The Mill Bar and Grill in Mid Suffolk

I went for lunch today at the Mill. It took an hour for our food to arrive and when it did, it was mediocre. I could of had a better meal at Burgerking. Other customers were also left sitting way to long with little to no service. I won't be returning.

Had lunch here there other day, having never eaten in here before. It is such good food, amazing service and I can’t wait to try the roast dinners 😱

Not been here for a few years but have to say it was a great experience. Had the meat platter to start and then the cod and chips for main. As a gluten free person it was an absolute pleasure to be catered for without any hassle. We had a bottle of. Chardonnay which was very well priced at £19 a bottle. The waitress was absolutely lovely as well. All in all 10/10!! Having been to nearby Bury St Edmunds a few weeks earlier I can honestly say the food, service and price was so much better and we could walk home at the end of the evening! Sunday roast dinner was spot on could not fault the meal ...large adult portions so had a children portion and was so good and tasty all fresh ingredients..veg not over cooked .I had beef melted in the mouth and the pork stuffing ball I could have more was great ...service was brilliant staff great made u feel welcome .as for dessert lemon posset amazing will defo be returning back 10/10 . Can not fault anything ..even the pub was done out to a high standard

This was a second visit for us, and both visits have been wonderful experiences for us. The staff were absolutely wonderful, the food was excellent, as was the service. The staff were friendly and very efficient. I myself had a Steak and it was prepared exactly as I had asked for. We left after our meal feeling very satisfied and full. Cannot fault this at all. Will definitely use again when we are in the area.

We visited for the first time today, and we were very impressed with both service and food. We reserved a table for two for lunch - the young lady who took our order was friendly and efficient. My Roasted Vegetables and Halloumi wrap was delicious, as was my husband's choice of Chicken and Bacon. A nice glass of Pinot Grigio and a cup of coffee to round off our lovely lunch, we left pleasantly sated with a promise to return!

My husband and I visited for Sunday lunch. We were booked in for 2.30pm and as we were early phoned them for an earlier table which was no problem The food was good and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and attentive . Would highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Service was amazing and even got to compliment the chef. Partner says it is one the best streaks she ever had.

My friend and I had the Afternoon Tea. There was a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones to choose from and the tea was really good. The venue is very nicely decorated and there is plenty of comfortable seating inside and outside. The atmosphere was quiet but it was midweek so no surprise there. I recommend the Mill, it's really nice there.

Booked in for evening meal, the food was excellent, as was the service. Good selection of wines and beers, thoroughly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Afternoon Tea on Saturday. Everything was so fresh, I am coeliac so had my own Gluten Free stand. Delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes all nicely presented. This was our first visit here but would love to return. Staff were all friendly and pleasant, restaurant area was clean and nicely laid out We really enjoyed this experience.

Afternoon Tea for 2. This had been bought as a gift. The lady that greeted us was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was nicely fitted out with a calming atmosphere. The food was superb and plenty of it. The sausage rolls were lovely, so were the 4 choices of finger sandwiches, the fruit and cheese scones and the selection of cakes were just perfect. In short it was all brilliant. An extremely lovely way to spend an afternoon. Thank you.

I took a group of 38 last week for afternoon tea and the food and service was amazing. It couldn't be faulted and the staff's willingness to accommodate food preferences and intolerances was unbelievable. I highly recommend them! Thankyou so much!

I experienced this afternoon tea with 3 friends today & thoroughly enjoyed it. The sandwiches were fresh, the sausage rolls were especially good as were the homemade cheese & plain scones. The icing on the cake, literally, was the selection of 4 types of homemade cakes, all delicious. I must mention Bradley who looked after us all afternoon. He couldn’t do enough for us. He was very polite, friendly & attentive. I thoroughly recommend this venue for afternoon tea & look forward to returning again soon.

Went here for the second time for a work colleagues Birthday, first time the food was lovely, this time however not good I'm afraid. Two of the ladies including the Birthday girl ordered the linguini which wasn't very flavoursome and very bland. They ended up sending it back and not eating it, they didn't pay for it but that's not the point, it tarnished what should have been a special evening. Suffice to say we won't be dining there again.

Brilliant service for a first time visit today. We had afternoon tea which was absolutely brilliant, good price and so much we took some home.

Really lovely Sunday lunch followed by a great coffee. Would highly recommend.

The place is perfect, Apart from the disgusting behaviour from the staff. Threatening members of the public whilst claiming to be at work is terrible. Look how it's going to ruin the mills reputation.

I can’t believe the negative reviews on here . We went there for the first time today and the service and food were excellent . The waitress was very friendly and attentive and helpful. We will definitely go back again . I Highly recommend .

Just returned home after having the most enjoyable Afternoon Tea. Food was really lovely and fresh and included Sanwiches,Sausage Rolls and Scones(nicely warmed) and a very nice choice of cakes. This visit was a gift from our granddaughter and her family but now having FOUND the Mill we shall be back. Mr and Mrs Turner

Came here for a pre Christmas dinner with my partner which he had booked for us. We had pre booked the food and were really looking forward to it. We arrived and an instant red flag was that we were the only people there having dinner. Staff were very friendly and served us fast. Unfortunately the food really wasn't good which we were surprised by as there are other good reviews. 😕 My partner had the French onion soup for starters which was very watery and didn't taste great. I had the roast turkey and trimmings and he had the vegetarian pie and mash. Bottom of his pie was very soggy and the top was crisp and rock hard. Both mains tasted like they'd been cooked the day before and reheated in the microwave. Both portions of roast potatoes were hard and difficult to cut through. Cheese board was OK, stale crackers. Very expensive food for the quality. Unfortunately wouldn't visit again.

First time here despite living in Stowmarket for some years! Had a lovely pre Christmas lunch with my daughter (Korean Chicken & Haddock and Chips). Great service, food was excellent and not too pricey. "I'll be back" 😁

Don't waste your money £40/ person!, had afternoon tea bottomless gin and fizz, 3 single gins each and a poor selection of sandwiches and mini scones etc, was told an hour and half time limit but was told after an hour no more drinks, we had been waiting 20 minutes and the waitress just kept ignoring us! Stay clear of this place as not worth the price tag!! Very rude when we confronted the waitress! Cheaper to buy a couple of bottles from the supermarket with a selection of cakes/ sandwiches and stay in Doors, atmosphere would be better! Thanks for the reply, no mention of ignorant staff and poor service, feel for the high price tag that could have been better quality! a trip to greggs would of been better!, glad your other customers think its value for money, not sure 3 single gins and half a sandwich with mini scones and Mr kipplings cakes are value for money, better value elsewhere and staff that wish to serve you! Appalling service and ruined my partner’s birthday. Having looked at other reviews now, and the extremely poor attitude from The Mill in the responses, we can see why. We had waited over 30 minutes and not even been asked for our drinks order, while the waiter (a young man with long hair) was completely ignoring us trying to get his attention. He decided to serve 4 other tables that had come in after us. At the point when we finally caught his attention (through very dramatic waving, as that was the only thing that seemed to work, and other attempts were ignored by him), the other 4 tables already had their food and drinks. When we asked for our Groupon voucher to be refunded, the waiter was extremely unprofessional and fragile, and immediately said “I won’t be shouted at” even though we were very respectful in how we spoke to him, and definitely not shouting. I can see other reviews also comment on the lack of ability of staff with basic communication skills.. The manager on shift couldn’t guarantee we would get our money back, but we decided to leave anyway as it was just such an uncomfortable atmosphere. We were then able to get our money back via Groupon, by the restaurant sending an email confirming we hadn’t had any food. In the email, they tried to use the excuse that they’d “checked the CCTV” and could see the other tables had come in before us? So not only did we have the worst experience here, they then tried to say we were lying. There were 4 of us there and we all saw the 4 tables of customers come in and sit down after us… I fully anticipate that we will get a sarcastic response from the management like in other reviews, instead of any sort of self-reflection / taking responsibility.

Do not go here...we waited 30 minutes without being served, even for drinks, yet 4 other tables who came in after us got served and received their drinks and food whilst we are just sitting there! After trying to get the server's attention, he became fragile thinking that my mum was shouting at him when she wasn't at all, she was pointing out in a polite manner that other people were served before us. After the manager spoke to us, we requested a refund on the groupon voucher which they couldn't even garentee. We had a family lunch with two steaks, a chicken sizzler and Thai red prawn curry. The steaks and chicken were excellent. Curry was a little salty but otherwise good. Topped off with a dessert each, two choc brownies, an apple crumble which was reaaly good and a cheesecake.

Wouldn’t even give it a 1 star. Got told my id was fake, and they took my friends id. Never to return again, dodgiest place in stownmarket. AVOID at all costs

My Husband and I had an afternoon tea. It was so yummy. Sandwiches, hot sausage roll and a vegetarian hot cheesy pastry for me. Cheese scones also plain scones served with cream and Jam. Drinks of our choice we had tea again really tasty. Also a selection of cheesecake and chocolate cake. We were both extremely pleased and very full. The staff were very helpful and very welcoming. Would definitely go again.

Probably one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had for a long time. Food was lovely, good portions.. staff friendly and polite. Only fault is that it seemed a little unorganised, but the staff and food made up for this . We will be back 😊

Went in for Afternoon Tea. Friendly staff, great food & relaxing setting. We also both had a Coffee refill so why not get yourself down to the Mill.

Omg what can I say, had the halloumi and chicken burger! What a monster of a burger well worth the cost! And the staff so attentive Gemma and Ellen couldn’t do enough just brilliant

Had an afternoon tea at the mill. It was the best one I've had in a very long time. Fresh bread, lovely sandwiches, good variety of cakes, moist and tasty. The scones were still warm and super tasty. Would definitely recommend. 5 stars. Happy customers

Service was friendly and excellent from Gemma & Pippin. They were brilliant with food allergies and very helpful and still had a great choice on the menu and even able to have a proper desert! Food was tasty, nice atmosphere and welcoming. Thank you.

Arrived on time for a booking on Sunday lunchtime, promptly seated but that’s where it failed. Sat for 25 minutes without being asked for a drinks order. Other clients who arrived after ourselves were served. Staff show a lack of leadership and direction. Promptly left.

Had a lovely experience for our afternoon tea booking where we had a great selection of sweet and savory even catering for a vegetarian. Service was always attentive and always had a smile. And venue was also very pleasant. Would really recommend and definitely will be back.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch to celebrate my son’s birthday earlier in the week. Arrived 5 minutes before time booked and seated immediately. Then just sat and sat. We watched a number of other groups arrive, be seated and have orders taken but not one server came to our table, not even to take a drinks order. After 25 minutes of waiting for a member of staff to come to our table we left. Absolutely appalled.

We had afternoon tea midweek , sandwiches and fillings were fine and the sausage rolls were delicious and warm , scones also nice , but the cakes were shop bought small loaf cakes , the slices were very thin and small no flavour & dry , which had been sprinkled with a bit of icing sugar certainly not like the pictures on their website which show lovely proper cakes was very disappointing. Afternoon tea is £18 per person . For that I would expect better quality

We had afternoon tea on a Monday. The sandwiches and scones were very nice and fresh. It was let down by the cakes. They appeared to be slices of any average bar cake bought from a supermarket. Also they did not appear to have a disabled lavatory. The ladies were furnished with extremely low toilet pans more fitting to an infants school.

Been here a couple of times. Food has been good and service good. Was a calamity on our first visit as a waitress was on her first shift but we fortunately saw the funny side to it; poor girl! The only complaint about this place is it’s always so quiet. Not sure if we’ve picked the wrong times, but never much going on which is a surprise given the food and service levels. Will continue to visit.

Bought a deal from Groupon, roast dinner, dessert, coffee, and fizz for 2. Definitely exceptional value. The portions were huge and all really tasty and very well seasoned. All service staff were lovely and very professional, and we will definitely be back.

We had the afternoon tea. Food was alright, the sausage rolls with relish were veey nice but the sandwiches where a bit dry. Cakes okay ish. Service was lacking, only offered drink when we sat down. They never check up on you or offered another drink. Husband could see staff on their phones. Even with a prior booking the food took ages to come out, we'd finished our drinks by then. For an afternoon tea found it lacking. Probably won't go ago.

First visit, will definitely return! Best Fish and Chips ever, Chicken Burger was good too and so we’re the cheesecake. Service was impeccable and restaurant was lovely.

Location and food are lovely. Staff very attentive. Plenty of parking onsite and seconds from train station if you are travelling in or out after. Currently, there is a Groupon offer for 2 x roast dinners, dessert and coffee ... bargain!

Amazing food venue, terrible for a karaoke Sunday. Karaoke producer will only allow 1/5 songs at best, prioritising people she knows, while disregarding others, and can sing along with (albeit very poorly). Avoid on a Sunday night.

We were both amazingly welcomed and more than made to feel at home by the most professionally erudite and experienced of hosts PETER was his name,even though we turned up later than anticipated we were given the greatest of service and highly recommend this establishment...

Arrived as walk-ins cold and hungry. Becca was lovely and got us in then was very attentive. The food was delicious and sustained us for our onward journey. Thank you we really appreciate it.

We went there during night time hours. The staff were kissing during service (open areas) and then we were refused drinks due to closing hours without stating ending services; with the waits whilst they kissed and served other people. Management laughed when we walked away

It's a nice place, good customer service, good portions and I have enjoyed my food. Downside was super small parking lot. Very small tables for 2 and very close to each other. I used Groupon voucher and would not come back if I would be paying full price. Maybe we have been lucky but we could not get a coffee either as coffee machine wasn't working. Orange juice tasted like mixed with water.

Love the place but apart from the manager nobody can make decent cocktails had a curdled cocktail was vile. This has since been rectified and pleased with the outcome the manager is a top guy and cocktails

RUDE STAFF ! Turned up for afternoon tea today that was a confirmed booking and also rang the morning of just to double check. Once I got there they’ve said I’ve not got a booking and were very rude! Won’t be coming here again.

DO NOT VISIT! If you’re over 25 or have have any sort of disability that’s not obvious they will discriminate against you and not listen to reason! For context, I was there minding my own business having a good time until someone spilt a drink down me, I have 2 collapsed discs in my spine and as I tried to jump out of the way, as you would, I pinched a nerve in my back which meant I couldn’t feel my left leg, this obviously made me look like I couldn’t walk! I accept that they may have needed to ask why I was unsteady on my feet but they just wouldn’t listen to my explanation! I asked for the manager who just deferred to the security guys decision. Cos he’s a melt. ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT VISIT AGAIN!
