This small hotel I the centre of Chapel en le Frith was our choice for last minute casual dinner on bh Monday. A shared pizza with sweet potato fries and a glass of house red. Perfect. The old charm of a traditional pub kept up to date with freshly made food in a smart, clean and friendly environment. We continue to recommend The Royal Bar and Grill to our B&B guests with confidence.

The staff are incredible, we stayed in the town for a week on a family trip and visited twice. There is an incredible outside area with good views and, while I didn't get the name of who I assume is a member of management or the owner, they allowed us in for a lunch time pint when we had arrived slightly before the open on the second visit.

Best place for food in Chapel-en-le-frith, always welcoming and staff are very friendly and attentive, nothing is to much trouble.

The wife and I stayed for one night in May. We stayed in room 2. Very clean & well laid out with complimentary tea, coffe & milk etc. Powerful shower & fully tiled en suite. Really comfy bed & pillows. We had a meal the same night. I had meatballs & spaghetti & my wife had pasta Aribiata. Both meals were perfect. Would definitely recommend this place.

Second visit and just as good as before. Very good quality, tasty steak cooked to perfection and excellent home made meat balls. Friendly staff, nice decor, reasonable prices, fantastic food and just on our doorstep. Would definitely recommend to anyone if you are in the area.

Wish we had found this place sooner !!! The freshly prepared food was exquisite. We had mozzarella cheese sticks for starters , and calamari ( never seen it prepared like that and both melted in the mouth . For mains we had calzone and scallops linguine. Yes there is a wait for the food, but it’s because it’s so freshly made to order. I do t normally write reviews , but genuinely if you are staying in this area try the food !! We also thought the premises was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean and service very friendly too.

We initially booked for 5 nights with our Dog.. was greeted by the owner who was very nice.The room was clean and welcoming.We had a meal in the bar and it was amazing and large portions too. Staff very friendly and accommodating but unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to an absolute family emergency at home so missed out on the remainder 3 nights stay. We would recommend this place 100%

We visited todayI had a standard burger and husband had the full works. We struggled to finish it absolutely spot on freshly cooked and fresh products. Definitely would vist again

Just ‘wow’!! Chose to dine here out of all the restaurants and so glad we did! Compliments to the chef, food was absolutely fantastic, staff were great, very attentive. My friend and I went for tea on a Sunday evening, and took our two dogs. We were welcomed and served by very friendly team members, who kindly brought our dogs a bowl of water. The pizza was excellent, service fab and general atmosphere was great. Thank you!!

A warm welcome in this smart dog-friendly bar/restaurant. Service was spot on. Food arrived quickly and was excellent. I had the lamb chops which were awesome and came with real chips (not frozen) which makes such a difference. We will be back.

This place has a large restaurant area, nicely set up, and a smaller pub area to the side with sofas. The bar staff were pleasant and well organised and the ale was well kept. The menu has an Italian bias and I think that the manager is from that country. When I asked if the meat balls were made in-house, he said "Of course they are!" These were served as a starter - they were small and in a tasty, gently spicy tomato sauce. My main course was sea bass which was a very generous plate with two fillets very nicely cooked along with all the trimmings. Service was considerate and very good, and the price reasonable for the quality of food.

Took over 20 minutes for them to come to our table another 10 to take our food order. We went and picked our food order up at the kitchen. Went and looked at our room to stay wrong room wasn’t willing to accommodate us at all. Refused to give our money back. This definitely isn’t the place to stay

The quality of the food is excellent, the staff are all friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble, it has an extremely relaxing ambiance. There were four of us in our party and we all agreed we shall definitely be returning. They deserve all of the credit due to them I can’t rate them highly enough, pay them a visit you will be pleased that you did.

As local residents of Chapel, we wanted to add our comments of recent enjoyment of your beer and pizza. We always pop in when we want a quick pizza. It is the best in the area, hot and fresh, tasty and well priced.

Family run pub and restaurant. We visited twice during our trip, the second time to the restaurant. Despite the very extensive menu, the food was sublime…really well made and presented home made food. The menu descriptions really don’t do the food justice. Would recommend.

Have just returned from Sunday lunch with friends at the Royal Oak Chapel en le Frith.First, meal out since COVID, and it was as good if not better than I remembered. I had the sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. As usual, we were given a complimentary garlic bread to share, even though some of us had ordered starters. The mussels in tomato sauce were good and the sea bass was cooked to perfection. One of us had the chicken swinger and the chilli sauce with it was gorgeous, homemade to a Turkish recipe. We ended with tiramisu again, baked by the chef, excellent. From the warm welcome and throughout the whole meal the service was excellent. As we only live in Buxton we'll be back. Due to COVID regulations, you have to book ahead, well worth it. Out for the day in the Peak District and on the way back to Manchester, it's worth turning off for Chapel, the restaurant is easy to find on the main road in Chapel, with plenty of free car parking in the back. Also very family friendly.

We ordered a take away from the Royal Oak, after eating here many times pre lockdown. it arrived perfectly on time. It was amazing, really hot and obviously freshly cooked. The chips were amazing as always, burger was juicy and just as we asked for it. Calamari was crisp and the ribs melted as you ate them. I would definitely recommend them!

Hi. Just moved into the area, like the food, the real fire, the beer is a bit hit and miss. Went in for a drink last week and the beer was awful, it tasted of the pipes.If you can sort this out that would be brilliant

Lovely dinner celebrating my husband's new job. Rare steak requested and it came... Rare! Absolutely beautiful. Husband had a great pizza. Staff were attentive and polite and remembered us from our last visit before Christmas. Best restaurant in Chapel!

We visited as a couple for a local night out. I hadn't been since the week it opened. Nice to see the change that the restaurant is now separated from the pub.We both had the chorizo and halloumi starter with humous. Excellent. Lots of taste. For mains I had the mushroom chicken and other half had the salmon. Both very tasty and great value meals.One major point is how good the waiter and waitress were. The restaurant was packed and the 2 of them worked so hard and so competently. Excellent staff. Other restaurants could learn from these.Well worth a visit if in the High Peak and you like tasty and well priced food with excellent service

Went with hubby for a meal because the restaurant we wanted to go to was booked up. Glad it was because the food was amazing and service excellent. Very quick and friendly. Definitely go again.

Stayed over night in the village at another B & B but came for food at The Royal Bar and Grill. It was great. It was quite busy but there was no issue with accommodating my husband and I. My husband had the steak and I had a pizza. Both were very nice. The pizza was massive and I only managed to eat half of it. They kindly boxed up the other half to take a way. The prices are reasonable and I can't fault the staff. Thank you guys!

I took my family there together with 2 dogs, to a place I'd never been before. My communication with the proprietor beforehand was clear and friendly. I was really impressed with the amount of attention to our needs he paid when we arrived. Our room was clean and spacious. We had a really restful time. We ate in the restaurant on the first evening and were really impressed with the range of food available, and that it was all provided hot and well presented. The restaurant was busy so the wait was a tiny bit longer than I'd hoped but our requests about when it was coming etc, were met with efficient responses and our food soon came. All in all a really great stay and I would definitely go back again. They were also really helpful with our range of breakfast requests and the particular things we wanted to eat. I liked it a lot.

Came here on a recommendation after our previous ideas had been flummoxed for a variety of reasons! And what a lovely surprise. Was expecting a local boozer-type pub, but actually all laid out as a restaurant. Italian style menu, with a good range of pizzas and some pasta, then a variety of other dishes. Good sized tables, with proper napkins. And very reasonably priced menu.

Just been for Sunday dinner at the Royal Oak, had 3 course meal for 13:95 , really good value for money and food was very nice and the staff are very friendly, would recommend.

I feel I have to write another review after visiting a year later. Still excellent food and service. Reasonably priced. Very impressed with the waiters, very child friendly, especially with our 1 year old they, appear to like children which made us feel more relaxed. Food was delicious! Tasty and authentic. Nice atmosphere, will be back again very soon.

Went here last Friday for food after work - this was the first time I'd been since it had changed from being the Royal Oak pub.

The staff were very accommodating, they couldn’t do enough for us. They were extremely polite, attentive and friendly, a rare treat nowadays. The menu had a good range, perhaps needed proof reading before it went to the printers lol. We all enjoyed our meals and will definitely go again. In fact we went back for takeaway pizza the next week.

We were lucky to get a table here last minute for Mother's day. We had to wait for the table for 25 minutes due to how busy they were but we were seated at their bar and offered drinks whilst we waited and menus to browse. The place was rammed which is always a good sign. The kitchen is clearly visible to customers which again shows that they have a high standard and are happy to be in view when preparing the food, another positive point. We had a few starters between us like tapas style dishes and then pizzas for main. Even though we had a wait for our food due to it being so busy the quality once it arrived certainly hadn't suffered. Well priced, lovely staff and yummy homemade food. We will definitely be making this a regular place for our meals out

We enjoyed a great meal here...three of us had the hangers... excellent quality. Careful of the accompanying pepper sauce, it's very hot - I mixed mine with mayonnaise. Good value red wine (Primitivo). Lovely chocolate brownie dessert.

We had a few drinks in the Royal Oak on Saturday early evening with our children, the staff were very attentive too them and made us all feel very welcome. We decided to order some food to takeaway and despite having to wait longer than we intended, the pizza's were worth the wait. The BBQ chicken pizza was amazing. I'll be back when I'm next visiting and will probably sit in as the restaurant looked beautiful.

Went here with friends who were travelling south and had a great evening. The food was delicious, steaks - best I’ve had - and everyone’s was done just how they like it. Calamari was fab and the haloumi and chorizo starters were excellent. Service was friendly and prompt. Great atmosphere. The dessert menu isn’t very good, it could do with a proper review as it lets down the rest of the menu. Despite that we had a lovely evening and were very satisfied.

Got rid of the pool table, pretty sad times for our friendship group:( kids running wild, don't like kids

Stayed here for 2 nights. Inexpensive and basic. However it needs some serious investment. The bathroom sink hadn’t been cleaned. Stains on taps and mirror. Shower head dripped. Fan not working. No shelf or shaver socket. No bedside table on one side of the bed. Nowhere to put things down in the room. No coat hooks. Hangers over the kettle area rendered useless by the drinks area. Could be nice with a little thought...saving grace was the comfy bed(needed a mattress cover though) and the peace and quiet. Oh and Keith. Keith is very friendly and helpful. The only reason we would come back is that it’s local to family, pet friendly, low price, comfy bed and Keith...

I have stayed at the Royal Oak for 3 weeks now and have eaten almost every thing on the menu. The food is very nice as are the staff and people who use the hotel.

Recently taken over and is now very much Greek food inspired. I tried the lamb hanging kebabs which were excellent, and there were plenty of option for vegetarians. Staff were all great and a good price too.

Breakfast first day. Chef was not awake. Manuel equivalent cooked some greasy indescribable breakfast, no choice, undercooked sausages made my husband actually puke. Second day the proper chef was awake. He is a good cook but turned up in his pyjamas. We caught him out eating from the muesli with his hands. The room was relatively clean after travelling through a landing that stank of smoke. In the middle of the night my daughter was cold so I reached to the wardrobe for a blanket. In the light of day the following morning I realised the blanket was stained with brown and had a sweet wrapper stick with used sugar to it. Utterly minging. Also the shower door was hanging off. Plastic pillows which the pillowcases would not stay on so you end up sleeping on plastic. Downstairs outside smelt like urine and someone had graffitied rude symbols on the windows. Kind and trying but far from what you pay for. They offered us a free dinner as compensation.

Went for Xmas Lunch, a lovely festive atmosphere and the food was delicious. Great friendly service. Great value.

Myself & my partner reside in the Chapel en le Frith area & had,had good reports about The Royal Oak or is it The Royal? The pub is conveniently positioned opposite the market square & is a Georgian building ( you can't miss it).

Went in on a Monday night and it had a few families in . I had the lasagne which was the best iv every had , so tasty and presented well my friend had burger and he loved it . The people who work there are so friendly and made it a real enjoyable evening . It’s more than just pub food .

Been here three times recently and each time the food has been really lovely. The staff are very helpful, friendly and we were served quickly. The owners are relatively new and have improved the place massively. It is clean, nice atmosphere and like I said, the food is delicious. Definitely recommend

We made two visits during our week long stay in the Peak District. On both occasions the food was great, the service polite and friendly and the quiet background music created a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

We found ourselves in Chapel-en-le-Frith and hunting for somewhere to have lunch. We chose the Royal Oak hotel. The eating area was very tidy, I almost didn’t want to disturb it by sitting down. All the brass was polished and several members of staff were finishing cleaning the bar area.

I've just been for an evening meal with five friends. We all had different starters and mains and they were all great - really well cooked food and very well presented. There was no problem with catering for gluten free, It was as a lovely relaxed atmosphere and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will certainly be back.

Called in for lunch as a our original eatery was not serving lunch that day. What a surprise we had. Passed the place many time but never called in. Food was excellent and service was very very good. We will definitely return.

We came here as we noticed the owners had changed and it was now open as an Italian. There were offers on the board outside so we decided to give it a try and i'm glad we did! The food really exceeded our expectations. My partner had a pizza and i had a pasta dish and we could not fault them, very delicious. Although the waiter had made a mistake with the pizza order, he came and told us straight away and we appreciated his honesty. The pizza was bigger than expected, so he gave us a box to take it home. We will definitely be coming here again, very relaxed and child friendly. Highly recommended!

This is our third visit in the last few month's. Weve had Steak, lamb, pizza, mussels, prawns to name a few . Weve tried something new every time. Every time its been excellent. The service is attentive and the staff are all really friendly. All the food is freshly cooked and they also serve food on a monday night which is amazing in Chapel. We will be back soon ..

Popped for tea with friends , first time I have been , We had main courses of pasta , the ravioli is home made and my friend loved it , I had lasagne , it was very good ... The garlic bread was the star of the show , it was fantastic ... good wine , reasonable prices and great service from both the owner ad one of the young waiters.

Me and my wife have just come back from the Royal Oak after having some good food. The service was quick and efficient and the food was really tasty and home made. I would definitely recommend eating hear and we will definitely be back soon

Visiting friends in Chapel-en-le-Frith they suggested going out for Saturday night dinner here. We were warned the portions were on the large side so decided to share a starter having garlic mushrooms. They came in a hot metal skillet with a piece of bread to soak up the sauce and were delicious, could’ve eaten a whole portion myself but was glad I didn’t as it would’ve spoilt me for the delights to follow. I ordered the sea bass with vine cherry tomatoes. It with homemade chips and fresh vegetables, there was 2 large fillets of fish which was perfectly cooked and throughly delicious. My husband reported his sirloin steak was perfectly cooked too. We both really enjoyed our food and cleared our plates. The service was quick and efficient, the atmosphere was friendly and the have an open kitchen area so you can see them preparing your food. All in all a great dining experience and one we will repeat when we are up again.

So I’ve been to the Royal a few times over the years but mainly just to have a pint and a game of pool-so when a friend said that they had booked for us all to go for a meal I didn’t know what to expect. They did really well to fit us all in on one table (there was 18 of us) and not be cramped up. I would say the menu is a mix of Greek/Italian and English (gluten free options) and there seemed plenty of choice. It did take a little longer for the food to arrive but there was a lot of plates to serve, I only heard good comments from everyone (the steak went down well). The staff also were really keen to help out with some food not on the menu for some of the children in the group-I know that this was appreciated.

Wow. The new management have really transformed this venue into a great place to eat. The formerly gloomy dining area is now light and bright, with a classy Meditterranean feel.The food is amazing. Our party had various pizzas, which are 14 inches diameter and thin and crispy, with a variety of very tasty toppings. We also enjoyed the lamb "hanger" kebab, which was a massive portion for one person, the accompanying chips were really good. Service was very professional. We will come again and explore the menu further!

The tables are well laid out and not cramped. The service is good, all the staff are friendly. The food is tasty and well presented with a good choice on the menu. Would highly recommend.

Some friends and my husband and I had a meal at this pub last Thursday evening. We weren't going to go inside as the outside did not look particularly inviting, and there were no menus showing, but we were encouraged to try it by one of the staff outside. On entering we were very impressed - a smart barman in a clean white shirt, and the tables all laid up beautifully for meals. After we ordered our drinks and meals, a large complimentary pizza was brought to our table to try. The service was excellent, and the food could not be faulted. Steaks beautifully cooked, and the chicken so tender. Great music and atmosphere. Will definitely go back again.
