An exceptionally good fish restaurant! I had the winged skate which was something really special. The selections of wines were very good, too. The oysters were very expensive for what they were which ruined things a little and the side dishes were also tiny. However the service was lovely as was the atmosphere.

Fish and Chips was as expected. Good quality and tasty fish. Chips weren't seasoned and the salt shaker on the table barely let any out. Tartare sauce and Aioli were very good. Other dish was Skate wing which was also good. We did end up waiting at least 45 minutes for food but they gave us complimentary drinks to make up for it

We loved The Scallop Shell!! Particularly want to mention how brilliant the staff were. Everyone we communicated with was so friendly & attentive and the food was delicious.

We ate the shared platter for two. Out. Of. This. World. Delicious red mullet, hake, monkfish tails, juicy scallops, mussels and huge langoustines, the largest I've eaten. All beautifully cooked with chips that on the day we were able to have more of, without charge. The fennel salad that accompanied this dish was exquisite. Just right. This was the most wonderful lunch I've ever eaten, bar none. Delightful service from enthusiastic servers, knowledgeable and friendly. Our server advised us that the sharing platter is not always on the menu and dependant on what is bought from the Newquay fishermen. Run, don't walk, (you absolutely have to book) to this outstanding restaurant. Our visit entirely justified our day trip from Cardiff, although not intentionally the focus of the day. Fabulous.

Lovely restaurant and the food was great. Had the fish cakes and oysters. Very nice. Disappointed with the tea. A teabag costs pennies yet we got one small cup of tea.

Delicious sea foods! I loved everything I got - from the fish and chips to the whole crab, white prawns, fishcake, and scallops! Definitely worth the visit. The chairs were only a bit inconvenient as it was difficult to put my jacket and bag on it, but overall a great place. I was able to take a look at how the chef was taking and managing orders, and I can say everyone was very professional.

Been here thrice everytime we go to Bath. Loved the scallops and fish and chips. Friendly staff. Indoor seating is better during cold weather so reserving in advance is advisable.

My friend and I were discussing whether we should pop in while waiting at the bus stop opposite or visit another day. It looked a l8vely place, with love!y large windows. However, my friend watched the male staff take out the bin and empty into large one down the side, and have a quick smoke. Shockingly, he immediately returned behind the counter and started working. No hand washing. I am unable to see very well, so I had to be told, and my friend suffers from OCD. So, we're unlikely to dine there. It's a pity as I'd only recently read that it was voted one of the UK's best fush & chips eatery.

On Friday at 2 pm, we visited The Scallop Shell and were pleased to find a table available even though we arrived early. To start, we shared a couple of oysters and scallops, both of which were wonderfully fresh and full of flavor. For the main course, we enjoyed **sole and mullet**, both cooked beautifully and served with crispy chips—though they were a touch too salty for our liking. The staff were friendly and welcoming, though we did have to remind them about our drinks and ask twice for sugar for our tea. Despite these small hiccups, the overall experience was lovely, relaxed, and delicious —a great spot for seafood lovers!

Strained service, average food, exorbitant prices. It was a nice looking place, and we entered this restaurant as a couple, but no one came over to seat us, then behind us came a group of 7 people, so that's 9 people all crammed together in the doorway. With basically no room and no lounge area to sit. This was a recurring theme during the evening. groups at the door not being dealt with. And holding the door open letting the cold in Even the head chef was shouting to clear the door, but it was a painfully slow process Finally we got seated, asked for sparkling water and got brought still. No one took our drinks order. It was only when eventually our food order was taken that they realised we didn't have drinks. I wouldn't say it was overwhelming busy, the staff just weren't up to the job. There was an American woman who was a cut above the rest, but she was fighting a losing battle. The main problem with this place though is that the food is incredibly average and embarrassingly overpriced. We had oysters to start with and they were fine and the onions in vinegar were great. For main we both just had standard fish n chips. And I think I was most shocked how the batter on the top of the fish was kind of bready and soft, it was crispy round the sides. But overall just very average. The mushy peas were nice, even though you only got a thimbles worth, and the tartar sauce was nice. It just wasn't anywhere near worth the best part of £100.

I've wanted to try this restaurant on visits to Bath having not booked the friendly staff were able to accommodate us. My companion can't eat fish but there are some good alternatives, I had the Tuna to start which was excellent followed by the Octopus which was sadly tough when it should have been tender. I would visit again but probably go for some fried fish.

Lunch time Fish and Chips deal for 12.50 including a mug of tea, mushy peas and tartare sauce. The service and quality of the food was great value. Will definitely come again.

We arrived 25 minutes early for my reservation and was rudely refused service, despite several empty tables being available. I was asked to wait outside instead of being accommodated, which is unacceptable. This is not how customers should be treated. Very disappointing experience

I had a fantastic lunch here with five friends, and it was an experience to remember! The scallop shell dish was a standout – beautifully presented and cooked to perfection – while the fresh fish was bursting with flavor and showcased the chefs’ expertise. The service was lovely, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The chefs were not only skilled but also friendly, which added a warm, personal touch to the meal. Located conveniently in the city centre with on-street parking nearby, it’s an excellent choice for a group lunch or any occasion. A truly memorable dining experience – we’ll definitely be back!

We came here for lunch on a Saturday, and it’s was great! The first thing you see is the kitchen which is open, and the chefs are all friendly. Service was brilliant, and the food was fantastic! We had the oysters, prawns, scallops and sea bass. Be warned, portions are a little larger than you’d expect, especially if you live in London. Overall, the ambience is lovely, very relaxed, the food is tremendous, and the service is friendly and professional. Would highly recommend, definitely one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve been to in the UK!

Spent the weekend in Bath, and this was my favourite of the places we went - I am a huge fan of seafood! We weren't super hungry due to the late lunch we had, so we ordered a bunch of the appetisers to share. We had the grilled prawn, the boiled shrimp, squid, mussels, and scallops. My favourites were the scallops and grilled prawns. The scallops were perfectly cooked. My hubby loved the mussels. We also had an order of sourdough bread to soak up the juices from the mussels. All of the seafood tasted super fresh! I'd highly recommend this place and will 100% would come back here.

I’ve been here before, and while the fish and chips was good, it was quite pricey—especially considering you’ll leave smelling like a fryer. This time, I went alone, and they seated me at the balcony without asking if I minded, simply because it was the only available table for two. The starters are listed as sharers, and when I tried to order two sharers with sides (which would likely have been more expensive than a main), the waiter refused and insisted I order a main. The way they said it was quite dry, almost rude. The person who brought the food was a bit friendlier, but they never asked how the food was, if I enjoyed it, or even at the end of the meal. The scallops I had for starters were lovely and fresh, but the fish and chips were a real disappointment. For £23, I expected much better. The portion wasn’t big, the fish was greasy, and overall it didn’t look or taste like a dish worth the price. I’ve honestly had better fish and chips from a corner shop.

Visited The Scallop Shell for a family members birthday in December. The food was truly delicious and it was lovely to enjoy a really good “fish and chips” in a sit-down restaurant. I had tuna for starter and Cornish Haddock & chips for my main, both were absolutely delicious (the piece of haddock was so think, it was amazing) also the sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely unreal. The only thing letting this place down was the service. The very grumpy waiter who basically grunted brought over the wrong items on several occasions and had no idea whether he was coming or going. It’s a shame because this is a great place to dine, the service just needs some work.

Amazing experience at The Scallop Shell. It was my first time in Bath and I just had to try this restaurant and I’m so glad I did. Would highly recommend the Scallops, the Prawn Cocktail & the Smoked Salmon.

The service was super friendly and accommodating. I had the seafood platter and my daughter had the gurnard. Both meal were absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh, it was a really memorable meal. I highly recommend.

Super fish and chips ! Welcome, service, food, wine all very good. We had lunch menu which was perfect for us. Other diners were getting well stuck in to what looked like great crab and other shell fish and huge portions of fish and chips.

Fantastic fish and chips. Really could not fault the food at all. Fish was fresh, cooked perfectly in crispy batter. Not at all greasy, just crispy and light. Chips were hand cut and properly cooked. Mushy peas were homemade and fantastic - not sad tinned failures - which is to be expected, but some higher end restaurants still don't make their own. Service was good, atmosphere good. I guess the prices are high but the food makes it worthwhile. The restaurant is a short walk away from the centre but 5-10 minutes max as Bath is so compact. If you want to eat fish in Bath go here.

We had a really lovely meal here . The prawn cocktail was delicious, and the fish and chips were so fresh and tasty. The staff were all brilliant and very friendly. Thank you, especially to Alexandero! I have a phobia of dogs & he made sure that I wasn't sat near any . Also, when one did come in downstairs, he came upstairs to my table to let me know and suggested ways to avoid it. He went above and beyond and was really respectful. We look forward to coming again . Highly recommend this place. 😊

The food was good but the atmosphere was stark and cold and the service was slow and not very friendly. Sitting down stairs means you leave smelling of smoky burnt cooking oil.

An excellent seafood restaurant with friendly helpful staff. The cooking and flavours were spectacular. The restaurant has a pleasant vibrancy and the food is prepared within view of the diners. If you’re looking for a restaurant in Bath, you must try this special place.

We have had plenty of fish and chips in the 60+ years of our lives but none compares to this place . The quality , flavour , taste and the staff themselves were amazing . If we could give them 10 we would . The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and we can see why you have to book . . Would absolutely recommend...Wish we lived closer . My second time visiting Bath and I did not regret going back here! Went with my family and every dish was delicious, the staff were lovely, and atmosphere was very relaxed. I’d recommend the oysters and confit tuna!

Good was wonderful and cooked beautifully. Pricey, but very nice. They were very busy, but after taking our initial order we were not offered another drink or dessert and it took quote some time to be able to call someone over to give us the bill.

I saw this restaurant getting mentioned on Reddit and decided to give it a try. Overall, the food is good (fish is cooked to perfection), the atmosphere is good, and the service is great. One thing that caught my eyes is the cutlery they use, especially the mugs (Cornishware). If you are interested in them like I do, there is a store called Rossitier a few minutes walk away you should also try to visit.

Everything was so delicious. Best ever fish and chips. Amazing grilled fish. Delicious oysters and scallops. Chocolate mousse to cry for.

We a group of seven people with children had a lunch in The Scallop Shell today. The restaurant is in a very short walking distance to the city centre. We had our table on the first floor. The environment is very comfortable, staff is nice, and the foods are lovely. The oysters were fresh. We like the scallops very much. There is kids menu if you have young children with you. Highly recommended if you like seafoods.

This is absolutely up there with the best fish and chips I have ever had. The batter was light and tasty, fish was delicious and chips perfect. The staff were excellent and the wine list was small but varied.

The award-winning restaurant is well-deserved for its reputation. The scallops and prawns among them are delicious, so be sure to try them! But fish cakes are very ordinary, so avoid them if you can!

Visited here on a trip to bath, after the pandemic the thought of eating fish and chips sent shivers down my spine because I had eaten it far far too much on the lockdown walks, but I had it yesterday and wow! Now those shivers have gone, the thought of oily pale fish and soggy chips is no more. The scallop shell served me incredibly tasty flakey cod in the most crispy edged batter with no oil dripping out , the most incredible fluffy chips and mushy peas and tartar sauce so full of flavour and freshness. Great friendly staff, lovely decorated restaurant and a menu brimming with lots of other fantastic looking options Excellent all round.

Beautifully fresh seafood, excellently cooked, with a friendly and professional approach to service.

Although we went without a reservation, we were lucky and there were free tables. The service was excellent, very kind and friendly. We really liked the food, especially the Scallops. The fish dishes weren't bad either. The cod with a light batter, not at all oily and the monkfish very juicy despite being grilled. Without a doubt a highly recommended place.

The food was amazing, had mussels to stay, then had fish and chips, lunchtime special, £12.50 for 2 pieces of cod, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Shared a bottle of wine, was all delicious will def be going again. Went there for my birthday, had shellfish platter,was amazing.

Wow! What a wonderful evening. Starting with the warm and friendly greeting from the hostess and then the efficient and attentive service throughout the evening of Stefano and Deepika. The ambience was lively but not intrusive. We enjoyed delicious scallops for starters, has a delicious tomato and picked onion salad and then the best fish and chips! Followed up by the best stick toffee pudding I have ever had…..and I have had a few! 😂

THE BEST FISH & CHIPS EVER!!! We had the most Lovely welcome from the gorgeous smiley chef as we arrived, all staff were great. But the food….Mussels, Scallops and King Prawns to start all bloody delicious. My husband had the Hake, it really was the best tasting battered fish we’ve both ever tasted and the chips…wow, so good we had a second portion. If in Bath, The scallop shell is a must!!! Thank you

The best fish and chips I think I'll ever eat. Fish was super fresh with a crispy batter, mushy peas were incredible, as was the tartare sauce and chips. The curry sauce was amazing. Overall an amazing place to eat, with a fantastic team behind serving, preparing and cooking.

Best fish and chips I have ever tasted. I had the privilege of tasting the food 6 years ago and now, while planning a trip in the UK, one of the reasons we visited Bath was to eat again in The Scallop Shell. I come from France. The fish was so fresh and well cooked, it melted in the mouth. The batter was very light and crisp. The chips were nicely cooked as well. The mushy peas were delicious as well as the tartar sauce. A perfect dish. What I didn't think much of when ordering was the side of anchovy butter and sourdough bread but it absolute blew me away, very tasty. 10/10 would come again.

The seafood is so fresh it's hard to imagine eating anywhere else for scallops and fish and chips. A guide once told me "For the best fish and chips, it's best not to get it from a pub. It's not a bad option but ...come on". With that I found myself at Scallop Shell and presented with fish and chips, scallop and prawn. All of which just makes me wish I was in a private booth so I could have eaten with my hands as it was so good. If you're on a tour of Bath or in the area for a few hours I highly recommend this place. Hands down the best fish and chips and huge scallops. The service was great as well, quick and friendly and they provide a bowl of lemon water to help eliminate any signs of food from your fingers.

Delightful seafood restaurant with warm, friendly hospitality and perfectly prepared seafood. Beautiful open kitchen and the freshest ingredients. The Portland oysters were sweet and delicious. Love the salt cod cake. The prawn cocktail had a creamy cocktail sauce that needed more acidity. The cod fish was fried in a light crispy batter. I'd love to try everything on the menu.

Had the most fantastic fish meal, everything was freshly cooked, the fish batter was so crispy crunchy, beautifully cooked chips, the fish cake was delicious, my grandson didn't want to much so he was given a child's fish nugget portion which was just right for him. We sat upstairs which was just nice for us all, with heater's and blankets if needed. I can honestly say it was the best fish and chips I have had in a long while, my family really enjoyed theirs as well. Well worth a visit, just amazing.

We took our son and girlfriend here for a family dinner. The setting and feel of the place is fabulous. The food and service are excellent. The only downside is that the kitchen is open plan to the restaurant (which fabulous visually) and, it seems, the kitchen ventilation is either not working or extremely poor. As a result, all of us now have clothes and coats which smell of cooking fish and hot oil! Due to this we wouldn’t ever return which is a shame as the food and service are superb.

Little gem in Bath, freshly cooked fish, great chips and a delicious home made tartar sauce. The Lunch special, with a mug of tea is good value
