A friend and I opted to stay here on an Autumn International day. We already knew the location of the hotel, which is right in the centre of the city. Yes if you have mobility problems then it won't be suitable because of the numerous steps and the lack of a lift. The lady on reception was really helpful and we were able to leave our bags and head out. On our return, we again had a warm welcome and directed to our room. What a surprise we had. We opened the door to the smell of bleach so knew instantly that the place was going to be clean. The towels in the bathroom were thick and spotless and there was plenty of hot water. Although there was only two of us, our room had both a double and a single bed. This was great for us as I'm one of these that toss and turn all night. Yes the decor could be a little brighter but the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the duvet covers were sparkling white. There was both a plug in radiator and a fan if needed, plus an iron and ironing board. There was also a tea tray with plenty of tea/coffee/milk etc. All in all we had a very pleasant night's stay. Would we stay again while in Cardiff -most definitely.

It may be a budget hotel but it has all the important things spot on. Spotless pure white bed linen, it was soft and perfectly smoothed out over the bed and lovely and clean smelling to sleep in. The towels in the bathroom looked new and the bathroom was very clean. Staff were lovely and welcoming and very approachable. Location was amazingly central, just a walk through the arcade to the shopping centre, bars and restaurants. Despite being amongst the nightlife we heard nothing at all! Yes, the decor might be tired but why pay more just for fancy wall paper that you can't see when you are asleep. Ideal for when you just need a clean bed for the night after a show/gig. I'd definitely stay again. Book direct as it's cheaper than booking websites.

Excellent budget hotel. Staff is very friendly and professional. Location is amazing. Cleanless is very good. Yes, rooms are old, but i did not mind-i spent minimal time in the room. Recommended to everybody who want central location, friendly staff, and that will basically use room only for sleeping and shover.

I stayed here for a weekend with a group of friends. There wasn't any food available but that was not a problem as there are plenty of places nearby. I can only comment, therefore, on the accommodation. Pros:- -The hotel is in a great central location. Although it can get quite rowdy in St Mary Street on the weekends, my room was quiet and any noise from the surrounding area did not bother me. -The cost of the 2 night stay was good value and appropriate for a budget hotel. - The staff were friendly and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. Alison who was on the desk was delightful! Cons:- -The entrance to the hotel is basic. You have to climb a flight of stairs to get to the reception area and there is no lift to any of the floors. This didn't bother me but if you have mobility issues it wouldn't be suitable or if you are carrying a lot of heavy luggage it could be difficult. First impression was that the hotel is basic and budget. -When I entered my allocated room I was dismayed! It was tired, run down and unpleasant (beware of room 112). It was clean to an extent but to coin a phrase 'you can't make a silk purse out of sow's ear'. From talking to others in my group, I don't think some of the other rooms were quite as bad as mine. I'm particular about where I stay and I felt uncomfortable in the room. I did ask to change rooms but there were no others available. I understand that the owners of the hotel are targeting a budget market but in my humble opinion the hotel needs some updating and investment. Because the location is so amazing, it would make a fabulous boutique hotel! Would I stay there again - no - but I guess it would suit others. I suppose you get what you pay for... Apologies to the owners if this review seems harsh but it is just my experience. All in all though we did have a great weekend in Cardiff.

This fitted the bill perfectly for what I needed. An ultra-convenient spot, I was housed at the side of the building overlooking Wharton Street. It was completely quiet, despite its central location. The booking process was straightforward and efficient, and everything went smoothly, staff being exceptionally pleasant and helpful throughout. It was useful to be able to leave baggage at reception for a short period following checkout. Faciliites were very good, with a proper wooden writing desk and clothes storage area, complete with iron and ironing board, of which I made full use. There was a spacious bathroom, spotlessly clean - all plumbing worked perfectly, which is not always the case elsewhere! Excellent easy-to-use shower which was a huge plus. I got decent night's sleep throughout my stay but found the mattress a little soft for my requirements, and had slight back-ache by the end of the stay. Overall, with this as the only disappointment, I would certainly recomment to anyone wishing for simple, unpretentious accommodation in a handy location in Cardiff.

The hotel is an excellent choice for budget accommodation. I got an ensuite room for only GBP50 per night. It is often possible to get a room at an even lower rate. The room I stayed in was very warm and clean as well as being ensuite. The hotel is very centrally located, adjacent to an excellent market, Cardiff's main shopping district and Cardiff Castle, as well as being within easy walking distance from many other fascinating local attractions.

Having searched the internet for a hotel for one night in Cardiff and having rejected the Premier Inn because of cost I found the Sandringham. I rang and spoke with a member of staff. He was very helpful, explained that food was not available but there were plenty of eateries around. On arrival we were greeted with a very warm welcome. Confidentiality is great: the keys have letters not numbers to hide which room you are in. The room we had was for three. The single bed was in a room off the main bedroom. This offers a little bit of privacy but also a quiet place if tv is on in the later evening. All the staff were friendly. Yes it is all stairs but we were asked if we were ok with that at the time of booking. The hotel is five minutes walk from the railway station. It is central. The room was very clean and tidy. It is definitely worthwhile contacting the hotel direct. It was perfect for what we wanted.

Location for the Cardiff nightlife, fantastic. At £158 for a twin room, expensive for what is a very tired hotel. Ideal for a boozy weekend for a group of guys or girls. Would I use it for a romantic weekend with my wife? No. Breakfast, the produce was very cheap. In particular their use of sausages which was really synthetic and disgusting. Staff, lovely. Hotel A1 clean.

We stayed overnight at the Sandringham Hotel last Thursday 31st August- 1st September, and found it very comfortable and surprisingly quiet given the area. The receptionist Annemarie was always on hand and very helpful. The location is excellent, in walking distance from the station and the Castle, and with shops and restaurants on or adjacent to the same street. We would definitely recommend the Sandringham to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Central Cardiff; it's a hidden gem and very good value for money.

Close to lots. Stayed here as going to new theatre, about 6 min walk away. Very close to plenty of places to eat and drink. Approx 10 mins walk to castle. Hotel doesn't look good from outside at all. Some areas could do with up date. Rooms were large and very clean. Bathroom was lovely and clean. Even though was so close to lots of amenities we had a very peaceful night sleep. Plenty of tea, coffee in rooms. Staff were very helpful. For £50 a room (that could sleep 3) you can't ask for anything better. If you want an overnight no frills stay then I would recommend this hotel

The hotel is situated in an ideal spot and is located by shops, pubs and restaurants. Easy to reach from the train station and a very close car park. The hotel is clean and comfortable and has everything you need and if not the staff are more than happy to help. The breakfast is very tasty and plentiful and is served by one of the wonderful family members that own the hotel. The reception was manned by Alison who was amazing, helpful, welcoming and lovely to chat to, the breakfast served by Alison’s Mum who was also amazing, a lovely lady and it felt like being at home. The other members of staff were also fab, helpful, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Do not hesitate to stay here but book via the hotel website or give them a call. I will definitely return. This is a wonderful two-star hotel right in the centre of Cardiff city centre. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and my room was immaculately clean (even the top of the shower rails were spotless)! I was given a very quiet room on the fourth floor at the back of the building and it was very private and super-quiet. Nice full-cooked breakfast is offered on weekends for only £7. Great value. I loved having a bathtub and my own iron in my room as well. I will always stay here when visiting Cardiff. Highly recommended.

Stayed one night as going to a show in the castle. Hotel is really really old and very dated. Cost £89 for the night so cheap and we were not expecting luxury but we were disappointed in the state of the fixtures and furnishings. Hotel is opposite a bar/club which boomed out music til 3am even though it was a Monday so little sleep was had. Have to say all the staff were very pleasant and the bedding and towels were clean but not somewhere we would stay again.

Currently staying at this hotel during a friends birthday weekend to the city. We paid approximately £30/£40 a night for rooms sharing between three. On arrival staff were friendly and give us a few ground rules (big group of lads, damage/sick warnings etc…) they sorted out rooms quick and efficiently. I have a room on the fourth floor (higher the better, the hotel is above a club) the rooms are ace. Very clean, coffee and biscuits and towels to use. The rooms are dated, but it’s not a problem at all. At this price you just want somewhere clean with a nice shower. If your with family and want somewhere calm, avoid. If your with friends and need somewhere clean with great location next to the pubs. I would recommend staying here.

If this review was based on staff alone it would be 5 stars all the way - everyone was lovely, friendly and helpful. On the flip side if it was based on sleep quality it would be a miserable 1, two at best. We stayed in room 104 and I think unfortunately we just fell unlucky. The outer windows in the bedroom would not shut...old building, lots of movement and it would appear that the windows have dropped a little. The inner window did shut however this was not sufficient to keep the noise at bay. The first night comprised of little dozes in between the late night revellers heading home and the street cleaners starting work! One of the windows also didn’t have a blind fitted in the upper window (above the false ceiling) so there was also lots of light. For the second night I invested in some ear plugs and an eye mask (problem solved!!) We didn’t mention the issue while we were there....we had a lovely time regardless, but maybe an issue that management may consider looking into resolving for future guests. Beds both need new mattresses too, the springs could be felt in both. Not so much an issue for me but my sister had to take painkillers on waking each morning. Sleep quality aside we both really enjoyed this hotel. Yes it’s dated, and yes it needs some TLC but it’s in a great location and the staff are awesome. Breakfast was yummy too! Other guests at breakfast had said they’d had the best nights sleep here so like I said maybe we just fell unlucky with our room allocation. We will return on our next visit to Cardiff. We’ll just maybe request a room other than 104!! Cleanliness - 5*Location - 5* Friendliness - 5*Breakfast - 5*Sleep quality - 2*

This was my first time in the Cafe Jazz. I was a little dubious first walking into the place as I was not expecting a television in the middle of the restaurant. The 'restaurant' area is a little too close to the bar area, but what the Cafe Jazz lacks in style and grandeur (paper serviettes and table cloth) it makes up in the excellent cuisine. The chef should be commended. My husband and I have eaten in many of the fine eateries in Cardiff and I would say the level of good food in the Cafe Jazz is no exception. The excellent service we had from both Dave and Hywel added to the lovely experience. Well done Cafe Jazz. We will definitely return.

Followed up with a lamb stew with haricot beans and choritzo. All delivered by David and Anna.Main feature which must not be forgotten is the Jazz Club. It may not get overly busy on some nights. Some people want live music free, rather naive these days! Payment at the door for non residents seems to vary but what you get is blindingly obvious. A live jazz or blues band depending upon the programme for a fiver. That isn't bad considering drink prices are very reasonable.

We have just come back from two nights here. The only reason I am giving them 2 out of 5 is because the staff who work here are so lovely. I did not mind about it needing updating as it was cheap you sort of expect that sort of thing BUT the smell in are room was horrendous. We bought air fresheners that did not help had to resort to sleeping with the window open in the middle of winter to try to help get rid of it. Each morning woke up coughing because of it. How they could put people in the room is beyond me needs a good airing carpets replaced etc. However the reception staff were great and the last serving us at breakfast was lovely an welcoming. Breakfast was good too and it was in a great location which was why we picked it walking distance to the castle an shopping.Just a shame about the smell we would of really enjoyed our stay here if it was not for that. With a 3 course dinner just like your mums, (the veggie option was highly praised too), and a disco - all for under £20! Then not far to walk to finish off the evening downstairs in Cafe Jazz. See you next year Sandringham Hotel !

Went here last Friday on works Xmas party! Had 3 course meal followed by tea, coffee & mints! This was a great afternoon as after a lovely meal they had a disco. We shared the room with another party but we still all had a good time! Would defiantly recommend !

Lovely hotel, ideally located right in the city centre near to the millenium stadium. Room was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful....only down fall was the disco from next door that went on until 2am. We were on the top floor and could still hear it :/

My daughter bought us a voucher for tapas and cocktails and we popped in on the off-chance that we could book in on the day. We were given a table straight away by a very helpful and friendly waitress called Paige. The tapas and cocktails were amazing, the atmosphere was great and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and will return for more of the same, thanks!

Honestly the best lunch of this year! Chicken, sweet "dumplings" and sides were delicious + great atmosphere.

Fantastic for allergies! I have a milk allergy and they catered for it really well, having good knowledge of what I could and couldn’t have. Vicky was a great server :)
