Had one of the best roasts that I have had out this year. My partner had the steak pie, which was also plentiful, tasty and well presented. Will certainly be returning with my family.

They had a disco and everyone was friendly and having a great time. Ate here as a family on Wed 10th Aug 2022. It was their advertised steak night and booking is recommended. On arrival staff were very friendly and had no issues with us arriving early. We opted to eat outside in the sunshine and the staff were happy to help. Food was quick to arrive and tasted as good as it looked - very good! Happily recommended to anyone.

Ordered lamb chops with vegetables followed by bread and butter pudding washed down with a Pimm’s. First class food, in a very quaint old country pub. Several of us visited the nearby church afterwards. Several agreed that a second, more thorough, visit was warranted perhaps for the church music event on Friday, 14th June. What a truly delightful village Laxfield is.

I have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed 🙂. The food is great and the prices too. Their breakfast is amazing, top quality. The menu is "extensive", plenty of choice and they have a daily specials board. However, from the quality of the food, I doubt there is a microwave in sight, all seems freshly cooked. The service is attentive but not over powering and all the staff smile. So, if you want good honest, freshly cooked food, served with a smile in a pub that oozes atmosphere, you cant go wrong.

A lovely little spot to enjoy the surroundings, soak up the friendly atmosphere and feel very welcomed by the Royal Oak staff. They made an excuse for the chief saying he was under a lot of pressure ,so he might have been if you can not stand the heat get out of the kitchen before you loose all of your trade . We were camping nearby and visited in the evening for a bite to eat, this was the only choice that evening for food - ordered the battered Cod & Chips, VERY DISAPPOINTED, this is the worst fish & chips I have eaten in a long time ... soggy under fried cod and the chips seemed reheated, they tasted like oven chips, not good, On the positive the staff were friendly & the village is lovely, we sat outside & enjoyed the ambience, but the food was not up to scratch, sorry Royal Oak.

Stopped here for lunch whilst on a tour of the area, and was pleasantly surprised. The Pub is next to the church in this small High street. We turned up, a group of 12 and ordered food. The food that turned up was of mixed quality, my son was given a buger which was undercooked. When I took it back the woman serving said "well he didn't even know if it was chicken or beef anyway" and was generally rude. Beside the point as it was raw beef! Then she complained about the children playing pool unsupervised which was not mentioned previously. They did refund for the burger but begrudgingly. We popped in for two consecutive evenings on our short break. Although a pub for locals, we were made to feel welcome. It was good to see they are supporting local brewers (Earl Soham brewery). Also the food is worthy of mention. It is really good to see a chef who understands bigger portions are not the same thing as better portions. I had a moderately sized main course; so I actually felt like a pudding and I did not feel uncomfortably full after eating. The cost of the meal was also modest, so it felt like a very good value visit.

We stopped by at The Royal Oak, Laxfield on a sunny Tuesday evening for an evening meal and took advantage of the warm sunny weather and took a table outside (which was within the courtyard area at the front of the pub, overlooking the Main Street through the village). We were greeted by a very friendly lady working behind the bar and nothing was too much trouble for her. We made our choices from the extensive list of food. Two big hearty meals were presented to us all with our chosen choice of potato type and/or salad/season vegetables. Food was definitely homemade and we very much enjoyed the meal leaving no space for dessert, unfortunately! Will definitely return to The Royal Oak and praise this establishment very highly (note: if eating outside, you order at the bar and then have to leave a debit or credit card behind the bar once you've ordered - sensible thing to do by the pub, as people will definitely then return to pay for their lovely meal choices!)

I visited Laxfield to see the church where my great uncle was buried. I parked my car outside in the marked out parking bays next to the pub. I came out and was planning on having a drink when I saw someone taking photos of my car. Next thing I know the woman is shouting at me to move my car because it “blocks the view of the pub”. I tried to calm her down and explained it is a parking space but she was very aggressive which put me off going to the pub. A large group of us arrived at 2.15 on a Saturday afternoon. After a long walk in the pouring rain we were soaked and hoping for a nice pint and a bite to eat. The kitchen shut at 2 and we were unable to order food. We found the lady behind the bar to be very unhelpful and unwelcoming, in fact we found her downright rude! We had children with us who were cold and wet and hungry. We popped over the road to pick up a sandwich for each of the children but we were told very abruptly that we were 'forbidden' to eat our own food in the pub. Although we had wanted to order food and had already purchased lots of bar snacks. Such a shame as the pub itself was lovely. Customer service was however severely lacking.

Surroundings a little tired but overall good. Clearly a proper local pub.The restaurant area was empty apart from our party. The gentleman took our orders which inluded two cod linguine and a mushroom carbonara. We then heard chef lady (we were quite close to kitchen) moaning at the guy that his order wasn't very clear and then we saw one of the ladies from the pub rushing to the Co-op next door to buy spaghetti!Three of the party had chicken and ham pie which was clearly home made and good albeit slightly unusual with gravy rather than white sauce as part of the filling.Food overall was good. We were taken out to a Sausage and Mash supper by an old friend. We had not been to the Oak for a long while. The pub has had a chequered history, but I can report that the present landlord has turned it around. The bars are spacious and clean and staffed by friendly helpful girls. We were led in the dining room which was soon full with some 38 diners having a whale of a time. The supper was tasty, generous and quickly served. We chose 3 sausages from a choice of 5 and these came with mash, peas and gravy. Afterwards lemon meringue pie and apple crumble were enjoyed, all washed down by local beer and a smooth merlot from the Veneto. My one small gripe is that while the coffee came in a cafetiere, we had to drink it from mugs. All in all this is pub food and ambience at its best. Thank you Wendy for taking us.

The family had a nice meal here - standard pub fare, rather than anything fancy. We enjoyed a warm welcome, and it was great seeing lots of locals come in and have a drink, share their news and have a natter. The pub is right in the centre of Laxfield village, next to the church, and you can sit outside at the front and see the world pass by.
