we all had a great meal. There was a good atmosphere, the staff were efficient and the food tasted really fresh. Initially, our popadoms were cold and a bit limp, but our waiter was happy to replace them straight away with some great fresh ones.

I had a great time eating a delicious meal yesterday in Shahin. I have ordered King prawn Puree, Badami Chicken, and Lamb chops. It was really amazing in taste. Tasteless, flavorless, the chef confused my butter chicken with the dessert. It was so sweet I had it both as a main and a dessert. Pun intended, Never ordering again. Nothing against you guys but you must learn to cook

The Shahin has quickly become my partner and I’s favourite Indian after a couple of recent visits, both on our own and with family. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it and the staff are very attentive. More importantly the food is outstanding. All of the starters and main dishes we’ve tried have been first class; full of flavour and of immense quality. Would highly recommend the Murgh Liver starter and Mixed Grill from the Tandoori specials. Looking forward to returning again in the near future.

Ordered takeaway Friday 9-4-21 7pm delivery 7.50 not arrived 8.05 phoned said driver on way ! 8.40 called again said we had not ordered although we had a email confirmation! Not good enough for a regular customer will not bother ordering or using restaurant again.

Another absolutely fantastic meal from The Shahin tonight. We are never disappointed. Great food, always delivered hot, on time and the quality is just out of this world. Whilst we are creatures of comfort ordering the same things we always do, we know that the Shahin do a great dinner. Thank you and happy to keep supporting local business.

Ordered a takeaway this evening for the first time in a while and it was excellent, will be our go to from now on! Massive portions and really tasty.

Used to be a regular here for a good while but they got too expensive however we decided to get a delivery from them as a treat. Well we were treated alright, treated like dirt, took forever to arrive and when it did it was COLD and TASTELESS, when we phoned and complained the man on the phone answered with the very words “well what do you want me to do about it?”, well the answer should have been something along the lines of “I’m really sorry this doesn’t usually happen and I’ll do my best to sort it” but no, so disgusting customer service award goes to you at The Shatin. I’ll look at it as money wasted, I won’t waste my money on you again.

Nice last meal before 'Lockdown two'. Food excellent and superb service. Recommended for when we come out safely from this latest awful hiatus.

Table for 3 booked for 8pm, sat down ordered 3 shandy,s and 6 poppadom, this took about 25 minutes, one starter ordered which seemed to take forever, 1hr 15mins we got our main meal which I did enjoy. A table of 5 came in after us and were eating before us and a couple came in about 9:20 and were fed and watered as soon as they came in, obviously regulars, and then to top it all the bill was placed on the table without being asked for. Not a particularly cheap restaurant which didn't bother me to much because of the food, but none of us appreciated seeing other diner's being served quicker. Sorry to say because of the time it took to serve us we won't be going back

Went to the restaurant last evening 25th/9/20, as we were early it wasn’t too busy then I felt as the evening progressed there were too many customers and the tables were the same distance apart like before COVID. My husband and I were very disappointed with the food, his chicken bland and tasteless, my lamb chops were so thin and lacked any meat basically a disaster, they had over booked trying to get in as many people as possible before 10o/c,the waiters were pleasant but didn’t come back to ask if the food was okay as they were so busy . On leaving we had to get through the customer’s queuing for their take away, no organisation or social distancing. On a good point we had a take away in the week and it was lovely hence will never eat in again especially at the W/e and only get a takeaway in the week when they are not so busy, not an enjoyable evening.

Took advantage of the Governments £20 off promotion. Had a really nice meal, staff were welcoming and efficient. Draught Lager ran out, which was disappointing. Toilets were a bit of a let down as the floor was flooded and not welcoming. Had a bit of a concern as I am convinced the popodom starter pots consisting of chopped onions, chutney, mint etc were being topped up when returned - not clean pots. However the main course was excellent and we went away happy.

We had a lovely evening and the food was half price which was amazing. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Had a takeaway last night, again, disappointed. We were going to go elsewhere but we have been going to the Shahin for 51 years. In those days you had to take your own containers in as takeaway containers were not around. I thought it’s been going down for a while now but said we would give it one more chance. The food was bland, tasteless and cauliflower was raw. Time to move on.

Food and service ok but no where near the standard of a restaurant charging 12.5%. We were having a business meeting and couldn’t ask for the discretionary service to be removed, but now feel slightly peeved that we paid in full.

The Shahin has introduced a compulsory 12.5% service charge (around Feb 2020). Not happy. After being a customer for 20 years (yes, really), I won't be returning.

Have eaten here lots of times over the years and the quality level of food has been inconsistent. Sometimes nice/lovely and sometimes poor. I think it may have changed hands a few times over the last 15-20 years?? Heard some good reviews lately and started giving it another try and has generally been really nice over the last 6 months or so. All of a sudden over the past few months, friends and family and myself have experienced problems at both ends!!! One person in particular having an almost immediate rear end effect within the restaurant, on the Friday just gone!! We had to leave. Also all three children have been ill!! This is the final straw.....won’t be going back!!! In fact I think they need to be investigated as this place is definitely suspicious!

Been going to the Shahin on and off for 40 odd years. It has always been superior to other Indian restaurants in the area. However my visit on Friday left me disappointed. Myself and my husband were put on a table next to a very loud group of 8 young ish blokes. So a table for two next to a rowdy table was a bit of a let down. Service was quick but maybe a little too quick it seemed like a production line and we felt we were kind of being rushed. Food was ok but nothing special like I have experience there before. Onion bhajis were greasy and tasteless

Not it’s usual standard. Out with friends for a meal, been here a few times and for the first time ever really didn’t enjoy the food or the staff. 4 of us, so we had lots of different dishes and repeats of what we’ve had before. It was all very flavourless and watery. I even asked if they’d changed chefs just got a no, didn’t even follow it up with a why. Staff seemed to rush us. We still had loads of food left on the table and still eating but numerous times were asked if we’d finished when it was clear to see we hadn’t So we eventually gave up got the bill and a doggy bag wondering if the food will be any better a day later. Won’t be returning

This review is for takeaway. For the second time in a row now, one of the paneer dishes we had ordered came with chicken in it. The first time it was all chicken this time there was a mix of paneer and chicken. I am at a complete loss as to how this happens. Whether it is who is taking the order who is preparing the order, it is completely unacceptable. I then called trying telling them what happened and hoping to get a refund, but they would not do this over the phone and I was not prepared to drive back in. I do believe it is possible but that they just could not be bothered to help. Thus, this is the last time we will ever visit or order from The Shahin, which is a real shame as up to this point it had been our daughter's favorite restaurant. So completely disappointed with the entire process.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Honestly the food we tried was a mix platter of grilled food which consisted of two variety of grilled chicken, lamb chops and king prawn which was very tasty and delicious we had two mains which was mouthwatering. Staff were really very friendly and attentive. Amazing service. If I'm around the ends again I shall definitely visit again. Thanks guys.
