Not good ordered breakfast and made a big mistake to sit next to the open plan kitchen where I witnessed one of the cooks lift her cap up wipe her forehead with the palm of her hand then proceeded to open a loaf of bread and arrange it ready for the toaster sadly won’t be going back again as up till that point I really enjoyed going there for breakfast now that image is stuck in my head now

The service here is terrible, no smiles, no please or thank yous, left standing at the bar for an age waiting to be served at an empty bar. Got served by 2 different female members of staff and neither thanked me for my business and one of them dropped some of my change on the bar and not even an apology. Manners cost nothing and a smile goes miles. If your not happy doing doing your job of customer service, get a job thats not customer facing. My worst Wetherspoons experience 0/10

Me and friend came here for lunch after our Christmas shopping and it was very disappointing. Not only was our food cold but it tasted disgusting. Bacon was cold, onion rings were watery and soggy, chips were over done. The cutlery was dirty and had marks all over it. The. And To top it all off we witnessed one of the servers wiping down the table with a used napkin that was covered in sauce. The toilets on the other hand were really nice I would of rather ate my meal in there than in the restaurant. Would of probably been a lot cleaner. Will definitely not be returning

Food was ok, bar and floor staff excellent. But the whole Covid thing has come off the rails here. No wonder Corby has so many more cases than the national average. On Sunday, I saw no real distancing. No enforcement, or encouragement even, to fill out the contract tracing app. People were walking in and sitting down at tables before staff had got around to clear and clean them properly. I was warned that it was going to be like described, but went anyway. I won't be returning until after Covid.

During Covid 19, I visited the Saxon Crown for a lunch date with friends on it’s real-opening, My first time in there actually as I had heard a lot of good things from family & friends who are regular costumers in there for drinking!!! Being as open as I am I will try anywhere with a great review however I was very very disappointed: No staff present when we walked through the door to give us the rules on what’s allowed & not allowed during Covid 19 re-opening wasn’t greeted or welcomed at the door told where to sit?? although I had to ask one member of bar staff present to be told sit at any table we choose that’s not taken but do not wonder around the pub to much & keep distance at all times fairly put & totally agree. Apparently We had to fill in a little form with our details on it at the door but we didn’t actually know any of that as no one insisted it was necessary for them to have for safety. Everyone else was no where to be seen to have told us what the forms were for. The floor was empty of staff. Yes granted during Covid 19 only so many can work & still keep within the guidelines of the rules. Listen I am not bad mouthing the place but I am saying there is absolutely a large amount of room for improvement. The pub & bar itself Is lovely & very open spaced during Covid 19. I was very impressed with how staff moved the area around to suit distance spacing & everything was ordered using the Saxon crown app the only contact we had with a member of staff was when she brought our food & drinks over to us, no gloves, no mask no wipe of the table again before placing our food down. No pleasant welcoming smile or enjoy your food just walked off. Yet in this bar/restaurant that was the only thing that impressed me decoration & how large & spacious the place was. Sadly the food was absolutely disgusting it was processed frozen bought in food & nothing hand made at all, Working in kitchens most of my life I was disappointed with the FOOD, I can make a better meal at home, it was disgustingly dry & burn’t, burgers & buns, my friends food was either burnt, dry or cold. salad was wet raw & soggy thrown on hot food to wilt, (No wonder prices are low. (but you get what you pay for literally!!) Drinks are fairly over priced & the glasses are easily deceiving they look long & big but compared to another proper sized glass their small so drinks aren’t a full pint etc you pay £1.60 for likes Pepsi & is small & wife to make it look like your getting more your not: Pepsi from the bar not poured from a can into the glass tastes very flat distilled & watery. Not to mention following all the rules of covid 19 on not moving drinks around back n fourth or walking around the place to much that you could potentially spread virus or germs or taking our plates & glasses outside for safety reasons. We decided to leave our drinks on the table as requested from staff to ensure safety. We popped outside for a cigarette, when we returned a full pint of larger & half a glass of Pepsi was missing the waitress had cleared the table of everything. We were not finished yet when we walked back in & i saw a member of staff I asked where our drinks had gone & there was no apologises or offer of a free drink to replace the drinks we had, it was a shrug of the shoulders & replied I thought you had left. Easy mistake I can understand but when I had explained we were just outside, again no offer for replacement of drinks so instead we just left & decided to make that my first visit & VERY LAST VISIT. Saxon crown isn’t a place you should eat at....They should get rid of the restaurant area & turn it into a full bar/club/B&B as hotel room is a bit of a stretch to say as the rooms aren’t special or big & en-suite the place needs a clean.(don’t shine a black light) ** 2 stars (rating)

Ordered an alcohol free beer with my meal as I am pregnant and not drinking - was given it and THEN asked for ID. Since I didn’t have it on me, I said I was happy to take a different drink. This wasn’t allowed. I was not prepared to pay for another drink - why was I not able to swap my drink? I accepted the T&Cs on the basis that if I ordered an alcoholic drink, I would need to provide ID. This was alcohol free. On top of that, if you OPEN the beverage and serve it before asking for ID - you are breaking the law. So who is wrong here? Sometimes you should put your customers before your need to be so uptight - but this is the problem that this branch has. It’s horrendous, go to the Samuel Lloyd instead.

The food arrived quickly and the portion size was huge. My daughter and I both had Gammon of varying sizes. Lots of side dishes. We ordered at the bar for main and used the app for dessert. When the food arrived we had to fetch our own cutlery and sauces and the food was pretty much dumped on the table without an enjoy the meal. No check back either... this is clearly a staffing issue that is easily fixed.. last time we went staff we ok and food poor... now it's the other way around. Although the bar staff were helpful just the waiting staff that were poor.

This is the first time I have stayed at a Wetherspoons hotel but if they all of this quality it won't be the last. The Saxon Crown is a big pub with rooms above. We stayed on a Monday so the bar was quiet. I can't comment on how much noise filters up to the rooms on a weekend. My room was modern, well equipped with a nice reference to Corby in its heyday during the steel making years. We didn't eat dinner here but the breakfast was very good. And to get 2 pints of beer in the bar for under £5 for both was a real bonus. We will be visiting Corby monthly this year and this will be the hotel we will hopefully be able to stay at.

Took my family for a meal and we were taunted by a doorman that seems to have a personal vendetta towards us, this is the second occasion where he has approached us as a family and seems to like to intimidate us! This particular doorman has for the second time in last few months stood by our table watching us continuously in particular my teenage daughter! This behaviour is unacceptable and whenever we have questioned him he calls for back up from his colleagues, we asked for management who were quite frankly unprofessional taking away our drinks and asked us to leave for no apparent reason at all!

Not great this time had breakfast and said we had a dairy allergy and butter came out with them so there was no guarantee any of the food was cooked and plated with a dairy allergy in mind. I have stayed at quite a few wetherspoons hotels around the country and this is no different to others in the fact that the rooms, beds and showers are fantastic and the food and beer is great value and perfect for working travellers however this place had some very poor staff. Our food was literally shoved at us by a very unfriendly waitress, the neighbouring table complained that the pizzas they were served were cold and she literally told them it was tuff. You can seriously tell that the girl hates her job, she never once asked if the food was ok or did we need anything. Shame as the rest is up to Tim Burtons high standards just not the staff.

I came in this morning (Sunday) for a breakfast. At 1030am it wasn't especially busy and got served relatively quickly at the bar. That was about as good as it got. The tea/coffee machine station was very dirty and machine wasn't working so left many customers waiting for hot drinks. I finally got my food after a 15 minute wait. I do not mind waiting if the food is worth it and I was incredibly disappointed. Hash browns so overcooked they looked liked they had been sunbathing for 3 days straight, eggs completely overcooked and also toast came without butter and I had to wait nearly 20 minutes after receiving my food to finally get hold of the single member of staff who appeared to be serving.

Food is very much based on fast and 'ping' food. However, this is reflected in their pricing so if you are looking for value for money with half decent food this is the place to go. I must say it was a quick visit. We were passing through Corby when one of us said they could do with the loo. The driver knew that Wetherspoons was near and he drove about 1/2 mile and parked the car. We were just a few strides from the Saxon Crown so we went in. While one of us headed for the loo the rest of (3) went to the bar and ordered coffees. We filled our cups and then sat at a table. We chatted and drank our coffees and also had refills. I don't usually drink coffee in Wetherspoons but there's a first for everything. We all thought that it was prudent to use the loo before we resumed our journey as we didn't know where our next stop was. Once we were satisfied we were all ready to go we left the Saxon Crown and drove out of Corby.

This pub seems to have become our local. I remember when it was the Westgate department store. We bought everything from washing machines to underwear there and even booked holidays at the travel agents. But I have to say that its transformation to a pub and hotel has been done well. The food is very good and you can see it being cooked. The staff are friendly and the prices excellent, especially with the free coffee refills. The only factor that I don't like is the way the smokers stand outside the door so there is always a nicotine cloud to get through going in and out. There were some very loud drinkers in there last Wednesday lunchtime and when the disabled toilet was unlocked for me to use one of drunkards went in and wee'd all over the floor. Not nice. A large bar with plenty of trade, a fair atmosphere and the menu offering exactly what every other Wetherspoons does - it's a shame that they seem to lack imagination in straying from the same old 'winning formula'. Having said that, it's very good value, with most drinks very cheap too. More staff would help, in that queuing seems to be inevitable, and the existing staff do certainly work hard. Previous comments regarding cleanliness and table-clearing reflect this, I'm sure...

I just decided one morning to change my shopping habits and drove out of Peterborough to Corby, about 30 mins in car and traffic. I came upon a great Pub called "The Saxon Castle" and what a refreshing change it made from your regular pub. The staff were happy and good natured , the food I ordered was of great quality and delivered quickly, there was a great selection of beers and ciders and my favourite thing was that I did not have multiple members of staff buzzing round me whilst I was eating asking me "Is everything ok?" So all in all a great visit. And will happily return.

Seven of us went for a drink and meal after work. Good choice of beers and other drinks, and good efficient bar staff. Despite several of us ordering a similar meal but requesting various different dips and sauces that were not standard, all the food was delivered as ordered. The pub wasn't overly full but had a nice atmosphere and was a pleasant pub to visit.

It's disgusting dirty place! Everything is dirty - tables, seats, carpet. The restaurant was half empty but the staff doesn't pay attention to customers. Even after an hour, the dirty glasses and plates remained on all tables around. We didn't waited any longer and left.

Visited for early morning breakfast with work mates after a Nightshift. Friendly service, nice clean and comfortable venue. Been a couple of times but on the last occasion, the breakfast wasn't as nice as the first. This time it was the same. The square sausages were cooked too long and were hard. The poached eggs were small and like bullets. The toast was only singed on one side! It was very dissapointing! We all agreed it wasn't as nice as the first visits. We shall now try another place for our brekkies for a while .

It was amazing place --- a year ago! But yesterday we are come back and noticed that the pub is completely changed. Place wasn't even busy but it was really dirty! The tables was covered with dirty glasses and plates ( 4 tables was free to sit - but it was dirty) , the sits was so dirty with no one sitting at them, i made a photo with a piece of butter on it. We didn't even order the food. We have ordered a drinks and within an hour no one removed all these dirty mountains of dishes with the remains of food. We are decided to leave this place - its a shame!

Queue at the bar was ridiculous. Only 2 people serving and there attitudes were disgusting. There were 9 of us and we left before ordering due to standing at the bar for over 20 mins to be served. Place wasn't even busy which made it worse. I'll never be back there. Avoid at all costs if you can!!!!!!!!

Have eaten here a few times and seems to be hit and miss - same as many places. Breakfast last week was lovely yet yesterday the sausages, both normal and square as one of us had Scottish breakfast, looked and felt like they'd been cooked in a nuclear reactor or a crematorium incinerator the potato scones also looked like a bloated food version of Madge from Benidorm as opposed to the nice lightly golden pic on the menu...amazing considering it was a lot busier last week!

Love the food served by the Wetherspoons pubs and Saxon Crown is no different. Great selection of ales served by friendly staff. Only grump would be when pub is busy it can be a wait to get served...but hay ho that's life. I have been coming to this establishment for a few years now and at various times and it never disappoints .

My husband and I met 4 of our friends here today for a few drinks and a meal. The whole place was really dirty. Although there were plenty of tables with no one sitting at them, there were only 2 that were clean enough to sit at. The rest were covered with dirty glasses and plates of half eaten food which were covered in flies due to the hot weather. Needless to say we didn't stay for long and certainly didn't have a meal. The time before I ordered a vegetarian chilli which I discovered had bits of meat in it!! The pub is rapidly going downhill and my friends and I won't be returning unless we are told that it has vastly improved.

Avoid if you want to be treated as an adult. We visited today (after staying in the hotel for a few days last year without a hitch ) to eat breakfast and meet friends. We live overseas and this was considered to be a good meeting place as it is central and was friendly last year. Before I continue, I was polite and friendly. We ordered two large breakfasts (the paper menu on every table only offers large Scottish or Scottish breakfast) along with other things. The food arrived and the plate contained many different things to those listed on menu. When I questioned the barmaid snapped you got what you ordered: large English breakfast. Me: But you only serve Scottish! Her: You never asked for a Scottish! Me: Are you joking? The menu only offers one type! Scottish breakfast. There is no English on the menu! I order two large breakfasts. That can only mean two large Scottish breakfasts as that's all you offer on the menu!Chef, cutting in: that's right, it only says Scottish. Did you not offer the customer a choice? Her: silence...The chef kindly made some black pudding for son to add to his meal. We were disappointed that we had missed the chance to have square sausage. We live in Asia and this was supposed to be a special treat. We ate up and left. We would returned late to meet friends. We popped out for 60 mins to shop, leaving hubby drinking coffee, and returned with lots of bags and we were thirsty. We joined friends at their table and went to bar. Barmaid refused to serve us as it's the Wetherspoon policy to not serve drinks if you are with under 18s - pointing at son. She also stated daughter looked under 25 and as such she should ID her but there was no need as she wouldn't serve us anyway as son is only 16. She didn't know if we wanted beer, wine, spirits, soft drinks, water... or a meal to accompany the drink. Our friends who had met us were told to leave our table as they were not allowed to sit with us as they had beer and we should leave as we were not being served. This felt like it was abuse of their rules, in pure spite, as she had been pointed out as being incompetent in taking a simple order an hour earlier and obviously was still smarting from this. The manager was sent to speak to us. He informed me it's their strict policy (which I appreciate in principle) and it's "to help me make informed decisions about drinking excessively in front of my children": My 6ft tall nearly 16 year old son and my petite nearly 19 year old daughter. I could only think : They must have it hard as their mother drinks in front of them... what an unfit parent I must be? He stated that they get parents in there that get drunk and allow their toddler offspring to run around and upset other patrons. My two teens obviously look the sort! They must look like as soon as I've had half a Carlsberg they turn into monsters and tear up the place! Who would have thought as they never acted that way as toddlers, nine year olds, twelve year olds but now they are nearly 16 and 19 it was their time. Who would have thought? Actually, my children frequent 5* international hotels and we stay in club lounges across Asia where we live. They are not toddlers. They have impeccable manners and are a credit to us. They behave better than the staff in your establishment. Thank you Wetherspoon's for helping me "parent my children". I only wanted half a beer and two soft drinks as we had the car parked outside. Business lost and I'm spreading the word to my expat friends to avoid if you want to treated like an adult. #nannystate. #notjdw. From now on when I visit Corby and anywhere else in the UK I will boycott JD Wetherspoon. The fact that Tim Martin stated in the press last year that he wanted 16 year olds to be able to be served in his pubs, his staff can't serve bring themselves to serve a grown up family with one drink. You might have cheap beer but you also have cheap rules. You're a joke JDW. #notjdw

I turned up at 17.15 with my husband and 2 children (11 & 13) on a Friday for a family meal. At the bar, we were told we could not possibly order a drink until at a table having ordered a meal. Most tables were full of non eaters. After finding a grubby table, I requested it was cleaned. It was cleaned straight away but having to sit there without a drink while everyone chose their meal was beyond ridiculous. I would give no stars if I could, but unfortunately have to give 1 just to review. I would not recommend this place for families.

My partner and I often eat here midweek in the evening. I have tried a few things from the menu and tend to go back to the Superfood pasta and adding chicken, I used to add the salmon but unfortunately they stopped that. My partner loves the Chocolate fudge cake dessert saying the portion size is so well worth the money. Atmosphere is always good and staff very friendly and helpful.

I know it's a typical Witherspoons, but it is the 1st time I had been in here.Have to admit, I was impressed. I had the mixed grill and decided to stick with the smaller one and add scampi.Steak was nice, the pork's texture was a bit flat but still tasty. The lamb was really very good, the sausage was a sausage. The scampi came with a too small bit of lemon but was piping hot.Service was good and fast.It was a bit loud in the pub but hey. Bill came to less than £25 with drinks. Can't complain at that price with how good it was. I enjoyed the meal more than Toro in Rothwell the day before!

The central location makes this a wonderful choice for clean and modern accommodations. The room size is not large but is absolutely adequate and we had *no* issues with noise from the pub restaurant downstairs. The bathroom is lovely, perfectly functional. [Cannot comment as to the food because our local hosts are beyond hospitable, inviting us for every meal!...Should we have opportunity before we leave, I will add a comment as to the restaurant/pub. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to others!

USED NEW CAFE TODAY NEVER AGAIN READ ON....... Coffee advertised at 125 yet for two cups of very poor weak coffee I was charged 4 pounds Menu is poor portions are small . Prices are favorable to owners bank balance only. Which judging by cafe users it wont be open long. Why exploit a new customer base...... Corby Council or pool manager has now barred you and your children from eating or drinking in a public run building...Oh yes they have....... Why because either they are stupid or the cafe is doing so poorly....that they need to force you to use it. Thats not a good idea dont youse the cafe on principle and eat and drink until you pop.....

My wife and I had a change of restaurant today and decided to give The knightlodge Corby a go. I had the mixed grill and my wife had rump steak. Wow both were plentiful and tasty. I am a big eater and I found I had to leave some of my meal. Will be visiting again very soon to check more delicious meals.

Crazy that this is my local and yet I travel much further afield for a drink! I attended tonight because I saw a live band advertised. They were decent, but the staff and venue were great. I'll be returning and hopefully it'll turn into my regular

Everything about this place was wrong which made it so right. The decor, the slanted ceilings, the menu photos on the wall. And lastly the 40+ year old spaghetti and floating fork. Loved it and I will go back

Used to be a fab little fish and chip shop. Been times over the years with various change in owners. Not sure what has happened in last few months but quality seems have gone down especially the chips. Perhaps new potato supplier needed or change of cooking fat?
