An absolutely stunning experience and ranks as one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Superb food, superb service and great ambiance! Everything, every detail, was perfect. Every course was more intriguing, interesting and unique than the one before, with balanced flavours and a good range of wines, cocktails and low alcohol beverages too. We will absolutely be back for more!

- "Perfect in every respect. The food and wine were absolutely fantastic, certainly showcased British ingredients to their best. The staff were efficient, and the atmosphere was relaxed and happy. Excellence in everything they did, and whilst not cheap, it is worth every penny." Stalham, Tripadvisor - "My new favorite in London. Fantastic! The food was amazing, every course. They easily accommodated my aversion to sweetbreads and even changed the wine pairing. Service was perfect."

A unique place / it’s also the place for Rust Cafe ( which is the brunch / breakfast place ) Both are run by different teams / chefs ! The set is the set menu restaurant which is max for 14-16 people per evening ! The pricing is £90/- a head without drinks ..! The food is very good/ delicious and eclectic..! A mix of global cuisine dishes from British/ south American / Indian and Korean cuisine…! All very well made and delicious..! Service is attentive / pre drinks are in the garden … / then you move to main restaurant which looks rusty / unique interiors / quite cool actually…! We had chicken tikka masala as one of the courses / a beautiful bread toasted over grill / and had amazing noodles dish too ! The chocolate miso dessert was just awesome to finish the meal 🍽️ Budget- Meal for 2 is easily £250 with some drinks ! Verdict 5/5 For further information and more pictures please visit my page on instagram @s50ush

A truly special place. The chefs are extraordinarily talented and passionate about what they do. They serve astonishing dishes, some of which are based on nostalgia with a twist and others which take you somewhere you didn't know existed! One thing is certain - everything is delicious, locally-sourced and lovingly created. The front of house team are warm, friendly, helpful and fun. They are always willing to create something special for you to drink or just pour you a glass of your favourite tipple, whatever you need! Oh, and you also get to enjoy the very best playlist in Brighton!

I’ve been meaning to go to the Set for Some time now! And it didn’t disappoint at all! The food was fantastic to say the least! The only fault I could find was that there wasn’t more courses to enjoy! Every single course used some many different techniques and each one was fantastic! I honestly wish there was more to enjoy! I will be coming for more and I couldn’t recommend this place More! Dan and Marcin are phenomenal chefs.

So, I went with a group of six and obviously had the set menu, with the wine pairing. The food was delicious. However, although every course was really good and I had zero complaints, there was not one particular wow moment...which I was surprised about. Similarly with the wine pairing, it was good wine (and beer) but nothing to knock me out. I really missed a nice big red at the end of the meal (there was a beer pairing instead). Service was brilliant. Atmosphere was quirky. I would definitely go back and I will encourage others to visit, especially as the menu changes regularly. Sorry for not giving a 5*...maybe I'm a tough scorer!

This our first time at the new venue and the second time when the entire menu is chosen for you. We thought we knew what to expect and then wham! You are hit with taste and texture explosions in your mouth. Some old favourites never fail to disappoint but they are cleverly reconfigured into new dishes. While I mourn the loss of ‘chicken nuggets’ like no other, and miso Marshmallow, I was delighted to spot the red cabbage ketchup with a new bed partner and the miso icecream did not disappoint. Always inspired cooking with brilliant ingredients. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed and the supplier listings on the menu gave provenance to the food. We had the flight of drinks a little worried we would manage them all but they perfectly complimented the food… we couldn’t have chosen better Service was relaxed, informal and attentive. Ok maybe we have rose tinted glasses, we love the Set, we always have. And we haven’t been able to travel to find new tastes and flavours which probably created a bit of excitement for us. The food was epic, wonderfully presented, so many amazing and different tastes. The service was great, really engaging and interested in explaining the food and then asking for and recieving feedback. Only thing they need to improve is letting people know the restaurant is open, we did laps of the local roads waiting for it to look open, finally tried the door and there were people inside 🤦🏻😂 A great place, now to save the pennies to be able to go back 👍🤙

We went to The Set twice in the last month or so, the second time returning for the special Veganuary menu. Both times the service is really friendly and the food is really nice. Very inventive and wonderful flavours. We enjoyed it very much, and certainly will return. However i must point out, both times we left still a bit hungry. Not even just comfortable, but a bit hungry. In fact on the second occasion we had to drop off at Leons before the bus to get a quick burger. The Set is not cheap, and the food is wonderful as i said, but it needs more. Either an extra course or something more substantial. We are not espcially greedy or big eaters, but expect to leave satisfied. So please take this as constructive criticism.

We came here for a belated Valentine's meal. Of the 16 dishes we were served, 4 managed to impress (hence 3 stars rather than 2). The concept of their restaurant is a nice idea, however, the execution is fumbled. For the price (£200 set menu for two people plus one cocktail) this generally fell short of the mark. The first 5 dishes were served in a Japanese style with chopsticks. The rest of the dishes were mainly western with some Asian influence. Although the restaurant is small (seating between 12-16 customers), more than one Sonos speaker is needed or else the volume is at too high a level for the tables close to it. Individual reviews of each dish are below. * Warm butter tequila cocktail - it was nice and tasted like a pineapple syrup mulled wine. * Croquettes - they were okay, nothing special. * Otoro sashmi - this was truly awful. Very vinegary (as if to hide lack of freshness of the fish) and the rice was totally wrong; it was the incorrect rice type, hard, and undercooked without enough water to the point where the middle of the rice had a powdery texture. This was not a great start. * Oysters - also over-vinegared unfortunately. * Beef Bearnaise - this was very tasty. The beef was cooked wonderfully and the fried béarnaise cube paired nicely. * Tsukune chicken meatball - why was this chicken served after the beef? It was very mediocre and tasted flavourless after the beef. Did they get this from Itsu? * Oxtail Brodo - this was seriously undercooked. It was not even cooked to Al dente. We could feel the texture of the flour with each bite. The filling was alright though. * Milk bread cheeseburger butter - the bread had a perfect texture but the butter was essentially a Big Mac spread (American cheese, gherkins, mayo) which cheapened the dish. I love McDonald's but I don't love paying that much for it. * Pork collar - these slices of cured meat were delicious although I do not suspect the chef had much involvement here. * Winter tomato - this was fantastic! Very balanced flavours and textures. Refreshing and so tasty. * Scallop tikka masala - interesting and enjoyable, however, I do not know that the combination does much more than the sum of its parts. * Cod and bisque - very nice indeed. The fish was cooked beautifully and the sauce had a fruity citrus note at first and saffron flavour afterwards. * Sweet bread and bordelaise - a solid dish, all components cooked well and it was balanced. Just not a massive fan of sweetbreads compared to other meats/offal. * Iberico pork - this was good but could have been much better with a cut of meat which had a bit more fat, and a higher cooking temperature for more crispiness. * 24 month Gouda - this was like a hollandaise-less croque Monsieur. A twist on a cheese dish. * Delicia Pumpkin - this did not need to be pumpkin. It was simply too 'creative' for it's own good. It was sweet enough but the core flavour of pumpkin just did not really make sense here. One of the worst dishes. * Chocolate and miso - this was nice, but so close to a gu pot to almost be offensive. The toppings added a bit of crispiness and salt which worked. But it was fundamentally close enough that I was not sure it /wasn't/ a gu pot underneath, which was not a great place to be for a menu as exploratory and expensive as this.

We had a lovely evening at The Set, the food and drinks pairing were delicious - we particularly loved the pork belly, scallop and the chocolatey dessert. We enjoyed the drinks pairing and the variety of drinks included, the plum wine was a highlight. Service was friendly and prompt however, when we arrived we were all herded into the back terrace for a cocktail. It was crammed and uncomfortable, and exposed us to the hum and smell of the extractor fan and the smoke from the outdoor bbq grill. When a table is advertised from 6:30 you don’t expect to be waiting an hour to see the menu never mind receiving your first course. It also did take over 4 hours end to end, which could be cut down by removing this unnecessary intro. Luckily the food and drinks were great and we would go back!

The first time I visited The Set was two years ago, it was hands down the best restaurant I have been to in Brighton. I came again recently for a pre-Christmas meal but I was left bitterly disappointed and dissatisfied with the service and the quality of food. The room was stuffy, there was no good air ventilation and windows weren't open, it made both my partner and I feel extremely sleepy before the food was even served. The staff didn't initiate any conversations with us, but instead, he appeared friendlier and made more small talk efforts with other guests around the room. All the food courses that day were basic with no creative invention; but what triggered me the most was the fact that the food were mostly lukewarm, with some close to being on the cold side. A special mention to the SUSSEX PORK LOIN. To put it bluntly, the canteen at the University of Brighton can make something much tastier than this at lunchtime. I was amazed at how bland and unseasoned the pork tasted, not to mention it was rough to cut through. The cabbage which accompanied it was "supposed" to give the pork the complementary boost in flavour, but to me it was just salty without much taste than a light sweet mustard. Overall, if I was to spend around £80 per person for a meal, I will definitely not recommend anyone to spend anywhere near this amount to go here. I'd give this restaurant 5 stars two years ago, but now it is only worth 1 star due to the massive drop in standards.

If I was just eating dinner, it would get 3*s, but the breakfasts are excellent (delicious, decent size, lovely venue). The dinners though have two problems: 1. Everything that precedes main course is average - we tried 4 different snacks and starters over two nights and all were pretty tasteless. The mains were great though, the lamb in particular. 2. The red-headed male waiter has a significant attitude problem. Over two nights eating there I spent far too much time trying to be nice to him as he seemed a weird combination of cross, impatient and arrogant. Anyway, it looks good, it mostly tastes great and the service is (mostly) excellent.

We had breakfast this morning at The Set. I can honestly say it was the best breakfast of our holiday. I ordered the Veggie breakfast. It was absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly & presented lovely. My partner ordered the full English. We was impressed with the bacon! Our 5 year old Daughter had the pancakes. She gave us the thumbs up. Thank you so much for a lovely breakfast.

From greeting till end , this place was fantastic. Service We were served by this fantastic lady that I was overwhelmed by her service that I wanted to ask her name - unfortunately she was busy. Her attention to detail made me emotionally attached to this place. Food We ordered 1starter, 1 main with 1 side and 1 dessert each. Perfect timing, perfect portion and perfect balance of flavours. On this note, the price point was affordable and reasonable. All the food that I had was incredible. The tripe, the monkfish ceviche, the trout and desserts. Although, I’m not so sure about wagyu, it was little under my expectation since wagyu is not just a Japanese breed cow for me. It is about the marbling and composition of fat on the meat. Overall this place need to be 4.8. A place that I can’t wait to revisit. Thanks for the fabulous lady and the chefs who made those delicious food.

Nice feel to the place but the food was disappointing. Good vegetarian options, interesting and sounded great... but poorly done, flavourless.

Disappointing. We have been talking about going to the set for some time and did have high expectations. The food we got was worthy of a cafe, not an apparently Michelle rated place. I had some burnt tasting broccoli with bonito flakes sprinkled on it and an egg yoke. We had the beetroot Wellington to share.. That was terrible... Dry.. Uncooked... Bland and unexciting. The best part of the main was the side order of chips. For dessert we had the miso marshmallow and spiced pumpkin pie, the marshmallow was nice but the pie was again under whelming-dry and crumbly. This could be because we mainly order the vegetarian options but for a restaurant of this standard and price range every item on the (limited) menu should be the same quality.

Amazing brunch!!! Hidden gem !! 3rd visit - Little bit expensive. We booked an 11am brunch and the staff were rushing us. It was made worse by seeing posters for brunch on the following day, service being held until 3pm which meant we could have took it a lot easier the following day. However didn't ruin the overall experience and I'm sure we'll be back. Been back for brunch. Totally hit the spot.

You would be unlikely to find yourself in here on impulse. It's not on the main drag and even if you are passing you might miss it. But I recommend that you do take the detour round Recency Square (a stone's throw from Western Road or the sea front) and find the discrete front door to the Set Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What an amazing brunch find! Wonderful selection of tea - I believe I had the peach and pine one and it was just perfect. The food was also all so fantastic. I had a combination of ham/leeks/kale with a poached egg on top, served with soldiers to dip with. My husband had ox cheek with a some kind of pickled root on top. Both were unbelievable good. Our service was also very good even with it being busy on Mothering Sunday. Look forward to going back to try the dinner menu and to brunch again.

Waiting time for each course was long even when the restaurant weren't too busy. Loved the starters (ordered the brocolli), not too impressed with the mains (ordered the Monkfish and it felt like too much was going on, can reduce the paste).

We had high expectations of The Set and this will be our first and last time visiting! After reading lots of great reviews about the set menu we were very disappointed to be told when we sat down that they had ran out of many of the dishes. After research, we were really looking forward to trying the Monkfish, which they had sold out of. Their excuse was that Mother's Day is busier than most days. Not an excuse when it's the only fish dish on the menu and you should expect to be busier on Mother's day. The starters were good but not memorable. The mains were far from interesting. The beef short rib was served with what looked like a piece of cabbage from a bin and a soggy hash brown with no flavour. They really need to up their game to compete with the quality and innovative dishes you can get elsewhere in Brighton. The service was very Kurt and unfriendly and the price was extortionate for the quality of the food. It's a shame as the location and decor of the place is brilliant but some serious changes need to be made if this business is to survive!

Fantastic food, fantastic friendly knowledgeable staff. Great cocktails. The only thing I didn't like was them putting the service charge on the bill rather than letting you tip as you see fit. Not annoying enough to take a whole star off for though.

In my opinion, the best craft brewery taproom in Brighton. Big enough to accommodate those in the know, a brilliant selection of beers (they offer wine too), friendly and knowledgeable staff, 3 toilet
