The Royal Saracens Head in South Bucks

This trip to the Royal Saracens was the first visit since management had changed. I have to confess I was blown away by the level of service and quality of food. The atmosphere was great and so our long lunch very easily moved on to us staying at the Royal Saracens in the bar area, watching sport and having cocktails. A perfect Saturday!

Much improved food , with well cooked fish and seafood (even scallops), as well as a decent roast. Service was really good (particularly Solly), with an attentive but not intrusive team.

Excellent Sunday lunch & fish and Chips. Puddings were great as well, delicious apple crumble. Service was brilliant, we had Kayla as our server 😊 Thank you

We’ve just returned from lunch at the Royal Saracens Head in Beaconsfield. As a child I attended Oakdene,a girls public boarding school in Old Town Beaconsfield. I was always envious of friends who were taken to the Saracens Head by their parents on school outings, however I was never fortunate enough to be taken there myself. Finally after 60 odd years of living overseas, my husband and I found ourselves today in the vicinity of Beaconsfield on one of our holidays back to the UK so I persuaded him to book us a table for lunch. It was a really dreary dull rainy day today, but the moment we arrived at the Saracens Head, AJ the Manager made us feel very welcome. He made sure the open fire was lit and crackling away whilst we sat on exquisitely comfortable sofas beside the fire where we had a pre lunch drink and perused the lunch menus. The Royal Saracens has 2 menus, one is an extensive a la carte, the other is a choice of 2 courses (approx £19) or 3 courses (approx £22) but even with a “set menu” there are a delicious variety of dishes to choose from. After our pre lunch drink by the fire, we moved into the dining room, this was a very pretty area where the tables were laid with sparkling glasses and shining cutlery and I loved the lighting, it was soft but not dark, adding to a wonderful cosy ambiance. We were served by a lovely waitperson, Kayla, she was extremely professional which added to our total enjoyment of our meal. The food was delicious and we also had a very pleasant bottle of white wine. I am so glad I was finally able to share such a memorable meal with my husband in a place that holds fond memories for me. If you are ever in Buckinghamshire and find yourself in Beaconsfield I would recommend you try to have a meal at the Royal Saracens Head.

I visited this place last night. To sum it up, I would say slow service and poor quality food. I’m not how they rate so highly. We arrived with good expectations and were to told arrive promptly. We would have our table for no longer than 2 hours. We had a nice table location and ordered drinks and some starters and mains. The starters took an hour to turn up. These were the grilled peppers and olive and bread platter. The peppers were undercooked which was a shame. Crunchy which should not be the case. Being Spanish and having eaten these all my life, I can tell you these were not ideal. They had the potential to taste great, but they needed another 5-10 minutes on the grill. Then we waited. Over an hour more for the mains to turn up. In fact it took 1 hour and 50 minutes for our mains to arrive from the time we arrived. During that period we ordered more wine and were given the wrong bottle but it then took 15 minutes to fix the issue while our glasses were left dry. When we did receive the mains, I was left disappointed with my “fillet”. It was dry, chewy and certainly not a fillet. If it was, it must have been frozen several times over or was the cheapest possible cut. It was also incredibly thin. I complained and the manager kindly gave us a £20 discount so I can’t fault the service staff. But the other steaks we received were average at best and very thin. I’d certainly never have a steak again here. Then we had a friend who ate sausages and mash. The mash was fine but a small quantity but the sausages were overcooked and not particularly nice. Overall we left disappointed. Mainly for the cost paid for the poor quality food. The service staff were very polite and I appreciate the manager knocking £20 off our bill but considering that fillet steak was another £12, it’s pretty shocking. Overall I wouldn’t return.

Had an amazing valentines day here! The food was delicious! We had Soli as our server and he was so lovely and very attentive. We had a good laugh with him. Thank you all :) x

Had valentines lunch here. Kayla was brilliant as our server, very attentive and kind. I had the lamb which was cooked as I like and the accompaniments tasted fantastic. Only gave it four because the prawns were not what I *thought* they would be (but I still ate it all) my husband and son enjoyed their meals also

I went along with a friend - unplanned. The restaurant seating was booked out but we had the meal in the pleasant bar seating area. Very good roast lunch, meat excellent and potatoes. The plate could have been warmer. When there was a delay over one dessert, they let us have it free. Pleasant staff and fast service. The parking outside the pub is in two parallel rows - I was in the inner row and it was almost impossible to get out, because of the size of the vehicle behind. There was barely room to manoeuvre and it took some time.

Six of us were in the RSH for Sunday lunch/birthday family gathering. What a treat! Food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Great menu and all beautifully cooked. Will return (and we aren’t local!)

Been here a number of times, but this last visit was a little disappointing as the Sunday roast was not as tasty as usual (very bland) and not hot enough. We also noticed that the cleaning could be better - tables sticky and cobwebs around doors, windows and ceilings!

Egg Royale and Chorizo, avocado, eggs on sourdough. Perfect brunch to satisfy a Sunday morning appetite. Delightfully served by Maya.

Party of eight of us for my daughter’s birthday meal. Waited 20 minutes after being seated and then I had to get the attention of a staff member to take our food and drink order. Lots of staff milling around tidying tables but no acknowledgement of customers ( it wasn’t very busy lots of empty tables ) Drinks took ages to arrive and we only got them after I once again got the attention of a staff member. Food was bought out quite quickly although a big delay between first meal arriving and my father in laws meal didn’t arrive so I had to chase for that one. My daughter ordered a side salad but that never materialised and I really couldn’t be bothered to chase it as daughter had finished eating her meal anyway. No sauces were offered and again I had to get the attention of a waitress and ask for horseradish. No one came to check if everything was ok and when we finished our meals no one came to clear away or offer a dessert menu. We went to our car and bought in daughters birthday cake and had that for dessert and no one seemed to even notice. I asked for the bill and it included a service charge which I requested was removed as the service was so appalling. Manageress was very apologetic but it wasn’t really her fault as she was overseeing a large party in the back room. The restaurant itself was not busy. There were lots of waiting staff milling around doing nothing significant and definitely not observing the needs of customers in the restaurant. Had the restaurant and staff been very busy and staff stretched it would have been forgivable to have to wait but it really wasn’t and it was a very disappointing experience. Despite everything the roast dinners were very good ( although a couple of them could’ve been hotter )and they had run out of cauliflower cheese, the other meals were average. We certainly won’t be returning anytime soon and will not be recommending to anyone else.

Disappointed. Turned up Saturday 20th January for breakfast with my disabled parents and it was shut. I checked google, their website and it clearly states open 9am Saturday. So disappointing - you need to clearly state on website if you’re deciding to change hours whether it’s January or not.

Came for lunch before giving notice of marriage at Beaconsfield registry office on Friday. We were served by Kayla, who was so nice and polite, 10/10 customer service from her. The food was lovely, we both had a burger and then we tried the trio of cheesecakes and the trio of warm desserts too. No complaints there, food top notch as usual.

We were a group of 11 people. We waited more than 40 minutes to place our food order - and that only happened because I went and told the waiter we wanted to order. The food was excellent, we all enjoyed it. We sat for more than four hours - NOT ONCE did anyone from the service personnel come to our table and ask if we were ok or whether we would like further drinks. Again the waiter was fetched and informed that we wished to order dessert and coffees. The coffees took more than 30 minutes to arrive. On both occasions, I did not get the impression that the restaurant was full. The young man who served us was pleasant and friendly - he just lacked basic training. The fact that he gave me a QR code when paying and said he'd welcome feedback made it clear that he was completely unaware of how truly poor the service had been. I worked for almost 10 years in hospitality when I was younger - including in management positions. The fact of the matter is that these young people didn't even have the most basic of training IMHO. No overview, no pro-active service, no interim checking on guests' needs or checking that everything is in order with the food. And I don't think I have ever sat for four hours in any establishment without an enquiry as to whether more drinks or food might be welcome ! It didn't spoil our enjoyment of the great food and the ambience - we were a group of old school friends re-uniting after many years, so that our attention was taken elsewhere. I just find it a shame that the staff didn't do justice to the establishment - and that, in my opinion, is a failure of the management to provide even the most basic training - and I suspect the final bill could have been considerably more!

The service was very very slow. It was not busy however took about 45mins - 1 hour for our food to arrive after ordering. Also after ordering desert which eventually came the drinks we ordered did not show up and took about 40mins to say they can’t do a decaf espresso martini. The food was average and the decor the same.

On arrival we had a warming welcome. We had a bar table and ordered food, the lad that served us was a bit arrogant. All he was interested in was telling other staff that last orders was at 9:30pm and we’d be out the door by 10pm. Whilst we was eating, which the food was fantastic. I was the barman make some cocktails, I was horrified to watch him squeeze lemons into glasses by using his hands. Then he proceeded to wipe his hands on his shirt and carried on making the drinks. It was a bit off putting to witness this, knowing full well the training etc M and B put their staff through

I came here on Sunday and had amazing food excellently recommended by our attentive waiter Soli. He provided us with not only the necessities of a good service but went that extra mile to make our experience here one to remember.

The service was poor with starter order incorrect despite pre-ordering. The drinks were slow and the bill was incorrect at the end of the meal.

As a regular diner I was very disappointed with our seating. I was treating my 92 year old mother and we were put in the upper part of the restaurant which was cold and then you offer some blow heaters in that area. There was no atmosphere what’s so ever as the next diners arrived 45 mins later so we were basically echoing our voices . We asked to move and was declined as the tables were linked to the orders. The meal Scallops although cooked nicely were a bit fishy! Traditional turkey. The pig in blanket tasted bland as if. Broiled The sausage meat wrapped in bacon was small with no real flavour. The turkey was tough and chewy The cabbage with peas was undercooked. Brussels spouts we’re so undercooked. Which suggested frozen You may question if we complained we did however we the reality was it’s a very busy time and we may of received a similar meal experience. We were very disappointed which is such a shame on a festive occasion. The manager although very pleasant clearly had his hands tied in the day! We respect the whole try’s to make an effort but on this occasion it did meet our usual culinary experience.

2nd time eaten there last couple of months and it's always been really good......food is delicious and the service is really good. Manager remembered me despite mabe 6 weeks since last going.....even remembered what I ate first time. You will enjoy it there for sure and won't burn a massive hole in your wallet!

Positives: Good food on the whole, with the exception of the sprouts, which were absolutely rock solid. The venue itself is a charming place with character. Bar staff were fantastic. Negatives: Missed one person for the first course. We had to request another plate of food. Service was so rushed, we had to ask for a break in-between courses. It almost felt like we were being pushed out the door as quick as possible. With a few exceptions the waiting staff seemed miserable, but I must stress a few were lovely and attentive. Parsnips missing from my main meal (sadly I love them). Definitely not worth £95 per head.

Booked for brunch with Santa for 2 grandchildren and 4 adults, only to find out, after we had eaten a disappointing brunch, that Santa had left!! Two meals arrived late and most of our food was cold. When we asked to substitute an item on the dish for something different the waitress informed us that she didn’t think the kitchen would be able to cope with that. We asked for a hash brown in place of mushrooms, is that such a big deal!!!!

Stopped in with my wife for Sunday lunch, food was good, confident waitresses and friendly bartenders, however we heard the song "Smooth operator" play more then 4 times throughout our lunch. Needless to say, it got very old and tedious.

We arrived for extra festival menu at 3:30pm. There was eleven in our party. At this time, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. There was probably another two tables with smaller parties. It took around 20 minutes for waiting staff to take orders for our welcome drink and another 15 minutes to deliver them. We noticed that the waiting staff were doubling up as bar & restaurant staff. Considering I received a message the day of our booking that we only had the table for 2 hours, this wasn't going well. If I knew we only had the table for 2 hours, then I wouldn't have booked. Throughout service, it took another 30 minutes for waiting staff to return and take our food orders. This only happened when I approached waiting staff and asked when they were going to take our order. After which service was sporadic at best. Food wasn't delivered to all in party at once. Some would get starters, then others would get there's later. This was how our service went for the rest of the night. After desert, the final cocktail took so long to be served that we eventually gave up and checked out. Bill totalled £1,037. We checked out at 8:30pm. 5 hours to serve us! Absolutely ridiculous! Food was good though. Waiting staff did state that they were shortly staffed. By the time we were leaving, the restaurant was full. I'm glad I didn't come in when you were busy. I have no complaints about the waiting staff. They certainly looked under a lot of pressure. But as once a year company Christmas Dinner for my staff then I can only say I will never book there again.

Sorry to say the fish was not cooked. The batter was soggy in the middle. Another dinner of liver was overcooked. Time for new management in this nice old pub. Aviod while current management are in place.

The service was appalling. We preordered to save time. We were not served two starters, one main meal was incorrect, our colleague had to wait for her food while we ate. The kitchen took over half an hour to serve us mini desserts and they could not make the chai latte that is offered on the menu. We have scrapped Royal Saracens off our list for lunch next time. We will be going elsewhere, where the kitchen is more organised.

Compared to other pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, the food quatlity was at best average, while the food and drinks were overpriced for the tiny portion sizes served - a sliver of meat drenched in gravy and covered in boiled veg and a yorkshire pud. A number of starter dishes were not available, even though we were booked relatively early for 12h30. Restaurant was understaffed en service was generally slow - although staff was always friendly and courteous. Overall, we were left with feeling we have been served the results of a massive cost cutting exercise.

Really bad service. Booked in advance to have diner with my wife and kids l. Once we arrived we were sat at our table and had to wait 20 minutes tog get some one to get our drinks order. After getting our drinks we were ready to order we were told half the menu was unavailable but as we had our kids we decided to order something as it was late and the kids needed feeding - once we ordered our food the waitress came back and told us what me and my wife ordered was not available as well. So we had decided to leave as there was nothing really left to order from the menu. I wish they could have told us before we sat down that there was issues with the menu when we arrived untill 40/50 minutes after we sat down. Wasn’t happy at all

Totally worth a visit and once tried you will return time upon time! Went the first time a few weeks ago and made a return trip to check this was a real hidden gem and not simply a spectacular first impression that fails to impress on closer attention....I was not disappointed; this place has wonderful food, and the staff both times have been lovely, welcoming, proffesional and simply make you feel at ease and in good hands. Service was brilliant, manager AJ is a welcoming and charming host, our server Issy was able to assist with allergies as I have anaphylaxis to certain things. Both times enjoyed 3 amazing courses and will be returning soon to work my way through the menu as quite frankly food this good deserves to be well and truly enjoyed and shared!

We had a fantastic time for a 50th birthday party. We hired the private room and our waitress Phoebe was brilliant, nothing was ever too much. She was very kind and friendly. Even offered to help us take down the decorations at the end of the night after her shift finished!

Not many Vegetarian or Vegan options but ok otherwise. Mostly buzzing on Saturday evenings for drinks… music does degenerate into house and techno quite quickly though!!

Terrible experience and service! I ordered food which came out covered in meat under a sauce, despite the fact I made it very clear I am a vegetarian. The waitress made a note on the order, as this usually contains pancetta; however, the kitchen clearly did not bother to read. I was very upset eating this, as this has NEVER happened to me before in all my 26 years of being vegetarian. There are serious allergies to take into consideration when preparing food, so it is highly concerning this restaurant does not bother to accommodate/ check their orders. To top this off, the restaurant promised me a voucher via email to say sorry…which they did not bother to send. This service completely ruined my evening.

I have a different experience here every time I go. Depending when I go! During the day - relaxing and chilled Evenings during the week are pretty much the same Weekends - wow, not sure if this is every weekend but it was like I was in a club with teenagers. Anyway, all in all it’s ok. The main thing is customer service….not had it here for ages! It’s all about the staff you employe!

We go here fairly frequently for dinner or lunch. Recently a new manager, AJ was appointed and the vibe here has noticeably improved. My wife used to enjoy their crispy duck salad but it had been discontinued. She mentioned this to AJ who promised to reinstate it and lo and behold, yesterday there it was again! Oh, and the sea bass fillets are delicious.

Had a lovely birthday meal with the whole family. The service was the best part of the experience, they were very accommodating. Anson was a great server (his wine knowledge was impressive)!

Met a friend not seen for a long while for a catch up, we were seated very quickly and had one waitress all for the evening it was a Saturday night. We opted for Fish and chips the food was lovely and hot the waitress was knowledgeable about the drinks and food , she apologised for taking long time clear but it was ok she was looking after a large table next to ours. Lovely atmosphere a bit pricey but good for a celebration or treat.
