Lovely pub, we watched the game and it had multiple places to watch (garden, upstairs , two other spaces) so easy to find space. The food was very good especially for a pub, the fish and chips I heard from my friends was good, I have intolerances and it was easy to order and they were helpful. I would like to see a small addition of gf burger buns or maybe bread but a small issue. The bar staff were helpful and it was quick to order , prices reasonable

Not keen on the meat on show but apart from that is all good

Really nice pub we came for the 8 HR slow cooked lamb shoulder shepherds pie and it didn't disappoint. Starters were really good too.

So nice to be back at The Royal Oak for the comedy night. I (mis)spent a lot of my youth there 40 years ago. Many happy memories and it's the first time I've been back for many years. Much brighter now and a lovely atmosphere. Decent range of beers and friendly staff. Pay them a visit.

A very lovely and cosy place to enjoy hood good with family and friends

They've redeemed themselves over the last couple of weeks, as they now have a regular(every 2 weeks) Open Mic on Thursday night. Next one 11 April...Still costs £11 for a double G&T, when you can get 75cl at Sainsburys for £14, and a double at The Hlasshouse for £8!

Great local pub with great food

Just bought a double chessburger, one guy touched everything with hand, before that hi changed bin bag touching dirty bin. I threw the burger in the trash, dirty people working there

I organised a party here and was very disappointed with what I got for my money. I arranged everything over email for 15 adults and 10 kids. I pre paid around £250 for a sandwich buffet, sausage rolls and crisps. When the food arrived, the sandwiches and pitta were stale, the sandwiches had really thick bread and not enough filling and were all chucked on the same plates, no separation, no presentation and no labels. It was very disappointing and not worth what I paid. I was also told that if there was food leftover, I would be able to take it home, thinking they have takeaway boxes. However, as a complete surprise to me, they only offered tin foil. This was OK for the sausage rolls but not for the dips. I then had to ask the not so friendly staff for plastic cups, which again was not ideal. If I was told there were no takeaway boxes, I would have bought pots with me. Staff were not very friendly or helpful at all. Would never recommend this pub for a party in the future. Me and my guests were very disappointed and left earlier than planned.

A nice pub but food is beyond sad. Something you would get at a hospital cafeteria - bland, overcooked and far from fresh. Surprised given the prices they charge.

My wife and I been 25 years coming to this bar and saw different managers and ownership change over the years we thought at one stage 10 years ago we would love to be here all the time being as regular customers and being acknowledged and welcomed but sadly it’s no longer the case the managers who have known us for years don’t acknowledge us even though we are here long time before them, the only acknowledge people who they choose and the staff are so badly trained to welcome customers one senior staff who I would give compliments to is Ryan who at least says hello. This is our local bar though it’s expensive compared to others but we hope things get better. Food menu is very limited and if you are a steak lover you have expect to pay 5* prices for a pub. The bar is very nice and the place have comedy venues.

Info provided re response from the pub (which is appreciated) The fish and chips were v dry and the mushy peas even more so (and were also cold) and didn't seem fresh - chips tasted like oven chips. When pub has a v small menu you expect the meals to be top quality. We were not given any cutlery with our meals or offered sauces - as the bar was now busy it took a while for one of us to go up and request these meanwhile couldn't eat our food! There is also a 10% service charge included which I don't like restaurants doing and unless I am v happy with the service / would have left this amount anyway I always ask for it to be removed as I prefer to leave the amount of my choosing (and usually cash) but for a pub to do this is unusual; I requested this to be removed especially as we had to go up to the bar to pay the bill ourselves anyway and was met with a slightly curt "was there a problem with your service then?" to which I responded about the cutlery etc. The pub is a lovely old building and the majority of the staff were friendly and hosting the comedy events in a decent function room is great so I'm hoping this was just a bad day.

Always enjoy popping in for a pint, usually decent atmosphere in the main bar and a good sized garden which is great in the summer. Comedy events are also excellent value. Unfortunately the last two times we have eaten, the food has been pretty poor. I like the idea of ordering one of the aged steaks, but I've been put off by the poor cooking on two previous occasions (including a pretty inedible steak) which makes the risk too high for the price! Won't put me off going back for pints, but would be keen to see the food standard improve as this could be a gem!

I visited for a Sunday roast with my mates, and it certainly did not disappoint. The atmosphere and staff service were first rate. The portion size was hearty, and the dishes were tasty and filling. The honey roast gammon is highly recommended. The crown jewel was the sticky toffee pudding which was simply delicious!

Great pub, great service, brilliant comedy. Cannot wait to return!

Look out for Outside The Box comedy nights

Such a lovely pub. Great atmosphere! The pub offers a beautiful function room ideal for a party/event. They also host some super Comedy nights.

Thought where can I to get a good Sunday roast and someone recommended this pub. Well it didn’t disappoint, fantastic roast beef served with great vegetables and huge homemade Yorkshire pudding. The gravy wow. The team working were so friendly and made me feel really welcome. Definitely will be back.

I was with an event upstairs. No disabled parking bay, no ramp, no rail on outside steps, no lifts, tiny door to climb through to get upstairs. I needed an emergency ambulance. If I had injured my leg they would have never got me out. Going back out we went through the exit to the garden. There’s a large trip hazard as you go to get on the steps. I feared I would not have got out and no upstairs toilets, no accessible toilets and the upstairs bar only 2 people serving at a 100 plus wake. Didn’t eat or drink.

Fantastic pub - attentive and friendly staff, very good food. Lots of nice spaces create a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Excellent service always obliging

This a lovely old pub. The staff and service were very good. We had an office party in their first-floor function room. It had a dated look, but I like that. The food was lovely and everyone remarked about how good the sea breem was. We really enjoyed ourselves and would book again. Thank you for a great evening. I heard they have a comedy night as well, so I will be booking an evening here for that.

We had my daughter’s 21st party in the function room. From start to finish they couldn’t be more helpful, nothing was ever a problem. Will definitely be using and recommending in the future.

Went see a comedy show last night through Outsidethebox. The range of food and drinks were fantastic. Staff were helpful and friendly. Parking was not a problem as the pub has quite a few side roads to park in. Has a lovely pub garden too. I loved the atmostphere and traditional decor of the pub, will be going again.

This used to be a regular haunt, but we had to stop going quite so frequently, as like many MANY pubs in London, the prices have just sky-rocketed. Understand why of course, but there's economics at last here, I.w. if you do your prices, you'd get more punters through the door!

Ok for a family visit . Tables weren't laid out in the gdn we did sort this out ourselves

Really like the pub, great wee garden for sitting out in when it's sunny and their sports room is great if you want to watch football or anything

A fun comedy night with a nice drink beforehand

Heaps of atmosphere at The Royal Oak in New Malden. Excellent wait staff. Lovely outdoor seating. I'm delighted that this is the closest pub to a friend of mine who lives nearby. We stop in here often when I visit. As she was laid up this visit, I arranged for take out even though the pub doesn't do takeout. Very kind of them! We both had delicious fish and sweet potato french fries. I can't wait to return.

Nice local pub with pleasant, helpful staff & good ale. It's also the only dog friendly pub in the area which, I think, is an important factor as pubs have traditionally been places where the working man could sit with his pint & a faithful hound by his side. I note that some have complained & assume they aren't dog owners. Who else would complain about a dog having a wee on grass - you've obviously never tried to interrupt one in mid wee...😂😂😂 It's natural, it's what they do.

Ok pub. Shame about the dog policy. I have no problem with dogs in pubs but, dogs seem to be allowed to wonder round unattended in this garden. Drink your beer, eat your burger and watch dog pee on the grass nearby. Had to repeatedly push dogs away from us and our bags. One dog peed on our bags and someone claiming to be linked to the management told us to keep our bags off the ground. Really!

Comedy night was great, but the beer was poor.

Lovely atmosphere for the occasion of a wake. Very friendly staff, good selection of ales and ciders and spirits. All round well presented pub.

Lovey food and we were looked after in both the restaurant for lunch and the garden for drinks. Lovely Spring sunshine made all the difference.

It’s a cool pub with its own character. The decorations is nicely done and you can see lighted candles on the tables. We tried their chicken wings with buffalo sauce and their fries, both were tasty and delicious. Friendly staff and felt welcomed.

We had a lovely roast at The Royal Oak, the food was delicious and the staff were lovely and very attentive, catering so well to our large party of 17. We would highly recommend!

Great comedy gigs upstairs The on tap cocktails are actually nice which is a surprise! The pub is dog friendly, the comedy venue upstairs isn’t (but I think that’s due to space restrictions) Have only tried the food on a comedy night when they have a restricted menu but it was ok standard pub grub, the normal menu looks great and I want to come back and try their steaks!

It's a quiet place past New Malden High Street, so it's a great place to spend some leisurely time. The staff are also very friendly.

Food is very good, service very good. Went for lunch and had the buttermilk chicken starter which was mouth wateringly delish then the rib burger which was also delish and big !

Having arrived at the pub and seated at 3pm we did not get our x4 adult main meals until after 4:30pm. Having only ordered drinks and the mains we were at a loss as to what the kitchen staff were doing taking so long (with a limited Sunday menu to cook). With the x2 kids meals and their side order of hummus and flatbread arriving around 4pm, after 5-10mins we had to actually ask the staff where our food was. The young waitress who was apologetic did her best. Clearly the kitchen staff messed up in some way. But with management nowhere to be seen or seemingly unaware that their customers food was taking so long to be served shows a lack of attention to their clientele. I can see why reviews are so hit and miss now. The food was good although we were expecting it to be hotter having waited so long. Not sure I would recommend though as the basics of serving a Sunday roast within an adequate timeframe could not be met.

We recently attended a family wedding here, and cannot recommend it highly enough. The food was really something special; absolutely delicious. Every aspect of the organisation was spot on and the Owner, Chef and Staff were friendly, helpful and professional in all they did. A great day was had by all.

Spacious pub with a big garden and dinning area. Good range of ales and some interesting beers including a local brewery. Food is possibly a little pricier than average but tasty and vegan and veggie options.

A great pub with a good selection of well kept ales. 26/8/22 After a recent visit it's looking better than ever. The beers are different but still excellent and well priced. I need to visit it more frequently.

Luke and his team are so helpful and wonderful. We held our Summer BBQ here for our company (Hello Neighbour Ltd) and they were incredibly accommodating and helpful. From pre-prep to on the day service. And the delicious welcome Pimms was perfect for a warm summers day. The team had a wonderful time and we even requested specific salads which were not on the menu and what they gave us were so delicious. We will definitely use again - thanks Luke and team

Friendly staff, offered an umbrella for the garden amidst the summer heatwave. Well kept traditional pub with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The Sunday roast was one of the best we've had and we will be coming back for more! Stunning gravy, vegetables full of flavour, generous portion of meat.

An okay pub, but when asked bar staff what food was available to order of if they sold something met with a blank look yet outside the board stated food available. Very clicky seeming pub and locals seeming not to welcome non regulars. Then when entering the pub at 2200hrs the bar man rolling his eyes like it was too much effort to serve was my last time of entering this pub. Since I have found a brilliant pub up the way tad more expensive but more worth it plus provided a menu when asked about food. Shame this place lost my trade

We had a naming ceremony in the pub garden last weekend. The RO team was super helpful, flexible and easy to contact, and most importantly everyone was really attentive and supportive on the day. The food buffet (option b) was phenomenal; the dish selection is well balanced and each dish delicious, plus generous portion sizing. It was a super special day for us all. We will be back there again for future family occasions.

Big garden, nice staff and boozer feel.

A quirky pub. When we visited there was a limited menu. The calamari was good but not very seasoned, buttermilk chicken burger was overdone, but everything other than the chicken in the burger was nice. Service was pretty attentive, delightfully polite and very accommodating. Overall, a good evening.

It was such a pleasure to have our wedding reception at The Royal Oak. The food was incredible, every one of our guests said how good the roast was and such a good portion size. The team at the royal oak couldn't do enough for us and put so much thought into making sure everything went smoothly and accommodated everything we wanted. Thank you so much for everything!

Food is good,nice place to have a family celebration

I saw Son Heung-min's record of his 20th goal of the 2022 season here. Food is delicious. In particular, lam shoulder feels like eating Korean braised ribs and then eating the torn meat and seasoning left at the end. It reminded me of rice... I'm not good at English, but the employees are friendly. The atmosphere is nice, and dogs and children can play in the beer garden. I think I'll go there often while I'm staying in the UK. The main menu is 10 to 15 pounds and the aged steak is 10 pounds for 100 grams. I think a glass of Guinness was 5 pounds. The two of us ate our fill and each had 3 cups, so it was about 100,000 won. It is more expensive than the price in Korea, but considering the price in the UK and the location of the pub, the price is quite acceptable. Sonny scored a goal, do we even need this review?
