A pub with a real, authentic flavour! We were looking for this English pub air to breathe in... as a backdrop to some excellent pints! EXCELLENT quality and prices. The best we tried on our trip to the Cotswolds. Simple but perfect place like this, vintage and nostalgic, full of feeling!

An excellent pub, with a long and always varying list of well-kept guest ales and an enviable track record in the annual CAMRA regional pub awards. Very friendly landlord who is always keen to have a chat. Interesting interior, with the lounge bar having a huge display of pump clips showing a small proportion of the beers guested at the pub over the past 33 years. The public bar has a display of photographs and memorabilia based on the pubs links with the local Royal Naval Association. A real local gem and well worth a visit for anyone passing through Wantage.

Last pub in walking distance that I hadn't tried since moving to Wantage...loved it. Great traditional pub 2 seperate bars, No food served apart from snacks and just drink. Packed real atmosphere of locals.

Great real ale pub. Lots of memorabilia from their tenure here. No food offering but that's kind of a moot point given how many restaurants there are in wantage. Well worth a look if you enjoy real ale!

Proper traditional pub. Excellent selection of beers. Don't think they serve food but we didn't go in for food.

Actually my local, just, and within a 5 minute walk of my house. Too tempting 🍻 Great place to meet friends for a chat and a pint or three. My 6X was superb, and not just because it was £3.60 😉 Really friendly landlord and a great bunch of regulars. Made me feel right at home 👍

Excellent range of ales and Paul the landlord is a lovely guy and always willing to chat and make you feel at home.

Such a great pub. Extremely friendly locals, well kept and very reasonably priced beer. I stayed overnight in Wantage whilst doing part of The Ridgeway and the landlord kindly gave me some duct tape for my feet!

The Royal Oak looks to me like a typical old school pub. As my group walked towards it one of us pointed out that it didn't look like it was open, a comment I had to agree with, but once inside it was actually quite busy. The decor hasn't been updated for a very long time, but the beer was good. This not a pub I would go out of my way to visit, but if it was along my route I'd happily stop in for a pint.

This pub is absolutely based. Proper old style, traditional british wet pub. Brilliant selection, ambiance and service. Also was serving up Titanic Plum Porter when I visited. Will return with enthusiasm.

The best traditional pub I know. It's worth visiting wantage just to come here. They have a list of about 20 ciders, so just tell them your preferences and they'll bring you the perfect one. The real ale is also really delicious.

Probably in my top 3 favourite pubs. So friendly, and the ciders are magnificent. Don't start on the rum cask cider, unless you're looking for an early night.

It's a very good place to drink the prices are very good. It's an old fashioned pub no music no food. Also old fashioned drinking times if you like real ales it's the place to go.

Proper Old School type pub. Real homely feel about it. Landlord and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Always a Great selection of Real ales available. The Imperial Stout is the best I've tasted...but be careful it's a strong one, 10.5%.

There's a great selection of beer in here and the owners behind the bar are really lovely. I went out in wantage on a Thursday night and this pub was by far the busiest in town. The prices are good too when you're used to normal Oxford prices. There are two areas to sit as you walk in. We sat in the left area as you walk in. It was a bit busier in the right area.

The best drink-only pub I have known (and that's quite a few)! The landlord, of course, makes it (I even forgive him for being a Freemason!). Whether you want the best beer, the best cider, or the best whisky, you will find it here. Plus a really friendly bunch of locals.

Quite simply the best pub there is. No big-screen TV, just excellent beers at excellent prices. A perfect example of a town-centre pub for those who enjoy proper ale and good conversation. A national treasure.

Absolutely fantastic pub!! Twelve very well kept real ales on draft and keenly priced. Wonderful place that is a step back in time and so many pubs can learn from the Royal Oak. A great local that's always busy. If you're in the area and want a proper pub and a very good ale just go there!
