Had a roast very grissely and fatty veg was hard and Luke warm food ,no follow up asking if we were happy with meal

First time in oak made to feel very welcome food was lovely had a steak sandwich with fry’s steak was lovely and tender and cooked the way I like

Beautifully done pub on the inside. I didn’t eat, but the menu looked amazing. There were some very enthusiastic football fans having a great time when I was there so it was impossibly loud that night, but I imagine that this is a really cozy spot to eat and drink at other times. I will go again and eat next time.

A great pub with new ownership by James and Gav. Excellent service, mega kid friendly and genuinely want to offer a great experience. Cannot recommend it more - I visit regularly with my children and love the little DVD area in the snug for the children. Great prices, a great roast and spotless toilets! I'm a regular now!

Had a Christmas dinner at The Oak with our clients and just want to say ,"Thank you" to the staff for their great service and a fantastic meal. Everyone's needs were catered for and a good time was had by all.

We are always looked after at this place and it's SO festive at Christmas!

We came for breakfast with santa. There was so many fun things to do. The food was delicious. Staff were wonderful. Our son didn't want to leave at all. Thankyou all so much. Definitely coming back next year if possible.

I want to say a huge thank you to you all for making our works meal a night a fantastic all round night with amazing hospitality and service. We originally booked for 20 guests and then it went up to 30 people. The Royal Oak accommodated all our changes. The greeting was warm and welcoming, the food was amazing and couldn’t be faulted and the service was very quick so we could all sit down together to eat the different meals prepared. As a surprise they put on a disco afterwards which ended the night perfectly! Thank you all so much and we will be definitely be back throughout of 2025!. I would recommend The Royal Oak to all 🥳

Absolutely gorgeous tasteful food, lovely friendly staff, will defo be coming back.

A group of us went here for our Christmas meal the food was good we arrived at different times but once we were all there the food came out the staff were very accomodating and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything so the drinks were flowing with it being on a Thursday there was no entertainment but James very kindly did a disco for us james is an amazing host and you can ask him anything we all enjoyed our night out here and we consider The Royal oak our local friendly pub thanks James and the rest of the staff for making our night watch out we will be back

Visited friends in Stowmarket today and went to the Royal Oak for lunch. Warm welcome, good beer and good value for money food which was served nice and hot, nicely cooked and tasty. I throughly enjoyed my main meal which was gammon.

Perfection. Never been before but certainly will be going again. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was absolutely amazing. Cannot find fault with anything. The staff were friendly but the food. Wow.

Warm and friendly welcome from all the staff visited with our grandchildren for Sunday lunch. Good value good quality and served piping hot which was appreciated on this freezing cold day. Grandkids were given colouring sets and crayons to occupy them. And the pub was decorated for Christmas which looked amazing. And lastly. Apparently we were inadvertently over charged, I didn't notice but the staff did and I was refunded. Which was extremely conscientious of them. Thoroughly recommended this local pub.

Visiting family in the area, been to The Royal Oak a few times, great friendly family pub, great food and prices without breaking the bank. Good service and relaxed atmosphere during the day.

Great pub. Chap behind the bar (Gav?) was cheerful and welcoming. The pub was decorated for Christmas (apparently not completed) and was just magical. 3 Christmas trees in the front of the pub looked lovely. Everything was so well done - this is really how a pub should be decorated for Christmas. Go in and have a look and treat youself to a pint of 'Rocking Rudolph'. Good menu, offering a wide choice of reasonably priced food.

Entertainment at the oak is brilliant on the weekend also the food is amazing, glad a have a pub like this in the community the staff are also really friendly

Wow! What a find in the centre of Stowmarket! Warm, friendly atmosphere and fabulous good value yummy food. With less than a month to go until Christmas the pub was decorated better than I’ve seen anywhere else. It’s very obvious the people running this pub have a passion for their business rarely seen nowadays. Highly recommended! 10/10.

I visited The Royal Oak while in Stowmarket for work, and it was fantastic! As a solo female traveler, I felt completely welcomed and at ease. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere is so welcoming, and the food was amazing—I highly recommend any burger or sandwich (but couldn’t stop eating the fries!!) The service was exceptional, with the team making sure I was comfortable and even sharing local tips. If you happen to be around on a Saturday night be prepared to dance and have one of the best nights of your life. If you’re in Stowmarket, don’t miss this gem. I’ll definitely be back!

Just got back from visiting family in the area. We and blown away with a fab Halloween Party Night, the pub had put in so much effort it really showed. Had a meal, food was very presented and cooked and service was great considering how busy the pub was on the evening. Highly recommended they have lots going on here, so will return soon with our friends.

We arrived at the Royal Oak on our way to Ipswich, ( lcfc fans) a lot of us pre ordered food, there was a bit of a mix up with food orders but every one was happy in the end. Good drink at reasonable prices. Great staff, very friendly. Would greatly recommend. Hopefully see you all again. 👍😁

Royal Oak stowmarket what can I say well it’s great value for money and the atmosphere is brilliant. The new owners and staff have made such a difference to the town pub with live entertainment on every Friday night and Disco with Beat 101 on Saturdays. I Recently took family for a Sunday lunch and the food was amazing I would highly recommend

Went in here with my friend for breakfast food was excellent very good price and service with a smile and a chat would recommend great entertainment evenings as well with a good atmosphere dog friendly too will definitely be making this my go to place

We came for a meal, the food was good and presented lovely. A bonus that it was 2-4-1 on the burgers! The atmosphere in the pub was perfect we will definitely be back again.

Have to say since the new landlord has taken over the oak it's become a really great place to go . Food is great and so much effort in the entertainment. Everytime I go there I'm always made to feel welcome by all the staff . Well done guys keep it up your doing amazing.

Love this pub on the Stowmarket High Street! Value for money, lovely food, great selection of drinks, clean, welcoming, good service!

Fantastic bit pricey but considering the effort gone in to make this a pub far above any other in Stowmarket it's worth it 👌 and a big thank you to the barman who ran to the bus station to see if my bus was still there!

Paid to play pool, had only just started when someone came to say they were closing and can we leave. I politely explained that we had just put money in the table and would like to just finish. When told that was not possible, I asked if we could be refunded the money for the game. Was told no, and escorted off the premises. The staff really don't care about you, they are only interested in your money. Stowmarket is blessed with many establishments, I recommend choosing one that values its customers.

Just walked in after 6 months of being in the place the first time out after I am in remission of cancer. I am not allowed in the pub I thought it was a good place I have been once in a blue moon to have a drink And I asked why I was not allowed in a bar madie said I wasn't allowed in

Been coming in for a few months now and can’t fault anything. Staff are always friendly & chatty whilst maintaining a professional attitude, choice & quality of food is top notch (including amazing Sunday roast) and a great variety of events to enjoy (disco, karaoke, quiz etc). Highly recommend

Maybe the last standing traditional small town pub in Stowmarket. Popular with the locals and the best place to catch a game on the telly around here. Also the snooker room and darts for the fans. Good burgers and other usual fare. Recommended mainly for the atmosphere.

Went there last night to watch the football. The barman, wearing a cap, could only just be bothered to serve me, no please or thank you from him. Then he turns off the football commentary and put on music. I asked him politely if we could have the commentary back on, his response, I am fed up with trying to please everyone, then he walks out from behind the bar and sits down with people at a table. Therefore couldn't order another drink. I certainly won't be going back there. Appalling service, dreadful attitude. There are plenty of other pubs who value their customers.

Amazing atmosphere, lovely staff - the chef is amazing and so is Luke. The Sundays dinners are beautiful and staff always go above and beyond to make sure customer needs are met. Would defiantly recommend.

I went to the Royal Oak for some food absaloutley amazing! Plenty to do, darts pool and the food is just great! Even stayed long enough to get a pizza at the end. James the manager was very pleasant and kept everyone in check even removing drug users! Fantastic pub and keeping the old fashioned style alive!

Been coming to the oak since the reopening and wow what a change. They have entertainment every Friday and Saturday and karaoke on Sunday which loads of family attended to as children are welcome till 9. They always have offers on alcohol and food. The food is great, my favourites are the katsu curry and the burgers, they offer late night pizzas which can be eaten in or takeaway. They do quiz and bingo once a month, quiz is on a Monday night and bingo is a Wednesday night. On the First Thursday of every month they do an open mic night with jax and co. They also offer a trip down memory lane once a month where they have a singer in during the day singing all the classics from the 1950s onwards!

What a fantastic friendly pub, great entertainment on every weekend, the food is great and well sized Portion sizes. I came in for the last trip down memory land with a friend and I have to say it was a great afternoon out.

Quite obvious the manager/owner of this property doesn’t care about drugs being taken in his pub. He was made aware and nothing was done about it. Do not recommend.

Such a good choice of different meals on the menu. Only like coming to this pub that’s local to eat. Brilliant atmosphere and such hard working staff. Love that it is a dog friendly pub and even provide treats and bowls of water for the dogs !

Went to the Royal Oak as it was a stop off pub in Stowmarket on my way to see family in Cambridge. Stowmarket being the small town that it is, I didn’t expect a pub to have such great atmosphere let alone the food they served me and my wife. Would recommend highly to anyone in Stowmarket or surrounding places to come here for food or just the quick drink.

Waited 2 hours for food, for them to serve my children raw food. Never go to this pub it’s awful. The worst pub I’ve ever been too.

Great local pub and the new team has worked wonders to restore the reputation. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. I am now a regular and they remember what drinks you like and are attentive. I've only had a couple of meals there and they were standard pub fare.

Not the best experience at the Royal Oak this time round, appalling as we book a table for Xmas dinner and not much choice on the menu plus no vegetarian option? The food was warm, had to send back to get reheated plus the vegetables were hard and half cooked, we visited in the evening plus a football match was on as well Well so we could really take in the atmosphere of the place, sorry but don’t think I would have Xmas dinner next year at this pub!!

Not the best experience this time round, we booked a table for Xmas dinner and the food was appalling as the food was warm and had to be reheated plus the vegetables were not really cooked and not stuffing or sausages with the Turkey dinner, even the gravy was cold!! What a shame as I was looking for having dinner as the food normally excellent at the pub, the astrosphere was not great too as there was a football match playing!! Don’t think I don’t too go together Xmas dinner nor football match.

Really friendly, welcoming pub in the heart of the town centre. Recently visited with my young family for Christmas drinks and was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. This pub has really transformed since the new owner has taken over. We will be visiting again.

Fantastic service, the staff are absolutely incredible and so friendly and helpful. Quiz night on Mondays, karaoke on Thursdays and the night life on a Saturday is amazing! Bands on Fridays! I would highly recommend coming to The Royal Oak if you fancy trying somewhere new as it’ll exceed your expectations!
