Food was delicious and the staff very lovely; service was just very slow, but judging from other reviews this was probably just a fluke. Will definitely try them again

The food is just incredible , so fresh with amazing taste. Service is friendly, professional and very helpful with the menu. Atmosphere is cool, chic, but relaxed and really enjoyable. Have been here twice in the last 4 weeks. Definitely one of my favourites.

Second time at the Salt Room and the meal was fantastic. Lobster and tiger prawns were superb and the service exceptional. Highly recommend. We will definitely be returning next time in Brighton. Thank you .

A great evening out and highly recommended. The service was excellent, especially Mattheus from Albania you was an outstanding host, wine advisor and waiter. The food was brilliant, we loved the Epanadas, the sauce they came with also was lovely with your super sourdough, as was the whipped butter with herbs. The seafood grill sublime, the scallops and the mussels particularly and the garlic mayonnaise perfect.

First time here and really impressed. Fantastic setting, food and service. Antoine was a brilliant host. We’ll be coming back - I think this will fast become a favourite in our family.

We were served by Antoine, who was very helpful, informative and took great care over our service. He recommended some Brill which turned out to be brilliant (their joke 😃), and a fish neither of us had tried before. It was delicious. The scallops I had for my starter were absolutely the best I had ever tasted. They served me English Chardonnay from Kent. Another treat. We were too full for dessert, but they brought out a truffle on a plate that had piped "Happy Birthday", as my friend had mentioned it was, indeed, my birthday. (I'd eaten the truffle before I thought to take the photo.) Thoroughly recommend. They restored my faith in restaurants again.

First class service and food, couldn't fault it

An amazing place! Went there just for a lunch today but we left with emotions like we had a special occasion. Very tasty food and a very nice service. The gentleman serving us, Antoine, was extremely kind, he saw that I am pregnant and without me mentioning that I need the food well cooked he said he would notify the kitchen. Ordering for desert a truffle I got it presented like on the picture… A place where each visitor will receive a special approach. Definitely will visit again when we go Brighton.

We had a fantastic birthday meal with our daughter. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Certainly not the cheapest place to eat but it was a great meal. The only issue was the noise - my husband is hard of hearing and the acoustics are not good, especially when it’s full of noisy, chatty people enjoying their food!

Really lovely meal for two. Excellent options and great recommendations. Fabulous wild flower cocktail, lovely and unique flavour for the scallops. Excellent market fish - Brill both in name and taste.

Incredible evening, we loved it. We had an early reservation for a Saturday, 5pm. Arrived when it was quieter and were able to enjoy leisurely cocktails in the bar before going through to sit down. Very knowledgeable staff, taking care to describe the menu and ingredient/allergens. Plenty of options for gluten free. Delicious food with decent portions but not so big that we couldn't manage 3 courses! Our table was required back for evening service so we couldn't linger beyond 730 at which point the restaurant was very busy and had a great atmosphere. Really great experience and would definitely go back. Nice decor and great location across the road from the beach.

The food was amazing and the staf were so kind, will definitely come again and Tty other things, but the shrimps and mussels were spot on. Tbh everything we ordered, which we ordered everything was great .

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a wonderful experience, thanks largely to our server, Antoine. His service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making our visit special. He ensured we were well taken care of, making great recommendations and checking in at just the right moments. The food was also outstanding (lunch time set menu), perfectly prepared and full of flavour…including their margaritas! Antoine and the quality of the dishes made the entire experience memorable. Highly recommended!

A fantastic meal and the service excellent - Antoine was brilliant throughout our meal, he really read the table and gave our meal an extra bit of atmosphere. The fish was beautifully cooked and all the sides and deserts were fantastic. Highly recommend!

We went there under a reservation and ordered the early evening set menu, 3 courses for 29£ with a glass of Champagne. It sounded like a good deal. I ordered a fish soup that was very tasty. However, the bowl was ridiculously small and the slice of bread accompanying it was as thin as a paper sheet. I was very surprised as I would have thought that in a fancy seafood restaurant a fish soup would be a fairly cheap dish to prepare. As a main course, we all ordered "moules and frites". The mussels were very fresh and big, but normally they would serve them on a creamy, garlicky sauce. However, they barely had any sauce and this was a kind of salty water at the bottom of the bowl. I didn't enjoy them, unfortunately. The service was pretty good but quite slow considering there was barely any table occupied due to being early evening. In general, I was quite disappointed as I had been looking forward to this dinner for a long time.

The worse service, waited for one and half hours for the food. Very slow!!!! Aside from that whilst waiting no waiter talked to us till we’ve started asking. Came in at 7:30 pm, food came at 9pm when we’re really hungry. They are only asking how we are when they saw us already unhappy. They serve the other tables before us. Didn’t even apologise with delay!

The best seafood and good service and good views

Wow what a special lunch at The Salt Room. My bream with beetroot side was absolutely delicious. My husband loved his Ribeye steak with fries and gave it 10/10. I chose the Autumn sweets selection for dessert.. well I can honestly say I can’t remember having a more wonderful dessert in my whole life. 5 tiny but exquisite creations ! My husband loved his generous cheese board too. Lovely service . Highly recommended.

An amazing experience from start to finish. We were made to feel so welcome. Our waiter Jon was brilliant and so friendly, made sure we were happy without intruding on our night. The food was outstanding and cocktails to die for. A special birthday plate for my partner was a lovely touch.

Food was nice. The service was impeccable! Our table wasn't that nice but we didn't book as we thought it would not be busy in week days.

The fish at this restaurant is incredible. It was a birthday meal and I felt throughly treated. The decor is modern and welcoming. The mini desserts were out of this world. I will certainly return.

The food was absolutely incredible, with plenty of options for a Coeliac, with the staff fully understanding the steps necessary for safe eating. The experience was made incredible thanks to our waiter Antoine! If you are lucky enough to be dining when he is working it will thoroughly enhance your experience!! I can’t speak highly enough about Antoine and the Salt Room, recommending it to everyone in Brighton and I would definitely return!

Wow. We came as a group of 11 (with a reservation). The service was some of the best I’ve experienced, I had three gorgeous off-menu cocktails, and we shared the most amazing seafood, starters, and chocolate desserts. Thank you also for a lovely birthday dessert!

Really friendly, efficient staff, excellent menu choice, great selection of fish - hake and cod dishes well cooked and tasty, choc truffles naughty but nice!.

Absolutely lovely experience from beginning to end! The halibut was perfectly cooked and taste was sublime. Keep the crispy potatoes on the menu please, we've had them 3 times! Service was fantastic.

Had a lovely meal here this evening. Staff were attentive and fun, with great advice on food and wine choices, thank you to Antoine. Food is cooked to a very high standard with good quality ingredients and chefs knowledge of flavours.

Came from Kent to try this out and was not disappointed the food was amazing Matthew was the best the staff were great. Would recommend this place and will be coming back it’s heaven the pastrami is out of this world just WOW

We visited this restaurant on Monday, and it was hands down the highlight meal of my trip to Brighton! The food was exceptional (love the mussels and the ribeye steak), and the atmosphere was so soothing. We were lucky to have Antoine as our server—a genuinely humorous and passionate individual who made the experience even better. This is definitely a spot I'll be revisiting on my next trip to Brighton! And to Antoine, if you’re reading this, I hope you get a beautifully sunny day on your next day off! Cheers

Excellent food with excellent service!

Good service and lovely restaurant but quite disappointing food. The halibut fillet is not a fillet at all - a halibut steak would have bones but a ‘fillet’ should not have bones through it, and the “roasted cauliflower” is non-existent and apparently is a puree, and when questioned we were told it’s a mistake in how the menu is written……….not really good enough. Previous visits have been great and I praised this place highly but after the recent visit I am afraid the competition is too good to accept anything below standard and a re-visit is unlikely.

I forgot to take a photo of my main but everything was so lovely. The starter was the crab, main was skate fish and the dessert the Rum Baba. Everything was delicious and the service from Antoine was excellent. Thank you for a great experience.

Food was really good, had the scallops to start and ribeye for main. Antoine was incredible all night, extremely helpful with the food and wine, and well have just friendly: would recommend.

On the pricier side for us, but as a very special occasion it was perfect!

We had a family meal to celebrate our eldest’s 18th birthday and it was the most brilliant evening. We were warmly welcomed by Greg and then very well looked after by our waiter Callum who made great recommendations and helped make the evening feel special. The food was absolutely delicious and we were very happy. Thank you!

Charged me £40 for cancelling 55 mins beforehand for 2 people. This is theft in my opinion. There is no other restaurant that does this. They didn't even ask me why I couldn't make it!!! Utterly appalling

Due to the good reviews, I made a reservation here for my husband's birthday on the occasion of our trip to England. We were also welcomed very friendly. We were seated at a small table for two with a view of the wall instead of outside. But I didn't want to cause any trouble, so I accepted it. Starter was ok. For the main course, I chose the freshly caught whole fish. As promised, it was filleted. Unfortunately, this took a while, so it was only just lukewarm and was even cold after the first bite. Side dishes were good. However, the service now took a very long time. Sure, the restaurant was well filled and there was a large table. But how often do they pass our table empty-handed? We sat there with empty plates for about 25 minutes. So we lost the desire to order desserts. After a while, a waiter passed by and placed a plate in front of my husband with Happy Birthday on it and a small chocolate, but it was so careless. So all in all: high prices but low performance, what a bitter disappointment! We ate much better during the 14-day tour of southern England, had more beautifully presented food and much better service and paid even less for it.

Had a wonderful evening with our family, delicious food and attentive staff in a relaxing and vibrant atmosphere, I would recommend a visit.

I booked a table here but mistakenly reserved it 2 hours too early. When I dropped in to try and change the booking I found the staff member on the door to be condescending and sarcastic. I appreciate that it was entirely my own fault and there was nothing to be done at such short notice, but it could have been handled more sensitively and left me feeling uncomfortable. We had the surfboard sharing platter and the seafood was of good quality. Some parts were cooked perfectly but the mussels were overcooked and rubbery. The mussels and scallops both came in delicious sauces. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. However I did notice the staff took a bit of a “hard sell” approach when trying to recommend more expensive items. I understand the need to upsell but at times it felt pushy. Overall enjoyed our meal but certain aspects of the service made me feel not entirely welcome in the restaurant.

Vlado the waiter was exceptionally brilliant & literally helped us chose the best items from magnum Chablis to market fish - made it an night with quality food & drinks !!

We were a group of five for dinner. Everyone's food was delicious, the service was top and we had a good time. Prices are above average, but for that you get great-tasting starters and mains. Wine list was reasonable and good.

Love this place and always will, but they have put up their prices significantly!!!! 2 small starters, 1 surfboard for 2 (basically large platter of shellfish to share), 1 child menu (worth £8), 1 bottle of water, 1 soft drink and 1 glass of wine.... £ 145!!! About 6 years ago, the platter was probably about £ 25-30 pp (now 40 pp) and more generous than it is today (as staff has also confirmed). Food quality is great though and service spot on, guess cost of living crisis and inflation have played a part but we were left with quite a hefty bill for what was ordered on a weekend lunch... Still super recommended, nowadays probably more a place where to go for an occasion or evening outing

We did the London to Brighton cycle ride on 15/09/2024 and wanted to celebrate the aching bodies with a nice fish meal so we chose the Salt Rock, great atmosphere and our waiter Mathew was excellent knew all the food was very friendly with a great sense of humour. Never seen done before but turned the serviette into a handle to pour the wine.Had great night and would highly recommend. Thanks guys for a great night.

We had 2 seabream with side order had bacon on it my guest was vegeterian it was a bad exerience. Too expensive for what it was £190.00.

I was refused service when I asked to sit in the terrace with my dogs for a meal annd enjoy the beautiful sea in a lovely sunny day. I was told there is no service on the terrace (no explanation) and no dogs in the restaurant. Really unpleasant and won’t give a second try ever

We had a truly memorable lunch at The Salt Room, the whole Brill was superb. But the experience was really made by the staff who were exceptional without exception. A huge credit to Franck and the team, we will definitely be back!

Based on a recommendation from a local, when I asked for good fish, we ended up here! I'm still satiated from this evening's meal. After reading the menu outside, we decided to take a chance, and I will definitely be back as soon as I can. I was so happy to see Brazilian rum on the drink menu and took a shot in the dark and requested a caipirinha. It was perfection. Cheers to the bartender! We were seated immediately, even with no reservation on Sunday and the organic decor of large leave plants, both potted and hanging, along with natural woven fabric chandeliers situated above tree bark cut out tables, really made me feel cozy. Add to that the relaxing view of Brighton Beach and Pier. Service was top tier, and we did not feel rushed at all. Our waitress informed us of all of the specials, including fileted sea bass, among others. I have a shellfish allergy, and not only was my request to enjoy a fish meal with no shellfish, but it was so delicious! I had the crusted Cod loin, and it was so fresh and light. My guests enjoyed the salmon, carrots, potatoes, and scallop starters and were additionally amazed. We finished with the pistachio macarons. I could have sat there for another hour. I can't wait to come back and feel like a V.I.P. for such a reasonable price. This restaurant is well-managed from the front of the house to the back. The Salt Room is now in my favorites.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Salt Room. The food was excellent and very well presented. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We especially enjoyed the seabass ceviche to start and the cod for main. We weren't sat by the window unfortunately, so our sea views were a bit limited, especially as there's a busy main road between the restaurant and the sea.

The food was very good in this place. Fish was delicious and the service was very good When i got the bill there was a 1£ donation added for “love food give food” charity I do not have a problem of giving a donation but at least i want a explanation or a choice. Went to the manager and he said there was a problem With the till????? Realy you the manager and the till adds 1£ donation to every bill and your explanation is this.

Wonderful anniversary meal at The Salt Room this weekend. Excellent food (as always), exemplary service and a warm welcome all combining to make it a truly special evening. Our favourite restaurant in Brighton, and for good reason!

Visited with family including a couple of kids. The terrace looked inviting but we were advised it was all reserved despite it being empty and there still being free tables when we left which was disappointing, perhaps we were not cool enough. In fairness we hadn't booked but find the more welcoming places offer a table with a stated time for it to be returned. Mixed feelings on the food, seafood was lovely (prawns and scallops being a highlight) but the steak was not seasoned enough for our liking which at the price point felt underwhelming. The kids meals were usual fare but the portions are on the smaller side to other restaurants we have frequented however relatively cheap in comparison to the mains so while it wasnt anything special no complaints there. Service was good, most staff were polite and friendly, others less so. On arrival the person at the door was too busy pressing buttons on a screen to acknowledge us (a simple "hello, will be with you in a momemt" would have been more welcoming) but another member of staff was quick to assist. Main servers were personable and great but then there would be someone who just dumps ice on the table without a word and walks off (again a simple "is there anything else I could help with?" Would have been appreciated if only to acknowledge we were there). In the end it was a mixed experience but do think the surfboard is worth a try. However personally I didn't find the food compelling enough to try again when there are so many other options.

My go to location when in Brighton, food & service are amazing. Great for one off celebrations or every day treats.

There was nothing to fault about the whole experience! Every item perfectly cooked, an excellent bottle or two of Chenin Blanc, fantastic service. We she’ll definitely be back. If you are having one meal in Brighton I’d strongly recommend Salt Room.

You were brilliant - the food amazing, the service stunning and anyone that gets Callum looking after them is very fortunate- he’s attentive professional, informative and thoughtful. We were supposed to have the family event at Soho House but cancelled there because of various reasons and came here instead - it was a great decision. It worked out well. And we I’ll most definitely be back. Thanks for a great party.

The food here was immaculate, and the attention to detail to the food was excellent. The staff explained everything on the menu to the very detail so you knew what you were eating. Excellent lunch.

A perfect night, the soup was great, the oysters delicious, and the grilled lemon sole was great with one side of crispy potatoes to share - a tip from the waiter that turned out to be exactly right. Our Prosecco & chilled carafe of Portuguese white wine accompanied them perfectly. Two things that needed refining - the sole could have used a lemon wedge, just to bring out the delicate sole, which was almost perfectly balanced with the salty samphire and creamy sauce. The description of it coming with ‘potted shrimp’ was misleading - and the explanation for this wasn’t really coherent. The second element was that the Whiskey Baba(top centre of the photo) was underwhelming - nice enough flavour but not really elegant or refined enough for the price we paid. Lovely spot, and the staff were on top of things even as it got busy - the wait between starter and main was a little longer than we expected, but we were fine - and we really didn’t expect the celebratory truffles - a lovely touch and a nice memory for us.
