Went for lunch with family who were here on holiday. We all chose the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, roasties and seasonal veg from the specials board. The beef was first class as just melted it was so tender. Of the sweets on offer they had a gluten and dairy free option which I found very unusual as usually this was not offered elsewhere. Delightful! Claire our server could not be more helpful and also made an oat milk latte for me which again is not usually offered in other similar settings. FIRST CLASS We would highly recommend this restaurant

Hadn't booked a table, but they managed to fit us in (was pretty busy). Ate haddock and mozzarella fishcake with sweet potato fries, and cheesecake - both decent portion sizes, reasonably priced, and tasty. All staff friendly and welcoming.

Excellent food, attentive servers, and an amazing steamed vanilla pudding with homemade custard! Our server anticipated my ( older) mother-in-law's need for a smaller, easier to handle cup for her coffee and was so thoughtful for our comfort. Excellent mussels and even had vegetarian options! It's one of my favorite places for lunching out.

For six years my wife and I have stayed at our daughters house, and every time (twice a year) we have had at least three meals at the Royal Oak, Cullen. Never again. Scott - the bartender - took my order for two cans of diet coke and a cocktail for my wife. I get the coke, then he ignored me while he dealt with the bill for a large party who were in the process of leaving. They took their time, chatting noisily amongst themselves as the terminal was very slow to connect, but in the meantime totally ignored me, despite my advising him I was still waiting for Sheila's cocktail. Eventually the large group left and he then dealt with ANOTHER person interrupting. At this point, we decided to leave, and Sheila had a single coke as she was not particularly well. As a diabetic, I had little choice but to order some food, which I have to say was as superb as always, and very promptly served. When we had finished I went to pay the bill. £24.55 for three cokes and a soup? only in central London. It transpires he had charged for the cocktail (£10) and left that on the bill, which I stupidly paid without checking, as I wa quite keen to leave the experience behind. Getting back to our daughters, I checked my debit card and discovered the error, so called the hotel to be told i had been extremely rude to Scott. I'm guessing here that he may be a very gentle soul, unused to anyone queering his skills/attention or attitude. He had - according to the manager - felt my "rudeness" in telling him I was disgusted at the lack of attention to the people he HAD STARTED TO SERVE, to deal with this other group, was unwarranted. At this point, I should point out that as a clinician I train NHS and private practice staff to be alert to patients' needs, to pay attention and ensure they get the service necessary. I've only done this for 42 years so I am no stranger to customer service. Now I know this is "cutting off my nose to spite my face", but the combative attitude from the manageress when I called them has ensured we shall never again go to the Royal Oak, which personally I find rather sad.

Made very welcome by all staff, with our dog, when on holiday for a few days and popped in here for some dinner. She was catered for as well as us with a big plate of fish and rice which she loved. Our meal was lovely too. Only would suggest a deep dog bowl rather than a rather shallow plate, to prevent the mess our girl managed to make on the carpet!!

What an excellent lunch! Very pleasant decor in the restaurant and fine and warm on an autumn day. Pleasant staff. Excellent menu choices with the specials of the day adding many other options. Food portions were large! All very tasty indeed Two of us had the steak pie, lots of top quality beef and a light pastry. Another member had the chicken which was also delicious and plentiful. Fresh vegetable cooked very well. The deserts were also large portioned and totally delicious. Coffees to finish were fine too.

As someone one else has pointed out, it’s now called the Spey Inn. Was there earlier this week for lunch as in area and parents recommended it from a visit a year or so ago. It was quiet but we got a friendly welcome from the two members of staff. My parents commented on the size of the menu which has apparently changed and did seemed limited in choices. 3 of us ordered the Cullen Skink soup. It tasted fine but not much fish ands lots of potatoes. Three of us then had sandwiches, the Club sandwich was very good, well filled with bacon, tomato etc and was tasty. Me and my mum both had the egg mayonnaise sandwich. It looked different in that it was 2 whole slices of toast which I thought may have been included in the description. That said I can live with this, however what was very unusual and disappointing was the quantity of filling in these two sandwiches. It appeared that there was a smear of egg mayo as in the quantity of butter you would spread on a slice of bread (and in this case it was spread onto 2 slices of thick toast). Without exaggerating it appeared that 1 egg had been used to fill 2 sandwiches . The salad that accompanied it was nice and the fish and chips the other member of our group had was apparently good. We did mention it to the server who said he’d mention our views to the chef, but it just seemed odd. We also mentioned to a member of staff at an early stage of our visit, that there was no soap in the gents toilets (you could clearly see the soap dispenser was empty when you walked in), however when leaving some time later this had not been rectified, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. It wasn’t a cheap lunch and it was fairly disappointing overall. Unless this was a one off, don’t think I would return.

Excellent in every way! We ate here 4 times in 4 days, 2 lunches and 2 evening meals. Good is fresh, delicious and decent portion sizes. The “Specials” truly live up to their name. Particular highlights included mussels in white wine sauce, haddock goujons and the brisket. 3 of us are coeliac and they provided us with an allergens menu. They had run out of GF bread/rolls some days but kindly allowed us to use our own. Service was friendly and staff happy to answer/clarify and queries we had. Small wine list with lovely choices to suit the cuisine. Highly recommended!
