The Royal Oak in Hawkeridge in Wiltshire

An unscheduled visit but not disappointed. Excellent varied menu at reasonable prices. Recommended.

Friday night group of six, friendly welcome but the pub was almost empty. Only one draft ale was available and ran out after our first round. Ordered some starters which were meh, overcooked from frozen, main course came out stone cold so had to be sent back. I guess with such a large menu the quality is difficult to maintain when the place is so quiet.

Came in for a late dinner with family. Food was delicious and well priced with generous portions, friendly service and a lovely setting, outdoor play area for children and a great view 👍

Very nice staff and friendly atmosphere. Nice beer cider and eclectic gin selection. however the food experience itself is rather lacking, maybe the £15 price point for a Sunday lunch has caused too many corners to be cut especially where the vegetarian option is concerned, at minimum serving congealed gravy could have been avoided.

Steak night advertised and reviews were good. Went for 2 T-Bone one medium rare and 1 medium. They both came completely grey inside and were so dry I thought we'd been served the Sahara Desert for the birthday meal. With drinks £100 was reluctantly handed over but the rudeness of staff after trying to send the food back and then the complaint afterwards which was handled by saying well all we can do is apologise was so unprofessional. The service was terrible, the food was inedible the drinks were the best part and even they were nothing to shout about. Atmosphere was totally a Local feel by which I mean if you don't spend half your life here you feel out of place and awkward.

Last night I took my dad for a birthday meal,the young girl behind the bar was beyond fabulous!(Sorry to have forgotten your name and never had the chance to thank you in assisting in a wonderful memories.)Banners had been put up ,the table was set beautifully,the food was served to everybody,hot ,yummy and at the same time !No complaints!When birthday cake time came a cake slice etc was brought to us ,tables cleared , lovely outside area with great views and animals ,!just perfect ,much appreciated to all.

Not too impressed unfortunately. Roast dinner pretty mediocre, not hot and waited a long time even though only two other people in the restaurant. Lovely looking venue but downhill last few years, shame.

Might as well buy a microwave meal yourself instead of having this place cook it for you. We went there for a meal out, atmosphere and service was very good but when it came to the food if was shocking, to start with they didn't have the stuff we ordered. The nachos starter was extremely unappetising, very clearly just cooked in the microwave and zero thought given into it. We have been there a couple of times and its always been good but the budget on the food has clearly gone downhill and the price up. I will not be returning to this place.

This is difficult! A mixed review I am afraid. Lunch time specials menu good value for money 3 different mains and starters for us and the food was very acceptable. However, the service overall was mixed, starting at the very beginning. I was left standing at the bar for drinks while a phone call was in progress, eventually I sat down and waited for the server to come to me! We placed our order for starters and mains. 20 mins passed when we informed that 2 of the mains were not available! Why did that take so long? After what seemed an age the starters arrived. Time went on and I ordered a pint of Buccome. Told barrel had to be changed 5 mins later a cloudy pint arrived. I left it a while to see if it would clear, it didn't so I took it back, the lady apologised but decided to take Buccome off, I had a Doombar instead. In the mean time the mains arrived and again it was OK. The atmosphere in the pub was non existent as we were the only customers! Midweek 1pm, we finally left at 3.15 pm. As I said very mixed, on a different day it may have been better but I won't be returning to find out!

Nice place been before but this time the Yorkshire pudding where over cooked and no staff to ask for replacement

Lunch at Royal Oak Hawkridge. Despite booking lunch for eight people to celebrate a birthday, disappointed to find no record of that booking on arrival. Very cold, no logs for the fire. Many items from a basic menu not available. Nobody bothered to attend to us. Decided to go elsewhere. Trying to pay for our drinks told the card reader wasn't working either. Doubt we will risk comming back here! Absolutely dreadful.

We ate here on a Saturday evening around 8pm. We wondered if we should make a booking but when we got there the pub was very empty. Just 2 other tables. The section on the right hand side felt bare and cold like a canteen. That being said, the staff were lovely, friendly and courteous and the food was really good.

we meet up with family for sunday lunch in july ,the beer was delightful and the roast beef lunch was so good topped off with a lovely sweet.

Sunday lunch food was excellent. Service was OK coffee served in cups with no saucers and handed by the rim not the handle. Very quiet in the restaurant. The mens facility was awful the dryer had never been cleaned and the sink was just as bad sadly. There was a filthy woolly mat in the centre of the pub that needs burning......! Staff were very pleasant but please get a grip on the cleanliness!

Called in for an evening meal, which I really enjoyed, and also had father's day meal there, very very nice, definitely will call again,lovely staff and very friendly, also dog friendly.

This place has a lovey atmosphere and a great outdoor space that overlooks Westbury white horse. The staff are friendly and the food is great.

Relaxed in the beer garden after enjoying one of the many local walks in sight of the nearby chalk White Horse. Friendly staff and a some play equipment to keep the kids amused while you enjoy a pint :) Didn't eat but the food coming out to other tables looked fab!

First visit to what is our new local and we need to support them in these difficult times. Food and beer both good, will be back.

Great food and great gluten free options

We arranged to meet a friend here for Sunday dinner, as it was a convenient midway point for us. I'd done a search for rated places to eat in Wiltshire, and The Royal Oak came up as the second best. We arrived at 6 pm, so it was pretty quiet. A server came to our table to take our drinks order; we'd expected to have to go to the bar. A few more people arrived to eat, but it certainly wasn't crowded by any means. While waiting for us, our friend had been looking at the menu on the pubs website, and was really looking forward to the fish & chips. Unfortunately, when we were handed the menus, it was a set Sunday 'lunch' menu (served 12 pm - 8 pm), and fish & chips weren't an option! However, my friend and my husband ordered the slow cooked roast beef while I ordered the slow cooked roast belly pork. Both came with roast potatoes, a parsnip and carrot, with a separate bowl of seasonal vegetables to share and a jug of gravy. The food came pretty quickly (or maybe we were just so busy chatting, we didn't notice!). For dessert, we ordered one of each; sticky toffee pudding, white chocolate & raspberry creme brulee and cheesecake (I can't remember the flavour). All were much lighter than expected and finished our meals off nicely. Tea & coffees to round things off. The staff were all very efficient, polite, and friendly. The price for our meals and drinks was very reasonable. The pub had a nice feel to it, and the views from the beer garden at the rear were beautiful. You can clearly see the chalk White Horse on the hill. On a summer's day/evening, it would be a really lovely spot to sit at, and there's plenty of space for children to run around and play. It's also worth noting that this is a dog friendly pub.

Staff are very friendly. The food is fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Very friendly staff, happy to help out with the two toddlers we had in tow. The little ones managed to enjoy the garden play area plus the view of the llamas in the next field. Didn't have my first choice on the menu so opted for pizza instead which was really nice, overall, a good proper local, wouldn't mind returning at some point.

Went yesterday for lunch with my hubby. Nice greeting by staff who were attentive but not over bearing 👍 we had lasagne and the bourginone pie both bloody lovely !! perfect portion sizes also - thanks to the Royal Oak team, see you again soon and probably Christmas Lunch 😉

What can I say but amazing in every way, lovely surroundings with fantastic food with excellent options. The beef and pork beautifully cooked and presented along with a great selection of vegetables. Great as a couple or with the whole family, reasonably priced and again a selection for your budget. Only one niggle but I guess it preference there is a old saying ' I love you like uncooked food loves salt'.

Was here for a leaving do, the finger foods past around were very imaginative and went down a storm. Haven't tried the main menu yet but Frazers the spin off takeaway in Trowbridge is amazing so am looking forward to test driving the restaurant soon.

We come here every month, and the food is always fantastic. Everything is clearly cooked from scratch. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. Also has a great garden with park for the kids and a chance to see horses, ponies and alpacas.

Absolutely wonderful service from Laura and her team. My daughter and I went to the Oak for an evening meal with 11 other ladies for her Hen Weekend and this place didn't disappoint. Not only was the food and drink amazing but at the end of the evening we struggled to get a taxi and Laura took us back to our accommodation. She is an absolutely wonderful Landlady and person. Thank you for making our stay in Trowbridge so lovely.

Excellent food! Real gourmet quality! Absolutely lovely fish and samphire, toffee pudding and the soupe of the day (mine was carrot and coriander...)! Friendly staff and lovely IPA as well😉

We thought we would treat the grandchildren to a roast, very disappointed won't be going back. Beef was hard to chew, potatoes were hard, very little veg. Had to give one star other wise I couldn't post.

The staff and manager couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy during our meal. Food was nice, childrens menu too which is good for those more fussy ! We will definitely be back, thanks

Off the beaten track but only 10 mins from Trowbridge. Excellent food with vege and gluten free options. Garden has children's playground and backs onto fields with ponies, alpacas and sheep.

First visit under new management. Lovely staff and delicious food. Will be back again

We were able to get a table on Easter Sunday and the food was amazing! We had the burgers and although I feel the jam that goes in it is a bit on the sweet side for my liking the burger was absolutely amazing and top quality. Would 100% recommend

I had the most amazing experience having a work meal with the Royal Oak today. The food was absolutely amazing (I’ve never had food like it). Not only was the food amazing but so was the service! Thank you to Halle and Jake for their amazing service, we will be back very very soon! (Already booked another visit!!)

Me and my partner went there for a Saturday lunch, it was fantastic. Plenty of options on the menu, nice selection of beers and ciders. The burger was mouth watering. Good parking and a lovely atmosphere. Looked like it had a good sized pub garden too!

Great pub with excellent food and service

Some food items not available, due we were told to delivery problems, cash not accepted didn't know until we arrived, apparently on website. Staff helpful and friendly. Check your receipt my bill was £42 but was charged £48.

Food was ok we went for Christmas lunch menu but putting it on a shared board I felt there wasn't enough on the board for 4 people only 2 roast potatoes each which is not enough for men especially or carrots & parnips all on the shared board & had to ask twice for gravy as wasn't brought out with the meal food wasn't really hot only warm. Went for chocolate brownie for pudding which was cold not even warm. Diffently gone down hill from last owner which is a shame

Limited menu due to delivery problems and shortage of some items, very helpful and attentive staff. No cash only cards accepted which you don't find out about until you order, unless you check website.

Christmas dinner was poor. It was Luke warm. Potatoes were hard and the entire dish was tasteless.

Not alot of menu choice no local ciders not really for kids no baked beans or much choice won't be returning sadly ,was a loved local before taken over such a shame

What a beautiful pub, a proper old English pub, with a car park & garden. We visited yesterday as we had a few hours spare and we were hungry, on arrival (4:45) we were told the evening menu wasn’t till 5:30 but as we were hungry they pulled out all the stops. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and chatted to us, we even got given a ride each as there were 3 left and there were 3 of us which was so kind. The menu was generous and the food was delicious, the whole pub was clean, tidy and decorated nicely. All in all we were very impressed and will be going back soon. Highly recommended.

We dropped in on Friday 29th October. The welcome was instantaneous and most warm and friendly. The food and drink were first class as was the service. Our first visit and we'll definitely call again. I was the man admiring the teapots. 👍

A bit disappointed, they have a way to go being at a new place, the meal wasn't quite up to standard. But wish them all the best for the future.

Such an improvement. New owners only been in a week. The new staff are delightful and the menu is excellent. We really enjoyed the haddock (excellent batter), very good Welsh rarebit and beef burger. Chips were home cooked . Crumble was very tasty (very generous portions) and sticky toffee pudding was super and not overly sweet. Beers kept well too. We will definitely be back.

Sunday lunch was disappointing, beef was touch and chewy, knives not sharp enough to cut anything to be honest, frozen Yorkshire puddings, and gravy so thin and not much of it. I had an apple crumble for dessert and it was an apple cut up, put in the microwave and crumble put on top, apple was so large and very sour, couldn't eat it, not going back.

Had the burger here was very good and the beers are well kept

Only the 2nd time of visiting this place and this time with my Son to celebrate our birthdays both born on 12th September but 33 years apart, albeit a bit late. The meal and service was excellent and can't wait to return 😀

Food was amazing me and my partner were on holiday not far from the Royal Oak, we live in Berkshire but would happily travel the 120 mile round trip just for the food .

Went there for a meal tonight with friends and family for the wifes birthday and it was fantastic, the food was amazing and the service was fantastic, definitely will be going there again, thank you very much for a fantastic evening

Had food from here several times, always fast, delicious and generous portions! Collected today and they’d forgotten one portion of chips off my order, but they phoned me before I’d got home and offered to deliver or refund! I asked for delivery and they arrived before I’d even sat down to eat with a complimentary drink! Excellent service, food and people!

Had a delivery last week (roast)excellent. And had fish in beer batter and chips and a lovely pudding. Would highly recommend, it was all freshly cooked and piping hot

Myself and my family ate Sunday lunch here in December before lockdown. The food was amazing, I had a chicken and leek pie which was delicious. Will definitely be going back there when we are able to!

We have just ordered and have eaten a lovely meal from the Royal Oak. Online ordering was easy, with a prompt, Covid safe delivery. Portion sizes were generous and the meal was so tasty!! I don't normally do reviews, but this was well worth 5 stars.Thank you the Royal Oak staff.

Me and my girlfriend ordered for the second time this month! Absolutely fantastic food and always delivered promptly! The mixed meat roast is outstanding!

1st time ordering good service great food places order for collection had a call within 5 mins letting me know when it could be collected. Main meal so filling having to leave dessert till later .

Well what can I say....first time ordering,and what a surprise, food was amazing,freshly cooked and cooked to perfection ♥️ They also have an extensive gluten free menu, which is hard to find, Staff attentive and friendly, so if you want a top notch takeaway from a local family run pub, ROYAL OAK @ Hawkeridge is the place to go😁 Thankyou so much for our delicious burger's

Excellent Sunday Lunch.good quality and quantity. During the next few weeks delivery or collection only but so glad I will not miss out on their great lunches. Haven't found great food like this at such a great price in a very long time.

Sadly, the food was simply put sub-par! Over cooked and lacking quality - I left most of it. Was up sold pigs in blankets - they were cheap, tasted cheap and it's unlike me not to eat bacon! I had to leave them! That how bad it was - cheap frozen ones from Iceland taste better! Dry chicken strips, and average chips! Really the whole meal was nothing special! Sadly! Struggling to be positive! The staff were friendly, but lacked focus and attention to detail! My partner had to send her meal back to get tomato removed. After explicitly saying "No Tomato" and it was on the ticket! We asked for the bill and after 10 mins went to the bar - the waiter was busy taking other orders and chatting and forgot us! While apologetic we felt this was the coffin nail in a below average dining experience. The place seemed clean and quirky - sadly the food was so poor this time - we sadly won't be returning any time soon!

Fantastic staff and fantastic food at very reasonable prices, would highly recommend to anyone.
