I'm not a vegan I just appreciate good food, I kept smelling the most gorgeous smell when walking past everyday. Popped in on 2 4 1 burger night I have to say the Roundhill burger was an absolute triumph tasty is an understatement 100% will be eating there as often as I can, highly recommend for vegans and non vegans alike

The food was not great, and some super strange vibes from one of the waiters/bartenders on Friday night. He gave half of our table their drinks/food for free and the other half paid as normal. Acted generally odd/stared a lot/listened in on our conversations and made some of us a bit uncomfortable. The other bartender was friendly, but can't say I'd ever come back, which is a shame as it's super local to us.

We went here as had previously heard positive things. Big mistake. We booked a table, but once seated we waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged, this is not an exaggeration. They had run out of both lager and cider on draught, I work in pubs and I know things run out, but that is ridiculous, whoever is ordering the beer needs to up their game. Wine was served in tumblers, which is just a personal thing I dislike. They had run out of cauliflower cheese, we went late in the day so fair enough, it was just another thing though. No specials, despite offering specials on the Sunday menu, I understand not doing specials when doing roasts as it’s a lot of work but why actively offer it. The roast itself was okay, below average. Yorkie was nice, which is good given the fact it is all vegan, but all the veg was hard and lacked flavour. Gravy and the horseradish cream were both good. The menu stated it came with beetroot puree and broccoli, it came with neither. They were understaffed, not their fault but it showed. I understand it was late in the day, but maybe don’t offer food or the option to book tables when the experience provided was so awful. The worst dining out experience I’ve had in a while, I’m sorry to say. I’m really not a Karen but I’d advise you not to waste your money.

Gorgeous cosy pub serving vegan food, delicious roasts on a Sunday. Would advise going a bit later as we had to wait for our table even though we booked. We went today and there was not one beer available on tap (only bottled beer, wine, or soft drinks etc). Also their 'biscoff mousse' which sounds delicious was just a glass of very liquidy cream with a Biscoff biscuit in the top and the strongest tasting syrup which was too strong to eat for over £5. Stick with the sticky toffee pud!

Very tasty roast with mushroom & beetroot Wellington but more roast veg & greens would have made it much better & more filling. I wasn’t completely full when finishing, which I’ve never experienced with a vegan Sunday roast in other places/cities. 30 mins wait time minimum from ordering. Some people waited 50 mins for theirs.

Firstly, I do have to say Adam (the owner) was wonderful and gave us a discount after the experience we had. Cannot fault him at all, I'm devastated to have to write this but I wish I had read some of the negative reviews before coming here as our experience was the same. Based on the strong reviews we chose this pub for my birthday, but half the food we got was so undercooked it wasn't safe to eat (e.g. completely raw cauliflower cheese, raw batter in the yorkies) as well as things added to the plate that are not listed in the menu (the whole plate was covered in beetroot sauce) we were so disappointed, it really put a dampener on the day. When we tried to tell the wait staff about this, they took the plates and we were then ignored for over half an hour. Side note - the wait staff are dressed in addidas trackies and crop tops with midriffs completely on show, I'm not old fashioned by any means but we wouldn't have chosen to go here knowing this because it looks unprofessional and unhygienic. The seating is so cramped that you will be bashed into constantly, I cannot stress this enough. The edible parts of the food were nice, but overall nothing compared to any vegan roast anywhere else. Watching other people leaving large amounts of their food too while we waited for a member of the wait staff to stop ignoring us suggested that it wasn't just us. I hate to leave a negative review anywhere but coming here spoilt a special occasion, really regret it and I don't want anyone else to go into it not knowing that it is a risk.

We love the roundhill for a sunday roast. Staff are friendly food is fabulous and all vegan whats not to like? Went back for a birthday treat, not as good as it used to be just ok. Parsnip was hard cauliflower cheese not really cheesy. Felt cramped round the table should seat 2 but there were 3 of us. Don't think we would return , prefer our own roast dinners ,soz

..wow, what the hell just happened??? A large group of us just had sunday lunch at this once-loved Brighton pub. It now appears to be run by people who don't know how to run a pub, with food cooked by people who don't know how to cook.... how hard is it to make a roast potato for goodness sake??? Ours were RAW, as were most of the vegetables. And the bizarre practice of not being able to pay for your food upfront means you get the pleasure of queueing up to order, and then queueing up again at the end to pay?! Very odd. Whoever is in the kitchen should really not be..

Unfortunately a really average experience today. I'm vegan and gluten free and was looking forward to a decent roast at The Roundhill. Placed our order and was then advised that the new chef no longer provides gluten free Yorkshire puds or gluten free cauliflower cheese so had to go without. Portions felt a little measly - My partner had the seitan which was only one slice and I had the nut roast (which was luke warm) we only got 1 piece of carrot and 1 piece of parsnip, Ordered the gluten free sticky toffee pudding for dessert only to be told there was none left (we were a 2pm sitting). No other gluten free options available. Staff were friendly and helpful but overall left feeling disappointed.

We have visited the Roundhill many times over the last few years for various celebrations, birthdays/anniversaries ect. Today we visited for a Sunday roast with friends visiting for the states. Unfortunately the quality of the food and the service left a lot to be desired, potatoes and veg barely cooked, portions much smaller than they used to be, offhand comments from staff about members of our party and a general feeling of annoyance radiating from the staff. Such a shame as the food and service on previous visits has been outstanding.

This place had some great reviews and I was reassured I would not regret going there as food was supposed to be lovely. I found a rather limited choice of dishes, the mushroom "hamburger" I ordered was nice but far from exceptional. Also, perhaps a choice of life music that was introduced as evening progressed should be reconsidered. I understand that young people are keen to start their career somewhere, but I was not prepared for high volume life performance while having a chat with my friend over a dinner. And definitely this place is a little too pricey for my taste. Not sure if I will ever have a courage to revisit.

Used to be superb and I recommended to many people in the past. Really, really disappointing these days. The outside looks like a tip. Especially the bit used by the staff. Ashtray full to the brim, empty Red Bull cans. No-one taking ownership of the place. And no better on the inside. Wine shelf above the bar empty, fallen off beer badges just left lying on the bar. Dead leaves on the plants. Tables dirty, no waiter taking a drinks order. The whole place is simply grubby and you would think twice about getting a draught beer as you can't be sure if the lines get cleaned. The food was still just about ok but no more than that and seeing how the bar area looks you wonder what the hygiene situation is in the kitchen.

We should have known. In all our years of attending the Roundhill it was never possible to book a last minute table; a month in advance was the norm. So where to begin? Disappointment. Sadness. Anger. The Roundhill was a pioneer of vegan cooking for years. The pinnacle of the Brighton Sunday roast scene. Where did it all go wrong? From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was like a lead balloon. This was not the Roundhill we knew and loved. No acknowledgement - no one cared. We felt ignored. The previous shabby chic has lost its renaissance glow, in its place tired misery. Food? Uncooked, raw broccoli, limp soggy potatoes, lukewarm throughout. Gelatinous mush masquerading as seitan, a terribly sorry excuse for a Yorkshire - previously people had travelled from all four corners of the globe to experience the famous roundhill Yorkshire- what a woeful fall from grace. In fact, we watched it sitting unattended on the pass for 15 minutes. The waiting staff couldn’t have cared less, with a uniform more akin to a night out in Ibiza on the sunset strip. Please avoid at all costs - such a shame the wonderful old proprietor has passed the mantle on to the neck tattooed boy on the laptop, who has allowed this bastion of vegan food to be washed down the drain. What a disgrace.

Very disappointed to be leaving a negative review after recommending this pub to many vegans and non vegans in the past. First visited in February 2023, where the food, service and atmosphere were excellent, yet has seemed to plummet since. We visited on Sunday. Food was okay, vegetables were a little undercooked, and believe the prices have increased yet the quality of food has gone down. Service was quite terrible. The waitress tried to find our booking, but couldn’t find anywhere so left us to find another waitress (no communication with us), then we see her serving food to others. Understanding they may have been understaffed, we patiently waited. Once her and another waitress came back, they point at a table in the corner or said we can sit outside. We choose to sit outside, but had to wait a very long time to get our order taken. Found the waitresses quite rude and uninterested. At one point I asked a question about the menu and the waitress gave me a rude one word response. Hoping with these negative reviews increasing, the pub will take action to improve.

It has been so lovely having a great vegan pub restaurant so close to home but latest visit was a massive disappointment. Menu has been changed for the worse, limiting choice (with no options for kids). The food that arrived was not only 50 mins in the waiting, it was really poor quality. Even the ever-reliable vegan burgers were not appetising.. The place also looked a bit of a mess with loads of glasses piled up on the bar. The staff gave us a free bottle of wine for our disappointment (thanks :) ) but the whole experience left us feeling that we won’t return. Such a pity when something great and local loses its way!

I had the worse fried ‘chicken’ burger and service at this restaurant. I must say that I ate the majority of the burger before realising that I was not enjoying it. I then disassembled it to find that the faux chicken; it looked like a gelatinous lump with no flavour. I tried to cut the large piece with a fork and failed. The fork with just bonce back. I did eat the chips and the bun and left the rest of the burger. I complained to the waiter who was very uninterested, even when I showed my fork bouncing back from the burger! No discount was offered because I ate the majority of the plate before I realised there was an issue!

So sorry to write that this was a complete letdown. We had the olives, gherkins and cauliflower for starters: 10/10. But the main dishes were simply horrendous. The home made seitan on the Caesar's salads smelled horrible, it was also slightly burnt so really bitter (???) and overall impossible to eat, unless drowsed in mayonnaise (which we did, because we were starving). The vegan coco bacon adds a sweet note to the salad that was overall just sickening. The vegan chicken burgers contain the same seitan, and a THICK slice of it, so they also smelled bad. The burger buns were burnt, dry and the fries soggy. We also had "spicy" margaritas that weren't spicy at all. We had to have the bill corrected because 3 items were on it that we didn't order. I'm writing this review because I don't understand what happened there at all, after all the good reviews we had high hopes and were really excited about this place. But it's hard to understand how so much could go wrong with such simple dishes. Please please please review your seitan recipe!!!

UPDATE: Following a response from the manager, I'd like to make a few further points. Adam, while it wasn't your intention to cause issues by parking illegally, and you 'require access' - this doesn't place you above the law, nor does it take precedence over the safety of local residents and other road users/pedestrians. I appreciate that you'd have preferred I come and speak to you/leave a note, but I didn't want to. I don't appreciate you saying that my review affects your sales/staff, I'm sure they do work hard, but I'd argue that it was your actions that have affected these things, not me just choosing to point out facts that pertain to your establishment. I also see that you've conveniently failed to address the time you chose to not display a missing cat poster, which is hardly in the spirit of community. Manager of the pub, Adam, parks on double yellows opposite the pub, blocking the view of traffic for cars trying to pull onto the main road. Creates a dangerous situation because he refuses to park anywhere other than 5 metres from his place of work. Also refused to display a missing cat poster in the pub’s window.

Visited The Roundhill 10th March 2024 for mothers day... Booked as a treat by my son. Arrived and stood for around 10 mins at the bar.. No eye contact or acknowledgement from any staff member, eventually had to get the attention of a lost looking young lad to say we had a reservation... He then looked for our booking on the computer and couldn't find it... Until I pointed it out for him, he proceeded to show us to a very small round table squeezed between the kitchen and toilet with 2 seats and said he would get another chair for our party of 3, this would have blocked the entrance to the toilet! I explained this wouldn't be suitable, so he went to speak to another member of staff... He then came back and offered us another very small round table ( not enough room for 3 plates of food) and squeezed us in another corner. I asked if we could sit at the table next to us as this had enough room for 3 people, He said it wasn't possible as reserved for a party of 2 and the timings wouldn't work!? This seemed ridiculous to me but we sat at the table given. By this time we had been there approx 20 mins... We waited to be served for another 10 mins... At which point another party was seated and brought water straight to their table. At this point we were feeling very ignored and my son and husband felt bad as this was meant to be a treat for mothers day. We decided to call it a day and left. I called the restaurant when we were making our way back to the car as my son felt uncomfortable about making a scene in the restaurant... I spoke to Imogen who had been serving behind the bar, she was very apologetic about what had happened and offered to sort it out... I said we would feel awkward about returning at that point, so she said the manager would call to speak to us in an hour... This was at 3.30pm....they never called. All I can say is, we have been on several occasions and had reasonably good service.... This on the other hand was extremely poor. Such a shame as we won't be returning.

Place has really gone downhill since we last visited. The place was pretty much empty and we could see why. Staff seemed lost like they didn’t know what they were doing and would obviously rather be on their phones then serving anyone. Our table was okay but we felt ignored throughout the entire meal. Food was pretty good but nothing else seemed to match that standard. We had only come a few months ago just before Christmas and the difference was clearly very apparent. Last time the pub felt warm and cosy and very welcoming and the staff were lovely. Seems like a lot of changes have been made for the worst. Could have done with some better lighting and quieter music. Unfortunately we will not be returning as the manager? (Guy with the fresh haircut and neck tattoo) was incredibly rude to us when we said we were shocked at the prices being so high (£7 for a pint and nothing to brag about) and we could overhear him being rude about both me and my partner to the other staff which was incredibly unprofessional and clearly why the staff looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. He was also helping himself to more drink then they seemed to be selling which obviously explains his rudeness. Such a shame to see this place flop after such a good summer here .

Haven’t been to this pub for a while and when we first walked in we were a little confused why the place was completely dead as this place was always packed to the rafters. The food was ok for the price and was nice although not terribly creative and usually for vegan there wasn’t many vegetables. The pub needs a specials board rather than just the same old sheet of burgers. Cold - omg I know the Russians are screwing us for oil atm but you need to have the heating on with single panes of glass in your windows, or better still get that fire place working and it will be toasty. Drink price - whilst your food was reasonably priced the pints of cider were around £7.50 a tad too expensive for a pub. Atmosphere - lighting too bright, music too quiet and too boring, tables needed candles (to warm it up if nothing else) I would return but prob not till the summer, as a business you can’t afford that so I recommend actioning some of the above. Also the lady on service was perfectly friendly but her energy level didn’t match ours and this will always irritate.

We'd been twice before and on each occasion it was outstanding. So, our visit yesterday was a real disappointment. The starters were great but of the mains, mine was cold and had to go back for a re-heat which meant the nan was then over-done, and in the Buddha bowl the batter round the cauliflower was raw. They'd run out of hummus so that was missing but we were told when we ordered. Unfortunately, the staff seemed to be wishing they were somewhere else. It was a real shame as we'd taken friends specially and felt let down.

Not the warmest place to be in January, it’s a summer venue which we have enjoyed in the past. Not even having the blankets on our knees helped with the draft. The menu has not changed! We’ve been wanting to try this place since it became a plant based venue but never got around to it. Last night we gave it a go. Whilst the menu description of the dishes looked interesting in reality they weren’t. I opted for the Bombay Naan which was excellent, my wife went for the Buddha Bowl. This arrived with pitta breads, red cabbage, tofu in what looked like batter, edamame beans, some kimchi, a smear of hummus, quinoa and some falafel one of which was doubling as a snooker ball (it was hard). We looked at reviews of the Buddha Bowl at home and many diners had given glowing reviews and descriptions of the aforementioned dish which in this instance bore no resemblance to what arrived (see previous reviews). The pub was cold and whilst the service was good, there was no bitter on tap, however the Guinness was good. Previous reviewers had mentioned “award winning” and maybe when The Roundhill first became plant based it was but with advent of other plant based venues in the area The Roundhill I’m afraid missed the mark. Oh, the Panko Olives were good though.

We came on a Wednesday, which I would never do again. There are plenty of great reviews for the Sunday roast! But unfortunately this was a bit of a messy experience across the board. The Roundhill's website shows the standard a la carte menu, various drinks menus and the Sunday roast menu, as well as a flyer for pasta night. When making our booking, we were presented with the standard a la carte dining option or the pasta option. We decided to give the pasta a miss and book for the a la carte. When we arrived we were presented with a reduced version of the a la carte menu, especially for Wednesdays, due to the pasta menu/offer/deal. This isn't displayed anywhere on the website, which I don't think is fair or transparent. They were also lacking a lot of the larger dishes, leaving a burger option, the wrap option and small plates. The menus we were given were heavily faded on the left, making it unclear which dishes were GF and which were GFO. When we ordered from the menu, we asked about some of the GFO versions, which resulted in the person serving us having to leave three separate times to check what the GFO actually meant. For example, the GFO for the loaded fries, removes the topping (seitan, which the person serving us wasn't aware is literally gluten). Leaving chips with sauce and gherkins, for the same price as the regular loaded version. After we'd ordered, the person serving us returned a few minutes later to inform us they usually have a cheeseburger loaded fries, which is GF, so they could do that instead, which we were super appreciative of and happy to go ahead with. As our food came out, at least 1/3 of the dishes were cold to the point where you couldn't tell if they were meant to be served cold, or just hadn't been properly heated/kept warm. This included both versions of the cauli wings we ordered, the cheeseburger fries, and the corn, which was by far the coldest. Nobody came to ask how our food was, or check in, so I went and told the person serving us about our issue, who insisted they were hot when they came out the pass, however the fact remains that these items were cold when they were put on our table, which was disappointing. We were told the pasta night was a new direction for them, but the whole evening felt very unorganised, overly complicated and disappointing. What's more we saw roasts being served and when we asked a staff member about this, they mentioned they can be booked in advance, however on the website the roasts are listed as Sunday roasts, which made us think they were only served on Sundays and require booking in advance, again, this could be us misunderstanding but it doesn't clearly state they are available any day as long as you pre-book. Also when booking the table, as mentioned above, we were only presented with two options; a la carte or pasta. We were kindly treated to not having to pay for some of the cold items, but the whole experience felt confusing and disappointing. I appreciate this may be a new direction for them, but it felt like it hadn't been trialled much or given enough thought.

Came for the pasta and wine £10 deal, it used to be incredible, with lovely fresh pasta and interesting flavours and toppings (mushroom and truffle one was incredible) but the pasta I had this time was incredibly basic, literally tomato sauce and fusilli that could have come from a tin and basic unseasoned spaghetti that barely tasted of anything. Service was nice but it's just such a shame the food standards are not what they were. Also the chef was eating some spaghetti with his bare hands in the open kitchen which was a bit off putting, maybe use a fork in front of customers haha😅 wine was amazing though!

A delightful experience coming to the roundhill. The staff were so welcoming & friendly, and the food was tremendous. Would highly recommend to any vegans wanting a superb Sunday roast at decent prices. Good range of local draught IPA'd & lagers, and no added service charge; definitely tip the great staff though

Fantastic food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere. The Sunday roast is great and they're happy to cater for large groups. Toilets are nice and clean, it's warm and food arrives quickly. The only improvements I could suggest would be if they could be more generous with the condiments, get rid of some of the seats at the bar so it's easier to get to and put some cushions on the wooden chairs. Having recently revisited, I would add that the cream & biscoff dessert needs more flavour and the roast could do with one fewer sauces (just gravy).

Maybe it was a bad day but the roast was far from the 5* reviews seen here; had the seitan and it was only just warm when it arrived. It tasted... fine... But I swear the roast potatoes were deep fried and they were undercooked inside. And the place could've done with the heating turned up a bit. The staff were really nice tho. Like I said it must've been a bad day. I'll try it again someday.

Had a great time! The food was so so lovely, and the service was amazing. Only thing I would say is the non-alcoholic old fashioned wasn’t worth the money but to be honest probably quite hard to replicate that flavour. But will definitely be coming back to try more!!

A pleasant, plant-based place to be. The green-fingered vibes all around make sense when you realise that The Roundhill Brighton is best known for their 100% plant based menu. On this visit myself and friends tucked into their plant based Sunday Roast. Most of us went for the Wellington and it was excellent. I'm not vegan or vegetarian and I honestly did not care that there was no meat in sight, nor would I have noticed that the food was completely plant based if no one had mentioned it. The gravy and cauli cheese could have fooled me, absolutely delicious and very filling. Read more about The Roundhill and discover many other Brighton pubs on my blogsite

Worst Sunday roast ever everything seemed to be precooked and tasteless. Potatoes were dry and unedible and the whole meal was served cold. Staff though were lovely.

Amazing experience! I visited with two friends for a roast this Sunday. We were originally booked for a table outside but it was chucking it down so we asked on the off chance whether there would be a possibility for a table indoors (it was super busy and we didn’t think it would be possible). A lovely member of staff (unfortunately didn’t catch her name) went above and beyond to get us a table indoors so we could comfortably enjoy our lovely roast dinners and gave us cosy blankets while we were sat outside for the meantime. When we were given the table inside the atmosphere was super cosy and it was nice and warm. Vegan beef roast dinner was absolutely unreal and we left feeling nice and full. One of the best roast dinners I have had in Brighton and will most definitely be rushing back! Thank you so much! x

Sunday lunch food was pretty good with some great flavours ... Beetroot puree and the celeriac hazelnut roll were especially good ... And also the Wellington. Unfortunately some of the veg was too stringy and chewy to eat ... the broccoli and cabbage mainly. One of our group said the Seitan fake beef was very bland, too However, overall good value and a good size portion. Our main problem was that we were seated outside and it rained! Inside was fully booked, and there were no tables for us, so we had to sit in a row on stools ... Not ideal for a birthday lunch! My advice would be not to sit outside unless the weather is sure to be good and also to be aware that it's very noisy outside as the tables are right by the road. The staff did what they could!

Came to order drinks - staff on bar not noticing me awaiting to be served whilst in mobile phone -made presence announcedgpt attention. Wanted to puchase drink with cash only as purse recently got stolen and cards disabled. Inability to provide cash flow to allow transaction . Inability to get 10 p off amount allowing poor cash flow ! Unable to order drink - not great experience , again .

Tried the award winning Sunday roast at the Roundhill pub in Brighton. Absolutely delicious! I had the roast celeriac roll and my husband had the seitan brisket. The veggies were beautifully cooked and the gravy was to die for! Lovely atmosphere & friendly staff. It's a 20-25 min uphill walk from the seafront which nearly killed us (it was hot on Sunday!) but I think there's a bus that goes up the hill. Highly recommended 😋

Came here with my partner, sister and her partner, they all had the Seitan “beef” brisket roast and I had the Celeriac. We all loved our food, good portion sizes and very well cooked! The staff were very personable and helpful, and the pub itself was very beautiful. My only gripe.. please please please get some blinds and fans! It was SO hot with the sun beaming in through all the glass, heating the room like a greenhouse; we were sweating, all the other customers were sweating, your poor staff were sweating. A few fans behind the bar for your hardworking staff and some blinds for the customers and the experience was 10/10. Thank you for a lovely afternoon😊

I came to this establishment for my birthday dinner, accompanied by my daughter and her boyfriend, hoping for a lovely celebratory day out. In turn we were met by a man, who I later found out through friends was the owner, who treated us incredibly rudely for the entirety of our visit. We attempted to inquire about the allergen information of the food and were met with hostility and vague answers. I was particularly upset as my daughter had several allergies which we were obviously hoping to avoid. As the owner of a restaurant , one should be well versed on their own menu and shouldn’t treat customers as a burden when they ask about the food. An incredibly uncomfortable experience- and I would advice people to avoid!!!!! Side note- the bar staff were lovely and our main issue was the angry hostility of the owner, who is supposedly called Adam.

Had a very poor experience here, were ignored by staff not given any service. Not given table despite having one booked, waited over an hour to be served. Food was cold and cauliflower cheese inedible but there were no staff taking any notice of us so we couldn't say anything. Definitely cheeky at the end when I asked for bill them saying about adding a tip. I didn't even know which woman was our waitress because they were both actively avoiding us for some reason. Took the day off work and went completely out of our way to come here and honestly I wouldn't ever come back, felt pretty robbed at the end of it having to pay for such non existent service and poor food which is shame as there's some really great options for vegans in the area but the whole situation just made us feel really awkward and then just angry afterwards to be honest. I hate writing reviews like this but we were so disappointed and still are as we were looking forward to it.
