After a special b’day dinner for our boy and didn’t want to go far. It’s always a risk trying a new place for a special occasion, however, in choosing The Swan in Hoxne we were delighted. I found a lovely French Viognier, my favourite, on the wine list. On the menu, we found all the usual homemade treasures on the front, then turning over discovered the “hot rock” steaks! The boys thoroughly enjoyed these which were served with a delicious array of sides - sizzling each piece to their preference! I enjoyed the homemade chicken and mushroom pie (especially the pastry 😊). Homemade ice cream to finish! I can wholeheartedly recommend The Swan Inn - you will not be disappointed.

Waited 45 mins to order food, table pre booked . 15 mins ,starter served was OK. 15 mins after that main served.. plate cold, chicken cold, mash potato warm, cabbage cold. Yorkshire pud cold. Gravy warm....sent back Served again fresh meal and plate. Plate cold, chicken hot, everything else cold. Yorkshire pud centre ice cold.. Returned again.. was asked if I wanted to see dessert menu!! I laughed and said no! Didn't pay for meal, was offered free drink but I declined. Asked for drink to be refunded which I had ordered upon arrival.. had been charged for large glass of wine when infact I only had a medium.. Barman apologised very sincere, waitress apologised and stated reason was not original chef in kitchen and that they had a table of 12 in!! I said regardless of if they had a table of 12 or 2 everyone else's meal should not be to a very low standard.. to which she apologised and said it was infact her mother who had stepped in to cook.... So we won't be returning..suppose it's probably best to call first and check if it is the proper chef or not..

Met with some friends for dinner. Unfortunately the football was on so main bar was extremely crowded and loud. Didn’t last long but the aftermath of ‘fans’ were in and out of the door to the garden where we were eating which was very noisy. My husband asked for a rum and the bar staff had no idea what that was! Food was nice. Service at the table was ok. Had to wait for ages for the food but we asked for a complimentary drink which was given. There were children running in and out screaming throughout our meal. To sum up the experience I’d say it was unorganised chaos! Unfortunately not somewhere we would visit again.

It had been some time since we returned to the area and thought we’d call in so it was nice to see the pub still as we remembered it but it’s had a lick of paint recently. The building is full of character with its timber frame still visible in the pub’s various rooms. The evening bar staff were very friendly and the beer was excellent. They had been wiped out of much on the menu following Mothering Sunday so the the fish of the day was scampi but served well and tasty. Our last visit they served good coffee with few pieces delicious of homemade fudge but that seems to have long gone sadly. Overall a recommended place to have a pint and a meal.

Booked whilst on a weekend away in hope of a little treat. Website looked amazing, pictures of food look excellent too. Safe to say, disappointed is an understatement. The starter of hummus, pitta & olives was poor, olives not fresh & pitta straight from a packet. After an already disappointing start, the burgers then arrived. The quality of the beef was appalling, each bite full of gristle, not appetising at all! When feedback was given to the waitress, no apology was received, plates were simply taken away. The overall feel of the pub was very clicky, if you are not a local... you do not feel welcome at all. I would not recommend travelling to experience the food or atmosphere.

We held a wake for my father in law here. The catering was very basic and we could’ve done better ourselves. There were 40 people that we’d paid to feed with a buffet and finger food and there was barely enough food for half of them. It looked really bad and was a slap in the face when the proprietor had assured us that she’d understood what was needed as she’d lost her parent. It was embarrassing to see and be part of. Tea and coffee was also pre paid for 40, but never came out! I asked for coffee and one cup full was brought to us. Then a few more family members cottoned on to ask. We’d thought that tea and coffee would be set out on the tables for people to help themselves. Very disappointing and not at all fitting for a fantastic man who is greatly missed.

Booked the swan a few weeks ago on the repatriation it had from previous Trip advisor’s How ever I felt a bit let down don’t know if it was because of the post Christmas. We arrived a little early so we had a drink at the bar pre meal the staff were friendly if a little distracted by other customers we were told we would be shown to our table shortly. At around 10 mins before our table was ready a family came in who had booked for a Party of 3 however they tuned out to be a family of 5 plus dogs. It turns out that they got our table and we were shown other tables that to be honest weren’t suitable either too noisy or too small. They tried to accommodate us and shown a table in the bar area it was ok but felt we were over looked by all in the bar. The food was ok bit let’s say cafe style definitely not Gasto pub maybe my expiation were a little high. I can understand they were busy post Christmas and all the staff were friendly and apologetic. I just hope this was a one off experience good luck for 2024

Lovely old English pub, with a large beer garden and carpark, nestled at the bottom of the pretty village. Plenty of history in those big wooden beams and panelling. Heard the food was good but unfortunately our experience didn’t match this. Waited over an hour for food which we wouldn’t of minded if it had been cooked properly. My partners burger was over cooked on the outside and raw on the inside, chips were hard and under cooked. If you ask people to de shell and de head their own prawns then a finger bowl should of been provided instead of asking for one. However the chicken curry was tasty and chicken was cooked well. Don’t think we will be visiting again in a rush unfortunately. It’s a shame as it looked such a lovely place. The service was ok just delayed.

Fabulous food & a friendly welcome, an authentic traditional pub. We visit every time we are in Suffolk as the best pub in the area .

Everyone was so lovely and welcoming , which definitely made the experience ten times better! The food was incredible , and much cheaper than you’d expect for the price. The steak, which is what I had, you could literally taste how fresh it was. The staff were super lovely, and it had such a sweet family atmosphere. I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area, I couldn’t recommend enough.

We had not been to the swan for a long time…I’m afraid our return was very disappointing. A party member ordered a chicken pie. The waitress put the food down in front of him saying, ‘it’s not a chicken pie, it’s a meat pie. Is...

A gastro pub for the family. Large carpark, and lawn with a goal and various footballs. With tables and chairs. Inside it is a hotchpotch of different rooms. With very good staff who are more than happy to chat and get to know their customers. The food was very good and was exactly as described, my sizzler for example. Steak, onions and mushrooms on a skillet. Next time we go back I wonder if they will remember what a muddy waters is?

I think some more up-to-date photos would help. These pictures are from when The Angel was in the High St. They are now in the Civic Centre The breakfast is still as good as ever. The service and welcome are good and the food is still excellent Only one slight moan and that would be the price of a cup of coffee: £3.50 for a small cup is too expensive

We used to enjoy our outings to the Gladstone, but it has turned into a dirty, smelly and "clicky" place to eat or drink! Instead of being dog friendly it is more like a dog kennel - dogs annoy non-dog owners by licking them etc and sitting on the seating instead of under the tables. The seats and tables are dirty and the whole place is unhygienic - we will not return and will leave it to the arrogant dog owners who think everybody wants to be licked and dribbled on by their pets!
