I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was so informative and interesting. I enjoy whisky anyway and our guide Freya was so friendly and led the guided whisky tasting really well. The whiskies on display were done so very well and many were so quirky. The 5 whiskies we tasted were well chosen as examples of their areas and my husband who isn't a big fan also really enjoyed it!

We had a great trip here last weekend. Heather was our guide and she knew her stuff and spent lots of time with all of the guests including spending a bit of extra time with us at the end as one of our group had just started to get into whisky. Visited it on Saturday. The experience is a walking tour heavily reliant on (audio)visuals, complemented by a tour guide. A fun way to learn about the whiskey making process but in my opinion less interesting than visiting a real distillery. You get to choose one whisky to taste, which i think is not so much (compared to other tours). They used to offer more kinds to taste, but nowadays this is part of an more expensive ‘gold’ package.

Recommended for anyone who likes whiskey or is new to whiskey. If you like whiskey, I recommend the Golden Ticket (5 glasses tasting). Contents of whiskey production and introduction are presented in a variety of ways. Easily introduced (Korean interpreter provided if necessary) Those who have completed training can receive a discount at the relevant bar by presenting their certificate of completion. There is a small discount when purchasing a bottle at the last bottle shop. (2 pounds discount on bottles) I was pleasantly surprised because the staff was friendly and answered questions well.

From the moment we arrived, Archie welcomed us warmly and set the tone for an informative and enjoyable session. The selection of whiskeys was impressive, showcasing a diverse range from different regions. Archie shared fascinating insights into the distillation process, the nuances of flavor profiles, and the history behind each whiskey. The tasting notes were detailed and engaging, making it easy to appreciate the complexities of each pour. The atmosphere was relaxed with great use of interactive visual effects. Especially appreciated the personal anecdotes and stories that brought the whiskey to life. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned enthusiast, this whiskey experience is a must. If you’re visiting Edinburgh, the Scottish Whisky Experience Tour is a must! We chose the Silver Tour since we were with our four year old and needed to be responsible adult. plus, it’s the only one that allows children. The staff took great care of us, which made both us and the other guests feel at ease. Our host was fantastic I believe her name was Laura (correct me if I’m wrong). All tours include the opportunity to taste a whiskey, the gold tour culminates with a guided tasting of four whiskeys from the different whiskey Scottish regions. Selected to capture the very different characteristics of each region, the generous measures were talked through and enjoyed. We ended our tour with a visit to the Amber bar where once again we received a warm welcome. Staff were able to guide us towards whiskeys that we would enjoy. Bar prices were excellent, especially with regard to rare/old malts. Whilst we didn't sample the food in the restaurant it looked delicious. A special mention must go to Jim in the shop. Firstly I have to say that our guide Lottie was wonderful. Passionate about her work and very kind. The rest of the experience is not bad but it is very expensive for what it offers. It is dynamic and well explained but sometimes the connection to the speaker that translated the information to us was interrupted and everything was very fast for the next group to enter. Although I'm a Scottish Whisky aficionado with an extensive bottle collection over 27 years, I had been planning on seeing this exhibition for some time. I was not disappointed! I arrived first thing in the morning and was the only person on my tour. The guide was very well informed and educated on some of the finer points of the dram that I didn't know. Probably because my nip doesn't last long once it's poured into a glass. However, I enjoyed the scratch and sniff card and my neat Ardnamurchan tipple and for the very first time I used a stopper of water to add just 4 drops of water. To my amazement, I never believed that the reaction would make the aroma even more intense. You end the tour in a bar where you can sample to your hearts content but not if your driving of course! On the way down you go through the shop and if you have a spare £50k you can walk away with a rare 50 year old.......whisky that is lol!!! So, I highly recommend a tour no matter the cost but don't be scared to ask for a concession if you're over 60. Seeing all that value in the water of life has inspired me to catalogue my portfolio of rare unopened bottles! Any takers?

Ok, before this tour, of my own experience, I was under the impression that scotch tasted like burnt paint thinner with a little sharpie marker tossed in. We signed up for the Gold tour, which included some comparative tasting at the end. It was a very informative tour that explained the process of making scotch. I learned a lot. The tasting at the end helped me understand that each area of Scotland has distinct flavors, and that some are quite palatable. Even though I’m probably not going to become a scotch aficionado, it was a really great learning experience and it was quite enjoyable!

Our guide was great. The only problem is that we felt like we were on a hurry. The whole experience is made up of different rooms to explore and different visiting groups are in a line. There was such a noise that I had to read our guide's lips while tasting whiskies.

This is a long overdue review. We visited in October 2024. Such a informative tour. Emma was a fantastic guide: funny, inclusive, and patient. She helped us choose several bottles to bring home, including our new favorite: the Morrison Mac-Talla Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Flora.

Nice experience but felt a bit like a tourist trap. Still worth doing while visiting Edinburgh

This was such an awesome tour! Very informative. Tour guide was energetic and friendly. All tastings were well thought out. We added the dinner on and really enjoyed that meal with an additional pairing. The dinner easily accommodated my GF and shellfish free diet.

This place - the collection, the ambience, the miniatures! My god! What a beautiful shop and a wild collection! I didn't buy anything as I had to carry light, but I'm splurging here on my next visit! 🤌

I did the Taste of Scotland and it was awesome! It included a Platinum Tour which was quite the experience. I loved getting to try all the different whisky regions in a non-intimidating setting. Aiden was a fantastic host. I learned a lot and especially liked the scratch-and-sniff portion of the night! The food at the amber was very good. It was fun getting to pair food with whisky which is not something I do often. Usually I have wine pairings, so this was a fun change. I especially liked the Chicken Balmoral and the Venison. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was incredible and could end all other Sticky Toffee Puddings that I’ve ever had lol.

Lovely food and service. Just a bit cramped and a few ‘bumps’ in the crowded space. All good though.

I now know the meaning of ‘hidden gem’. My partner and I recently moved out of the inner city and so we’ve been looking for local places to eat and have a nice glass of wine. We came across Junk on Google maps and thought we would give it a try. I am so happy we did… The food was amazing!! You could either pick several small plates from the menu or go for ‘Dealers choice’ which is the chefs take on a tasting menu. We decided to select a few things from the menu and we were not disappointed. All plates were delicious and generous in size. We didn’t leave room for dessert but could see other tables around us have something… it looked divine!! The staff were all so lovely and service was very prompt. We ordered a lot of food and also had alcohol (they have a great choice of wines BTW). The total bill was just over £100, service included so very reasonably priced. I’m so happy we found this place, it’s my new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh and I didn’t even need to go into the city and pay for parking! They have a Sunday roast which we will definitely be going back for. Thanks so much Junk :) **Up date - so we went back for the Sunday road: - The beef was beautifully cooked - Very generous portions of the veg which were all well seasoned - Giant Yorkshire puddings - We also got a side of the leeks; I was say its a must. Super yummy -The creme brûlée in the best in Edinburgh IMO ;)

Highly recommended! The "Elliot Special" pannino was the best pannino I've ever eaten. The price is reasonable. The restaurant is centrally located, and the service is friendly and fast.
