The Salmon Inn in Stroud

Has changed hands again very recently. So we went for lunch on a tuesday. The food took nearly an hour to be served. It was overpriced. The chicken and bacon salad I had had no bacon. I had to ask for it. It has been forgotten! The chicken was burnt and it was a small portion. We used to eat here all the time, but after this and the last meal we had last year, we won't be returning. Have been to two other pubs owned by this company recently and they were so much better. Even though the menu was the same, they were better value, better portions and much nicer food.

We waited quite a while for our order to be taken, different food was ordered, husbands chilli £16.50 without anything else, just chilli and rice, not even any garlic bread, it had a skin on the chilli from hanging around, burgers were very basic, just burger and chips, not very hot, I could not be bothered to complain as it’s too much hassle, very overpriced, and not much variety on the menu, I come out to eat something different, other than, chilli, lasagna, and sweet and sour pork!! Used to be nice, as I said previously very overpriced!!

Really lovely atmosphere - friendly, helpful staff . The food was very good and large portions! Santa visit was lovely for the children.

This lovely village pub is under new management and wow, they have made their mark already. The atmosphere is brilliant, food delicious and there are many events organised to enjoy. We attended on curry night - my husband and I had the beef madras which was really tasty. My Dad had the chef’s beef and ale pie - and he thought it was delicious! We feel that this pub is a valued part of our community and can’t wait to go again on Friday for the live music entertainment!

Our local. New landlords so keen to try it out. They are doing Sunday roasts again now and a curry night. But we went mid week. Lovely family running it, very welcoming. We had the sea bass and cauliflower cheese. All was nicely cooked and fresh, but the portions were quite small for the prices. A small bowl of cauliflower cheese with bacon bits on top and garlic bread and a small salad for £15 was a bit steep. The sea bass and veg was a smallish portion too. But would go again though.

Lots of parking. Great welcome. Great service. Lots to choose from on the menu & specials board. All served hot & fresh. Lovely crumble! We will definitely return.

This is our local pub just down the road from our house . Everytime we have been for food or just a drink the service & welcome has been fantastic. The food menu is limited but the quality is very good. If you like a good local then this is highly recommended. See you soon Kent & the team

Close to where we are staying, we are glad we chose to have our last night holiday meal here. Fish n chips, pie & boar burger were all great. Generous portions and lovely friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit for people visiting this area 😁

Family “ ladies that lunch” Friday 1st March - fabulous food , best piece of salmon I have ever had , cooked to perfection, and the bed of soft noodles it was served on were delicious being able to taste each element of the lemon and soy as described on the specials board and the broccoli was al dente - perfect. Other food in the party included - steak, steak burger and some even made it to the fresh home made deserts ,lemon meringue pie and apple and rhubarb crumble with a pot of custard . Hats off to Wendy the chef and fabulous service from Grace and Kent (the family who run the pub and who worked great together as a team) definitely worth a visit. Lovely cosy dining area to sit in, a lovely treat. Raining and windy outside warm and cosy inside.

Unfortunately really terrible experience today. Went with my two sons and our family dog. My youngest fell off the playground and was screaming. Naturally I went to him to pick him up and comfort him. The waitress came over telling me off shouting how dogs aren't allowed and to get off. I had to then take her off away from my crying child as she continued to lecture me. We don't have a lot opportunity to go out as it's costly and genuinely felt like just going home and leaving the food the kids were sad and upset and confused with her and the situation became really nasty for no reason. You could see he was clearly upset and hurt on the floor and she expected me to just leave him? Really poor... wish I hadn't wasted the time or money on this visit.

Great lunch, lovely food and good sized helpings. Swift and efficient service. Pleasant and efficient staff. We’ll definitely be returning.

We were close by taking a horse to a local veterinary hospital and we stopped off for a lunchtime bite to eat. We were very glad we did, the pub was lovely and we had an excellent reasonably priced meal. An absolute gem.

Warm welcome, excellent table service and good pub grub. Delicious Scampi, good piece of Cod and good children’s menu. Very accommodating and would definitely recommend.

Had 2 x rump steaks for £25. This was the best steak we have had for years. I thought it was Fillet. Thick and rare, perfectly cooked no fat at all no sinew just soft and tender. Highly recommended nice ambience. We will be back very soon. Thank you so much. Xx

it’s been a few months, but we were so shocked at the time it’s taken a while to process. To cut a long story short if possible; we booked as a family on a Sunday (my husbands originally from the area, we heard there was a new chef) and we’d eaten here in previous years. We arrived, mid Sunday lunch, 1.00 o’ clock, and were greeted by no-one?! Wasn’t overly busy, surly, miserable barman/landlord??..behind the bar ..merely pointed us towards a lovely if somewhat clueless waitress? She went to ‘check the book’ which seemed no help at all, and then nervously showed us to our table. As we were sitting , a somewhat distraught looking untidy young lady appeared from a side door carrying three cups ..making tea/coffee for staff I presume, didn’t look great in front of customers I have to say We decided to go straight to Mains, Roast Beef was ok, not at all over cooked, just chewy? Potatoes were best ever?! Yorkies and veg like wise ..shame about the meat. Desserts ..I mean I’m controlling my language here ..lemon curd tart..was a dry piece of burnt pastry with some lemon curd on top..I mean seriously??!..are they taking the p**s?! We Didn’t complain as it was my Mum’s birthday but seriously ..WAKE UP!!

This is the second time we've eaten here after a walk with friends, albeit some time apart. The food today for lunch was very good again. The barmaid/waitress was very friendly, and welcoming. The menu included venison casserole (absolutely delish), home made steak pie (2 of our party had this and said it was very good) and even the good old beef burger good a thumbs up and looked very tasty. The prices are very good too. The pudding menu was too tempting to ignore so 3 out of 4 had puds and said they were equally good! Fab pub with good range of real ale and other drinks, great food at good prices.

The pub we'd intended to have lunch at was closed so we found this on Google maps and thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did! Although short-staffed, the cheerful barmaid/waitress couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. The set lunch menu included pheasant 'au vin' for just £9 and it was absolutely delicious! The sauce was rich and tasty and the green vegetable selection was cooked to perfection. We were told there is a new chef - obviously worth their weight in gold! My friend was impressed by an ale he'd not tasted before. All in all a fantastic find.

Staff shortages due to effects of staff isolating due to covid. Only one member of staff front of house and one waitress. No huge delays considering the staffing levels. It was quite busy. Meals were fine accept chips were overcooked. It wouldn't put me off a return visit as we feel things would be better without the pressures of staffing issues caused by covid. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Really well maintained and attractive pub, inside and out with great outdoor space as it has a play area and picnic tables and safely back from the road. Nice food (lasagnes) and service. It was quiet on the lunchtime we went so lacked a little atmosphere (maybe some music in restaurant?) but would return.

My daughter was able to reserve an area for a get together of guests on the evening before her wedding. They were very accommodating for her. The pub/restaurant is very welcoming and they had about 40 -50 people to serve during the evening and everyone was pleased with their food - it was well presented and tasty. We loved it and would thoroughly recommend it. It's a short drive out of the village of Berkeley (you can walk if you have the time!)

Just lovely to be able to go back out (post lock down) and enjoy some pub grub. Good service and good food on offer. Their menu offers a good choice, with a daily specials board.

Excellent service with really good food. Eight of us had family lunch here and the food choices were good and all delicious.

We arrived at 1400 for lunch having pre-booked and the venue was not busy. Whilst we received a warm welcome, thereafter we seemed forgotten and the staff were not attentive. Ordering took a long time and the arrival of TWO courses plus coffee took us until nearly 1700. Fortunately we were not in a hurry but had we been, then this would have been unacceptable.

Great Sunday lunch, usually 3 choices of meat with home made roasties, cauli cheese, yorkshires and lots of veg. The good value specials board has interesting dishes and usually includes local game and fish in season. Lovely garden with kids play area. Friendly staff, covid safe.

I visited The salmon last week hopping to have a Sunday lunch as I had a take away one and it was delicious but unfortunately they weren't doing them so I chose from the menu a Berger in a broche bun and chips it was £13 so I expected a really exceptional meal but was so disappointed I got a white roll 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of getkin a little mayonnaise lettuce leaf and a Berger that was small but it tasted nice, as were the chips , certainly won't be choosing that again a very overpriced meal.

We ordered a Sunday Lunch takeaway to have at my mums (in our support bubble).The food and experience was amazing this afternoon. The beef tasted perfect, the portions were big, it was still lovely and warm plus the effort they but into a gluten free serving was really appreciated.At only £10 a meal its definitely worth it.It made mothers day. Definitely will order again and recommend to anyone.

An enjoyable venue with friendly and accommodating staff, good food, and an ample serving. Fairly often when out I tend to order a side, as the main meal doesn't quite fill, but on this occasion, the side could've easily been done without (see photos for reference).Top Marks for their Banoffee Tart/Pie too, very generous in size and bloody tasty, as was the boar burger and everything else that accompanied.

Good service and great food as usual - the Lamb Shank was amazing! Visit on a regular basis and the food never disappoints, good for afternoon / evening meals and also do a very nice Sunday roast!

We booked to eat here as it was highly rated on TripAdvisor and local to Cattle Country (where we were visiting during the latter part of the summer holiday). This place was also participating in the "Eat Out To Help Out" scheme.There were 3 adults, 2 kids and a toddler in a high chair.There was a bit of a queue at the entrance - which meant groups congregating at the bar waiting to be seated, which was not ideal. But there was adequate alcohol gel and wipes etc on a table in the entrance.When seated we had our drinks order taken and looked at the menu/specials.Then some of us took the kids outside to play in the lovely little outdoor play area (through a dedicated exit). Another queue to get back inside due to the one way system. The food was very nice and the service was also good. We had a very nice 3 courses and will certainly be back again. Ideal for a sunny day in the beer garden or I wouldn't mind trying a roast on a Sunday there.

Esta fue nuestra segunda visita al Salmon Inn y esta vez trajimos amigos con nosotros foo. Viajamos desde el Bosque de Dean, que no es algo que haríamos a menos que la comida y el servicio valieran la pena. Las dos veces que hemos visitado han sido excelentes y estoy seguro de que volveremos. Precioso jardín de pub, comida y opciones increíbles en el menú, me encanta que también se admiten perros. ¡Altamente recomendado!

Reservamos una mesa para que nos sentaran afuera para el almuerzo. Las mesas estaban bien distanciadas (6 mesas grandes para 8 personas y 6 mesas para cuatro personas estaban disponibles en el jardín). Tuvimos un delicioso almuerzo y un gran servicio. A mi hijo le encantan sus nuggets de pollo caseros y ha estado soñando con ellos durante todo el encierro de Covid - 19. Somos clientes habituales aquí para el almuerzo y estamos felices de apoyar un negocio de propiedad de la comunidad. Siempre hay una buena selección de especialidades del chef en el tablero además de todos los clásicos de pub. Esté preparado, si pide el pescado con patatas fritas, saldrá como una ballena con patatas fritas.

Visita familiar primer viaje después del cierre y el Salmon fue el lugar perfecto para ir. Todos disfrutamos de nuestras comidas y del medio ambiente. El personal era amable y también muy eficiente. La comida estuvo muy buena. Todos elegimos comidas diferentes y todos las disfrutamos. Opté por el bacalao con patatas fritas y he estado tratando de encontrar pescado y patatas fritas de pub realmente bueno, lo cual no es tan fácil. El bacalao con patatas fritas era excelente, aunque era tan grande que no pude comerlo todo, lo cual fue una pena. La masa era ligera y crujiente, perfectamente preparada y la calidad del bacalao era excelente. En mi opinión, el precio de una comida de esa calidad era demasiado bajo, vale más de lo que pagamos.

Food was absolutely delicious. Could not fault it. Service was great and staff really lovely. Always a pleasure.

Lived within 10 miles of this place all my life and only found it recently. Wish I found it sooner! Food is brilliant, well priced, good sized portions and very tasty. Good atmosphere and feels clean and tidy. Staff are helpful and there is plenty of them! Too many places we attend are under staffed! Roast dinner we had today was very good and we will 100% return again. A very high scoring 4/5!

Pedimos 2 comidas de pizza para niños, 1 comida de nuggets de pollo para niños, 2 comidas de hamburguesa de carne con tocino y queso y el bacalao y papas fritas medianas.¡Las comidas de los niños eran del tamaño de mis comidas habituales en casa! Las hamburguesas eran enormes y sabrosas pero el bacalao. . . . bueno, eso fue descomunal y delicioso! No hace falta decir que solo pude manejar alrededor de 2/3 de eso, ¡había tanto!Todas las comidas fueron preparadas a la perfección y tenían un sabor fantástico. Los niños (entre 2 y 6 años) no podían comer todo lo que hay, pero están diseñados para niños de hasta 12 años de acuerdo con el menú.Luego los postres. . . . El mejor menú de postres! La decisión nunca fue tan difícil: ¡había demasiadas buenas opciones! !Nos decidimos por los helados de 2 niños (¡que por supuesto pulieron!) El queso y el merengue. I loved the food in here, it cost us a fantastic £70 for for people to have two drinks and a meal each. It was amazing! Really enjoyed eating here and the food seemed very fresh. It was a saturday night when we went too and was still very attentive to us even though it was busy. Staff were great and knowledgeable on products.

Decepcionado. El pub tiene un hermoso jardín y el servicio fue rápido. Pero un filete estaba crudo cuando se le pidió que lo hiciera bien. La tarta no tenía pastelería y las verduras tenían que ser solicitadas. Tenía altas expectativas debido a las calificaciones y porque era una comida especial de cumpleaños que no siento que estuviera a la altura de ellas.

Comimos aquí a mediados de la semana cuando fue bastante. Así que no tuvimos que reservar una mesa. El pub tenía mucha edad y carácter. Ordenamos fuera del menú principal y de los especiales. Nuestra comida llegó caliente y en buen momento. Las raciones eran grandes, buena relación calidad-precio. Recomendado.

Comimos aquí un poco y tengo que decir que nunca hemos tenido un problema con ellos, siempre recibimos con gusto una gran variedad de bebidas y un menú para todos los gustos, normalmente termino con un bistec ya que la carne es de una calidad fantástica, la ensalada siempre es abundante y fresca y en porciones abundantes, es un gran lugar para cenar a la hora del almuerzo o la noche.

Visited with a family group for Sunday dinner and the pub has a good selection of typical pub fare on its menu. The place was fairly busy, but the wait wasn't too bad, whilst we had drinks from the bar. There is a kids playground outside that younger children should be able to expend energy on. Service was good and we had a selection of puds with an average total of £20 per head.

So today we fancied driving out to a pub where the kids could play and we could eat. This pub perfect to sit outside and the kids were happy but are cokes were completely flat hard to drink. And our roast dinners were very small with lack of gravy but kids meals looked ok. Nice surroundings shame about the food and drinks

Recommended by a friend, we tried The Salmon last weekend. What a find, lovely food, beautifully presented and friendly efficient staff. We will be back!!!!

Visitamos nuestro pub local esta noche, The Salmon Inn, visitando por un tiempo, pero esta noche la comida nos pareció excelente. Comí pasteles de pescado en salsa de langostinos y coco, el mejor de todos. 3 tortas de pescado más salsa increíble, papas fritas y ensalada para 12. 95. Valor excepcional y gran sabor. Así lo disfruté. Baileys tarta de queso también muy sabroso y agradable. Realmente lo más impresionado. He comido en muchos lugares pero esta noche daría fácilmente 9 de 10. Consciente puede depender de lo que ordene, pero mi esposo también es muy bueno de gammon. Isaac nuestro camarero muy atento, profesional, agradable y amable. Parecía trabajar muy duro y comprometido a garantizar una experiencia positiva. Encantador tener bebidas traídas a la mesa también. Con la esperanza de volver a visitar esta semana antes de que las tortas de pescado dejaran los especiales. Mantenga esta calidad como alimento querido y qué alegría ser local en Berkeley.

Very pleasant evening, great staff, great food and great for the kids. Food was presented well and used fresh vegetables. My son in law and myself had the prime rump steaks, two for £20, I normally have a fillet but this wasn't on the menu, so I went for the rump cooked med/rare, it was superb, cooked just as I had asked. My husband had cod and chips which again was very good and the children's food used fresh ingredients and were good sized portions. Would definately recommend this pub and will be back again soon!

Sometimes you put your fate in the hands of teenagers with iPhones and after one false start we arrived at the Salmon Inn for a lunch before a visit to Berkeley Castle.

Four of us and three kids stopped by for Sunday lunch, arrived at opening time so had no problem getting a table.

Been meaning to eat here for a while as only a couple of miles from home. Visited many times for a drink in the beer garden. As the the kids were down for the weekend good chance to try it I thought. As a Friday night better book. Arrived at 6.30 for 7 not busy. In my book not a good sign.

The food was fresh, well cooked and plentiful, and the service was outstanding. This is a real gem in an area where most of the eateries we have been to were below par. Keep up the good work!

Have just had an evening meal at The Salmon. The meal choice was good and the lamb dish I chose was perfectly cooked. However it was the service that really made the evening, our young servers were wonderful which made the evening a joy. Thank you Salmon.

We met here for an 'end of school year' summer get together. We ordered a buffet in advance, which needed to cater for various diets, vegan, vegetarian, gluten/soya/nut free. The food was delicious and probably the best buffet I have ever had. It was all freshly made and the sandwiches, homemade quiches, chicken bites, sausages in honey and mustard, divine salads and accompaniments were all fantastic. Approx. 30 of us in the garden, with food served inside. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back! Thanks to all those involved in the night.

Went to this lovely country pub and had a wonderful Sunday Dinner. The manager is wuite a character and we laughed and joked about portugal being knocked out the world cup. Staff are pleasant and polite. Top quality food and a great day out. If you stop by and i think the bar staff name is Isaac, he does some great card tricks

Went with some friends to celebrate my wife’s birthday Salmon very busy for a Monday night but service very good and the food of an acceptable standard good value for money.

We were all really impressed with the service our waiter gave us during a recent visit for lunch. He was discreet yet attentive.

Walked in with a large family group and they found us a table promptly. Food was lush! Something for us all (gluten free, veggie, kids). Steaks excellently cooked. Service fab. Really lovely afternoon, would highly recommend.

I visited The Salmon on Sunday for lunch with my step-father, husband and two young children. We were given a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The menu was varied and appetising making choosing very difficult! We ordered some starters and asked for my son’s food to arrive at the same time. His children’s fish and chips looked delicious! The fish was excellent quality, beautifully cooked and everything was served on an appropriately warm plate - not too hot like lots of places. Our food was great - very well cooked, well presented and extremely tasty. The children’s play area kept my little ones entertained in between courses and allowed them to run around in the fresh air and not bother other diners, while also allowing us to enjoy a leisurely three course lunch without worrying about the children getting bored.

Visited Friday afternoon last week and was absolutely thrilled by the service me and my husband received. I came in with my dog who was petted by a particularly friendly and welcoming member of staff (female young waitress with curly hair). The food was truly delicious will definitely be returning!!!

popped in for dinner tonight, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.

Good garden equipment for kids but food poor quality and would not return unless for drinks only. Burger cheap meat and fish with skin and scales on. Good range of beers though.

The pub/ restaurant was quiet when we arrived but got busier as the afternoon went on. The staff were friendly and polite. I had cod from the specials board which was cooked and presented very well and plenty of it!

The Salmon has become a regular for lunch with my mum. The service is warm and welcoming, the food is excellent and good value on both the regular and lunchtime specials menus. Long may it continue!

Went back to The Salmon as I was in the area. The Friendly staff greeted us, like we were locals who visited every week.

Have popped in for lunch on numerous occasions and have always been really pleased with food quality and style. Staff always excellent- nothing too much trouble. Why though do they not open the other gate so people don't need to negotiate the dreadful entrance off road - have nearly had a bump on several occasions!

This was a lovely find. We were looking for somewhere to eat before visiting Berkeley Castle and the Salmon Inn was fabulous. We had Sunday lunch which was really good but the deserts were amazing. The Eton mess is highly recommended. The Staff were attentive and the pub had a really nice welcoming feel.

Visitamos la semana en la tarde. Sentamos debido al calor. Espacios llenos de momias para beber mientras los niños jugaban. Ruido de niños y madres indiferencia como más interesados en sus bebidas. Bebimos rápidamente y a la izquierda.

Un salto en el salmón a la hora del té en un domingo con mi marido y dos niños en el camino a casa desde un día en Bristol para tomar un trago. Muy, muy tranquilo, casi no había nadie allí. Encantador pequeño pub y un gran jardín con juegos para los niños. Las dos chicas detrás del bar era muy agradable y amable. Los niños decidieron que tenían hambre, así que pedimos patatas fritas salchichas y granos de ellos. Llegó muy rápido, demasiado rápido para que fuera fresco. Las salchichas eran solo preparado y no tenía color en ellos, parecía gris y gomosos. Las patatas fritas eran aquellos cortados gruesos cosas baratas que están congelados reconstituido difícil bajar. No sé si las comidas son adultos mejor, pero el nivel de mi comida hijos me quitó que quieren probar. Recomiendo este pub si quería una bebida afuera en un día soleado, pero eso es todo.

Once again we visited The Salmon and this month there was a good turnout of 15 members of our club. There had been some rumblings about the modestly priced lunch choice. I think the point was that the selection does not change and each month we see the same dishes. Apparently the pub has been asked about this but is unwilling to change. For this reason only the members may decide to change the venue although not everyone is in agreement with that. I guess the jury is out on that one. We arrived at 12.30 as arranged and our table was ready. We had ordered our meals in advance and our choices all arrived accurately. As usual the young lady who served us at the bar and also brought out the meals was cheerful, humourous and helpful. Once again I forgot my loyalty card and she gave me a new one and agreed to transfer the stamps onto my old card next time I was in. As far as I could tell everyone in our party enjoyed their main courses and one or two had a dessert. I did overhear someone say that the biscuit base of their cheesecake was very hard. My wife and I had the breaded plaice with chips and petit pois which was fine. Personally I would vote for continuing to use The Salmon and hope that they hear our plea for some variety in the choices as we visit regularly.

This pub belongs to the small Quality Inns chain (currently 7 pubs mostly in Gloucestershire) and had recently transferred their manager at their George Inn Cambridge Glos. to run the Salmon. We eat at the George several times a year when visiting Slimbridge and got to know Luis so on a day out knowing he had gone to the Salmon decided to eat there. We were not disappointed. We had a good welcome from Luis and the food was excellent. There was a good range of well kept range real ales. From the outside the pub does not look that special but inside it is well looked after with an old country pub feel. Will be visiting again soon.. .

Having popped in to Berkeley Castle we decided to have lunch here on Easter Sunday. We arrived just after 2pm and were welcomed warmly. They had a table for 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids) which was great.The food was ordered and arrived within 15-20 minutes which was perfect for us. We all had something different and we all thought it was lovely and you could tell it was made fresh (not from a packet and microwaved).On the whole, the food, service and hospitality was lovely and we will definitely call in again if we are local to Berkeley.

We live very close to this pub but have avoided it over the last few years due to inconsistency of quality and service. Having tried it again tonight with a recent change of manager, we enjoyed a very pleasant evening with excellent food and service. We would highly recommend giving it a try. We had two very tender and tasty rump steaks at the special offer price of 2 for £20 followed by a mouth watering chocolate torte. And the beer was excellent, with a choice of real ales.

visited with friends and food was very good and reasonable prices. only exception was banoffe pie which was overpriced as only a small glass and not really pie. manager and staff were very attentive and definitely worth visiting if you are in area.

The usual monthly date was changed for February - the pub had no problem accommodating us. Our group had a range of dishes and I had the small portion fish and chips with mushy peas which was a very reasonable £7.50 although that was £2.50 Up on what it was recently. I used my Wickwar loyalty card to get a free pint but forgot to get a replacement. I must also mention the service. The young lady who usually looks after us on these occasions provided her usual cheery and attentive service at the table as well as running the bar. The ale sampled was in good condition if a little cool for my taste. Another good occasion in The Salmon.

Family outing for Valentine's meal! Sunday at 2pm but quiet. Lovely decor and cosy. Fantastic menu, really great selection. All our food was delicious.....3 courses each!! Pate and soup, fish 'n' chips and pasta, choc brownie and sticky toffee pud - everything was fresh and well cooked. Kids menu had good choice and portion sizes. Service was really good and reasonably priced. Certainly be having a return visit.

One of our local pubs and decided to give it another try. Very pleased that we did. It's changed hands and a new chef. Sea trout with samphire was excellent. Will definately go back again as it is now top of our list of local pubs/restaurants.

We visit The Salmon quite regularly, principally for lunch. The big plus of going there is the friendly and helpful service and encourages us to keep going back. The ales are very well kept and served. Now - the food. It certainly is excellent value for money and we have never had to complain about anything or return any of the dishes we have had. The dishes always look appealing and are served hot. Having said that the actual cooking could do with a little attention to detail and slight tweaking to achieve a higher rating. Taking the fish and chips as an example our fish was very heavily battered and overcooked to the extent that the fish had dried out noticeably. The chips were rather strange and we thought they may have been a few minutes short in the frying. Our dessert (which we shared) was sticky toffee pudding. I don't normally do desserts but it was full flavoured and served with a nice ice cream. As a bonus, the presentation was attractive and the portion size wasn't too large. So, we will certainly be going back to The Salmon for lunch and look forward to the customary cheerful welcome.

Stopped at the Mariners as we had ate there before on way to our hotel for the weekend only to find meals ad finished. One of the locals suggested The Salmon. We were very pleased with the lunch we had. Not too long to wait just as well we had been travelling a while and hungry!!! Found the plates nice and hot also meal very reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere and decor. Toilets nice and clean. Can recommend.

We wanted a local lunch and decided to give the Salmon another try as we understood that it had changed hands recently. Do beware the Web site which advertises a £5 lunch which they no longer do. That said we were happy to go with the main menu and the food was good enough though in our view not up expectations for the £12 to £15 main course price range. Service was very friendly but on the slow side and a bit careless. Just needs more attention to detail - for example the other family pubs listed on the sign in the car park includes the Pepper pot which long since became Hoggies.

We decided to visit after reading recent reviews and hearing that there is a new menu.Weekday lunchtime and it was very quiet, just us and a few people at the bar.The new menu looked good. We waited nearly a hour for the food with no explanation for the delay, even though we were the only people eating. When it arrived it bore no resemblance to the menu description. The "liver and mash with baby onions and pancetta" and some sort of sauce for nearly £14 was just liver, gravy and mash, no pancetta or baby onions, not even any veg. My meal was very greasy and the green beans were burnt and shrivelled up. How they had the nerve to serve such rubbish and expect no complaints about it appalled me. Do they think their customers are stupid!? I asked for replacement green beans which arrived covered in vegetable oil (?!). The cooking doesn't live up to the menu. Won't be returning or recommending to anyone.

Our party of five had very good meals served by friendly staff.the local beers were well kept.More a restaurant than a pub but used by locals (it would appear).Good value.

Two of us visited The Salmon for dinner last night and were very impressed with the new seasonal menu. There was a good variety of game along with lots of classics and specials, something for everyone! We ordered on venison steak and one stuffed chicken breast both of which were cooked to perfection and looked and tasted wonderful. We visit The Salmon frequently and have had many brilliant meals but last night was one of the best. The atmosphere was inviting and the staff were friendly and attentive. We will be back very soon and would encourage others to visit!

Nice service, nice staff, no rush to clear the table, good food, choice and value, well done all will be back again, only two minor comments, special board directly above a dinner table, people at the table had others looking through them to read the specials, cheesecake and bonofi both had very hard bases, thought the plate was going to break!

Best food we have had in ages, can even feel at ease bringing your kids here as they have a play area. Really lovely place with brilliant staff and Excellent food. will definitely be coming back. excellent service, I would recommend anyone to visit, you won't be disappointed!! Service is brilliant start to finish!

A lovely, friendly pub which I could roll around in easily. Clean, manoeuvrable disabled bathroom. Great garden with a playground for all ages. And the food was delicious!!

Visited early on a Tuesday evening as a family group of three. Steak menu was excellent value for money. Where else would you get a 16oz rump with chips for £11.95? It was really good meat too, well cooked, tasty and top quality. Service was attentive and friendly. All in all a very good experience which I can highly recommend.

Im so shocked and don't see how the previous comments can be justified ! We called in here after visiting Berkley castle and wanted a Sunday roast nearby and found it on trip advisor. I can honestly say it's one of the nicest roasts Iv ever had alongside my son which said the same , the other two people I was with had steak and also said it was one of the nicest steaks they had eaten out ! Everything home cooked , the manager was so accommodating and friendly and couldn't do enough for us ! I eat out a lot and Iv not enjoyed such a nice meal and friendly staff for a long time like that ! Well done and keep it up and I can't wait to return !

Well what can I say,this is quite a local pub to us so decided being the Summer Holidays we'd take a country walk & Lunch treat with the kids & visiting friends as it has a lovely looking play area.The pub seems overall well maintained and homely inside & out but as Pubs go that is the only good thing this pub has got going for it.The Pub was not busy it was mid week Lunch Time there was only one Member of Staff that seemed to be working the entire Bar/waiting & took every opportunity to tell customers that " she doesn't usually work here!" she was rude before we even ordered drinks let alone food & took a instant dislike to any small child even exceptionally well behaved ones that were within a 2 meter radius of her.There were 4 different Menus on the go - children's, Main Menu, Lite Bites, then a specials board with offers such as, 2 for £10 or all board meals for £5 then include a pudding for £3... add any side for £1 we ordered what seemed to be a straight forward choice yet some how it took over half a hour after ordering and paying to inform us that 3 out of 4 meals were not available... so re-ordered from the £5 menu .........1 hour later that eventually arrived wrong !! we were over charged & when questioned the mistake in meals the Barmaid abruptly argued about giving us the right order and the cost and pointed out we should never have been given those menus in the first place,yet she was the person who gave them to us ! she Rudely refunded the difference begrudgingly offering to bring out the right meals another 40 minuets goes by before they eventually arrive 2 people have already finished their meals by this point before the others arrive. The kids meals included ice cream at a set cost but were now getting on for nearly 2 hours & hesitated returning to the bar to order children's pudding as the Barmaid was so aggressive to the point she swore at a child when they asked were the toilets were so after plucking up the courage to order 4 children's puddings .......after another long wait she informed us there "WAS NO ICE CREAM" and that we would have to pay for a main menu desert "as that was all they had" we decided at this point to cut our losses & to not even bother arguing about a refund or another pudding.We were not the only people experiencing problems as there seemed to be family's and couples leaving left right and centre including other customers complaining at the Bar about wrong orders and bad service. It was a lovely sunny day and what could of been a great day spent with family & friends turned into a real disappointment and quite frankly ruined our day. All I can say is This could be a great pub if it took the time to train & employ good staff ....... in this case awfully rude & unprofessional staff resulted in terrible service so all in all a very remembered Pub but for all the wrong reasons. Will not be returning anytime soon and will be advising others to do the same.

This was our 3rd visit here to dine, the menu has changed and sadly I think so has the chef. The food has really gone down hill, the service was ok, however it wasn't busy. We ordered 2 meals, waited over 45 mins to arrived, one of which was wrong! Food bland, under flavour. The reason we came back was the good dining experience from the previous visits. Absolutely ridiculous, pointless and style over substance.The staff are friendly, and this is a good pub, and a good range of beers and wines, however the food really lets it down. Not sure we will be rushing back to be honest.

The Salmon InnThe family stopped here for Sunday lunch on the way home from my daughters competition in Gloucester (she won). We chose it because of its good reviews.The Salmon is a traditional local village pub in a nice setting, on entering you come to a small bar area and then opens up into various seating areas .We received a good welcome but were told a big table had just ordered and that they were busy and there might be a little delay. We ordered and sat down. Looking around it didn't look that busy all though there was a big group outside. The inside felt a little tired and in need of make over/ scrub up. After forty-five minutes it was getting stuffy inside so we sat outside.After an hour I went back in to find out if our food was on its way, whilst waiting I heard the waitress saying to the Manager/ owner that they had run out of a number of items on the menu. When l asked if our food was on the way they said it would be shortly.After waiting an hour and twenty minutes the food arrived, my meal was completely over cooked, the two roast dinners were ok my sons meal was good. We decided to stop at mcdonalds for a mc flurry (classy l know!) as we didn't fancy another long wait for our sweet. On the way out l noticed a sign saying Chef required, l hope they get one soon as they were obviously struggling.
