A lovely pub with a quaint village atmosphere. We've dined here several times and we have never been disappointed. The Sunday roast was our first and again this did not disappoint any member of our party. The went out there way to help one of our party with an intolerance.Well done to the Royal Oak and all her staff. See you soon.

Really lovely little pub, staff were all super friendly and helpful, food was amazing. We didn't book and arrived about 7.30pm but the lady at the bar managed to find us a table inside so we could order food. It's really tricky to find good vegan options around here that aren't a vegetable burger or pizza, so was pleasantly surprised by seeing a huge menu with several vegan options plus extra options that can be made vegan. Partner said they were the nicest chips he's ever had and he's fussy with chips. Will definitely be returning! Thank you 😊

A very loud local completely overpowered the bar area, spoiling any ambiance. Poor quality wine. The smell of the fryers put us, and many others we witnessed turning away, from eating - although the meals I saw did look well presented. A small pub that could be so much better - maybe clean the filters on the kitchen extractor or at least change the oil?

As a coeliac I really enjoyed it here. Most of the menu is GF and so anything that does contain gluten is cooked separately. They have a disclaimer on their menu that, while their kitchen does handle gluten, they take cross contamination really seriously. I was talked through the menu by the chef, due to having other allergies, and felt completely confident and reassured. And the food was fantastic!

Lovely country pub with excellent food. A really good selection of more classic pub options and specials (we enjoyed dressed crab and a huge oven-baked plaice off the specials board, both of which were delicious). This pub is a dream for anyone eating vegetarian, vegan and/or with food intolerances as they have a dedicated and extensive plant-based menu and gluten-free menu available (just ask the staff for the menus if you haven't notified them in advance and you can preview their menu online too). You can enjoy vegan "fish" and chips or gluten-free scampi, for instance, at the moment (June 2024) which is certainly not the case at many other places and a really nice treat when you're on holiday! I also appreciated that they stuck a little "allergy" flag in my food so that I could be reassured that they remembered that my order was gluten free. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and a nice mix of locals and visitors. Plenty of (well-behaved) dogs in the lower bar and outside tables. All the dining tables were reserved (a Thursday evening in June), so definitely book ahead if possible during busier periods to make sure there will be space. Highly recommended if you're staying in the area or travelling through.

Staying at Seadown Holiday Park so thought we would pop in and see if we fancied a meal later in the week. After paying £21.60 for 2 large glasses of wine we decided we wouldn't go back. Nice pub....no parking UPDATE The pub have now said they have a great veggie menu....sadly the menus were on the table ready and so noone told me about the separate plant based menu. ..rest of family had great choice and really enjoyed food. Coke/diet coke comes from a large bottle so i do resent paying through the nose for a pint when you know how much the bottle costs ..and it's no longer that fizzy Team were great, food was fab, quirky bits of decor

A great little pub in Charmouth. We didn't know what to expect but the food was superb. I had a lovely butternut squash tortellini and my partner had mushrooms with a port and Stilton sauce. I don't normally like blue cheese but from a taste it was delicious. We both had a mushroom and leek pie with chunky chips and a vegetable medley. My pie was a smudge burnt but was full of mushrooms, leeks and spinach and very tasty. I thoroughly recommend this gem of a pub.

We chose to have lunch here as has more review stars that the other pub in Charmouth. The pub was run by wife front of house and husband in the kitchen. I rarely order a starter but had my head turned by the crab arancini on the specials board. They looked delicious when served but sadly no taste or sight of crab, chef had added a very strong tasting ingredient, almost like garlic salt or something, which was the dominant flavour and I could taste nothing else, including the truffle mayonnaise. They were disappointing, I mentioned it to the chap who collected the plate and he said sorry and that was that.. for main we again ordered from the specials board, I had silver mullet with Spanish style tomato stew. The fish was cooked perfectly, but for me, the stew was a bit dense, it could have been loosened out a bit with maybe a good slug of olive oil, and a little sugar to sweeten the tomato, especially against the earthy flavour of the mullet, it just needed a bit of a lift. My husband had ribeye steak, the dish was nicely presented, but the very thick chips were not to his liking, I tried one they were quite soft, not really like chips, they were too big for chips, we thought the steak was on the small side at £24.99, but have to say really good to have the pepper sauce served as part of the dish, not like other places that change extra. We were asked if we wanted dessert and we decided to push the boat out and share a one, although we were asked by the landlady to decide as quickly as possible as the kitchen closed 30 minutes ago! I'm certain it wasn't meant to be rude but it came across a little bit so, the desert was however very nice. The bill was just shy of £90 although that's with a couple of large wines and beers too. After spending that amount on lunch we didn't come away a happy as we'd liked. The food wasn't bad, just not quite there. They are obviously working very hard and I wish them both luck.

Average pub with average prices and food. We were a group of 6 and only given a 2 hour slot. Unfortunately we were slightly late as there was no parking at the pub and it took us ages to find a parking space nearby. We ordered flat breads to share which was supposed to have cheese and caramelised onion on, vegan style. It came with just garlic butter on and took ages to serve. Then our mains took ages to be served leaving us just half an hour to eat. We asked for a dessert but the manager came out and told us we couldn’t have dessert because we ordered our food late and therefore our time was up. No mention that they took over half an hour to serve each course. However, they ‘allowed’ us ice cream only and quickly went ahead to hand us our bill and asked us to pay straight away just so they could get us out the door. We were given no plates for our starters, no spoons for our ice cream, and there was no salt and pepper on the table. Together with poor service and average food, I wouldn’t rate this establishment more than 2 stars.

We had an incredible experience at the Cross Keys. Mo and his team hosted my Father's funeral wake yesterday. The whole experience was incredible - made so special by Mo, Lucy, David and the girls. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt completely wrapped up in their arms from the moment we walked through the door to make the arrangements, right through to the day itself. I cannot thank the team enough for creating such a special celebration, which you planned so incredibly well. The delicious food platters were superb, and all the guests said what a beautiful venue it was. I was personally nurtured throughout the whole day, with Mo and Lucy checking in with me to make sure everything was perfect - and even David coming in on his day off to make sure my Dad's favourite music was being played. I can't thank them all enough from the bottom of my heart for all their kindness. We stayed in their family suite for the night. Our room was superb, with the biggest bed I've ever slept in, and beautiful views out onto the market square and the Conduit. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at the Cross Keys - the service is exceptional, the rooms amazing, and the breakfast was superb. We also had our evening meal in the restaurant, and it was exceptional. THANK YOU TO THE WHOLE TEAM AT THE CROSS KEYS - YOU ARE ALL AMAZING.
