I recently visited The Saxon and I have to say, it was an incredible experience! The atmosphere was perfect—vibrant yet cozy, with just the right mix of music and lighting to set the mood. The drink selection was fantastic, with a wide variety of cocktails, beers, and spirits to choose from. What really made the night stand out, though, was the exceptional service. Erika, the manager, went above and beyond to ensure that my friends and I had an unforgettable time. She was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive, making sure everything was just right. It’s clear she cares deeply about her customers and her team, and it really shows in the overall vibe of the place. If you’re looking for a spot with great drinks, an awesome atmosphere, and top-notch service, that’s the place to be. Kudos to Erika and the whole team for making our night special! I can’t wait to come back!

Booked the mezzanine for my 40th birthday prior to new ownership back in January 2024 for August. After new manager Erika took over she swooped in and helped me create a much better event, welcome drinks on the roof top from 7-10pm then moving inside to the mezzanine with a private bar from 10pm onwards for the dj and dancing. The venue was really busy from 10pm onwards with such a great atmosphere it was the perfect venue and perfect host! Thank you to the Saxon team and Erika. 🙏🏻

This establishment discriminates certain clients by requiring the ID at the entrance as an excuse. I didn't see the staff requesting ID to any other clients but us and we clearly didn't look under age. The Identity Cards Act 2006 states that no one in the UK is required to carry ID. You may need ID for certain reasons, such as: -High-security locations: Some high-security buildings and areas may require ID checks before allowing access. -Crossing a border: You may need ID to cross a border. -Driving a vehicle: You need a driving license to drive a vehicle. -Royal events: You may need ID for royal events. They are clearly overruling the National Legislation to discriminate clients and I found it disgusting, the threatening attitude of security staff is unacceptable. Should you come across the same situation please report it to the Lambeth County Council.

A really nice, chill bar indoors, and has a great rooftop terrace for the good weather. Erika, Sai, Georgia, Ellie and Conor are really great, attentive bar staff Always a pleasure to come here.

Had a great night on Saturday, Erika made us feel incredibly welcome, nothing was too much trouble when trying to find us a table..(5 of us for birthday night out for my friend) Atmosphere was perfect, drinks were superb and the dj was playing some right bangers. Will definitely be back.

Hosted my 40th birthday here and the venue couldn't have been more perfect. Had the 'The Playroom' on the top floor and it was amazing. The manager Erika and her whole team were brilliant with no request too big or small. Erika was so lovely and really helped with the planning - and answered everything question I had before the event quickly. The space was perfect, with air-con, could plug my own music in, our own bar and even had access to our own toilets. The staff were brilliant and really good fun and looked after us so well. They thought of everything. I honestly couldn't recommend the venue more. 10/10. Also has a perfect terrace to sit and plan your party.

There was no food served despite there being a menu online. We went for our anniversary and put to the side of the room by the doors as a party had taken up the whole space which was disappointing as booked this in advance. In the end we left after one drink l.

I went there with some friends for a couple of drinks and it was very lovely, Erika welcome us, she was very professional and friendly at the same time. The atmosphere is beautiful, vintage and cozy. I will come back again for the vibes

Good service and late on a summer weekend evening it tends to have a busy and fun atmosphere like a mini club. Doormen are ok at this place too. Two bars serving including one upstairs. It’s a decent option for late night drinks and a dance.

nice bar with good cocktails. we came on a saturday and it wasn’t too busy but we left around 8pm. good music & vibe, looks like they have a good event space!! there is a happy hour but it’s not very clear how it works or which cocktails are included, you’d have to ask. overall - nice bar, would probably come back for happy hour!

Sunday roast was fantastic. Meat cooked to perfection. Will be back soon.

Had my Birthday at The Saxon Bar in Clapham last night. The venue is the best bar in Clapham by far. Amazing friendly and helpful staff, pizzas are super delicious, and flowing Prosecco, plus the djs are amazing. The vibes in this place are everything you’d want to experience with all your friends. As I had hired out the top mezzanine level that over looks the bar. And we had our own bar and toilet too. Which was awesome. As always I have an epic night here and can only say fabulous good things about this place. Even after work drinks is so good. Love the ambiance, decor and can’t wait to experience the roof top in summer. Thank you for the best night ever guys. Xx Kelvin Ozanne

Nice enough place, friendly staff, even got asked for ID on the way in, not sure if the doorman was hitting on me or he genuinely thought I was under 25 or wherever age limits places have these days, I think I last got asked for ID in 1997, but he didn’t look old enough to remember the last millennium. Anyway food was good, nice wings, halloumi, croquettes and pizza and so forth. Surf and turf looked tempting so me and a mate splurged the £25 a head but when it came out we were like “surely this is for 1 head, where’s the rest?” Turned out to be pretty poor value, the shrimp could be ordered for £12 on its own so the meagre slice of steak you got was effectively £38, definitely not worth it. All in all a great night but wouldn’t recommend the surf and turf, expected twice as much food for the money for sure. Staff super friendly although unorganised at times with drinks taking ages (longer than food) so ended up with Ghandi flip flop chops for a while so room for improvement but can’t fault friendliness, quality of food and atmosphere.

This was by far my most favourite Sunday Roast I have had and I can hand on heart say the best one in London! In addition the service was phenomenal and Sergey made sure we were well looked after! There was three of us and we ordered the Roast Platter for two as well as the Christmas Roast with cauliflower cheese and pork stuffing as sides. Everything was divine! Thank you all!

Best roast dinner I've had in a long while.

We hired the Playroom for an event and it was fantastic. The manager Sergejs made everything so brilliant. Everyone was really happy with the delicious canapés and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for . 5* , thank you guys

Had my Brothers 30th Birthday at The Saxon on Saturday and it was great. First time I've been in this bar and very impressed. Drinks very reasonably priced, great atmosphere, good decor looks very upmarket, the music was really good. Unsure who the DJ was but she was brilliant. I don't live in London, however, next time I visit my brother who lives close by we'll be sure to nip in again. Great bar 5/5

Amazing full English breakfast! Proper food, more than decent bacon, nice sausages, yummy hash browns, very tasteful mushrooms (and I do not love them so often) and good toasted bread and butter! More than recommended!

Fantastic pizzas at reasonable prices, really great entertainment with smart dartboards to hire out, lovley staff very welcoming and acomidating of groups. Really good atmosphere too!

A lovely night and great alternative spot in Clapham High Street when you want some good music and great cocktials or beers without it being too wild!

Gotta be one of the best Sunday lunches in London. Really nice venue with a gorgeous roof terrace and amazing staff who know the meaning of proper customer service. Love it here. Jimmy and Andrew

As always a great time here. The Sunday roast - I had the beef - is outstanding. The staff are polite & not intrusive. And on a nice sunny Sunday, with the windows open & a great playlist in the background you can’t beat it!

My friend and I had planned to come here for a Sunday roast with my 11 month old daughter so my friend booked and specified that we needed a table for 2 with space for a buggy and high chair. When we got to the Saxon we were told they didn’t have high chairs (?) and seemed surprised that we had a child with us. Before arriving we had our hearts set on the sharer roast which according to the online menu has beef, chicken and pork and is £24.00 per person, however, the menu provided in the Saxon says the shared roast only has beef and chicken and is £25.95 per person….? We ended up going for 1 chicken and 1 beef in the end which were actually phenomenal and one of the best roasts I’ve ever had! I then had to change my daughter and was shocked to discover there is no wheelchair access toilet and therefore no baby changing facilities so I had to change my daughter on the floor of the ladies toilets. Definitely not ideal! The food is great but I would avoid if you have children with you or anyone with accessibility requirements.

The Saxon on Clapham High Street is a hidden gem! I found this place looking for somewhere to spend the night out with a couple of friends and boy can I assure you our time at this place was a time to be remembered. The service was excellent upon arrival, we were greeted offered great table service almost immediately by a young waitress called Tiffany, who made out night extra memorable. Her friendly and attentive demeanour, along with her impressive knowledge of the menu, ensured we wasted no time in getting the night started! The Saxon's inviting ambiance along with its multiple choices for places to spend the night such as the rooftop terrace (which, although we did not get to check out on our visit, looked absolutely spectacular) and great drink selection added to the experience. We'll definitely be returning for more wonderful evenings with the team at The Saxon!

Currently sat in here for a birthday party. Its lifeless, soulless and the staff are appalling. No urgency, they didnt know what a camden hells was, and they are far from accommodating. Would recommend to never come here....its terrible

Great pub. Good beers, loads of people there, as always on a Friday evening. Can't fault it. Prices are reasonable. Can take a tad long to get served but that's about the only possible criticism.

Saw a sign advertising happy hour so wandered in, and quickly pounced upon by a member of staff. Asked what drinks were in the happy hour and he looked at his watch even though on Thursdays (according the the sign) it runs all day and he listed them. We were led to a table on the roof terrace where we were totally ignored for fifteen minutes - nobody even brought a menu, let alone took an order. So we left! Won’t bother returning.

Recently moved to the area and visited based off of online reviews. This place has the best roast chicken and pork belly we have ever had! Staff are super friendly and the general vibe is just lovely. Special shout-out to the guitarist/singer who was playing live music, he was fab!

3 reviews in one. We’ve been welcomed in an acidic way from one of the waiters ( short blond guy, short hair and blue eyes). We requested a spot on the terrace and in a very mine way we been told that table was only for 30min. Their attitude was extremely rude and unprofessional. After we seated we been told again that the table was only for 30min. Nice venue, cool painting 🖼️ My friend is been approached in a very spicy 🌶️. Way Grease, fat super garlic olives 🧄 🫒 , Just for big mouth 👄

Went out with our company last weekend. The guy with blue eyes (Eastern European?) was lovely - made us feel so comfy and had amazing customer service. Will defo return.

Great busy place in the heart of Clapham. I loved everything about it. It was our first date at last Tuesday and our host made it less awkward 😁 we were served by Serg and it made our evening. Such a welcoming and funny guy! Drinks and food was great too. Strongly recommend!

LOVE this place! I just returned from a trip to London with my roommate and our first stop was The Saxon after the flight. We immediately hit it off with our kind waiter, Juan, who made the most amazing drinks we've ever tasted. The menu was equally sensational as they offered plenty of gluten free options! My roommate ordered a beautiful prosciutto pizza and I ordered a full English with GF bread. Let's just say we are still dreaming of that meal LOL. Despite other great food throughout the UK, we still had The Saxon on our mind and decided to return on our last night in town. Juan was bartending again and immediately recognized us/asked how our trip was. He even remembered our full conversations about upcoming excursions from the week prior! It was a very different, fun, active vibe compared to day time with a DJ spinning solid tunes and tables were cleared to make more room for dancing and mingling. In total, I highly recommend stopping by The Saxon, even if someone in your group is gluten intolerant!

I don't usually write reviews, but this one was so bad that I feel like I need to share it with others. I went there with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon. We had a table booked inside, but since it was a really nice day, we politely asked the host if there was any space outside and if it would be possible for us to sit there. The host informed us that there wasn't any space available outside. As we were being led to our table, we asked the host if he could bear us in mind in case any tables became available in the afternoon, even if we were seated separately. He abruptly replied that it wasn't going to happen. Although we were happy to sit inside since we had booked the table, we just thought it was worth mentioning it beforehand. When our waiter came over with the drinks menu, we got talking to him and mentioned that we were hoping to sit outside. He said, "give me a second and I'll see if I can help." When he came back, the host accompanied him and started telling us off. He aggressively told us that he had 300 other people trying to get on the terrace, and there was no chance that we would be one of them. He then threatened to kick us out if we asked again. All he needed to say was that it was unlikely but that he would bear us in mind if an opportunity arose. I did not expect to be told off by the host, who seemed to be on some sort of power trip, just as we were settling down to enjoy our drinks. Will not be visiting the Saxon again!

Great bar. I’m very happy I celebrated my birthday here. We loved the atmosphere at the mezzanine and the service we received from the bartender there was impeccable. Also communication with the staff to get everything organised was easy and straightforward, they were helpful and welcoming.

Perhaps one of the best places in Clapham for Sunday lunch. The vegetarian Sunday lunch was ourstanding, as were the cauliflower bites.

Fun, atmospheric bar with a roof top bar, friendly staff and a slightly more upmarket crowd. Monday to Friday you can drop in for a meal and drinks with a varied crowd, but later in the evening on Friday and Saturday night attracts a very young crowd. I've been a few times with different people and all of our experiences have been really positive. A little limited on the vegetarian side in my opinion, but delicious food nevertheless. Highly recommended.

I was there couple of weeks ago with some family members. Beautiful old pub with watermill and surrounding. However the food was one of the worst. I do not understand these kind of pubs with beautiful locations. Don't they care about quality of food or is it just tourist trap? How difficult can it be to serve basic food? If you can't cook, do not open the restaurant!

Hired a private room for my birthday party and it was fantastic. Staff were really accommodating and provided a great service. Venue was absolutely ideal on multiple levels. Highly recommend (and I'm pretty difficult to please).

Shame they no longer offer a bottomless Prosecco brunch on a Saturday...

Thank you for a lovely birthday party! Not a lot of venues this cool in Clapham with a rooftop and decent prices. The actual space to book was free which is almost unheard of now and I was impressed by the continuous service and good atmosphere here

Had lunch here on Saturday (poached eggs on avocado and toast, eggs Benedict) so good we came back for the Sunday roast the following day. Beat Sunday roast ever my sister said (and she cooks a great one)! I couldn’t argue. Absolutely amazing. Service is excellent, prices not u reasonable. Definitely highly recommended.

I was annoyed by the fact that in the booking process it explicitly outlined a "happy hour". Indeed we came early to take advantage of this. But it turned out the cancelled it! Misleading. Food and wine were OK if pricey. Service was a bit pushy. Bar was better. Singer was quite good.

Was given tomato soup as vegan gravy and my friends plate was whisked off as she was eating 💀 service and food was soo bad and it’s really expensive In there. I have emailed them about this and they didn’t bother replying

extremely disappointed with the behaviour/attitude of the door staff. Popped in for a drink at around 9.30 and was met instantly with insulting accusations and comments about my appearance. I felt intimidated and insulted by their attitude and found them to be unwelcoming. Their actions made me feel self-conscious about my appearance and left me with a negative experience . Won’t return

Gabriel is the best bartender ever. So welcoming and just knew what to do.

Staff downstairs are nice and quick to serve but it's not the best layout at the front because the door keeps opening and people always walking through...the terrace is nice!

I went for a drink with my Friends around 1 month ago, was full of ppl (was in the weekend i think + xmas dinners/events) so almost all seat was taken, but there was a great atmosphere and i enjoyed my staying 😄

We came here for a Hen do celebration. From booking the space to when we finished our night, the whole experience was amazing! The venue (booked the Playroom), the food and the people were so good. Want to personally thank Emily for attending to our every need, to the staff who helped with serving the food, the chefs who made the food & Alexia for helping us create such an amazing evening for our Bride to Be. Even though we were little late in leaving the room, they were still so amazingly professional! Definitely recommend The Saxton for whoever wants a great night 😁

Amazing place, staff very friendly and professional. I been for Sunday roast, absolutely the best pork belly and beef roast then I have in my time. Drinks was very tasty and signature cocktails was delicious. Definitely I will back for hangover burger! Good location, close to the train station. Good for party too. Thanks guys. I love this place, friendly staff as like Katy and Sergey who served us. Food was an amazing a specially Sunday pork roast and cheescake. A signature coctails tested very good, I tried the coctail Penicillin. I definitely come back. Thank you all the team.

A fine place indeed. Very busy but welcoming and attentive staff. Fast and efficient service, gratefully received. A most enjoyable pint of cold fresh lager, currently being enjoyed. Pub a little too busy to explore today but worth a mention because it's a great place. Not a venue for real ale drinkers though, casks appear (or is that disappear?) absent. Still, a most jolly place to visit!
