Broke up a 12mile hike with a roast dinner and a bottle of red. We sat in the bar area as we had the dogs with us which was very nice and perhaps a little more relaxed and quiet from the main restaurant area. The roast beef was excellent, one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had eating out! as was the dessert (Chocolate sticky toffee pudding). We will be back!

We came for Sunday lunch. There wasn't a veggie Sunday roast option so I ordered the vegetable lasagna which was over cooked, rubbery, and largely stodge. Everyone else's roast was delightful. So if you are vegetarian don't come here, if you eat meat you'll be fine

Our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. We had a lovely time at the saddle room and restaurants. I will rate their services 5/5. Check in was smooth. We were shown to our room. There is dedicated free parking, the rooms where bright, neat and clean, you get everything you can ever need in a hotel room up to shower caps :D. The shower water pressure was amazing. What more can i say? Food was amazing. Make sure to book for dinner, so you don't miss out on the sweet delicacies. The accommodation is perfect for a one or two night stay, if you are visiting the Yorkshire Dales, its close to sites you can easily dribe the to. There are trails and beautiful walks you can go on while lodging here as well. If i can go on i would. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Keep taking care of the place. Cheers

We stayed here one night and were amazed about the quality of this accommodation! From solid oak doors to coffee pods and bags to a bath and a super condo bed, everything was top notch. We also dined in the restaurant which in itself is an experience and the food was Devine. I had the risotto which was amazing and my husband had the burger which he really liked. The staff were all very friendly and breakfast was equally on point. This really was a bargain for such a fabulous place. Would come back in a flash!! Thank you all for making it such an enjoyable stay!

Booked this due to TA reviews as a Sunday lunch is probably my favourite meal choice , but I’m extremely fussy. I wasn’t disappointed. My daughter had lamb I had beef , both were exceptional. The roasted vegetables had to be the best I’ve eaten. We asked for mash and extra gravy and neither were on the bill . It was possibly one of the best roast dinners I’ve had . Staff were efficient and friendly , they even gave us a little meat for our dogs … superb

I hate to leave a poor review, but this wasn't a great meal. We went for Sunday lunch and it was poor. The yorkshire puddings were so oily they tasted like fried bread, and left a puddle of oil in the gravy. The lamb was very fatty, and the roasties were also very greasy. All of our party left their yorkshire pudding. The restaurant itself and the staff were lovely, but sadly the meal was a real disappointment.

This is venue offers informal dining with a menu that includes modern pub classics. The quality of the food was excellent on our visit, the interior is lovely and the house wine surprisingly good. Beer choices included a blond, an IPA and boring Black Sheep. The service was a little hit or miss though. An older lady was excellent but some of the younger staff needed better training, asking us what drinks we wanted to order before being given a wine list, for example. Also, seating us in a dark corner on a small table when much nicer tables were available, and not in use, did not impress. Despite these gripes I will try it again.

The chef certainly can cook a piece of dish. Have been intending to visit the Saddle Room for quite a few years, we often visit the Richmond/Leyburn area so thought we might try it out. We booked (recommended) and were very impressed with everything from start to finish. To cut a long story short, it's a beautiful place in beautiful surroundings. The food is excellent and the staff excellent also. The problem I have is it's now the only place I will consider for Sunday lunch when I'm in the area so may cause a bit of bother! Don't take my word for it, please try it yourself & I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

This restaurant had been recommended by family so we were eager to try it out, and wow is all I can say! The staff were really friendly, ensuring we were always catered for, as soon as our drinks were empty we were asked if we wanted another even though the restaurant was busy and fully booked. The wine was presented to us professionally each time. We visited on Sunday so it was the Sunday Lunch menu, and the food was on another level! There were several options, but you can get any 2 courses for £28 or 3 courses for £32, which we felt was a great deal considering the quality of the food was amazing. This restaurant also offers a vegan/vegetarian menu with plenty of choices meaning there is something for everyone! 2 of us opted for the two course and two opted for the three course. To start, we all had the ham scrumpet, (pulled ham in breadcrumbs, with a hollandaise like sauce and a runny poached egg on top). This was very tasty and the egg was cooked to perfection, not too runny and not too hard. For the mains, we ordered; the beef roast dinner, lamb roast dinner & the silver bream, prawn and salmon fishcake. The roast dinners were beautifully presented, the chef actually carves the meat in front of you at the table for you. The Yorkshire pudding which was probably the best Yorkshire pudding we’ve ever tasted, we think it had been cooked in beef dripping. The vegetables which consisted of greens, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and other roast veggies were placed on the tables in bowls so you could help yourself. The only minor thing that I could fault the dinner on was that you didn’t get much gravy, however I’m sure if we’d of asked for some more we would’ve been given some. For dessert we had the blackcurrant pavlova and the apple and cinnamon bread and butter pudding served with custard and ice cream. I would never normally opt for a bread and butter pudding but this dessert was so tasty! I loved that it had the apple and cinnamon flavouring to it as well. The pavlova was also very good, a light and refreshing to end the meal. Both of these desserts were also beautifully presented. Overall, everything about this place was fantastic, from the food to the service, it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely return here!

We decided to go here as a day out by sticking a pin in a map and finding somewhere close-by. There was plenty of parking but we found the entrance to the restaurant difficult to find and the signage was a bit confusing. It could do with some clearer landmarking outside. The result was a really nice meal in a fairly quiet restaurant in a location we'd never been to before. The restaurant was very nicely finished out, warm, light, and comfortable. Every part of the building is immaculate from the reception area through to the toilets. It was fairly quiet when we arrived for lunch but they later put a group of guys in the stall next to us, which increased the volume tremendously! We had the halloumi burger with chips (vegetarian menu), and fish and chips. The burger had a large chunk of halloumi in it, which was nice, although I prefer it a little more grilled than mine was. I thought the portion of chips was a little meagre, compared to the portion that came with the fish for the same price. And I would prefer my food to be served on a plate, not a chopping board. The fish and chips was generous: plenty of fish and plenty of chips. All were well cooked and the fish was properly boned. The tea and coffee were reasonably priced (£2.50 ea.), considering the main lunch courses were £18 each. Overall, it was a great experience (probably nicer for being off-season, I imagine it gets really busy when the tourists are out) in a lovely venue and actually probably about the right price.

We actually stayed in the B&B in one of the ground floor rooms, dined in and the next morning enjoyed our breakfast. The surroundings are of breathtaking beauty and there are plentiful walking areas nearby. The surrounding buildings and cottages are charming offering a variety of options. Our room was nice, the beds were comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean and overall enjoyable. The food was super tasty and the attention to quality was appreciated. The breakfast was the standard full British, missing local produce but still nice. Will certainly visit again later when the forbidden garden will open.

It helps that I am a horse racing fan, but I have got to say, that this place is truly stunning, absolutely gorgeous. The decor and layout of these former stables create a romantic and cosy feel. Unfortunately we weren't allocated one of the stall tables, but it did not spoil our enjoyment of this place. The bar area had a nice spacious feel about it, and I love the humour allotted to the signage on the loos. Our meal was of the highest standard and a credit to staff. Mention must also be made to the waiting on staff who were extremely efficient & attentive. Making our way back to the car park at night, highlighted the beautifully lit exterior of the place. Sadly we weren't staying in the accommodation , but fully intend to in the near future. A memorable visit.

Booked in for a Sunday lunch at the recommendation of our air BnB host, and wasn't disappointed. Walking up to the door there was a sign saying sorry no walkins as they were fully booked, which is a sign it must be good. It's a little bit more expensive than your usual Sunday lunch but worth the extra few pounds. Me both opted for the roast beef which is brought over and carved in front of you, if you like your beef pink this place is well up your street. The meat was great quality and tasted great. The roast dinner came with Yorkshire puddings, a generous bowl of roast potatoes, a bowl of seasonal greens, a bowl of carrots and parsnips, and also some cauliflower cheese. More food than the two of us could eat. We then opted for a dessert which was chocolate brandy snap cannoli, these were light and delicious and a really well made dessert. The staff were great as well, really friendly and attentive and we're eager to take the orders and assist. Next time I'm over this way will defo be calling in again.

We stayed the weekend, the room and the breakfast were 5 star. The room was fab and very clean, comfy bed, really nice bathroom. Dinner was good, but for me not as good as the rest of the stay. The table for two was a little cramped. Our order for white wine, came with a good, cold wine bucket, but that bucket was dumped on the table leaving little room to eat. The service was mostly brilliant, but a bit slow to remove used items from the, small, table. My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly medium rare but was not rested, it was also tough, it didn’t seem like there had been any attempt to cook off and crisp the fat, which was, therefore, inedible. There was a whole tomato, it was cooked, but not sliced, so no evaporation of the water in a tomato, I found it edible but boring, a good tomato, sliced and the juice reduced, would have been much nicer. The garlic/butter sauce was great. Breakfast was great, all hot (surprisingly unusual), beans in a pot, so no contamination of the nice, runny, egg yolk 😀. Sausages and black pudding were excellent. The bacon was the only let down, the fat slightly burnt rather than rendered, the meat dry as no rendered fat soaked in. To be fair, this seems to be a common issue with back bacon, that most people seem to prefer. I’d rather have good, thick cut, streaky. The toast was lovely, the butter better than most, very tasty.

My husband booked The Saddle Room for Valentines night as he knows it is one of my favourite places to eat. What a lovely surprise we both had when we arrived. The whole restaurant was decorated in a Valentines theme with beautiful red heart balloons and red bunting, even silk rose petals on all the tables. The food was delicious with the choice of special dishes themed special for the day. The staff were all very friendly and efficient, and I would like to give the kitchen staff a special mention as they work very hard behind the scenes producing high quality food for reasonable prices. What is particularly good is that you have the choice of pub grub prices or slightly higher prices for extra special dinners. Great venue, great food, great location!

My recent dining experience at this restaurant left me with conflicting impressions. The culinary offerings were undoubtedly delightful, leaving a positive taste lingering. However, my enjoyment was overshadowed by the below-average service, notably due to the male waiter’s disinterest and attitude. Adding to my concerns was the unfortunate choice of naming for the disabled toilets as “non runner.” This term, in my view, is not only derogatory but also discriminatory towards disabled individuals. It’s disheartening to encounter such lack of awareness, as I had hoped we had moved beyond using terms that can be perceived as offensive. I believe addressing this issue is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for all.

Having had to cancel our first visit to the Saddle Room, we visited with eager anticipation and were most certainly not disappointed. The restaurant may be found in the grounds of a country estate, adjacent to the Forbidden corner tourist attraction. Easy to access and...

Meh. Amazing setting- albeit very touristy as it’s next to a large tourist attraction (hence lots of parking). Starters were excellent. Sunday lunch was OK, Yorkshire puddings left out too long, vegetables slightly overcooked. Potatoes dry. Nothing major other than one of my guests got a rash from the bathroom soap. Not terrible but there are better (and cheaper) pubs in the area. No idea how the reviews are so high.

We had dinner here me and my wife, for a very special occasion and one of the waitresses Casey!!! Was so rude! We had only just come in sat down? 5 minutes before our table and after looking through the menu and me going to the toilet, she told us to hurry up and order!!! Despicable!! She said that we’d been here for 15 minutes and haven’t ordered food yet in a disgraceful manner. Horrible woman… Would not recommend going here while she is. It’s not that hard to be nice. Food was decent, but pricey.

Lunch 03.08.23. The food was really delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. We had oysters, scotch egg, and steaks. Unfortunately the service let the whole experience down. Firstly the welcome was cold and not particularly welcoming. The young lady didn’t seem like she wanted to be there and did not give off a friendly vibe. Asked two staff what the fish of the day was & neither of them knew. They found out and we ordered it later and were told it was another fish altogether. Feedback - waiting staff could be briefed on these dishes at start of shift & then they write it down in case they forget. We ordered a bottle of fizz with the bar manager. He wasn’t knowledgeable about his menu which was a bit surprising considering he said he was the bar manager. When the barman brought the bottle, one of glasses was dirty so we politely asked for a clean one. The barman said nothing at all, not least an apology, just walked off (possibly stropped off) and then reappeared a bit later with a clean glass. He did not say another word, finished opening the bottle and plonked it into the ice bucket without pouring it. It did seem a bit passive aggressive. There was no napkin to hold the bottle and prevent it dripping everywhere. These two members of staff had no interest in delivering any kind of decent service. We wouldn’t recommend or return because of the poor customer service which is a real shame as the food was of a great standard.

Another fantastic stay at the Saddle Room. Lunchtime sandwiches were great. Dinner was fantastic. Breakfast set us up for the day. All staff are great. Ian the barman isn't afraid of hardwork! Room was lovely. The estate is magnificent. Very dog-friendly. We'll be back soon!

It's a lovely quiet place but the food is fantastic and the staff were very accommodating considering we arrived just before the lunch service closed! (Thanks for still serving us) Their dairy & gluten free menu is actually pretty extensive which was great for us too!

Smashing little community owned boozer in Gunnerside in the most wonderful Swaledale. Popped in mid walk for a constitutional and enjoyed a couple of perfectly kept lagers. Highly recommended

A very quiet pub when we went in, real ales were great and kept well. I did find out this pub is up for sale so maybe that is why the atmosphere was a bit lacklustre.

Excellent. Very friendly staff behind the bar (2 young ladies). Good beer and excellent food. Need I say more?! Definitely a “must” for anybody visiting Wensleydale.

Visited for the 1st time in over 20 years ( due to raising family) and being from Norfolk, wasn't disappointed so pleased for these people who took over when it was either dale farm or dairy crest who decided to close the site down !!! Wonderful experience and lovely staff, great day out and got my favourite supply of Wensleydale and cranberry 😁
