Our experience at The Salt Room was genuinely amazing. We were here celebrating my partner’s birthday, and the service and attentiveness from all of the staff couldn’t have been better - particularly at such a busy time! The food was outstanding, really fresh seafood and brilliant flavours. Huge shout out to Jean - he went out of his way to make the evening special for us.

Quality, good food every time. Fitted us in even though I made a reservation for the wrong night, I cannot thank you enough, as we had my elderly dad with us. Staff are professional and so kind.

Esta fue mi tercera visita. He estado dos veces antes para cenar por mi cumpleaños. Esta vez vinimos un jueves y probamos el menú del almuerzo. Wow! Excepcionalmente buena relación calidad-precio y excepcionalmente buena comida y servicio. Tres platos y una copa de champán veuve cliquot por £ 29. La sopa de pescado, los mejillones y patatas fritas y el pastel de queso limón estaban deliciosas. Este es mi restaurante favorito en Brighton.

Honestly one of the worst meals I’ve had in a long time. The steaks were genuinely disgusting – wet, fatty, greasy, and completely unseasoned with a flavour that was hard to stomach. The chips were bland, and somehow even the mayo lacked any taste. The mac and cheese didn’t taste remotely like mac and cheese – it was genuinely vile. The cabbage dish was just as bad, with breadcrumbs that weirdly tasted like dessert crumble. Every dish missed the mark completely. We all felt sick after eating — it went down like a lead balloon. Truly baffling how bad everything tasted. That said, the service was the only redeeming part. The staff were lovely, especially a young guy named Fin who was incredibly polite and helpful. Massive shout out to him – he really made the experience bearable. Overall, amazing service completely let down by shockingly bad food. Wouldn’t return, but full credit to the front-of-house team.

Despite a reservation we had to wait 15 minutes for our table. Service was not great, errors and very slow service which, for the prices charged, was a little disappointing and unexpected. Real shame as the place looks great and the food is fabulous, albeit portions being on the smaller side.

Great tasting good and very good service

Clean place with an ocean view. Friendly service. Both fishes were alright but not amazing - little spices and overcooked fries & potatoes. Given the price, we left a little disappointed. Other places nearby gave us more value for our buck

Callum, our server was lovely. Was very attentive and friendly. Really met the vibe we wanted e.g. bit jokey with us. Gave us complimentary truffles at the end to say congratulations as we were there to celebrate a new job!

A very poor experience all round. Very overpriced for such a limited menu selection. The waiter who was serving us forgot the drinks orders on multiple occasions and had to be reminded. The restaurant is very noisy and you cannot have a conversation unless it's the person next to you. Overall... not at all worth the money.

Tasty food, great service and lush cocktails. Antoine really looked after us, making sure we were happy with our choices and checking if we needed anything. We loved the Cod and Artichoke main and shared the twist of lemon sweet.

My husband and I ate there for the first time last night. It came highly recommended so perhaps expectations were too high. Staff were lovely, we were lucky with the weather and offered a table on the terrace which was lovely, if a tad uncomfortable. We ordered the scallops from the specials menu and the crispy duck salad. These were both OK but the scallops weren't amazing despite a fairly high price tag. Lovely presentation though. My cocktail was not to my taste but I had chosen something unusual and that is a very subjective thing so all good there. We both shared the Surfboard from the main menu. It arrived as a platter of grilled large prawns, a mound of calamari, 4 scallops (and a ramekin of alioli which was delicious), a bowl of mussels, and a bowl of mixed salad. In my opinion the prawns were over cooked, the calamari and scallops were good, the mussels were not to my liking with a very strange after taste. That was a particular shame as I love mussels and that was the first time I havent been able to eat them. The salad was also disappointing with almost no dressing, lacking any real flavour. We did however get a pot of shoestring fries each which were very good. We didnt have desert but my husband ordered 2 salted caramel truffles with our coffees that were delicious. Overall I did not think the meal was worth the £160 bill and it was a shame that some simple and basic foods were not cooked well. With so much choice in Brighton and Hove I doubt we will be back which is a shame as I love Burnt Orange, their sister restaurant.

Fantastic service, we arrived early and asked to sit outside in the sunshine before beginning our meal. We weren't bombarded with questions, the waiter left us to enjoy the sun and have a chat before we were ready to order. He was incredibly helpful with recommendations on food and drink. The food was absolutely sublime. We chose to have a whole Lobster with the sharing platter of shellfish. The cocktails were also fabulous. Great view and brilliant atmosphere. Thank you, we will definitely be coming back!

It was a misty day in Brighton but the view was still nice We chose a set meal and that was yummy I highly recommend duck salad.Desert didn't come at the same time so that was a bit awkward and they didn't even recognise for a while.

SALT ROOM BRIGHTON Sunday 30th March 2025 8.15pm I just tried a walk in for 1 person empty seats everywhere, remember 1 one person. As I approached the reception there were two men at the desk one dark haired who didn’t look up and another very slim with fair longish curly hair who couldn’t smile (perhaps it’s a condition?) he promptly said we’re fully booked and then looked away! I turned away and just before exiting I turned and took a look at him and he was watching me walk out! It was just too obvious he couldn’t be bothered to be nice or accommodating! I visit the salt yard’s in London often and have never experienced such rudeness! I have never been treated so dismissively and disrespectfully! I would never go back and even try to eat there as, I would not want to see that obnoxious character again!!! First point of contact, first impressions mean everything in such establishments! Regardless of the standard of food…

Really really enjoyed dining at the Salt Room- they were very attentive from the moment we walked in the door, they changed our table so that we had room for our pram and the service throughout was second to none. The food was absolutely excellent, we had the brill, it was perfection. The atmosphere was lovely (a little dark and a little hot) but the weather was beautiful so can’t really complain about that !! Would definitely visit again.

I had a wonderful Mother’s Day dinner here! The food was incredible, so good we in fact had x2 of the starters we ordered (scallops and mussels). The king prawn curry was delicious and my daughter ate her kids fish and chips in 5 mins flat! Thank you for such a lovely afternoon, we will definitely be back soon x

First time visiting, sun was shining and we had a great view of the sea from our table All staff were lovely and very attentive Personally we found some of the food lacking. All starters were enjoyed but 3 of the 4 mains (cod and halibut) were bland and lacked seasoning. The side of potatoes were great though and the macrons for dessert were also enjoyed. We wouldn't return, as the mains didn't warrant the price tag.

Had read good reviews and decided to come along for our 20th anniversary meal. Unbeknown to us, our daughter had organised a bottle of wine for our meal, which was a lovely start and the staff really looked after us well. The food was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Food was amazing. Great atmosphere too. Felt really special. The member of staff looking after us was Gabo, he couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Everything about place was lovely, the only thing that let it down was the slightly grumpy manager (I think he was the manager) who gave no pleasantries when taking us to our table and then later on rolled his eyes when offered to move us and we said we were fine. It was like night and day between him and Gabo. One really went out of their way to help us, the other couldn't have cared less. Other than that, would definitely recommend. We had scallops, codloin and monkfish. Everything cooked to perfection. Not a cheap place, but for a special occasion it was well worth the money and would definitely go again.

More delicious than the last time we went there 12 months ago. Fish soup was delicious, seafood on the grill even nicer. Our server was a star also: quick and attentive. A couple of observations for the chef though. Fish soup might have been a bit more generous in the portion and bowl warmer. And not sure if thyme worked with the muscles. But these are only small points on an otherwise delicious dinner.

Had an excellent birthday meal, great service and fantastic food. Couldn’t fault it. Really felt like a special experience! I loved the Waldorf scallops.

Had a 3 course meal for and a glass of wine which cost me in total about £60. The scallops (starter) and roasted cod (mains) were cooked to perfection. The wine was perfect, and the mille feuille with fig jam was wonderful (the custard could have had a bit more flavour, but that is all). And lovely and very quick service from all the staff.

We have enjoyed a lovely lunch today. The food is excellent, the wine list very appropriate and the service, that we think was the best. Thank you John for your professional, friendly and knowledgeable service and a big shout out to the kitchen service.

We had a lovely lunch at The Salt Room and really enjoyed our experience. We were seated by the window, which gave us a nice view of the sea while keeping us sheltered from the wind and street noise, making for a relaxed setting. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. We had the charcoal-grilled fish, which was cooked beautifully—flavoursome, tender, and well-presented. It came with a fresh salad and roasted potatoes, both of which complemented the dish nicely. A sauce was provided, but the fish was so well-cooked that we felt it didn’t need anything extra. Overall, a great lunch with quality food and good service. We’d happily return!

Excellent dinner on a Saturday night. Gregory was amazing and advised us with fine wines to accompany the dishes. The oysters were delicious, as was the fish as well. I won't miss an opportunity to go there when I'll come back to Brighton!

We took my Mum out for a birthday dinner with our 2 young teen and 1 tween daughters. We were a bit worried that the food would be too challenging for our girls and that they might not feel welcome in such a sophisticated environment. Firstly we had some teen drama which meant we were 45 mins late for our reservation; when I called to let the restaurant know we had such a friendly and flexible response that I was already put at ease. When we arrived we had a lovely welcome, were given a spacious table and all my concerns disappeared. The environment is classy but relaxed, the staff were attentive and well informed. We'd had a look at the menu on the website so the girls had had a chance to see the menu and the two teens had already decided what they would have. Their questions about the ingredients they didn't recognise and how the food would be served were answered respectfully. My youngest daughter ate from the children's menu which is more simple. We all really enjoyed the food, and my Mum was delighted with her birthday dinner. Her chocolate truffle served on a plate with Happy Birthday piped on it in chocolate was a lovely touch. Thanks to all the staff, we had a great evening.

Really enjoyed a delicious lunch. We both had the scallop starter followed by the dover sole & the halibut mains. Accompanying potatoes & veg were all really tasty too. Attentive & friendly staff made the whole experience most enjoyable, so looking forward to a return visit. Set menu was uninspiring.

Had a brilliant Saturday night here, courtesy of Ben and the team in the kitchen. The fish dishes were amazing and the sides too. Ben was excellent and looked after us fantastically. We ended a great night day at the bar with macaroons and cocktails. What skilled bar people they have. Will definitely be back. Thank you for a top night.

Left completely shocked and saddened by the worst service experience I have ever had. This was unfortunate because the monkfish dish was lovely, but the French staff member was extremely rude and discriminating towards me leaving me feeling very uncomfortable. I will never be returning whilst he’s still employed and by the looks at the other bad reviews I came across regarding him I think it’s time to take your guest’s dining experiences into consideration.

At first I was skeptical about seafood restaurants here in England as the ones I had tried weren't that good. However, this particular one became my favorite! Friendly welcome, nice atmosphere and our French waiter very helpful!! We had several of the appetizers on the menu and each one was better than the other! We re-ordered some of these as they were truly a dream! We also tried the fish of the day, which was cleaned on the spot in front of us without even half a fish bone in our bite! It was a unique experience and I can't wait to visit again! Merci beaucoup!

Despite living in the area for over a decade, I'd always held off visiting the Salt Room, in case it turned out to be a culinary disappointment, sustained only by its established name, a prime seafront location and Brighton's hearty tourist trade. There's no shortage of eating options in these parts (many of which launch with great aplomb but quietly close a few years later) and on the rare occasion that we venture out for dinner it's easy to be seduced by the newest offering. Well, I now feel like I owe the Salt Room a considerable apology. A chance lunchtime booking to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary in October saw us wading enthusiastically through their signature seafood platter, lobster, aoli and french fries with seaweed seasoning, before rounding off with an array of picture-perfect desserts. And by Valentine's weekend we'd returned, this time convincing ourselves that we would add some starters as well, because my husband's gluten-allergy would probably limit the dessert choices (spoiler alert: it didn't and we had some of those to boot). The food was, without exception, perfect - wonderfully fresh, beautifully cooked, and seamlessly modified to avoid either allergic reaction or the misery of one half of the party having nothing fun to eat. The service was flawlessly balanced - welcoming, informative, but devoid of snoot; our waiter reassuringly deemed our frankly gluttonous order as 'a very good amount of food...for hungry people'. The restaurant on both occasions was busy, but the spacing of the tables allowed me to concentrate on my husband's conversation and not everyone else's merriment, and pace-wise we felt neither neglected nor rushed. Unlike most of these reviews, I have no photos to add, and that is testament to my energy and fingers being enthusiastically occupied with eating, rather than snapping, scrolling and texting. I don't think we remembered to take the standard 'look we're out on a date' photo until our table was composed largely of empty glasses and dessert plates, and the few snaps along the way showed me gaily waving oyster shells, prawns and mini puddings around with probably more excitement than manners. Walking back, our conversation turned to 'was there anything we'd do differently next time?' and the only thought we could scrape up was 'perhaps we would have something new instead of the lobster, which was lovely, but we've had it twice in a row now'. An answer which both makes us sound a preposterously Marie-Antoinette level of spoiled, and is testament to our hopes for another booking in the near future. A massive thank you to Franck and the team for making our dining experience so special.

A great experience all the way through. Food was amazing and Callum was great, we can't fault the service in any way! Everybody were brilliant! It's not the first time we've been to The Salt Room and won't be the last.

Food was really good and the service was excellent. The French waiter was so friendly and helpful and after our meal he brought out four chocolate truffles to us with the compliments of the chef.

Visited for a friend's birthday lunch. We absolutely loved it. A very warm welcome on a bitterly cold day. Awesome service from Antoine who was very knowledgeable and helped with wine choices. The set lunch menu was excellent we had three courses all were delicious and included a glass of champagne . I can't fault anything great service, excellent food and a sea view . As soon as you walk in you are greated by the lovely staff lovely atmosphere warm and cosy . Spoilt for choice on the menu aswell as the specials board.The nicest restaurant we have ever been to in brighton .Highly recommended 👌 and will definitely be returning there.Myself and my fiancee had Salmon starter followed by halibut and bream. And desert platter went down a treat 😋 Thank you to all the Staff at the Salt Rooms for a lovely Evening.

I can't fault the service at all, the waiters were lovely and attentive. However we went for the shellfish platter to share which was £40 pp, which we had previously had when we came last. I was pretty underwhelmed, there were some small and large prawns, a couple of scallops, fried squid and some mussels. It's described as cooked over charcoal but to be honest only the prawns perhaps were. I've been lucky enough to have tried seafood all over the country and abroad and I think it was incredibly over priced and not cooked particularly well or as described. It's a shame as we had such a fantastic first experience when we came initially.

Great seafood and quality of food

Overpriced and oversauced: impeccable service and great atmosphere, ideal for special occasions. Sadly, the food was not up to par: the mussels and the (small and overpriced) lobster were drowned in curry sauce and butter, respectively, making it hard to enjoy the flavours.

We came for a graduation celebration as a group of seven and had an amazing experience. We had two whole fish to share (Seabass and Brill) which were grilled and filleted by request before served. The scallops were definitely a standout in the starters! Our waiter Gregory ensured that we had enough sides for the group, constantly kept our glasses topped up and had a giggle with the table. Definitely recommend !

If you’re a lover of good quality food, fab service all at reasonable cost you have got to try the Salt Room. I celebrated my partners 50th birthday and it was certainly an experience we will not forget. My partner had the fish soup which was to die for and his ribeye steak literally melted in the mouth. I could not recommend the seafood fish surf board highly enough and don’t get me started with the crispy duck salad. The treat birthday chocolate truffle added to a wonderful birthday celebration. Thank you so much Salt Room staff especially Callum our waiter ❤️

Classy and chic! My husband and I have been here a few times, and it never disappoints; eating dinner with a view! This time, we took our two teenagers, one of whom is a vegetarian. The menu was limited for her, but despite this, both thoroughly enjoyed the selection of food we ordered. The Salt Room made it extra special by bringing a plate out at the end, wishing me a happy 40th birthday! Thank you. See you again soon!
