The Royal Oak in Mid Suffolk

Maybe the last standing traditional small town pub in Stowmarket. Popular with the locals and the best place to catch a game on the telly around here. Also the snooker room and darts for the fans. Good burgers and other usual fare. Recommended mainly for the atmosphere.

Went there last night to watch the football. The barman, wearing a cap, could only just be bothered to serve me, no please or thank you from him. Then he turns off the football commentary and put on music. I asked him politely if we could have the commentary back on, his response, I am fed up with trying to please everyone, then he walks out from behind the bar and sits down with people at a table. Therefore couldn't order another drink. I certainly won't be going back there. Appalling service, dreadful attitude. There are plenty of other pubs who value their customers.

Amazing atmosphere, lovely staff - the chef is amazing and so is Luke. The Sundays dinners are beautiful and staff always go above and beyond to make sure customer needs are met. Would defiantly recommend.

What a fantastic friendly pub, great entertainment on every weekend, the food is great and well sized Portion sizes. I came in for the last trip down memory land with a friend and I have to say it was a great afternoon out.

I went to the Royal Oak for some food absaloutley amazing! Plenty to do, darts pool and the food is just great! Even stayed long enough to get a pizza at the end. James the manager was very pleasant and kept everyone in check even removing drug users! Fantastic pub and keeping the old fashioned style alive!

Been coming to the oak since the reopening and wow what a change. They have entertainment every Friday and Saturday and karaoke on Sunday which loads of family attended to as children are welcome till 9. They always have offers on alcohol and food. The food is great, my favourites are the katsu curry and the burgers, they offer late night pizzas which can be eaten in or takeaway. They do quiz and bingo once a month, quiz is on a Monday night and bingo is a Wednesday night. On the First Thursday of every month they do an open mic night with jax and co. They also offer a trip down memory lane once a month where they have a singer in during the day singing all the classics from the 1950s onwards!

Great pub, great atmosphere and great food. Can’t fault it! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Quite obvious the manager/owner of this property doesn’t care about drugs being taken in his pub. He was made aware and nothing was done about it. Do not recommend.

Such a good choice of different meals on the menu. Only like coming to this pub that’s local to eat. Brilliant atmosphere and such hard working staff. Love that it is a dog friendly pub and even provide treats and bowls of water for the dogs !

Royal Oak stowmarket what can I say well it’s great value for money and the atmosphere is brilliant. The new owners and staff have made such a difference to the town pub with live entertainment on every Friday night and Disco with Beat 101 on Saturdays. I Recently took family for a Sunday lunch and the food was amazing I would highly recommend

Went to the Royal Oak as it was a stop off pub in Stowmarket on my way to see family in Cambridge. Stowmarket being the small town that it is, I didn’t expect a pub to have such great atmosphere let alone the food they served me and my wife. Would recommend highly to anyone in Stowmarket or surrounding places to come here for food or just the quick drink.

Waited 2 hours for food, for them to serve my children raw food. Never go to this pub it’s awful. The worst pub I’ve ever been too.

Disappointing after all the money spent on the refurb, that it doesn't have baby changing facilities.

Great local pub and the new team has worked wonders to restore the reputation. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. I am now a regular and they remember what drinks you like and are attentive. I've only had a couple of meals there and they were standard pub fare.

Fantastic food and nice selection of gluten free food! Lily was top class, very friendly, great service. Will definitely be visiting again!

Such a welcoming pub! Lilli, Jade and James are so friendly and always smiling. They are always working so hard, I definitely recommend the food and their hot chocolates, I come here on a regular basis.

Not the best experience at the Royal Oak this time round, appalling as we book a table for Xmas dinner and not much choice on the menu plus no vegetarian option? The food was warm, had to send back to get reheated plus the vegetables were hard and half cooked, we visited in the evening plus a football match was on as well Well so we could really take in the atmosphere of the place, sorry but don’t think I would have Xmas dinner next year at this pub!!

Really friendly, welcoming pub in the heart of the town centre. Recently visited with my young family for Christmas drinks and was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. This pub has really transformed since the new owner has taken over. We will be visiting again.

Amazing,.. food, hospitality, atmosphere. & service, all round great time spent for a family evening. Would recommend to all - it has made excellent changes in the last few months.

Had an amazing time for the kids half term halloween morning with my childern. We enjoyed a lovely full English breakfast, pumpkin carving and bat making. The staff were all very welcoming, food was lovely and the kids enjoyed themselves. We will be returning back on Wednesday for bingo. Thanks The royal Oak 😀

Fantastic service, the staff are absolutely incredible and so friendly and helpful. Quiz night on Mondays, karaoke on Thursdays and the night life on a Saturday is amazing! Bands on Fridays! I would highly recommend coming to The Royal Oak if you fancy trying somewhere new as it’ll exceed your expectations!

The royal oak has had a complete turn around since opening again, James the landlord has included every age range including kids breakfast and play time Monday mornings and a lunch time bang called down memory lane for our elder folks, obviously there's a band, DJ or other entertainment Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for everyone else. Not to for get the food is amazing there too. Dogs are allowed and they even have a treat jar for them.

When we arrived it was lovely and quiet the food was lovely but unfortunately when finishing our drinks around 10 youth's barged in shouting and screaming the bar lady did yell for them to leave and thankfully they did,but I suffer from stress seizures and my husband had to sit close me as I felt very uncomfortable and upon leaving we had to push passed youth's to get out, I'd like to think this wasn't a normal evening event because up till this point we were enjoying ourselves

What a fantastic find this pub was when we were visiting Stowmarket. James the landlord was so friendly and welcoming. Great beer and tasty food. Hope to go back again real soon.

It's the best pub in stowmarket by far since the new landlord James has taken over, well worth a visit.

Pleasant pub, we visited on a Sunday evening, so not very busy. Beer was fine, we sat outside. Little shelters, was pleasant 👍🏻

Good pub, 1st time ive been in for a very long time, very impressed, decent layout, good beer garden too, area outside also caters for families with kiddies games etc, decent fast pool table, good semection of ales and lager, friendly staff too, whats not to like, deffo an asset to Stowmarket

Had a lovely meal here a few times since it’s been taken over again temporarily and cannot fault it, service is always brilliant and food was very good.

I know its another new manager all beit a temporary one for 5 weeks i belive. They have cancelled all entertainment till much further down the line. BRING BACK MEGAN .

Nice and friendly, food was prepared quickly, only thing huby was disappointed in, no cheese and a burger sauce/relish on his burger. Overall, it was very good. We would definitely go again.

Popped in at the weekend & had the tea & cake for £2.99, the carrot cake was so good & slightly warm which made it even more delicious, nice cuppa too (twinnings) 👌🍰☕️

Came last Sunday for a Sunday Carvery, and the service was 5* and the food was absolutely delicious. Would recommend to anyone. Will definitely come again. Perfect place to hang out for young people, football always on.

It's nicely done since the refurb but it hasn't changed in there.

This was my 1st visit since the pub reopened, and liked the fresher look and outside seating area after the refurb. Drinks reasonably priced, but did not eat there so cannot comment on the food.

Definitely the best pub to go in the Stowmarket !!! Food is fab and the place and team are just amazing!!! The place has a nice vibe. I definitely recommend the place and will come again soon. Grate entertainment !!!

On my visit a couple of weeks back it wasn't a great look to see a member of staff eating a kebab takeout a couple of tables from me. Unless of course they allow take out to be eaten on the premises.

Although the £300000 plus refurb leaves the royal Oak in a really good state and the new management being very kind and professional, rot of the old clientele from pre covid has started to seep back in which causes trouble for everyone. However the early hours visit was pleasant enough.

Not very busy . Food was good . Unfortunately don't allow AA benefits discount as its a Greene King franchise

Pricey but up market versus street food.plenty of Indian desi style and even day offers for roasts.vegetarian options drinks desserts.variety.tasteful setting .TV .lovely staff.

Not the nicest pub around, feels more like someone's front room than a pub. But I guess that isn't too much of a bad thing. Seems like Greene King are neglecting it a little bit.

Nice pub inside. Bigger inside than I expected judging by the exterior size of the pub frontage. A good range of meals and beers are available here. Friendly staff too.

Always my go to for a bevvy. Food is nice as well and a friendly atmosphere all round.

Lovely place to eat. I had the senior meal, ham egg and chips, chocolate fudge cake and ice cream. All this for £4.99.

Excellent pub! Go there all the time, it has an amazing atmosphere, great selection of food and drink, all amazing value for money! AND they have a pool table AND a jukebox! Finally nice to see a proper pub back on the high street! Great job Jo! your doing amazing!

Lovely friendly staff and very helpful

This is a pub found in the high street in Stowmarket. They serve food and real ale so what's not to like :) There's a pool table and a 'what they call' a garden, though a better description would be a 'paved area out the back of the pub'. But don't let that put you off! All in all, if you're after a proper pint of Suffolk beer in the centre of Stowmarket then there's no place better.

Toilets need refurbishing and bar staff more customer service skills. A please or thank you would be nice.

Lovely pub and used to be a favourite drinking spot of mine but now it's in dire need of a refurb and alot of drinks were missing from the bar. I hope greene king can invest in this place as it used to be such a great place to go for a night out.
