We were a party of 6 plus 2 little ones. We all enjoyed the carvery which was very tasty. Good selection of veg and extras. The cauliflower cheese was the best I've tasted. The dessert was lovely too. We all had the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream....delicious. Lovely attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome. We'll definitely return

Recently taken over by new owners, the Ruishton Inn, situated in the small village of Ruishton, less than a mile from J25 M5, and walkable with your dog from Creech-st-Michael. The local populace has been abuzz with anticipation, even excitement in some quarters of the village, mainly because of the promise of fine dining advertised on the new website. I can confirm that you will not be disappointed with the selection of fair on offer, the service and food alike, were first rate, with warm comfortable surroundings. I was impressed with the flexibility of the menu as regarding mixing and matching, so helpful. Special mention has to go to the blackberry & apple crumble, I tried to extract the recipe for the crumble from the waiting staff, only to be told that it was a family secret passed down from the landlords great grandmother who invented it in Cardiff in 1887, I didn't press the point. I would thoroughly recommend the Ruishton for fine dining.

We noticed on arrival the "for let" notice outside and assume that the current tenants are planning to finish soon. Inside the facilities were clean although very dated. However the service we received was more than adequate: the meals came quite quickly and the food was hot and although quite basic, was better than one often gets in a chain pub. There were very few people in - it is establishments like this that need customer support to survive.

When we arrived at the delapidated establishment we gave it the benefit of the doubt and went in. Upon arrival we were greeted in the traditional Ruisden way of ignoring you totally. We then sat down in a room that resembled a working man’s club you would only find in a 1970s mining town. Once we had established ourselves on the bench seats that were harder than wolverines claws, we ordered 3 pints of san Miguel which came to £18. Which considering we weren’t paying for any other bar staff, upkeep of decor, entertainment or any sign of additional costs i thought was a bit steep. Having settled in and enjoyed two more rounds we noticed his only other customer had left and so we got up to order an he told us that the bar was closed and that f course it was our fault because in Ruishton the normal way to call last orders is to stay behind the bar dead still and stare vaguely into the distance till someone comes and orders a pint and you get the pleasure of telling them to metaphorically “ eff off”. Would recommend to no one

We stayed two nights at the Premier Inn a couple of minutes walk from the hotel was the Ruishton Inn. Local country pub and as the hotel didn’t have a bar or restaurant we went there rather than the Miller & Carter next door. Support local was the idea. Sadly the pub food was shocking. We were sat next to the kitchen and constantly head beep beep beep. The lady running the kitchen was cooking everything in the microwave which led to us receiving 2 adult and two kids meals which weren’t edible. We paid and left but my wife couldn’t leave without passing comment which they didn’t seem to care about. The prices were high for what was on offer and quality wasn’t worth half the price. If you stay at the Premier inn use the Miller & Carter next door

We visited here as opposed to a chain because we wanted to support a local business, but honestly we are disappointed that we wasted our money and time . On arrival the welcome was very average. Decor dated but this wasn't an issue really. We ordered our meals with the young waiter who looked scared to death to be honest . While waiting for our food we heard lots of microwaves pinging , so we are thinking there was a lot of warming up going on. Anyway my steak was tiny and over cooked for medium to well done it was rock hard , I also had 4 tiny pieces of scampi and 6 chips !!! The plate had half a grilled tomato , a few mushrooms and a spoonful of peas. My other half was served a burnt bland lasagne burnt garlic bread and 7 chips. No peas etc. I asked for English mustard, my thumb was bigger than the serving tbh. When my partner complained about the food the waiter just shrugged his shoulders and said sorry about that.. We decided we were not going to waste any more of our time here and chose to pay and leave . On the way home to our overnight stay we had to stop off and buy something else to eat as we were still hungry . We want to point out it wasn't just us. The couple on the next table weren't happy with the portion size but were to polite to say to the waiter. We saw other meals coming out just before we left and they were awful too..I can't understand how they think this is acceptable to serve and charge people as the meals weren't exactly cheap. So I would like to warn you all to stay away!!

We had planned to eat at the Toby Jug next to the Premier Inn but were turned away as we hadn’t booked! So we just happened to see a sign on a tree advertising The Ruishton Inn (5 min walk from the Premier Inn). So off we headed. Initial impressions were that it looked s little run down but after a warm welcome & great service from the outset we eagerly awaited our food order. There is an extensive menu from a range of steaks to more traditional “pub” dishes but definitely something to suit all tastes. The food was utterly delicious - home cooked, plentiful & very reasonably priced. The Chilean merlot also went down a treat. We were so pleased we ate there as opposed to the Toby Jug, we returned the next evening. My friend, who enjoyed the lamb shank so much ordered it again the second evening. Also worth a mention, the teenage waitress who served us was very friendly & happy to engage with us & is a credit to the pub. So, if you are hoping for a modern, contemporary pub serving cocktails and a charcuterie board then the Ruishton Inn is probably not for you but if you don’t mind a very traditional, old style pub with a pie & chips type offering then you will love it here.

The good thing about this pub was the young waitress. She was pleasant and efficient but the place is grim! It’s like a trip into the 80’s with a dog bed in the corner of a room and a pile of newspapers piled on a mobility scooter on view as you walk to the restaurant. The food was ok , nothing special but I found the whole place so unpleasant and unfriendly I couldn’t wait to leave!!

We were staying at the Premier Inn and saw a sign outside the hotel advertising this pub when we drove in. Rather than go the the Toby Carvery next door we thought we would give a go as it's only a 5 minute walk along the road to the Ruishton village and the pub. Outside it's an unusual looking pub but inside it's fairly traditional and decorated with hundreds of elephants (the landlord informed me there were over 250). On entering we initially went into the bar area instead of the eating area where tables are set out but this was easily rectified and we changed rooms. After sitting down we found that all of the other 3 tables taken were also guests at the Premier Inn. The beer was well kept and there was a good choice of cask ales. I had a couple of pints and enjoyed both. The wine choice as a bit limited but a Pinot Grigio was apparently OK. My wife ordered scampi and it was fairly average although the chips were good, I ordered sirloin steak and it was surprisingly good - a nice piece of meat cooked exactly and I asked. We thought the prices were very good value and we paid less than elsewhere. I've read previous reviews complaining about unfriendly owners and preference for locals but we found the complete opposite, the landlord & his wife were friendly and we had no problems at all with service (and that was on a Saturday night). The other diners from the Premier Inn seemed to have the same experience.

A local pub. For local people. I have absolutely no problem with this, but the general attitude, especially that of what I assumed to be the landlord was "Unless you and at least 3 generations of your family live within a mile of this establishment, I'm not going to even bother pretending that you're welcome"Decor is reminiscent of an elderly spinster's sitting room. As for the food, I don't pretend for one moment to be Egon Ronay, but a slice of clearly mouldy toast with a grated cheese and burnt mushroom topping, and 6 Iceland Value Brand Chicken Nuggets on top of some stale cucumber and lettuce isn't worth £13 In my book. Nor anyone else's, I imagine.I've given it a 2, instead of 1 rating on account of the beer being drinkable and the exits being clearly marked.

This pub seems to be very popular on a Friday evening. The lounge bar is a better bet than the public bar as regards sitting down to eat. Main courses are £9+ (as at Nov 2015). Very friendly staff and surprisingly quick service. Families with children are welcome - and there are some quirky features to interest children while they're waiting (such as the collection of elephant statues) - but there doesn't seem to be a children's menu and I wasn't nosey enough to hang around to check up on how the children on the next table were catered for in terms of portion sizes (I left before they were served).Definitely more character than a chain restaurant, and on reflection I think the slightly high prices are worth paying as it means you're supporting a small local business rather than lining the pockets of anonymous directors and shareholders.

The only "non driving option" from the Premier Inn while the Blackbrook Tavern is closed, but they are missing a chance to make a name for themselves. There's a fairly unexciting menu with many options crossed off, and the food isn't cheap. With a captive audience on its doorstep you might think they would embrace all day opening, but when we were there the pub didn't open until midday and then closed between 3 and 6pm. Some of the staff were friendlier than others!

Situated up the lane from the Premier Inn, too far to walk for older people especially in the dark as there are no pavements. We ate hear on a Friday evening and five or six items on the menu were crossed out leaving a very limited choice. The food was plentiful but uninspiring, especially the veg which had been overcooked. Also the staff seemed disinterested and their dress code let the place badly down.Would rather make the trip into Taunton and eat in Wetherspoons!

We held mum's wake here yesterday as mum had lived in the village since 1970. It was a private event, a cold buffet for 30 guests. The food was excellent, I could have asked for nothing more. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Thank-you for making the day finish on a high note.

Me and my father were staying in the Premier Inn up the road and we had had a quick beer in the pub next to the Hotel but it wasn't really ideal for us so we looked at local pups and The Ruishton was just a quick walk up the road. So at about 7pm we walked up the road (Warning, sparse pavement, wear bright stuff) to the Ruishton and found it on the corner, looks like a proper local. Had everything we wanted, Quiz games machine, sensibly priced and wide range of beers, fast friendly service. It was fairly quiet but the jukebox was going and the atmosphere was pleasant. First pints went down well so I ordered a mixed grill for around £14 pound I think, the waitress asked if I'd like it on a tab so I said yes along with 2 more beers.Food arrived very quickly, must have been about two games of spot the difference so under ten minutes. Mixed grill was FANTASTIC, meats were juicy and cooked well in good portions, the chips were thick and crispy I really couldn't have had a better meal, my Father remarked he wished he'd done the same once he'd seen how good the meal was.Service was excellent and courteous, would definitely drop in here again. 5/5

We stayed nearby and wanted something to eat quickly as it was about 8.15pm when we arrived, quite a good choice on the menu at reasonable prices, typical pub grub. The service was very slow but they had been quite busy by the amount of people at tables but most had finished eating so we thought we would be served quickly, unfortunately this was not the case. When the food did appear it looked and tasted very good. All five of us had mains and desserts and they were all great. So if you have plenty of time this is a great little pub to pop in and enjoy well cooked tasty food.

Went here while staying in the premier inn, having already been twice to the adjacent carvery. A short walk down the road without a path most of way is this pub. Quite a large interior with 2 sides one restaurant the other the pub side. Having only my credit card asked if I could open a tab, no problem but asked to keep my card, also a small charge for using this. Food menu was average if not a little dated, and little pricey if I'm honest. Food and beer were both o.k. But nothing to write home about. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Compared to the carvery I'd had for the previous 2 nights I would deffinatly recommend. Would I go out of my way to go there though, sorry to say no, not really.

When I saw the hand written sign outside the Premier Inn just up the road I gave the landlord credit for initiative. Do not be fooled. Good food - no. Good beer - no. Pleasant surroundings - if you like being stuck in a 1970s time warp. My wife had the fish pie, sorry mashed potato with 1 half prawn and added peas and sweet corn. I had liver and onions in a Yorkshire 'leather' pudding. The IPA lived up to its title - incredibly poor ale and the stout reminded me of 'liquafruita '- for those who are old enough to remember it. They say that time is a great healer, but nearly 2 months after my visit the memory is still with me.

We only went here the once despite it being fairly close. We ordered sunday lunch and beer. The food at best was mediocre with the meat being that thin pre sliced stuff. The staff were not at all friendly despite me saying that we had just moved to the area. No warm welcome or friendly banter here. To cap it all after paying the bill and whilst walking home i realised that we had been overcharged. I didnt go back and complain but i wont be going back. The staff are fools as i would have potentially spent a lot of money there over the years.

No chicken breast available. Waiter didn’t inform us until after spending time getting order choices from the children, so had to rush a second choice and chicken is sort of one of the reasons you go to harvester. Poor service at table, lack of serviettes, customer service. Because of signal and poor Wi-Fi unable to collect stamp on harvester app under rewards. Then made to feel awkward with tip system on card machine, need to do the basics well and go that extra step to get tips, All a bit disappointing for the money. Food and drink we had was hot and tasty though.
